Martina Lisa Gronau - June 25, 1968 - April 06, 2024

Departed: 04/06/2024 (Avondale)
Obituary Preview: Martina Lisa Gronau, 55, of Layton, UT, passed away the evening of April 6, 2024, surrounded by her close family. Lisa was born in Phoenix, AZ on June 25, 1968, the youngest child of Mary Gonzales and Herman Castillo. She spent her early years caring for her ailing grandmother and was involved in church. This created what became a lifelong passion for helping others and love of her savior, Jesus Christ.
It was in church where she met the love of her life, Darrell. They began their 39 year love story when they married on October 12, 1984. In 1985, they welcomed their first son Adam. In 1987, they had their second child Mark before relocating to Tucson. She was a truly amazing wife and mother who took the time to make sure her family knew they were loved and valued.
During her time in Tucson, Lisa held various jobs before completing her degree in Respiratory Therapy. She enjoyed her career as a respiratory therapist, taking to heart the lasting impact she was able to have on her patients. She continued to practice respiratory therapy after the family moved back to the Phoenix area in 2003.
More than 20 years after their sons, Lisa and Darrell welcomed Amarisa and Adrianna to their family through adoption in 2010. This was a dream come true for Lisa, who had always wanted a daughter. Shortly after the adoption, the family relocated to Utah where Lisa focused her attention on raising her girls. She worked tirelessly to teach them how to live a moral life and to put God first. She also made time to pursue her interest in gardening, trying new recipes, and traveling.
Lisa became a grandma in 2018. She cherished the time she had with her four grandchildren, and although distance was a challenge, she made the most of every minute they had together.
Throughout her life Lisa was able to maintain a strong connection with her immediate and extended family, no matter where she lived. She made her family stronger by being engaged and taking an active interest in their lives. She was constantly sought out for her advice and was a trusted listener. Her loss will be felt across generations.
She is survived by her beloved husband Darrell, her four children Adam (Lauren) of Kissimmee, FL , Mark (Kaylin) of Marana, AZ, Amarisa, and Adrianna; her siblings Linda Castillo of Baldwin Park, CA, Armando Castillo, Gabriel Castilllo, and Eleanor (Eli) Medina, all of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren Lillie, Andrew, Cameron, and Travis; as well as her aunts, uncle, and several cousins. Lisa was preceded in death by her parents Mary & Herman, grandparents, and several relatives.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery & Funeral Home located at 9925 W. Thomas Road, Avondale, AZ 85392. A viewing will be held at 10am with liturgical service at 11am and graveside service immediately after.
