Obituary Preview: Ione A. Perry, age 84, of East Middle Road Sheridan, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Buffalo General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on January 19th, 1937 in Irving, NY, the daughter of the late Richard D. and Lyva M. (Gunther) Cody.
Ione loved all her children and grandchildren, sharing her ideas of creating crafts and her family recipes. She loved to sing and participated for many years with the Dunkirk-Fredonia choir in which she performed many local holiday concerts. In her younger years she worked at the New York Telephone Co. and after raising her children, she worked numerous years with Lake Shore Nursing Home in Irving, NY as an activity’s coordinator.
Ione was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and grandchildren and would embrace every moment with them. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends, we will never forget her tenacity, wit, undying love and caring for all of them.
Survivors include her four sons, Kevin (Marsha) Perry of Sheridan, NY, Ty Perry and Kurt (Sabrina) Perry of Dunkirk and Timothy Perry of Sheridan.
She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Kristen (Erik) Nixon, Megan (Ermin) Sabljakovic, Andrea, Brandon, Aubriana, Lilyana, Ashley Jo, Christopher, Elizabeth, Keith and Noah Perry, Phillip McKeown, Samuel Chiappone; eight great grandchildren, Preston and Alyshia Perry, Kaleb and Logan Nixon, Eli Sabljakovic, Zachary Smith, Ivy Rose Carlson and Kaidy Smith.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Keith E. Perry, whom she married on February 27, 1960, her sister, Eudora M. (Cody) Wisniewski and a brother, Douglas A. Cody.
There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family with a date and time to be announced.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sheridan Fire Dept.

John J. Kenney Sr. - October 17, 1936 - July 28, 2021

Obituary Preview: On July 28, 2021 John J Kenney, Sr. passed on to his Heavenly home through his faith in Jesus Christ’s redemptive work. John was born October 17, 1936 in Bradford, PA. In 1942, his family bought a house and small farm in Sheridan, NY. John attended Sheridan’s one room school house and later graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1955. He graduated with a business degree from Bryant and Stratton in 1957. About that time he met Deborah Miller and they were wed in 1963. In 1968 he attended Gowanda State Hospital of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse. John worked for 30 years at Gowanda State and J.N. Adam hospitals, various nursing homes and private duty for the Yellen and Nenno families. He has lived in Perrysburg, NY since 1978. John enjoyed a full life marked by his love for people, music and good food. He truly loved his work and the people he shared many cups of coffee with. It was evident by the way he lived that he truly loved and enjoyed people of all ages and backgrounds. He professed his Christian faith through his actions more so than his words. His shined the Light through his generosity toward others and support of faith- based organizations. He set an example as a provider modeling hard work, integrity and trust. John loved music of many genres. He played the accordion in a dance band in the 50s and later was the church organist for many years with his wife at the piano. If you had dinner at the Kenney’s, you probably enjoyed an impromptu concert in the music room. He loved to attend concerts and would drive for hours to attend a music festival. He had a fascination with sound production. He loved to set up his mics, speakers, soundboards and recording equipment for local church or concert events. He often would lend his equipment and expertise to churches in need. John loved all foods. He was an excellent cook, something he learned from his mother and various restaurant jobs from his youth. He loved to cook for company and large gatherings alike. Name a town and he could tell you the best restaurant in a 30 mile radius. He had a magnetic personality that drew people to him. He would often go out of his way to do something special for someone. He had a knack for knowing what made people smile whether it be the telling of good story, a plate full of yummy comfort food or simply welcoming them into his home. John was the only son of Paul C Kenney and Hazel B Kenney (nee Henry), and brother to sisters Marilyn Naslund, Mona Kenney and Nancy Murphy Kenney, all pre deceased. He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Deborah Miller Kenney, daughter Rebekah (John) Tombaugh, son, John (Gina) Kenney Jr, along with grandchildren Mariah (Anthony) Jones-Nagel, Ashley Kenney and John Kenney III, and one great grandchild Isaiah Nagel. His extended family includes brother-in-laws Ken Naslund and Ron Murphy, nephew Keith Naslund and nieces Karin Miller Naslund, Heather Murphy Fleming and Cara Murphy.
Friends and relatives may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave. Silver Creek, NY on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at the Christ Chapel Wesleyan Church, 64 Buffalo St. Silver Creek. There will be additional visitation from 1 PM until the time of services at 2 PM. Pastor James Rugg will officiate. Interment will be private. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial may be made to The Master’s Plan Community Church, 9586 Railroad St. Dayton, NY 14041.

Obituary Preview: Joyce B. Hall, 90, of Silver Creek, NY passed away Friday morning July 2, 2021 at her residence with her family at her side.
Joyce was born on October 7, 1930 in South Dayton, NY, the daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth (Jackett) Butcher. On December 16, 1948 she married George Hall Sr. he preceded in death on August 13, 2016, they shared sixty-eight years of marriage.
Joyce is survived by two sons, Thomas Hall Sr. and David (Becky) Hall; a daughter, Janice (Dean) Blake; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents Joyce was predeceased by three children, George Hall Jr., Timothy Hall Sr. and Vondalyn Rogers; three grandchildren, Charles “Chucky” Ferguson Jr., Trina Washington and Thomas Hall Jr.
Joyce graduated from South Dayton High School in 1945 and continued her education at D’Youville College in Buffalo earning a Nursing Degree. She retired as a nurse for the NY Geriatric Center in Buffalo, NY after many years of service.
She was a member and official greeter along with her late husband George of the  First Baptist Church of Silver Creek, they so enjoyed fellowship there as well. Joyce was a very focused and determined individual having been a three- time cancer survivor.
She enjoyed planting beautiful vegetable gardens to share. But most all she loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

He was born on November 25,1944 in Buffalo, NY the son of the late Robert and Dorothy (Willett) Smith. Richard married Grace Ann Rieg on February 18, 1967 in Depew, NY.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years Grace Ann Smith; two daughters, Lisa (Brian Impellizzieri) and Mary (Thomas) Hayes both of Syracuse, NY; a son, Christopher (Marsha) Smith of Ocala, Fla; seven grandchildren, Lauren (Dillon Canorro) and Zachary Blok, Sophia and Noah Hayes, Nick Robarge, Tyler (Amber)Chappell and Devon (Brittany) Smith; a sister, Norma (Dale) Hindmarsh of Syracuse.
Richard was preceded in death by a son, David Smith.
Richard worked in the insurance business for a number of years. He retired from Doan Insurance Co, Depew, NY as an insurance adjuster. He was a proud patriot having served in the U. S. Marines during the Vietnam War. He received a Certificate of Special Recognition for his participation in the Vietnam War, presented by Martha McSally, 2nd Congressional District in Arizona.
Richard was a diehard Buffalo Bills fan, enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son Chris. They were fondly referred to as “Fishin Fools”.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10a.m. Friday, June 18, 2021 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC Church, 165 Central Ave. Silver Creek. Committal will be at Mt Carmel Cemetery.

He was born into this world on August 23, 1959 in Buffalo, NY, the loving son of the late Samuel and Lorraine (Trost) Impastato. Loving brother of Daniel J. Impastato, Donna (Albert) Schaffer, Charles (Diane Piasecki), Mark (Denise Lundunski) and Kevin (Laura Debicki) Impastato. Carl was the fun uncle of thirteen much loved nieces and nephews. He was also a wonderful friend to many people through the years. Carl worked at Cameron Compression as a machinist for more than thirty years, working with his father and brother Charles. His last position was as a highly respected Quality Control Product Inspector. Carl’s favorite place to be was at his home in Sunset Bay for more than thirty years. He so enjoyed the lake, the beach, sunsets and helping others. Carl was so fortunate to have made many close friendships. He considered them to be his Sunset Family. Our family holds many happy memories all being together at Carl’s place during summer gatherings. He was the host with the most to us and all his guests. He was born in Silver Creek, NY on December 31, 1942 the son of the late Anthony and Bessie (Cuccia) Genovese.
Tony was a graduate of Silver Creek Central High School, Class of 1961 and Erie Community College. He worked for Acme and the Super Saver Grocery Stores in Fredonia, NY for a number of years as a manager.
When Tony’s children were growing up, he was very active in Silver Creek Little League, enjoyed fishing, gardening and was a dedicated New York Yankees fan. He also cherished his grandchildren, attending their activities whenever possible.
Survivors include his wife, Rosanne (Lewandowski) Genovese; a son, Christopher (Kathy) Genovese of Buffalo, NY and a daughter, Peg (Jon) Carmen of Williamsville; two grandchildren, Will and Claire Carmen. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Nina Botticello, Angeline Samuelson and Frances Bartlett.
A Celebration of Tony’s life will be held at the convenience of the family.

her beloved son John Vona. Joyce was a homemaker who was known for her Sunday spaghetti dinners and holiday meals. Nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her 5 children and 5
grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Dr. John Vona, who she was married to for 64 years., sons, Daniel Vona, (Karin Snyder) Dr. David Vona (wife Judy), two daughters, Linda Hart (husband Chris), Sandy Stewart (husband Randy), granddaughter’s, Kimberly Tomasik (husband Zack), Haley Hart, Samantha Stewart, grandsons Brandon Hart and
Matthew Vona, and sister Jean Lotempio and Jackie Cinquino. There will be no prior visitation, a family graveside service will be observed at Mt. Olivet

Kathy was a lifelong Chautauqua County resident, born in Silver Creek, NY on October 26, 1942 the daughter of the late Bert and Dorothy (Conrad) Mott. She married Donald E. Hayes on December 31, 1960 and he preceded her in death in 2003 after being married for more than forty-three years.
Surviving are two daughters, Valerie (Mark) Lis of Portland, NY and Julie Jackson of Northeast, PA; a sister, Cheryl (Bill) Kuppel of Silver Creek; a granddaughter, Kathleen (Josh) Gates; a grandson, Charlie (Julia) Jackson; five great-grandchildren, Draven Hemink, Zoey, Nicki, and Jake Gates and Kingston Jackson; three nephews, Eric (Melanie) Kuppel, James (Grace) and Keith (Mari) Frederickson; two nieces, Lisa (Shawn) Kubiak and Tammy (Ike) Unsoy.; a sister-in-law, Elaine Frederickson; a friend from childhood Gail Botticello and a longtime friend Pat Wild.
She was preceded in death by her longtime friend, Patricia Logan.
Kathy was a 1960 graduate of Silver Creek High School. She worked in the food service department at SUNY Fredonia, where she retired with more than twenty years of service.
She enjoyed arts & crafts, using macrame to make different things, ceramics, feeding the birds in her backyard. Kathy especially loved her feline companions, Dr Chang, Mighty Mouse, Polly and Delilah to name a few.
Kathy’s world revolved around her family, she made everybody feel “Special” and everybody who met her knew what a beautiful person she was.

Alvin Mac Crowe - December 11, 1938 - January 17, 2021

Obituary Preview: Alvin McGrath “Mac” Crowe, age 82 passed away on January 17, 2021. The son of Frank Xavier Crowe and Alice McGrath Crowe, he was born December 11, 1938 in Brooks Memorial Hospital at a cost of $87.13 and was most concerned that it might cost a hundred times more to leave this world than it did to enter. He was predeceased by his wife, Audrey M Crowe who endured him for 57 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by his two sisters, Mrs Janice (Kenneth) Woodcock and Mrs Evelyn (Donald) Carlson. Also predeceasing Mr Crowe were his left knee, right shoulder, most of his molars, and significant hair. He was survived by his two daughters Dr. Kirstin (Daniel) Certalic of Phoenix, AZ and Marit (Charles) Ogin of Orchard Park, NY, five grandchildren Charles, Jackson and Alexia Ogin, Clayton and Audrianna Certalic, and one great grandchild, Hadley Ogin. Raised in Fredonia, NY, he first attended the “Campus” elementary School, Fredonia High School where he was a class officer and then graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 1961 as president of the senior class. In high school he participated in football, track, and basketball (team captain). He also experienced an unspectacular basketball career in college. For his entire life he harbored the unfulfilled desire to become an adequate golfer and was a long time member of Tri County Country Club. In addition to golf he enjoyed ‘falldownhill skiing’, ‘falldown water skiing’, and boating. He was a closet Cleveland Indians fan and held both Sabres and Bills season tickets. He attended the first two Bills Superbowl appearances before realizing hell had not frozen over. Mr. Crowe earned a Master’s degree in education from SUNY Fredonia and a second Master’ degree in chemistry and geology from Union College in Schenectady, NY. He completed his administrative certification at Canisius College and did additional studies at the University of Buffalo. He lived the majority of his life in Silver Creek, NY. He taught chemistry, earth science, general science, and health during his first eight years at Silver Creek Central School before he was appointed junior/senior high school principal. He served in that position for 27 years until his retirement and also served as athletic director for nearly 20 years. He was twice asked to be superintendent but preferred the relationship with students and teachers. He was president of The Chautauqua County Athletic Association and also served several terms as president of the The Chautauqua County Secondary Principals’ Association. Always enjoying competition, he was employed as a part time labor relations negotiator by the Chautauqua County BOCES negotiating labor contracts throughout the county. After retirement, he was elected to the Chautauqua County Legislature where he served four terms as assistant minority leader before deciding to spend his winters in Florida. A member of the Silver Creek Kiwanis Club for over 25 years, he served in nearly every position including president and comic ‘end man’ in Kiwanis Kapers variety shows. He was a founding member of the Silver Creek-Irving Revolving Loan Fund serving as chairman and also a founding member of The Silver Creek Heritage Fund. He was a member of the Northern Chautauqua Community Fund Grants Committee, served as grand marshal of the annual Festival of Grapes parade on two occasions, and was a long time usher at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Obituary Preview: Marion J. Pagano, 89, of Silver Creek, NY passed away on Sunday morning, January 17, 2021, just weeks before his 90th birthday. He was born on February 11, 1931, the son of the late Joseph and Lena (Ortolano) Pagano in Sheridan, NY. He was one of twelve siblings, predeceased by all 6 brothers and four sisters: William (Frances), Mary (Dan) Saltarelli, Lena (Horace) Bifaro, Joseph (Bernice), Charles (Jean), Steven (Grace), James (Theresa), Cecilia (Mike) Petrella, Hyacinth (Arthur) Calcott, Sam (Pat) and Franklin Pagano.
Marion attended Country School #3 in Sheridan until 7th Grade. From there he attended Silver Creek High School and graduated in 1948. He served in the US Army, Occupation of Germany NATO Command from 1952-1954.Upon an honorable discharge, he returned to Silver Creek and worked as a Union Carpenter. In 1959, he started his own construction business in Silver Creek and successfully ran it until his retirement in 1993. At that time, the company was turned over to his son, Franklin.
He was an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, president of the Holy Name Society for several years and was a prior member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
He was married to the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Mary Lou (Pelletter), on May 17, 1952 and they would have soon celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary, They have four children, Franklin (Suzanne Schaff), Marianne (Ron) Bowers, Michael (Jennifer Restivo) all of Silver Creek, NY and Louis (Tammy) of Kentucky; 8 grandchildren: Daniel (Jenna) Pagano of Illinois, Brittany Pagano of Illinois, Brittany Pagano of Illinois, Kayla (Marty) Chenery of Colorado, Michael Jr. and Miranda Pagano and their mother Wendy of Silver Creek and Joseph, Emily and Samuel Bowers of Silver Creek. They also have three great-grandchildren and one on the way: Alaina and Dominic Pagano of Illinois and Mila and baby-to-be Chenery of Colorado. In addition, he has been blessed with four step grandchildren; Christian (Shelbi) Restivo, Marissa, Noah and Grace Restivo and two step great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Eli Restivo; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A special note of sincere gratitude to his private caretaker Pat Newberry, who continues to bless us with her heartfelt care and unending support. Also, a special thanks to the staff at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center for all the incredible care, love and support that they provided to him in his last year. We are so truly grateful to all for helping us during our time of need.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will no public visitation or services. A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk, NY. He was born on September 4, 1930 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Johnson) Prowse. Ed graduated from Kensington High School in Buffalo, NY in 1949 and subsequently served four years in the USAF during The Korean War as a Sr. Aircraft Radio Repairman. He married Carol A. DeJohn
on August 3, 1963 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC Church in Silver Creek. Ed is survived by his wife of 57 years Carol DeJohn; three sons, Edward (Jennifer) Prowse of Dunkirk, NY, James (Katherine) Prowse of Smyrna, GA and Daniel (Kim Meinert) Prowse of Wauwatosa, WI; five grandchildren, Ariel, Gabriella, Nathaniel, Leo and Clara Prowse; two great grandchildren, Aaliyah and
Leilani Buchanan-Ruiz.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Gerard and James Prowse. After working many years as an electronics technician, Ed came to Silver Creek, working at Guarcello’s Inc. and eventually as manager for DeJohn’s True Value Hardware store. He retired in 1995 after more
than 20 years. Ed was an active member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC Church, where he faithfully served as an early Eucharistic Minister and also a 4 th Degree Knights of Columbus. He loved to golf and was a member of the Tri-County Country Club where he enjoyed playing with his family and friends. In addition to several men’s leagues, he and Carol teamed up in the Mixed Couples league for many years. Annual Myrtle

Obituary Preview: Frank N. Borrello, 77, of Silver Creek, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunkirk, NY. Heaven gave a wonderful welcome as he was reunited with his father and mother, George and Concetta (Flitt) Borrello and his wife, Peggy, whom he was so dedicated too. His welcoming party also comprised of six grandchildren, including Eric and Emma Borrello.
Frank was born on April 30, 1943 in Silver Creek and was a lifelong area resident. He loved his community and was a tireless and selfless volunteer at the Samuel Cimino VFW Post 6472, American Legion Post 148, Knights of Columbus and as a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church in Silver Creek. Frank was a passionate patriot for the U.S.A. and proudly served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Many locals also came to know his radiant smile during his 34 years working for the United States Postal Service, he took an early retirement as Postmaster in Sheridan, NY to take care of his dear wife, Peggy.
Heaven will be a bit rowdier when the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees play, as Frank was one of their biggest fans. There are cherished memories of how much he looked forward to annual summer camping trips to the Allegany State Park and playing horseshoes with family. Frank adored his loved ones and many knew how proud he was of each of them. He relished spending time with his son, Frank, daughter-in-law, Jenn and his grandson, Christian and savored Buffalo Bisons games. He was extremely excited when he and Peggy would fly to Florida to visit their daughter Dawn, son-in-law, Greg and their grandchildren, Madison, Alexandria, Kara, and Brandon. He was delighted to be at the hospital for the birth of his grandchildren and was present at as many family celebrations as possible. Frank’s family was the pride and joy of his life. The legacy of his gentle and loving spirit, passion for sports and zest for life will live on through them. Frank will be dearly missed by many as the genuine loving person he was, including his brother, Anthony (Tony) and sister-in-law, Deanna, several nieces, nephews, cousins and community friends.

Saturday, December 19th, 2020 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Joanne was born in Silver Creek, New York on February 4th, 1932 to Milford Ernest and Margaret Claire (Newton) West. Joanne is survived by her three children Suzanne (Robert) Orr and Michael (Dawn) DePasquale of Silver Creek, NY, Louis (Irene) DePasquale of Penneville, NY, eleven grandchildren, special niece Patricia Einhouse, special friend Beula Einhouse, special grand dog Rookie, as well as many great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by husband of 54 years Loreto DePasquale, daughter, Cindy (DePasquale) Krebs, and siblings Barbara and Richard West. Joanne graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1951 and was employed at the Dutch Kitchen and Seegert’s Dairy. She married high school sweetheart Loreto DePasquale on January 7th 1955. Joanne enjoyed reading, baking, puzzles, home bureau, playing rummy with her grandchildren and celebrating holidays with her entire family. The family wants to give a special thank you to her neighbors, the Deifenbach and Johnson Families for all their acts of kindness. Flowers are gratefully declined. Obituary Preview: David A. “Dave” Gordon, 72, of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation and a member of the Hawk Clan passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, NY.
He was born on March 9, 1948 in Gowanda, NY the son of the late Hannibal and Edna (Kenjockety) Gordon. He married Carole Thompson on March 10, 1979.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years Carole Gordon; two sons, Dion Gordon of Lapwai, Idaho and Daniel Seneca of Irving, NY; three daughters, Valerie Seneca of Miami, OK, Christine Seneca and Barbara Ramsey both of Irving, NY; a brother, Richard Gordon of Irving; a sister, Gloria (Roland) Garrow of Irving; 17 Grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Danette Gordon, two sons, Matthew Maybee and Harlan Seneca also a brother, Edwin Gordon.
Dave attended Gowanda High School and the Santa Fe Institute of Indian Arts. He was a licensed Dental Lab Technician as well as a licensed welder and plumber. He retired from the Seneca Nation Housing Authority where he worked in the maintenance department. Dave was a talented artist and musician who  enjoyed making Indian crafts and jewelry. He lived out west for a number of years where he played drums and sang in several country western bands, mostly in Oklahoma, Kansas and New Mexico. He was fondly known as the “Dam Yankee Indian”.

Angeline N. “Ange” Flitt, 96, of Silver Creek, NY passed away on Sunday evening December 6, 2020 at the Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, NY with her loving family at her side.
Ange was born on January 27, 1924 in Sheridan, NY the daughter of the late Vito and Nicoletta (Manzella) Flitt. Surviving are a loving sister Shirley Flitt of Silver Creek; she is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; also a feline companion, “TuTu”
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Tony, Frank, and Carmen Flitt; four sisters, Minnie Borrello, Mary Torregrossa, Josephine Arnold and Louise Villafranca. Ange was a lifelong area resident who grew up on the family grape farm. She was the fifth child of nine children who lived in Sheridan, NY for 95 years, everybody pitched in and worked on the farm. The “Matriarch” of her family, she took her great niece, Lindsay under her care after Lindsay’s mother passed on at a very young age. She helped to raise her as one of her own. “Family” was everything to her she loved to cook for friends and family and Ange’s specialty was homemade spaghetti, every Sunday and “Jambot” (hot peppers, plum tomatoes, garlic & onions) this was her secret recipe everybody enjoyed!
Ange had a heart of gold, a friend described her as a beautiful woman with a kind soul who served as an angel on this earth and they were blessed to have known her. She will be dearly missed by family and friend’s heaven is a better place now that it has gained a true “Angel”.
Ange loved the Yankees she never missed a game and was an avid Buffalo Bills and Sabres Fan.
No prior visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC Church, 165 Central Ave. Silver Creek at 10:00 AM. Please assemble at the church. Obituary Preview: Gilbert W. “Gib” Seegert, 73, of Silver Creek, NY passed away unexpectedly on Saturday evening December 5, 2020 at his home with his loving family at his side.
Gib was born on March 18, 1947 in Silver Creek, the son of the late Frederick and Phyllis (Czajkowski) Seegert. On June 13, 1970 he married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth S. Mangano and together they raised two beautiful daughters.
Gib is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Seegert; two daughters, Kristin (Anthony) Dolce of Orchard Park, NY and Megan Seegert of Atlanta, GA; four cherished grandchildren, Ava, Sophia, Nicholas and Gianna Seegert; a brother, Fritz (Sue) Seegert Jr. of Silver Creek; a sister, Marie (Michael) Keane of Lancaster, NY; his therapy cat “Buster”; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Gib graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1966. He enlisted in U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War doing combat duty from March 1968 to April 1969.  He worked for NYSTA as a heavy equipment operator, retired after 34 years of service, he also was the Employee Assistance Program Coordinator. Throughout all this Gib attended night school for 10 years earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in “Human Services” from Medaille College in Buffalo, NY. He went onto receive certification from Erie Community College in Alcohol- Substance Abuse and was awarded a scholarship to Rutgers University in Substance Abuse Studies. He served as an outpatient-inpatient substance abuse counselor at the former Gowanda Hospital, also in Dunkirk, Cassadaga and Derby outpatient clinics. He counseled at the Mental Health Unit for Lakeshore Hospital for five years. Gib was a kind compassionate man who tried to help people with substance abuse addictions, having faced his own head on and overcoming them.
Gib was passionate about golf, he enjoyed playing recreationally and competitively. He was a former “Club Champion “at Gowanda Country Club.
Gib’s memberships included the Samuel Cimino VFW Post 6472 in Silver Creek, where he was a life member, Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 459, the Tri-County Country Club, he served on the Board of Directors and the Gowanda Country Club.
He will be dearly missed by his family and many great friends.

Surviving are her beloved children; a daughter, Carolyn S. Williams of Irving, NY; a son, Jaime Williams of Irving, NY; four cherished grandchildren, Alexis and Lauryn Williams, Bryanna Blackchief and Brayden Cullinan; a great granddaughter, Aubree Jonathan; a sister, Sheryl Malecki of Williamsville, NY.
Michele was preceded in death by her mother, Dawn Budd and a sister, Nicole Budd.
Michele was a 1978 graduate of Silver Creek Central High School. She continued her studies at Bryant & Stratton College in Buffalo, where she studied business administration. She worked for many years at the Early Childhood Learning Center on the Cattaraugus Reservation as a teacher’s aide. Michele was a proud member of the Turtle Clan of the Seneca Nation of Indians.
Michele was known for her generous and caring personality. She loved arts & crafts and was an accomplished “Native Crafter” in beading and basketry. She enjoyed cooking, at the holidays Michele would make fruit baskets and cookies to share with friends, family and people less fortunate. She will be dearly missed by her family and many dear friends.

In addition to her parents Linda was preceded in death by a sister, Noreen Hill.
Linda enjoyed arts& crafts, cooking, reading autobiographies of famous people and ghost hunting. She was a homemaker her family was the most important part of her life. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Mayme R. DeJohn - October 24, 1920 - November 19, 2020

Obituary Preview: Mayme DeJohn, 100, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020 at Brooks Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 24, 1920 in Fredonia, the daughter of O. George Mancuso and Jenni (Tampio) Mancuso of Moore Ave. She went through schools in Fredonia and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1938. She was a resident of Fredonia Place since Nov. 2009.
She was employed by Van Raalte Co. as a seamstress and married Anthony A. DeJohn on Feb. 7, 1942. Her husband was drafted into the Army in April 1942 when she was with Van Raalte and then as a sales clerk for the former Safe Store on Central Ave. in Dunkirk. She resided in Dunkirk from 1942 to 1945. She attended Holy Trinity Church during that time and was a member and secretary of its Blessed Sacrament Society.
After World War II she and her husband moved to Silver Creek in 1945 where they had, and raised, their three children, Anthony, Michael and Virginia. Her husband died in March 1995. She continued to live in Silver Creek until Nov. 2009.
In 1956 she worked as a sales clerk in the Silver Creek Variety Store, then in the Silver Creek school cafeteria for three years (1962-65). From 1965-1975 she and her husband owned and operated DeJohn’s Wine and Liquor Shop in downtown Silver Creek.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Silver Creek since 1945 and the Rosary Altar Society, serving at various times as secretary, treasurer and vice president. She became a Eucharistic minister in 1979 when she was installed with a group by Bishop Edward Head at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Buffalo. She served for over 20 years at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel where she enjoyed daily mass and becoming one of the original “Toast Ladies.” She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Social Club of which she served as president, secretary and chaplain.
She was also a member of TOP #890, Silver Creek, and in March 1997, she received the five-year KOPS award at the state meeting in Syracuse, New York.
She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and church affairs (Bingo kitchen), sewing gardening, sketching and oil painting. In her earlier years, she also did ceramics and made many beautiful things for her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Michael G. DeJohn (Judi), Nov. 2009, brothers Frank O. Mancuso, Dec. 2007, James A. Mancuso, Oct. 2016, two sisters, Antonina (Ann) Mancuso, Jan. 2009, and Vincie D’Angelo-DeJoe, April 2009.
Surviving are a son, Anthony F. DeJohn (Judy), Chesterfield, Mo., a daughter, Virginia DeJohn-Gaura (John), Fredonia, formerly of Ft. Worth, Texas. Also surviving are a brother Dr. Charles S. Mancuso, Bedford, N.H., four sisters: Gina Palermo and Lucilla Mancuso, both of Fredonia, Caroline Lidell and Marie (Bill) Sweeney, both of Washington state and three grandchildren: Jennifer Lynn DeJohn, Chesterfield, Mo.; Anthony J. DeJohn (Shannon), Falls Church, Va.; Heather DeJohn-Mathis, Kennesaw, Ga.; two great-grandsons, Kepler and Lincoln, Falls Church, Va. ; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: John R. Vickers, 80, of Silver Creek, NY passed away on Saturday morning November 14, 2020 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunkirk, NY.
He was born on April 17, 1940 in Silver Creek, the son of the late Lawrence and Mary Rae (Abbey) Vickers.
John was a patriot who served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1965. He worked as a truck driver for Praxair until the late 1990’s. John was a member of the Lakeshore Street Rod Association for over 20 years and he enjoyed driving his classic cars and trucks all over Chautauqua County. He also was a member of the Sheridan VFW for over 15 years.
Surviving are his son, Robert Vickers; a grandson, Kevin Vickers; great-granddaughter, Chloe Vickers; a sister, Ann Vickers; a cousin, David Lalomia Sr.; step-daughters, Colleen Boucher and Michelle Botticelli; a great-niece, Jessica Smith. John is now reunited with his wife, Nancy Botticelli- Vickers (2009), his son, the late Kevin Vickers and their beloved golden retriever, “Sassy”.
If you knew John you could find him in the smoking lounge at Native Pride or Tom’s Diner with his breakfast club every Sunday morning. He was a witty, easy-going soul who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was born on June 13,1926 in Delaware, Ohio the son of the late Wesley and Hannah (Browning) Dewey. He married the love of his life Barbara J. Lawton on Nov. 23,1949 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Silver Creek, NY. She preceded in death on September 24,2016.
Jim is survived by his loving daughter, Virginia (Mark) Parsons of Hamburg, NY; a cherished granddaughter, Andrea (Rafael Zegarra) Parsons of Tonawanda, NY; a dear brother, Donald (Janet) Dewey of Ashley, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Barbara J. Dewey and an infant daughter, Katherine Dewey.
Jim was a graduate of the Frank B. Wilson High School in Delaware, Ohio, “Class of 1944”.  He lettered in basketball and tennis. He was a patriot, joining the U.S. Navy in1944 serving in the Philippines during WWII and was honorably discharged in1946. He was called back into the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and served on the USS Enoree (AO-69) from 1950-1952, they hauled oil between Aruba and different ports in the USA. He worked for 35 years as a crane operator for the Ford Stamping in Buffalo, NY, retiring in 1988.
Jim’s memberships included the Silver Creek Volunteer Fire Dept., 50year member, the Silver Creek Emergency Squad, 10year member, the Samuel Cimino VFW Post 6472, the Silver Lodge F & AM # 757, a 32 Degree Mason. He was appointed Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge of the Chautauqua District in 1982 & 1983. Jim loved to golf and belonged to the Tri-County Country Club for over 60 years, where he served on the board for 6 years.
Jim enjoyed life to the fullest. He always said everyday I meet a new friend it was a great day! He considered himself blessed for having a great wife to go through life together and a loving family. He will be dearly missed by family and many great friends.

Ron is survived by his wife of 29 years, Dawn Griewisch; a daughter, Samantha Lau of Silver Creek; two brothers, Jeffrey (Colleen) and Herman Griewisch Jr. of Silver Creek; a sister, Patricia (Michael) Smith of Forestville, NY; four nieces, Lauryn, Alicia, Rebecca and Hannah; seven nephews, Brandyn, Nathan, Cody, Jordan, Billy, Luca and Chris; his father and mother in-laws, William and Carol (Prigge) Osar; a brother-in-law; Mike Osar; four sisters-in-law, Charmaine Patterson, Cammy Vollrath, Cheryl Osar and Doreen Schwartz.
Ron was a lifelong area resident, who graduated from Silver Creek Central School in 1979. He worked for Global Environmental Industrial in Dunkirk, NY as a supervisor for over fourteen years.
Ron was an active member of the Silver Creek Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as a lieutenant in the Fire Police. He loved his canine companions, “Kazoo” and “Ruger”, hunting, taking long rides in the country, but most of all his family was everything to him. Ron never took one day of his life for granted and tried to make every day count.

Surviving are his two daughters, Michelle (Joel) Procknal of Silver Creek and Sarah (DJ Spatoulas) Spekczynski- Bardo of Tampa, Fla.; a son, Christopher ( Katie Triano) Bardo of Tampa, Fla; four grandchildren, Kylie and Alex Procknal, Kadence Weber and Dominic Spatoulas; a sister, Sandra (Jim) Fuzak of Williamsville, NY; a brother, Paul Bardo of Silver Creek; two extended family members, Shawn Ferguson of Gowanda, NY and Bill DeWeese of Silver Creek; also many dear and great friends.
In addition to his parents Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Valentine and a sister-in-law, Karin (Catalano) Bardo.
Larry was a lifelong area resident, who was self-employed working in the food distribution business. He provided Petri Cookies and Bachman Potato Chips to regional grocery stores in WNY. In his younger years Larry was a Little League coach for the Bee-Auto baseball team. He enjoyed bowling and golfing and was a diehard Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan. He also liked to gamble a little bit playing cards, his preference was blackjack and poker and occasionally the slots. He had many great friends who he would meet daily at Tim Horton’s in Irving, NY to catch up and solve the world’s problems.

Thomas A. Cuccia, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday afternoon at the Buffalo General Medical Center in Buffalo, NY.
He was born in Silver Creek, NY, the son of the late Charles and Helen (Kraft) Cuccia.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years , Lisa (Prosneick) Cuccia of Fredonia, NY; a loving daughter, Angela Cuccia of Fredonia; a cherished granddaughter, Arabella Cuccia of Fredonia; two brothers, Chuck and Danny Cuccia both of Fredonia; two sisters, Theresa ( Joseph) Abramo of Port St. Lucie, Fla. and Diana (Butch) Piglowski of Dunkirk, NY; also survived by several nieces, nephews and many great friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Toni Jo Bushman.
Tom attended Dunkirk High School. He was a veteran who served in the United States Navy Seebees during the Vietnam War from June 9,1970- Dec. 4,1972. He worked for H. Olsen& Sons Contractors Inc. in Forestville for over 20 years as laborer and truck driver.
Tom liked working with his hands, so he taught himself how to upholster furniture and many other items, he became very accomplished at it and did jobs for many businesses in the area. He really enjoyed shooting pool, he played for Sara’s Tavern in Dunkirk in a local pool league. He listened to all types of music and taught himself to play the drums. Tom took great pride in his homemade spaghetti sauce and lentil soup which he proudly shared with family and friends. In addition, he avidly supported the Lakeshore Humane Society and would rescue any animal he could. Family was most important to him and he adored his granddaughter.
At the request of the deceased, services will be private. Interment will be made at Mt Carmel Cemetery in Silver Creek.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Thomas’s memory be made to: Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St. Dunkirk, NY 14048.
