Palma T. Gervasi - August 29, 1920 - April 28, 2024

Departed: 04/28/2024 (Yonkers)
Obituary Preview: Palma Theresa Gervasi, a cherished matriarch and esteemed member of Bronx, Dutchess County, and the Eastern Shore communities, peacefully passed away on April 28th, 2024, at the age of 103. Her life was a tapestry woven with resilience, love, and unwavering dedication to her family. Born on August 29th, 1920 in the Bronx to Rose and Michael Briglio, Palma's journey through life was a testament to the enduring strength of the human spirit.
In 1943, Palma married her childhood sweetheart, Anthony John Gervasi, embarking on a lifelong partnership that endured for 59 years until his passing. Together, they confronted the challenges of military life during World War II, with Palma steadfastly supporting her husband as they moved between posts in Washington state and Kansas before his deployment overseas to Europe. Upon his return, they lovingly raised two daughters, Palma Ann and Diana, together in the Bronx. Their enduring love and shared experiences formed an unbreakable bond that withstood the passage of time.
Palma's life was a constant evolution of growth and learning. She discovered her passion for art at an early age, becoming president of her high school's art club and later working at Marcross, a greeting card company, in their silkscreen department. After raising her daughters, she pursued higher education in her fifties to obtain her Master of Science in Education, attending college alongside them and embracing a new chapter of intellectual exploration. Utilizing her sharp mind and discerning eye, Palma contributed her expertise to the academic community by evaluating the credentials of foreign students for the City University of New York. When reflecting on her life during her 100 th birthday, she said she was most happy and fulfilled when she was working and helping others. After retirement, her passion for art was reignited when she discovered art classes offered to members of the Bronx Botanical Garden Society. Enrolling in her first class, she found herself captivated by the art of painting on porcelain dishes and then Chinese Watercolor Brush Painting on rice paper.
In addition to art, she loved and enjoyed many pastimes. She had two green thumbs and loved caring for her many plants and orchids, sometimes featured in her artwork. She always enjoyed listening to music – the big band era one of her favorites, as well as classical and opera. She loved to travel, often with friends and family-bringing home mementos of new cultures and experiences. If not already traveling to or with friends, she was a gracious entertainer bringing people together with great food, unparalleled cooking, and sage stories. An avid sports fan, she could tell you every stat and score for any New York team on any given day. She too personally enjoyed sports and competition. If you were a sore loser after she beat you in bocci or canasta, she’d say “she had a 100 year of practice”.
As a proud member of the "greatest generation," Palma bore witness to a century of remarkable progress and change, from the Roaring Twenties to the moon landing, the advent of computers and the internet, and beyond. Her life embodied the resilience and adaptability that defined her generation, radiating a spirit of perseverance and optimism in the face of adversity.
While her relocation to the Eastern Shore brought her closer to family members, including her beloved grandchildren, Samuel Kalaminsky and Rachel Miles, and her great-granddaughter, Madeleine, Palma's legacy transcends geographical boundaries. Her presence in the lives of those she touched will be forever cherished, a guiding light of inspiration that will continue to uplift and inspire generations to come. Flowers are welcomed but if you choose in lieu of flowers donations in Palma’s name can be made to Parkinson’s Foundation Support the Parkinson's Foundation - Parkinson's Foundation Viewing will be held on Friday, May 3rd, 2024 from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. in Hodder Farenga Funeral Home, 899 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704 Chapel service will be held on Saturday, May 4th, 2024 at 11:15 A.M. in Hodder Farenga Funeral Home, Yonkers, NY Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY

John Coleman - April 13, 1965 - March 12, 2024

Departed: 03/12/2024 (Yonkers)
Obituary Preview: John Coleman
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Coleman, on March 12, at the age of 58 from a long, brave battle with cancer. Beloved son, husband, father, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend to all.
John is survived by his mother Catherine, his wife Andrea, his children Lauren and Jake, his stepson Neil; his siblings James (Mary), Patricia, Maureen, and Chris; his nieces and nephews Caitlin, Kevin, Kara, Andrew, and Kelly. He is predeceased by his father, James and his brother-in-law, Vinny Burns.
He was the 4th of 5 children, born on April 13, 1965 to James and Catherine. John was extremely proud of his Irish heritage, faith in God, Woodlawn roots and most importantly, his family. He knew how to treat a lady and it began with his love for his mother.
John was a true Woodlawn Legend and was known to have many nicknames – Red, Cool Breeze, El Rojo, and 3:16, to name a few.
Growing up in Woodlawn and throughout his real estate career, John forged many lifelong friendships. He was larger than life - everyone wanted to be his friend…and everyone was his friend.
In his teenage years, his athletic skills were shown on the basketball court, and helped lead the way to several championships. Later he would become a great basketball coach for younger generations. His Irish football days started with his father’s love of the game. He played with the Celtics and continued with St. Barnabas. He never missed an opportunity to support his alma maters - St. Barnabas and Mount St. Michael Academy, particularly marching in the Woodlawn St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Among his countless great accomplishments, John was most proud of his children Lauren and Jake. We can thank the mother of his children, Linda, for making their beautiful life together possible. He made everything in their life a celebration whether it was birthdays, vacations, graduations, or simply a random day of the week. They were the light of his life and his admiration for them was profound.
He had a special bond with his stepson, Neil, who like many others, considered John his best friend. Time with his loved ones was what he treasured most. He adored his nieces and nephews as well and often included them in his adventures and celebrations.
All throughout his life, he was the friend that would do anything for you. There was no ask that was too much. He always showed up and he always made things happen. In addition to his commitment to his own recovery, he was instrumental in helping others through their recovery.
Eight years ago, he found the love of his life Andrea and they married in 2023. Andrea was John’s angel, best friend, and most avid supporter, especially during the difficult days.
John was a shining light in everyone’s life and his imprint will last forever. His passing has left a tremendous hole in our hearts, but we are incredibly grateful knowing he is now at peace.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M.and Monday, March 18, 2024 from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. in Hodder Farenga Funeral Home, 899 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, N.Y. 10704.

Rosemarie A. Murphy - August 19, 1945 - February 29, 2024

Departed: 02/29/2024 (Yonkers)
Obituary Preview: It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our special angel, Rosemarie A. Murphy at the age of 78. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all.
She is survived by her husband Tim, her two children-Kristen and Brendan, her six grandchildren-Ryan, Darren, Austin, Jake, Michael and Frankie, her loving sister Julie along with her son in law Jimmy and daughter in law Maria.
Rosemarie was such an amazing woman. Born on August 19, 1945 she began her journey in Brooklyn. Losing her parents at an early age, she and her brother (Frank) and sister (Julie) navigated their way through the puzzle of life by sticking together, relying on family and hitting every challenge head on.
For most of her professional life she worked as a secretary/medical transcriber to the chairman in Montefiore pathology-typing and translating words that many can't even begin to pronounce. She was a cherished colleague and mentor to many in her practice. But it was her toughness and resiliency that led her to be the matriarch of the family. Always willing to help, guide and most importantly feed and nourish her family-she would do anything for them including fiercely protecting and watching over. She loved her audiobook sessions, walks around Tibets and Macy's, preparing meals, rides out to Westhampton Beach and most importantly hearing how her family/grandchildren were doing and then ultimately chiming in where she thought there could be improvements-which were always directed at her husband and children lol.
Her love for family, faith and commitment to the guidance of the Virgin Mary was the pinnacle of her life. She will be severely missed by all but know full well that she will be watching over us forever with that amazing smile and chuckle of hers.
She is reunited in heaven with her parents, brother and those loved ones that had an impact in her life making her truly the strongest person we have ever known.
We love you and will miss you always. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. in Hodder Farenga Funeral Home, 899 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, N.Y. 10704 Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 10:45 A.M in St. Barnabas  Church, Bronx, NY Cremation to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY

Margaret Rita Fallon - April 07, 1947 - February 14, 2024

Departed: 02/14/2024 (Yonkers)
Obituary Preview: Margaret “Rita” Fallon
Margaret Esther Fallon was born to her beloved mother, Bridget Dolan and father Luke Brennan on Easter Monday, April 7, 1947 in Knockcroghery, County Roscommon, Ireland. And sadly, passed away on the first day of Lent and St Valentines Day, February 14, 2024, at the age of 76 with her utterly devoted and loving husband by her side.
Rita is survived by her husband Brian, daughters Margaret, Deirdra and Tara, her grandchildren Shannon, Cillian and Aidan, as well as her brothers Jim and John Brennan. She will be reunited with her brother Eamon, sister Christina and most cherished grandson Brian. After coming to America at age 19, Rita worked as a telephone operator before spending most of her working life as a nurse’s aide to the elderly. This loving and caring spirit was integral throughout her life, forming the basis of her love for her family. This commitment was evident through gatherings with extended family, weekend excursions and family dinners. Any reason to be together was welcomed and encouraged. Rita loved music and dancing, attending ceilis at every opportunity. She imparted these loves to her children and grandchildren, often creating lyrics to correspond to whatever situation or chore she would be involved in. A boss in the kitchen, fiercely competitive card player, an avid bike rider, Rita was a force to be counted on day or night, regardless of circumstance. Most of all, she was a giver. Charities of all kinds received donations. Sponsoring children, participating in midnight runs and monthly visits to donate blood were a part of her routine. A
woman whose faith shaped her core beliefs, Rita was dedicated to her parish, often invoking her belief in God with a “give it over to God” or “God only gives you what you can handle”. It was God’s plan that she be brought into the world on Easter Monday and was called back to God on Ash Wednesday, bookending the holiest of Catholic seasons.
The family asks that you please join them at the reception to be held at the Heritage Restaurant, following the burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery on Tuesday, February 20th to celebrate and remember her beautiful life. She would have wanted nothing more than friends and family to spend this time together.
