Clarence, affectionately known as “Piggy” had a love for music, art and drawing and spent a lot of his free time sketching. He was considerably fashionable in his younger days and always thought of himself as a “superstar”. He had a giving heart, humble spirit and loved his family and friends dearly.

He confessed Christ at and early age and was baptized at Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. F. D. Reese. Clarence was educated in the Dallas County school system and received his Graduate Equivalent Diploma in 1975.

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter James Davis, Sr. and Florence Fitts Davis, and one brother Eugene (Buddy) Davis.

He leaves to cherish his memories four brothers, Lawrence (Olivia) Fitts of Cleveland, OH, Walter James (Gloria Jean) Davis, Jr. (Selma) who cared for Clarence in their home until his death. Obituary Preview: Harold George Franzen Jr., 90 of Dadeville, AL, died peacefully at his home on January 27, 2022.

Harold George Franzen was born on September 8, 1931, in Chicago, IL. To Harold George Franzen Sr. and Maire Katherine Schuman Franzen. Harold married Dorothy Jane Valerio on May 23, 1953 and have been married for over 68 wonderful years. Harold and Dorothy honeymooned at the cabin in Tomahawk, Wisconsin that later led to making many lifelong family memories. Harold served his country in the United States Airforce. After leaving the service he went to work for General Electric. He was a contract negotiator later being promoted to General Manager of the Northeast Division in the GE engine group, selling jet engines to the Army and Navy military branches of the US government. He was an intragal part with the design and final tweaks of The Black Hawk helicopter and sold it to the army. Throughout his 35 yr. career he worked in St. Louis, Ohio and Washington D.C. before retiring in 1992.

Harold loved playing golf and living by the water which brought him to retire on Lake Martin. He was a member of the Stillwaters Rockers golf club. He was a private pilot and enjoyed flying sail planes. What brought him the most joy was spending time boating, pulling his children and grandchildren skiing and tubing. Harold loved and cherished his family.

He persevered through many obstacles in his life including being a cancer survivor and rising from humble beginnings to create a great life for his family. Harold lived a full and amazing life. He was a member of the Sardis United Methodist Church in Dadeville.

Harold is survived by his wife, Dorothy, four daughters, Pamela Franzen of St. Louis, MO, Cheryl Franzen Wisdom of Wright City, MO, Renee Franzen Lowe and husband Paul of Dadeville, AL and Cherie Franzen Stevens and husband Mark of Montgomery City, MO. Grandchildren- Sara Jones Hyde, Danielle Jones (Wayne), Christopher Jones (Susan), Alexius Lowe, Ashley Atkins (Brian), Nichole Borgers (Jeff), Samantha Thalhammer (Thomas), Shauna Curless (Nathan) and Luke Stevens (Abby). Great Grandchildren-Daysia Jones, Jaden Black, Oliver Hyde, Anna Grace & Xander Atkins, MegganJones, Amalia Curless, Jake Borgers and Walker Stevens. Also surviving are his sisters Charlotte Tehako, Linda Franzen and sister in law Lindy Franzen and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Harold was proceeded in death by his parents Harold Franzen Sr., Marie Franzen, sisters Beverly Martello, Audrey Collatz, his brother Carl Franzen, son in law, Richard Jones, son in law, James Wisdom, grandson Tyler Stevens and daughter Catherine Ann Franzen.

He was deeply loved by his family and friends and we are all enriched for having known him.  We will miss our husband, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Brother and friend.

Memorial services will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Sardis United Methodist Church in Dadeville, AL. Brother Stephen King will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2 PM until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to either Sardis United Methodist Church or to Compassus Care Hospice.

Obituary Preview: aVnda Bernette Simmons was born to the union of Jessie Mae &  William R. Simmons on May 25, 1962,  in Mobile, Alabama. She departed this life for  eternal rest on  Sunday, August 29, 2021.  Vanda was preceded in death by her father, William R.  Simmons, II; brothers, William R. Simmons, III, Phillip A. Simmons and Brady Mitchell and nephew, Walter J. Hammond, III.

Vanda was educated in the Mobile County School System and graduated from Mattie T. Blount High School in 1980. While attending high school, she sang in the chorus and became a member of the girl’s basket ball team. Upon graduating, she landed her first job in the City of Prichard, Mayor’s Office. She was most recognized for her exceptional administrative work and typing skills.  Vanda was extremely gifted in the talents of            singing, sketching, culinary arts, and cosmetology. Her passion for styling hair, led her to work along side her big brother, “Bill” Simmons at Special Effects Hair Salon for several  years.

Vanda will be most remembered for her comedic character, huge personality, sense of humor and love for the Lord.  Any person who crossed her path felt loved and she never met a stranger. She enjoyed playing spades and would  challenge anyone to a good card game. She was devoted to her family “deck”.  She was “The queen of  hearts” to her children; “Ace of spades” to her friends and “The joker’s wild” to her family. She was quick to cut any suit that threaten the “deck”.

She leaves to cherish her memories; Mother, Jessie Mae Simmons; Daughter, Jessica L. Simmons; Son, Kendal S. Simmons; Grandson, Darius I. Simmons; her sisters,         Constance S. Hammond (Walter), Wanda E. She was a devoted and longtime member of St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church on Hobbs Avenue where she was a founding member of the Matrons, member of the Missionary Society, and the L. Simmons Choir, until she united with Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Josephine received her early education from Mt. Calvary Lutheran School, in Minter, AL.

Zettie Mae Jones was born July 15, 1936, to Vera and Sam Crum.  She was the ninth of ten children (Herman, Lizzie Mae, Alma, Wilton, Pearlie, Corine, Sam, Amos, Roosevelt).   At the age of 3, her mother died, but God sent a loving and caring stepmother “Mrs. Carrie” (Carrie Beaton Crum) and added seven additional siblings (Oscar, George, Willie James, Comer, Catherine, Edna, Henderson).

As a teenager, Zettie played basketball at Shiloh High School, where she graduated in 1954.  In 1956 she married Earnest Jones, Sr. She Lived Purposefully

The heart of her husband trusted her; and she did him good and not evil (Proverbs 31:11-12) and peacefully lived with him for 50 years until his death in 2006. Earnest praised her often for the wonderful job she did with their eight children: Clarence Jones, Judy (Cedric) Jordan, Debbie Jones, Vivian Jones, Curtis (Wilma) Jones, Mary (Robert) Allison, Michael (Lisa) Jones, Donitha (Pete) Griffin.

Zettie would rise, while it was still yet night, to provide food for her household (Proverbs 31;15). She was known for cooking for her family and stretching what little resources she had to make sure her their needs were met. She was not a lazy woman but full of energy and life.  First thing in the morning she would roll up her sleeves, work, and prepare for day. She was in no hurry to call it quits for the day. Even after a full day of work, she would gather her children around her bed late at night and pray for them and others.

At the age of 44, Zettie quit her job to care for her precious 20-year-old daughter, Debbie, who became ill. She continued to care for her full-time and faithfully for 7 years while also caring for her husband, seven other children, and grandchildren.

She opened her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue was the law of kindness (Proverbs 31:26).  Zettie taught her family Godly principles: Love God, Love One Another, Treat People with Kindness regardless of how they treat you, Give, even if it’s your last, and God will give back to you, It is better to eat too much than talk too much, Laugh often, Trust God, and Serve God with all your heart.

Zettie laughed often and was known for her quirky sayings as well as her way of making simplicity out of a complex world. She made others laugh and they enjoyed being in her presence.  The joy of the Lord was her strength, and she displayed that joy often. She Served

Zettie confessed Christ at an early age and joined Ellwood AME Zion Church (aka Ellwood Community Church) where she served until death. Her areas of service varied (missionary, choir, deaconess, etc.,) but she found joy in being a door keeper in the house of God. Many have said her kind words, warm smile and gentle touch at the door encouraged them, lifted their spirit, or became the very reason they joined the church. She loved people and believed kindness was an essential element in life.

She extended her hands to the poor and reached out her hands to the needy (Proverbs 31:20).  She was known for taking care of others in the community. Preparing food for those who were hungry and driving people in the community to the grocery store or doctor’s appointment and, yes, she drove faithfully until her health began to fail at the young age of 83.

Others she leaves to cherish her memories: Her brother: Sam Crum, her Sister-in-laws: Idell Bradley and Marjorie Beaton, her grandchildren:Clarence, Jr. (Ebony), Kendrick(Juanita), Robert Latrell, Kachavious, Jessica (Kedric), Shalonda, Kaylin, Calvin, Cameron, Joshua, and Ashlynn, fifteen great and great-great grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Her last words to her daughter “I’m a fighter and God got me”.  Well, she fought the good fight, she kept the faith and on July 5, 2021, at Brookwood Hospital, she finished the race and knew without any doubt that there was a crown of righteousness in store for her.

Obituary Preview: Obituary July 1932 began as an ordinary month in Snow Hill, Alabama. It became extraordinary when God blessed the union of Rev. Isaac and Mrs. Jessie Ruth Yelder with a beautiful daughter, Amy Augusta on July 19th. Amazingly, on December 19, 2020 God whispered “It’s Time My Child” and brought her home to live eternally with Him. Born into a family that had intense love for the Lord Jesus Christ, Amy answered the call to serve and began her spiritual journey at a very early age and joined Mount Mariah Baptist Church. Constantly on the heels of her mother and grandmother as they served the Snow Hill Community, Amy learned the beauty of loving God through service to His people. Educated at the infamous Snow Hill Institute, Amy was known as a “Real Smart Girl” who was a constant on the school’s honor roll and helped her fellow classmates with difficult lessons. At a church revival service, she met the love of her life, Mr. Willie Henry Chestnut. The handsome young man courted her seriously and claimed her heart as he rode his “sharp” Harley Davidson Motorcycle to her front door until she said “Yes, I’ll Marry You!” Through 38 years of marriage, they raised 11 children and a grandson as their own. Known throughout their community and surrounding areas as God fearing, hardworking and great parents, Willie and Amy instilled those same values in their children. After marriage she joined E.B. Countyline Baptist Church where she served as Church Secretary, Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School Teacher, a Deacon’s Wife, a Church Mother and took care of whatever the church needed. She was Secretary for the East Hope District Women’s Convention, a member of The Willing Workers, The Home Mission, An Eastern Star and Mistress of Order and Guest Speaker for too many church and social events to mention. Very engaged in her children’s lives, Amy served as PTA Secretary of E.M. Brown High School and was called “the best secretary he ever had” by Principal William Moultrie. After their youngest started school, Amy decided she needed to broaden her horizons and joined the work force at Dan River Mills where she worked as a machine operator for many years. Dubbed the “Community Social Worker” by her grandson Micah, Amy was a woman of great action! She was constantly taking people to the doctor, shopping for their groceries, cooking and delivering meals, helping them to handle business affairs and was not shy about making sure they were treated fairly in all of their interactions. When she took time for herself, Amy immersed herself in the fine art of quilting. Attention to detail was her specialty and the fine stitches in her numerous quilts that are still covering beds today are a testament to her work. She also enjoyed cooking and was legendary for her teacakes, cakes, pies and fried chicken! Preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Amy leaves to cherish her rich memory 11 children – George (Gwen) Chestnut, Henry (Shirley) Chestnut, Barbara (Clarence) Rivers, Dorothy (James) Jackson, Vivian (Bernard) Morton, Brenda (Raymond) Boyland, Sharon (Barry) Moorer, Jessie Chestnut, Delores (Anthony) Moss, Mary (Nathaniel) Holloway and Marcus (Natalie) Chestnut; 3 brothers – George (Clemmie) Yelder, Isaac (Brenda) Yelder and John Henry Yelder; Sister-in-Laws Mary Bonner, Wanda Chestnut, and Josephine Dortch. Amy’s grandchildren brought her intense joy and their memories of her pancakes, hot chocolate and occasional spankings are mentioned at nearly every family gathering. Obituary Preview: John Allen Scott Sr. (Johnny Boy) was born the youngest of four children. He was born on November 4, 1936 to the late Nettie and Ned Scott Sr. of  Ackerville, AL. He transitioned to his new home on August 19, 2020. His Christian Journey began at Siloam Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and other appointed positions. John Sr. affectionally known to many as Johnny Boy, attended Snow Hill Institute, where he graduated in 1955. Johnny Boy was very athletic playing both sports football and baseball. Where baseball being his number one sport, as a pitcher, he was known for his hard to hit breaking curve ball. As a young man right out of high school he journeyed to Baltimore, MD. After a short stay he returned back to Ackerville where he met and married Mary L. Thomas. The union lasted for twenty-four years.

Johnny Boy was employed with Powell and Stone for fifty plus years as a farmer. Also, he worked as a Reserved Deputy (Volunteer) and a Volunteer Firefighter for over twenty-five years. During his retirement you could find him outside doing the things he loved: farming, fishing and hunting.

He has been preceded in death by his parents: Nettie and Ned Scott Sr. and his siblings: Ned Scott, Jr., Earline Thomas Floyd and George Chestnut, Sr.

Johnny Boy  leaves to cherish his memories four sons: John (Maggie) Scott, Jr. of Montgomery, AL, C.
