Hershel E. Detty, 88, of Chillicothe, entered into Heaven on May 3, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 1, 1935, in McArthur, the son of the late Raymond and Audrey (Stewart) Detty. On February 24, 1955, he united in marriage with his loving wife, Marlene June “Peg” (Carper) Detty, who preceded him in death on September 20, 2022.
Hershel is survived by his children, Jodie (Fred) Jones, Jana Detty, Joan (Brad) Muntz, and Jeff (Melanie) Detty; grandchildren, Noah (Heather) Muntz, Gabriel Muntz, Olivia Muntz, Jordan Detty, Dalton Detty, Keigan Detty, Kyle (Amy) Jones, Emily (Russell) Hainline, and McKenzie Jones; great-grandchildren, Adison and Ray Muntz, Asa and Asher Detty, and Emmett and Vivian Jones; special niece, Kathy (Robert) Wakefield; and numerous other special family members and friends whom he cherished.
In addition to his wife, Hershel was preceded in death by his seven siblings.
Hershel was a 1953 graduate of Allensville High School. He retired from Mead Paper Corporation after 44 years of service and he was the President and Union Representative for the International Union 988 for many years. Hershel was very active in his community by serving as a member for the Zane Trace School Board for 16 years and was a founding member of and served as the 4-H Advisor for the Bonanza 4-H Club for 45 years. As demonstrated by his 4-H involvement, he had a deep passion for horses and was a horse trainer and blacksmith/farrier for many years. Hershel also enjoyed coaching little league baseball and football and ladies’ softball. He was also a longtime member of Chillicothe First Assembly of God.

Janice S. (Snyder) Wiseman, 89, of Circleville, entered into Heaven on April 28, 2024 at Brown Memorial Nursing Home following an extended illness. She was born July 9, 1934, in Laurel City, West Virginia, to the late Everett K. and Stachie Faye (Jeffrey) Snyder.
In 1953, she married the love of her life, the late Willard R. “Pete” Wiseman, and the two were blessed with 60 years together. Janice spoke often of the fact that they only had $20 to their name when they were married and with hard work, dedication, and God’s help were able to raise a family and quietly help countless others in need over the years. Pete’s brother, James, married Janice’s sister, Patricia, and the two couples and their children shared a very special lifelong bond as a result.
A loving mother and grandmother to many, Janice is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Dennis) Shaw, of Circleville; four grandchildren, Jason (Lisa) Wiseman, of Kingston, Jennifer (Barry) Petty, of Circleville, Josh Shaw, of Williamsburg, and Justin (Ashley) Wiseman, of Adelphi; eight great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Bret Petty, Savannah and Micah Shaw, Leah and Abigail Wiseman, and Madelyn and Ella Mae Wiseman; daughter-in-law, Lois Wiseman; sister, Patricia (Roy) Stone; sister-in-law, E. Marie Bostic; numerous special nieces and nephews from West Virginia; and numerous other special family members and friends whom she cherished.
In addition to her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by her son, Ralph Wiseman; siblings, Curtis Snyder and Mary Deck; brother-in-law, James C. Wiseman; nephew, James B. Wiseman; and niece, Gail (Deck) Cochran.
In 1951, Janice graduated at the age of 16 from Duvall High School in Lincoln County, West Virginia. Janice worked at Gunnoe’s Grocery Store as a teenager and worked at Jim’s Pay and Save for many years after her children were grown. Janice was a wonderful cook and she made sure no one ever went hungry in her presence. While Pete and Janice were hard workers, they always made time for family beach vacations that always included the other Wiseman family and other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to especially thank Lisa Jarvis and her Ohio Health Hospice care team and numerous home healthcare workers for the extraordinary care given to Janice during her illness.
Funeral Services will be Friday, May 3, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston with Rev. Jim Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow in Hitler Ludwig Cemetery, Circleville. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at Hill’s.

Lori S. (Estep) Koker, 59, of Kingston, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her loving family following a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was born on October 30, 1964, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth “Libby” (Hurt) Estep.
Lori is survived by her loving husband, Allen Koker; beloved sons, Shane (Jess) Merriman and D.J. (Heather) Merriman; step-daughter, Kaylee Koker; grandchildren, Willow Merriman, Hadley Merriman, Carson Merriman, and Levi Merriman; mother-in-law, Carolyn Koker; countless volleyball players, assistant coaches, and supportive administration; and numerous other special family members and friends whom she cherished.
Lori was a 1983 graduate of Chillicothe High School. She went on to work as a dispatcher for Ohio State Highway Patrol, a driver’s examiner for the Ohio State Highway Patrol and worked at Citizens National Bank. She also held numerous positions at local school districts until her retirement in 2018 including Westfall Local Schools (Monroe Elementary), Cafeteria Supervisor (Westfall Local Schools), Superintendent’s Secretary (Zane Trace Local Schools), Athletic Director’s Secretary (Southeastern High School), and Special Education Aid (Pickaway-Ross CTC).
Lori was an accomplished and highly decorated high school volleyball coach who earned recognition in the OHSVCA Hall of Fame and Westfall Athletic Hall of Fame. She was the Westfall Head Volleyball Coach for 14 seasons (1997-2010) and during that time won 2 SVC Championships, 13 Sectional Championships, 11 District Championships, 3 Regional Championships and 3 State Final Four Appearances. She was also recognized as SVC Coach of the Year and District Coach of the Year during her time at Westfall. Lori went on to lead the Zane Trace Pioneers Volleyball Program as Head Coach for 6 seasons (2011-2016). She led the Pioneers to 1 SVC Championship, 5 Sectional Championships, and 1 District Championship, as well as, recognition as SVC and District Coach of the Year. In 2020, Lori became the Southeastern High School Head Volleyball Coach and lead the Panthers for 3 seasons (2020-2022) to 2 Sectional Championships and 1 District Runner-up. Lori’s coaching achievements also included having over 400 career wins and being the namesake of the Lori Koker Award, which is awarded annually to the best senior volleyball player in Pickaway County.
Shortly after her diagnosis, Lori founded the Pink Pack Tribe, a support group for cancer patients in the Ross County Area. Lori stated that she did not want it to be about the cancer, but to be about the fight. She demonstrated that through her immense bravery and determination to help and educate others through her journey.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Zane Trace High School Gymnasium with Pastor Kim Graves officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the school. Arrangements have been entrusted to the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston.

Jerry Lee Betkey, Sr., 85, of Kingston, went to be with the Lord at 12:30 a.m. on April 22, 2024 at his residence. He was born on March 6, 1939, in Waverly, the son of the late Charles and Wanda (Yeager) Betkey.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Carol (Hughes) Betkey; beloved children, Debra (John) Sullivan, of Broadway, Ohio, Nora May, of Wauseon, Ohio, and Jerry Lee (Julie) Betkey, Jr., of Mooresville, Tennessee; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Danny (Sandra) Betkey, Michael (Leah) Scott, Carol Chandler, and Sandy Vickers; and numerous other special family members and friends whom he cherished.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his wife and mother of his children, Sharon Lee Betkey; daughter, Pamela Miller; great-granddaughter, Olivia Rose Moore; and siblings, Eddie Betkey and Patty Parks.
Jerry retired from Dana Corporation after 30 years of service. After retirement, he was a bus driver for the Board of Developmental Disabilities. Jerry loved life, traveling, and his family and his pets. He spent many years in Black Canyon City, Arizona enjoying mountain climbing, panning for gold, and exploring everything Arizona had to offer. Jerry was known as a selfless person who would offer help to anyone.

Sherry Lynn (Congrove) Mitchell, 52, of Laurelville, was carried by her Good Shepherd and entered into Heaven peacefully on April 21, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her loving family following a brief battle with cancer. All the while whispering in her ear “well done good and faithful servant, today you will be with me in paradise!” She was born on July 9, 1971, in Logan, the daughter of the late James Congrove and Carolyn (Danner) Hunter, who survives.
Sherry is survived by her loving husband, Jesus Mitchell; beloved daughter, Kayla (Aaron) Schwalbauch, of Kingston; mother, Carolyn (Glenn) Hunter; step-children, Lilianna Mitchell, Malachi Mitchell, and Eli Mitchell; grandchild, Rocky Schwalbauch; sister, Jeanette (Heath) Cox; special niece, Andrea Liff; canine companions, Bella and Buster; and numerous other special family members and friends whom she cherished.
In addition to her father, Sherry was preceded in death by her infant son, Bryan Gray. Sherry was a 1989 graduate of Zane Trace High School. She never once wavered through unbelief but believed that His promises were true. Her short battle with cancer (which was a word we were never afraid of) shows His mercy and love He had for her and her commitment to Him. We were blessed to live a full life up to the last, even taking 7 mile hikes just this past December. And not once in the last four months did she complain or even indicate that she was in any pain. His presence was evident to all from the moment we received the diagnosis and it never diminished! His presence, grace and mercy were also evident and constant in her life. She loved fearlessly, gave generously, worshiped quietly but continually, prayed fervently, and believed confidently!
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston with Pastor James Vandagriff and Chaplain Jeremy Schinkle officiating. Brian is also survived by his beloved daughters, Kayla (Christopher) Burris and Alexis Ann (John) Turner; one special granddaughter on the way; siblings, Becky McKown, Michael Speakman, Jane (Michael) Moore, Crystal Speakman Howard, and Kirby Smith; uncles and aunts, Joe (Marsha) Speakman, Herb (Patricia) Speakman, Judy (Frank) Raymond, Sharon (Ronnie) Harper, and Dave Seymour; special nieces and nephews who knew him as “Uncle Bubby,” Amber, Kyle, Kyrie, Jennifer, Landry, and Levi; longtime friend and mother of his children, Betty Speakman; and numerous other special family members and friends whom he cherished.
In addition to his father, Brian was predeceased by his son, Benjamin Schwalbauch; step-father, James Leming; grandmother, Mary Jane Seymour; uncle, Pete Speakman; and aunts, Donna Huston and Sherry Seymour.
Brian was a 1986 graduate of Crooksville High School and attended Muskingum Technical Career Center. He worked for Toxco, Inc. for many years working with industrial batteries. Brian was an avid outdoorsman who thoroughly enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, and dirt track racing. He will be remembered as a devoted family man who made family time a priority and who instilled important life lessons and skills to his daughters and nieces and nephews. One of his most treasured times was taking his girls and nieces and nephews on fishing trips to Canada. He will be deeply missed.

On August 29, 1959, she united in marriage with her loving husband, Lawrence Raymond Large, who preceded her in death on October 24, 2014.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Karen Louise (Scott) Chenault and Janet Lynn (Mark) O’Shaughnessy; grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth (Katy) Beach and Sydney Lynn (Isaiah) Hackney; great-granddaughter, Lainey Louise Beach; sister, Anna Lee Swackhammer; sister-in-law, Susanne Fellenstein; several special in-laws from the Large family; special friend, Brooke Lynn McNeal; and numerous other special family members and friends whom she cherished.
In addition to her parents and husband, Kay was preceded in death by her siblings, Noah Eugene Fellenstein, Garnett Mae Taylor, and Lida Kathryn Meadows; brothers-in-law, Evan Roy Taylor, Leroy L. Swackhammer, and William A. Meadows; and several special in-laws from the Large family.
Kay was a 1959 graduate of Kingston-Union High School and worked for a time at Kingston National Bank. She was a devoted member of Springbank United Methodist Church, a member of the Springbank United Methodist Church Women’s Group and a member of the American Legion Post 291 Ladies Auxiliary of Kingston.
The family would like to sincerely thank Adena Hospice, especially, Carla and Jess, and special caregivers, Angie Kennedy, Delaney Carter Tittle, Beth Carter, and Karen Castle for their dedicated care of Kay during her illness.

Charles worked as a pipeline laborer for CJ Hughes for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to go fishing.

Virginia is survived by her daughters, Colleen “Susie” Miller, of Port Orange, Florida, Carol (John) Martin, of Circleville, Mona (Keith) Karr, of Dayton Beach, Florida, and Valerie (Darryl) Rooker, of Lancaster; grandchildren, John (Katie) Martin, Jr., Dawn (Chris) Arledge, Brian (Cassie) Karr, and Kaleb (Steve) Rooker; great-grandchildren, Nicolas Karr, Lexi Arledge, Gracie Arledge, Zakary Karr, Brooklynn “Rory” Karr, Lily Martin, and Liam Heise; and numerous other special family members and friends whom she cherished.

Shannon is survived by her sons, Christian (Ciera) Campbell, of Muncie, Indiana, Shayne (Carlie) Campbell, and Jordan Campbell, of South Bloomingville; father, Randy (Karen) Knece; mother, Valerie (Roger) Dunetz; fiance, Kevin Qualls; siblings, Leesa Knece, Jessica Knece, and Rudy (Ashley) Schultz; and numerous other special family members and friends whom she cherished.
Shannon was preceded in death by her husband and father of her children, Christopher Campbell.
Shannon was a 1992 graduate of Logan High School and was a saxophone player in the high school band. She went on to work as the librarian for Laurelville Elementary for several years. She enjoyed crafts and was an animal lover, particularly cats. She will be greatly missed.

Joyce was a 1963 graduate of Huntington High School. She loved to travel and especially loved to spend time at the beach. She also enjoyed collecting dolls and was the President of the First Capital Doll Club. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Neal was predeceased by his sister, Shirley (Dave) Holdren; sister-in-law, Patricia Coder; nephews, Scotty Coder and Anthony Stuart; and niece, Carol Holdren.
Neal was a 1969 graduate of Zane Trace High School and he worked at Wear Ever factory of Chillicothe. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Neal also enjoyed sports and was an avid Browns fan.

Willard Eugene Carter, 82, of Kingston, peacefully entered Heaven while surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren on March 13, 2024 at his beloved Maple Bend Farms.  He was born on October 28, 1941, in Kingston, to the late Willard and Golda (Crabtree) Carter.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty June Carter; his children, Pamela Vollmar (John Overly), Bethanie Carter, Angela (Brian) Martin; his grandchildren, Trey (Mariel) Vollmar, Haylee Vollmar (Jevan Stewart), Delaney Tittel, Braeden Martin, Kayden Tittel; his great-grandchildren, Ella Johnson, Bentlee Stewart, and Jax Vollmar; sister, Dorothy Coates; brother-in-law, Roger (Rita) Weaver; and numerous other special family and friends whom he adored.  In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by siblings, Edward, Delores, infant sister, Jewel, and Carol.
Eugene graduated from Centralia High School in 1960.  In his younger years, he served as a volunteer fireman for the Laurelville Fire Department.  In 1991, Eugene joined the Kingston National Bank Board of Directors, at which time he was appointed Chairman.  He retired from the Board of Directors in March of 2013.  He was a member of the Logan Elm Masonic Lodge #624.  In 2005, Eugene received the Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Award in London, Ohio.
His farming career began in 1959 and it was Eugene’s passion. He worked tirelessly to support his family and build his legacy.  Eugene loved giving rides to his grandchildren in the planter and combine, taking them fishing, and the boys hunting.  He and Betty loved taking rides around all the farms, looking at and admiring his crops and all of God’s gifts.  He was a father figure and mentor to countless individuals in the community who depended on him for his wisdom, support, guidance, and love.  Eugene was kind, thoughtful, and generous, and went out of his way to help everyone from neighbors to strangers.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hallsville Community Church (8585 State Route 180, Kingston, OH 45644) with Pastor Greg Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Kingston. The family will receive friends Monday from 3 - 8 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 p.m. Masonic Service. Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, became God’s newest angel on March 13, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She always tried her best to live by God’s plan and after two recent surgeries, her body became too weak and God decided that it was “her time.”
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, JoAnn Waldron, of Londonderry; brother, James Edwin (Janice) McWhorter, of Columbus; daughters, Debra Lynn (Al) Griggs, of Lubbock, Texas, and Lisa Marie (K.T.) He also had compassion for those in need, often providing food and toiletries to the homeless. Betty is also survived by her children, Jerry (Debbie) Hart, of Circleville, Jim (Vickie) Hart, of Laurelville, and Rickey (Carol) Hart, of South Bloomingville; grandchildren, Kate (Andy) Woolever, Beth Kemp, Christy (Eric) Blair, Craig Hart, Lori (Scott) Dickson, Kim (Heath) Fetherolf, Angie Withem, and Belinda Hart; numerous special great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other special family members and friends whom she cherished.
Betty attended Laurelville High School. She had a passion for gardening and nurturing the beautiful roses she grew over her lifetime. Betty was also an avid animal lover and animals always seemed to be drawn to her. Over the years, she had multiple special canine companions and deer would frequently come up into her yard to visit her. She will be deeply missed.

Brenda was truly passionate about her job and loved working with veterans. She was a devoted and selfless wife and mother who will be deeply missed.

Linda was a 1959 graduate of Chillicothe High School and thoroughly enjoyed being the bus driver of Bus 10 for Zane Trace Local Schools for several years. She considered the children on her bus to be her own and she is remembered fondly by those passengers all these years later. Linda was a member of Brookside Church and served as a 4-H advisor for many years. She had a passion for quilting, ceramics, tole painting and bowling. Although, her greatest passion was spending time with her husband and family and traveling with those she loved.

Brown, of Chillicothe; daughter, Sandy (Larry) Endicott, of Kingston; granddaughter, Rachel Mittler, of Kingston; brother, Larry (Joanne) Stevens, of Chillicothe; special cousin, Sue Meeker; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and numerous other special family members and friends whom she cherished.
In addition to her parents and husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Dan R. Brown; granddaughter, Abby Mittler; sisters, Joyce (Carl) Crawford, Kay (Art) Exline, and Sarah Gress; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howard and Freda Brown; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim (Elaine) Brown, Tom (Terry) Brown, and Ralph Brown (Jonnie); and her beloved Westie, Lexi.
Peggy was a 1954 graduate of Southeastern High School. As a devoted homemaker, she adored her family and was a talented cook. Peggy had a passion for and vast knowledge of gardening and plants, which she loved to share with others. She also enjoyed fishing with loved ones and doing puzzles. Later in life, she established herself as a “power seller” on Ebay, specializing in the collection and selling of buttons.
