Departed: 04/18/2024 (Lafayette)
Obituary Preview: Jackson (Jack) L. Anderson, 94, of Lafayette, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at IU Health Arnett Hospital. Born on October 30, 1929, to the late George and Leatha (Daniels) Anderson, Jack's life was a rich with love, service, dedication, and a profound appreciation for history.
A graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1949, Jack answered the call of duty, serving his country with pride in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On January 10, 1951, Jack exchanged vows with the love of his life, Barbara Helen Brown, embarking on a journey that spanned 34 beautiful years until her passing on August 31, 1985.
Throughout his remarkable life, Jack dedicated over six decades to the craft of carpentry, finding fulfillment in every nail driven and board laid. He even built his own house that still stands strong today, as he would say, "You will never find a crack in my wall, this foundation is solid" as he was very proud of his hard work. As a member of the Carpenters Local #215 and American Legion, he not only honed his skills but also found camaraderie and purpose in his work.
Jack's love for history was evident in his lifelong passion for learning and preserving the past. Whether poring over books or sharing stories with loved ones, he reveled in the richness of times gone by.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Jack's devotion to family knew no bounds. His adoration for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was boundless, their laughter and smiles bringing him immeasurable joy. He delighted in passing down stories of family heritage and imparting wisdom garnered over a lifetime.
Jack's passion for trains, ignited in his youth, blossomed into an enduring fascination, leading to the creation of an impressive model train collection. Nestled within the walls of the "Train Room," this cherished collection became a sanctuary of joy, eagerly shared with all who entered, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, James (Cindy) Anderson, and a legacy of love embodied in his five grandchildren: Amanda (Jason) Wade, Ashlie (Jeff) Tislow, Jeffrey (Whitney) Anderson, James Anglin, and Paul Anglin, along with eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Barbara, Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice (Kenneth) Anglin, and his siblings: Opal Pauline Jackson, Marion Louise Lang, Evelyn Lucille Parker, and George Junior Anderson.
We believe if Jack had one last message it would be "It's been a "PFG" run, and I wish you all a "PFG" life". Those who knew Jack well, will know what this means. A graveside service, honoring Jack's life and service, will be held on Friday, May 3rd, at 11:00 a.m. at Spring Vale Cemetery, where he will be accorded military honors.
