Her parents, Juanita and Severo Villarreal preceded her in death; as well as her siblings: Aida Codero, Tony Villarreal, Victor Villarreal, her twin Josie Rodriguez, Margaret Pallot, and Rosalina Cuevas.
She was a loving mother, survived by Lisa Reed and Judith Caputo-Valente; grandmother of Kayleigh Reed; and survived by siblings Lupita Llanos and Junior Villarreal.
Judy was a home Caregiver for the elderly. She was passionate about caring for her patients as she did her own family.
She loved the beach, road trips with her daughters, and enjoyed occasional trips to Atlantic City with her sister Margaret.
Services will be held in Staten Island, NY at a later date.

His legacy extends to his cherished grandchildren: Dale, Kathleen, Christina, Larry, Lauren, Jessica, Lisa, JJ, Kendall, and Karessea. Gene’s heart expanded even further when he became a great-grandfather.
Gene’s legacy extends to his cherished great-grandchildren: Kaytlynn, Caleb, Daniel, Alexis, Nolan, Elle, June, Victoria, and Anora. These young ones were fortunate to have Gene’s love and wisdom enrich their lives.
In the tapestry of Gene’s life, these roles were woven together—a hard worker who built a foundation, a devoted husband who cherished companionship, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who left an indelible mark on generations. After graduating from Virginia Tech and winding his way from Danville to Chesapeake, Neal spent the majority of his professional life as an Assistant City Manager for the City of Norfolk. His greatest passion in life was sharing the wonders of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren through hunting at both United Hunt Club and the Howwin Farm. His greatest joys in life were being a husband, a father, a father-in-law, an uncle, and a friend, but most importantly, a Papa.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 5767 Sellger Drive, Norfolk, VA 23502. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Colonel Lewis G. McFarland, US Army (Ret.) - August 04, 1939 - March 26, 2024

Obituary Preview: It is with sorrow in our hearts that we announce that Lewis G. McFarland left us on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Born on August 4, 1939, he was the son of the late Ellis Olen and Dora Nell McFarland.
Lewis was Blessed with two great loves and created his beautiful and loving family through these marriages: Tyler McFarland (Kari) VA Beach, Amanda McFarland, Florida, five grandchildren, Justin, Jordan, Chloe, Abby and Cooper whom lovingly called him Pop-Pop.
Lewis attended Arkansas Tech and earned a degree in Geology. It was there he met the love of his life, Sandra McFarland, and she squared him away for the next 53 years and supported and loved him all the days of her life. While at Arkansas Tech he participated in the ROTC program and was commissioned into the Army upon graduation. Lewis served as a professional soldier for 30 years. Commanding Batteries, Battalion, Brigade, Chief of Staff on a division level unit and served on the staff of the Secretary of Defense.
Lew attended the US Army Staff College, the British Army Staff College, and attended the College of the Armed Forces in lieu of the US Army War College. He obtained his Master’s Degree from George Washington University.
Later in life, Lew met Debi McFarland, his soulmate. They balanced each other out and respected their differences, but agreed about the important things. He will be dearly missed by the family he received from this union: Parker Rankin (Ashlie), Washington State, William Rankin, Mississippi and Daniel Rankin, VA Beach, and step-grandchildren, Theo and Ada.

Obituary Preview: Thomas “Mike” Michael Head, 68, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on March 25, 2024 at Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA.
Mike was born in Quantico, VA as the third of four children, to Master Gunnery Sergeant Samuel Warren Head, USMC, Retired, and Lula Mae Head. He became a Chief in the United States Navy and retired after 18 years out of Wales, UK. His stations included Bermuda, Alaska, Virginia and Wales, UK. He later worked in government contracting, where he also retired.
He was quiet, but stubborn with quick wit and never short on a sarcastic comment. He was full to the brim with knowledge gained from all of his life experience. Mike was a master fisherman with a lifetime love for fishing learned from his father, and shared with his children. He spent countless hours on the water, Captain of his varying fishing boats over the years. He could often be found in his wood shop, drinking coffee while rock ‘n roll played on the radio. He's made endless projects over the years, and filled his home with furniture made with his own two hands.
Preceding Mike in death are both of his parents, and sister Suzy Lau. Left to cherish his memory are: wife Donna Head; his beloved (though rotten) dog Murphy; children Chris Head (wife Becki Head), Samantha Dempsey (husband Rodney Dempsey); siblings Jim Head (wife Margaret Head), Buddy Head (wife Kathy Head); grandchildren William Head, Daniel Head, and Jack Dempsey; and many nieces and nephews. In typical Mike fashion, there are no services planned, no pomp and circumstance. Just a pint shared in his memory by his family who love and miss him dearly. Troy was a proud United States Navy Veteran and retired honorably as a Senior Chief in February 1982.
Troy also loved and served the VFW Post 4809 and at the time of his passing he was the longest living Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Commander (1983-1984) of Norfolk’s VFW Post 4809.
Troy is survived by his daughter Terry Haddock (Ralph), sons Troy Bridges (Donna) and Timothy Bridges, granddaughters Nicole Hudson (Jonathan) and Savannah Moorehead (Greg), grandson Shiloh Bridges (Chelsea), great-granddaughters Chloe Hudson, Gwyneth Hudson and Hadley Bridges, great-grandsons Micah Hudson and August Moorehead, his beautiful sister Mary Wigley, nephew Mike Crawford and great-nephew Robert Crawford.
Troy was predeceased by his wife Estelene Bridges, brothers Kenneth Bridges and Roy Bridges, sister Margie Bridges, and nephews Robert Crawford, Steven Crawford and Paul Crawford.

Joseph E. Strange - March 08, 1943 - March 22, 2024

Obituary Preview: With profound sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Joseph E. Strange, who peacefully departed this life on March 22, 2024, at Jupiter Medical Center in Florida, encircled by the love of his devoted wife and cherished family. Born on March 8, 1943, in Atlanta, Texas, Joseph was the beloved son of Mack and Mable Strange.
Joseph's journey began at Pascagoula High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1961 in Mississippi. His path then led him to serve with honor in the U.S. Navy on the Theodore Roosevelt Polaris Submarine Service. It was during this time that he united his life with Ellen Collier from Easton, Maryland, in matrimony on April 26, 1964.
Post his distinguished service in the Navy, Joseph flourished as an adept salesman, becoming a prominent distributor of household essentials such as Kirby vacuums, Brother sewing machines, and other specialty products. In 1978, he embarked on a new venture, founding Tidewater SewVac, which burgeoned into a network of 17 stores spanning Suffolk to Williamsburg, Virginia, before consolidating into six larger establishments. Beyond his entrepreneurial endeavors, Joseph made significant contributions to his community, serving on the Virginia Beach Planning Commission from 2001 to 2011 and later on the Virginia Beach Economic Development Authority from 2013 to 2023, where he advocated for the interests of small businesses.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joseph embraced life's pleasures with zest. An avid golfer, he boasted three hole-in-ones, finding joy in the serenity of the greens. He found solace in the rhythms of music, the beauty of poetry, and the excitement of Alabama football. Florida held a special place in his heart, where he relished moments of relaxation. Most importantly, he cherished the bonds of family, finding delight in evenings spent playing cards and sharing laughter.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Mable Strange, and his siblings: Mary Anderson, Arrie Dollard, Volna Butler, Elbert Strange, David Strange, and Mack Strange. He leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories cherished by his beloved wife, Ellen C. Strange; his daughter, Cheryl Simmons of Virginia Beach; his daughter, Sandra Wright, and son-in-law, David Wright of Midlothian; his granddaughters, Carly Wright and Lindsey Wright of Midlothian; his sister, Kathy Rouse, and brother-in-law, Harold Rouse of Red Level, Alabama; his cousin, Luther Scott, and wife, Roberta Scott of Soso, Mississippi; his brother-in-law, Robert Stanley Collier, Jr., and wife, Fay Collier of Harrington, Delaware; his sister-in-law, Elaine Trice, and husband, Sam Trice of Colby, Wisconsin; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he touched with his warmth and generosity.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 8:30 am to 9:00 am at Hollomon-Brown, Kempsville Chapel. A service will follow at 9:00 am, also at the Kempsville Chapel, with interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Easton, Maryland, at 4:00 pm, a final resting place befitting his life's journey.

Eileen Marie Althouse - March 03, 1954 - March 19, 2024

Obituary Preview: Eileen Marie Althouse, 70, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 19, 2024 at Sentara Leigh Hospital following an eleven month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Metuchen, New Jersey on March 3, 1954 to the late John and Florence Gramer.
Eileen graduated from Metuchen High School in 1972 and sought out a career in nursing, earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware in 1976 and a Master's from the University of Virginia in 1982. Her work was dedicated to counseling patients with diabetes, helping thousands of people from all walks of life to better manage their condition. She spent much of her career at Eastern Virginia Medical School, retiring in 2022 after 34 years.
The most important part of Eileen's life was her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, tirelessly supportive of her loved ones. She relished the time she spent with them, whether traveling, relaxing on the beach, cheering at their games, or sitting down for a meal. Eileen is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, Elliott; her brother, John; her two children, John and Melissa; her three grandchildren, Claire, Sophia, and Lily, who brought her great joy; her niece, Jeannine; and her daughter-in-law Belinda and son-in-law Grant, who she embraced as her own. She was kind to all, a loyal friend, and loved by those fortunate to know her.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, March 24 at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. The service will be preceded by visitation beginning at 1:30 PM. A reception will follow at 4:00 PM at The Founders Inn at 5641 Indian River Rd. Burial will be at 10:00 AM Monday, March 25 at Princess Anne Memorial Park, 1110 Great Neck Rd.

Thomas served 9 years in the US Navy, which landed him in Norfolk, Virginia. After the Navy, he become a heavy equipment mechanic. He has two children Samantha Peckerar and Nathan Shannon. In addition, he has four grandchildren: Connor, Casey, Cyler, and Irelynne. Thomas has five brothers; Terry, Will, Mike, Tim, Carl Jr. and two sisters; Mary and Leona, along with many nieces and nephews.
Thomas was a loving, kind, KOOL, and thoughtful man. He was also quirky and eccentric. His love and passion for tattoos and piercings was impressive. His body was a walking piece of art, something he was proud of and loved. He enjoyed his monthly sessions and looked forward to his next body art project. Thomas had a love for most music from all eras. His favorite bands include Linkin Park, Grass Roots, Blondie, Queen, Cardie B, and Pink to name a few. He was an avid movie buff and had quite the collection of VHS tapes. He loved to watch older TV series, such as MASH, Highlander, The Carol Burnett show, and Abbott & Castello. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Notre Dame College Football.
Thomas did not want a service, rather a celebration of life. Keeping his memory alive, cherish the little things, stop and smell the roses, enjoy someone else’s tattoos, go on a road trip, and eat buttery shrimp! To quote Thomas Shannon “Say it isn’t so”, live for today as tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Barbara grew up in the Berkley section of Norfolk and attended Maury High School. She married Bernard Ivan Bennett on July 10, 1957. They had been married over 61 years at the time of his death in 2019.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Sheran Williams. She is survived by her sister, Sandra Falk, and her husband Freddie, as well as her brother Earlie Dayton Stephens Jr. Also surviving her is her son, Donald Bennett, and his wife Nancy, and her other son David Bennett. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Melinda Lee Bennett Gula, Tamara Lynn Bennett and husband Jonah Donald Cravey, and Patricia Smith and husband Paul R. Smith. Barbara has four great-grandchildren, Joe Cravey, Silas Smith, Bella Smith, and Jesse Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be held at Hollomon-Brown, Kempsville Chapel at 1485 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464 on March 11, 2024. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at 2 p.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Ronald "Ron" Joseph Pousson - September 23, 1953 - February 27, 2024

Ron was a humble man and will be remembered as a kind, and sweet soul with a huge heart. He loved his family, fishing, spending time in his garden and especially cooking for others. Ron served in the US Navy where he earned the National Defense Medal Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Navy Unit Commendation.
Ron will be forever remembered by his wife of 42 years, Mary Vonda Pousson; daughters Stacey Pousson Sherrill (Stuart), Amy Pousson; sisters Margaret Durio, Carrie Pyzalski, Judy Italio, Janie Pierce; and many special nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. A memorial service will be held at Albert G Horton, Jr. Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia on April 12 at 1pm. Obituary Preview: Gloria Angel Hofileña, beloved matriarch and cherished grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024, at the age of 102. Born in Cavite, Philippines, on March 11, 1921, Gloria was a beacon of love, kindness, and devotion throughout her remarkable life.
Gloria was a loving and devoted wife of the late Orfilo G., Sr. and together they shared a bond that transcended time. During World War II, she served as a volunteer, secretary and nurse at the Veteran’s Hospital in the Philippines where she met her husband. She enjoyed gardening, listening to music and being with her family. As a mother to Orfilo Jr. and Ernesto Sr., she poured her heart into nurturing her children, created a home filled with warmth and affection and gardens filled with flowers, fruits and vegetables. Gloria’s faith was an integral part of her life. She found solace and strength in her daily prayers and her devotion to St. Anthony. Gloria was a faithful member of St. Matthew’s Church in Virginia Beach, VA, as well as St. Anthony’s Church in New Haven, CT.
Gloria always advised and offered words of wisdom to her grandchildren. She of often said “enjoy life” and “don’t worry, be happy.” Her positivity and resilience were infectious and she faced life’s challenges with grace and optimism. As we mourn the loss of Gloria Angel Hofileña, let us also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and her legacy of kindness, generosity and love. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Gloria has two beloved sons, Orfilo A. Hofileña, Jr., married to Divinia of New Haven, CT, and Ernesto A. Gloria is reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband, Orfilo Hofileña, Sr., her parents, Elisa Peralta and Mariano Angel and her siblings, Carlos Angel, Alfonso Angel, and Purisima Angel. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Obituary Preview: Norman “Norm” Gene Langrehr, 78, passed away peacefully in his home on February 20, 2024. He was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin on February 15, 1946 to the late Luella and Lawrence Langrehr.
He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, but his true passion was serving in the US Navy from 1964-1994. Norm was proud to be the one and only Prosthetic Dental Tech to advance to the rank of Chief Petty Officer the year he was selected for advancement. He was on the Medical Inspector General Team in Washington, DC, where he inspected multiple dental and medical facilities worldwide. Norm’s hard work earned him numerous awards while he served, including the Meritorious Service Medal. He served as a Dental Technician for 30 years, before retiring as a Command Master Chief.
While some are merely “jacks of all trades,” Norm truly was a master of all. Anything he put his mind to, Norm excelled at. This carried over from his Naval career into retirement, where he took up woodworking. He enjoyed gardening and working on DIY home projects with his wife, Hazel “Carol”, over the years.
Norm had kind, striking blue eyes and a sense of humor that could make anyone laugh. He loved everyone and never knew a stranger. He will be missed dearly by his friends and family.
Left to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Hazel “Carol” Langrehr; four children, Melissa Lynn Langrehr, Kenneth Allan Langrehr, Paul Edward Langrehr, and Lance Aaron Langrehr; and three sisters, Nancy Kae Robison, Elaine Langrehr, and Beverly Wenzel.
At Norm’s request, there will be no formal service. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Virginia Beach SPCA or the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Her energy, zest for life, sunny disposition, and sense of humor made her a joy to be around.
Mother was also active in neighborhood and church activities and committees.
Visitation, Celebration of Life, and reception will all be held on February 23, 2024 at the Catholic Church of Saint Mark (1505 Kempsville Rd. Virginia Beach, VA 23464). Visitation begins at 10am, the Celebration of Life at 11am, and the reception will follow the mass.

Winnie loved to work in her garden and to cook meals for loved ones. She had a nurturing nature and enjoyed caring for others. Her kind disposition earned her the affectionate nickname “Grandma Winnie” to many extended friends and family and “Mama” to her pets Lexi and Abbie.
Left to cherish Winnie’s memory: her husband, Thomas W. Parkman; grandson, Nathan T. Parkman; granddaughter, Neyla J. Parkman; daughter-in-law, Allinda P. Parkman; sister, Yvonne Hill; and brother, Ruddy Hill (Pauline).

She was one of five children born to Fred Malpass and Ella Malpass Davis. Martha’s faith in God was her strength throughout her life. She enjoyed going to church and praising the Lord. She also loved singing in the choir. Her favorite hymn was, “It Is Well With My Soul”!
Over the years she was a faithful member of Faith Temple, Congregational Freewill Baptist Church, Indian River Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church Cumming. She loved Jesus, her family, people, Braves baseball, and ice cream! She lived most of her life in Chesapeake, Virginia. She was a loving mother of five children.
Martha is survived by her three daughters, Ann Lewis and husband Danny of Chesapeake, VA; Margie Foreman and husband Jimmy of Bath, NC; Cindy VanKempen and husband Troy of Cumming, GA. She had twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Wilkins, sons Donnie and Freddie Finley, sisters Minnie Sasser, Alice Curlings, and Ida Grainger; brothers Joseph Malpass, William Davis; granddaughter Christina Lewis Smith; and grandson Freddy Finley.

He was a dedicated employee of Christian Broadcasting Network for 35 years. Bill is described by his children as “their hero,” his nephews as “the best of all of us,” and by friends as having “made them better people.”
He was a gentle soul with an amazing voice and extraordinary musical talent. His love of bluegrass music began in Nashville while he attended Trevecca Nazarene College, and he toured the country singing with their musical ensembles, “Encounters” and “Bridge” during that time. His talents grew as a vocalist, musician and composer.
He enjoyed the great outdoors, whether from his hunting tree stand, backyard hammock, or hiking Civil War Battlefields which he so ardently studied. He was a skilled carpenter, having crafted many beautiful pieces of furniture and was always happiest with a word-working project. His quirky sense of humor will be missed, but lives on through his daughters.
Billy leaves behind his two beautiful daughters and their families whom he loved with all his heart: Leigh Meredith Dubograev and Sergei, and their children Luka Alexander, Nikolai Silas, and Kira Charlotte of Alexandria, Virginia; Marla Gayle Nistico and Daniel, and their children Julien Rane, Ava Rose, and Ezra Phoenix, of Punta Gorda, Florida. Two sisters: Kathi Barefoot and Ken of Virginia Beach; Lane Kane and Dave of Fernandina Beach, Florida; many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law David Wright and Martha, and Steve Wright and Ruby; Loving parents-in-law Richard and Verna Wright, of Chesapeake, Virginia.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Charles William Smith Sr., and Betty Sanders Smith.
A Celebration of Life gathering will take place in the spring.

Inocencio’s personal ethics for hard work, passion for family, and unwavering drive for the American dream is passed on to his family. His hard work and dedication afforded new opportunities for his family and not only guaranteed their paths to better lives but also leaves behind a legacy of the man to whom generations of Alvars will be forever grateful. He was known as a friend to all. He always had a helping hand or word of advice. His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many friends and family whose hearts he lives on in.
