Roberta J. "Jeannie" Kapp - June 04, 1962 - April 18, 2022

Obituary Preview: Roberta J. “Jeannie” Kapp, 59, of Seneca, went to be with Jesus early Monday morning, April 18, 2022 at her home.
Roberta was born in Franklin on June 4, 1962.  She was the daughter of the late Richard “Dick” and Sarah Ruth Staup Clark.
She was a 1980 graduate of Franklin High School and was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother.  She was a long time active member of the Atlantic Avenue Church in Franklin.  She enjoyed crafting, babysitting and visits with the grandkids, trips to the beach and had cherished spending time with her late husband, Tim.
She was preceded in death by her husband, whom Jeannie missed with all her heart, Timothy A. Kapp on December 6, 2021.  The couple was married in Venus on February 21, 1981.  Also surviving are three children, Ryan A. Kapp and his wife, Karen, of Oil City, Krista Ann Schwab and her husband, Cody, of Venus, and Kara Lynn Hite and her husband, Jim, of Kennerdell; she was affectionately “Grammy” to seven grandchildren whom she adored, Makayla, Alyssa, John, Colton, Clayton, Maria, and KateLynn “Katie”; as well as a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Proper and a brother-in-law.

Russell A. "Russ" McNany - July 24, 1938 - April 11, 2022

Obituary Preview: Russell A. “Russ” McNany, 83, of Emlenton, Allegheny Township, Butler County, passed away Monday morning, April 11, 2022 at The Grove in New Wilmington.
Russell was born in Emlenton on July 24, 1938. He was the son of the late Charles R. and Sara Milford McNany. He attended school in Emlenton, and was a member of the Scrubgrass Stone Church in Emlenton. Russ’s passion was restoring old cars. He was a talented and  highly respected auto body mechanic, and operated R and M Auto body near Emlenton for many years. He also enjoyed farming, especially his longhorns, horses and cows. Russ was a devoted grandpa and great grandpa and was always looked forward to visits from the “kids”.
Russell is survived by his wife, D. Marlene Wetzel McNany, whom he married in Sligo on November 29, 1958. Also surviving is a daughter, Brenda Rankin and her husband, John, of Emlenton; a son, Richard A. “Rick” McNany and his wife Ann, of St. Petersburg; his grandchildren, Jason, Adrienne, Erich, Caleb, Cullen, and Clayton; nine great-grandchildren with two on the way; two brothers, Harold McNany and his wife, Linda, and Paul McNany, and a sister, Shirley Nevel, all of Emlenton,  as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by a brother, Charles McNany, a grandson, a great-grandson; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Scrubgrass Stone Church with church pastor, Dennis Barger, officiating. Interment will be in Scrubgrass Stone Church Cemetery. Guy W. Shoup - July 13, 1928 - April 07, 2022

Obituary Preview: Guy W. Shoup, 93, of Emlenton, Richland Township, Clarion County, a well known, long time, Emlenton and Foxburg business man, passed away late Thursday evening, April 7, 2022 while in the comfort of his home.
Guy was born on Main St. in Emlenton, on July 13, 1928.  He was the son of the late Guy and Harriett Gibb Shoup.  Guy attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in Big Bend and graduated with a degree in Diesel Mechanics from a Vocational School in Struthers, OH.  Guy was a U.S. Army Veteran.  He was a longtime member of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church, a former member of the International Order of Odd Fellows in Emlenton, and was a Boy Scout leader for many years.  For more than sixty years he and his late wife Helen, had owned and operated Venco Trucking and later H.E. Shoup Trucking.  Guy and Helen purchased the business in 1958 from Guy’s father who established the trucking business in Emlenton in 1914.  Guy also owned and operated Shoup Distributing on Main Street in Emlenton for many years.  In July of 2019, while celebrating the trucking company’s 105th year in business, and his 91st birthday, Guy was honored during the Fireman’s Parade at the Emlenton Summer Festival.
Guy was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Eaton Shoup on December 27, 2006. The couple was married in Springdale on July 20, 1946. Guy is survived by a daughter Jayne Shoup and her spouse, Cheryl Burghdurf of Middlesex, VT; Guy's long time devoted companion and caregiver, Nancy Hopper; his “Ohio Cousins” Peggy Pavlov, Phoebe Horvath and her husband John, and Walter Gough and his wife Kathy; his longtime, and his loyal and dedicated employees, Mitzi Fitzgerald, Crystal Wolfgang, and Carl Wolfe, as well many other former and current employees and many friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son Michael E. Shoup.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home, 1204 Kerr Ave. Emlenton, from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday (today) and on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Linda Gerstner, former pastor of Robinson Memorial Chapel, officiating.  Interment will be in Scrubgrass Stone Church Cemetery in Emlenton. Obituary Preview: Barbara E. Carr, 92, of Emlenton, peacefully passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022, surrounded by her family at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield, Ohio.
Barbara was born in Emlenton on November 26, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Leslie and Pearl (Plant) Edinger.
Barbara lived most of her life in Emlenton. She was a 1947 graduate of Emlenton High School and a longstanding member of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church. Barb was a devoted wife, loving mother, and homemaker.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 72 years, Richard L. Carr Sr. Also surviving are their four children, Richard L. Carr Jr. of Butler, Lesley Carr Page (D. Richard), of Delaware, OH, Amy Carr Pollum (Charles), of New Castle, and Emily Carr Pastor (James), of Chardon, OH; her sister, Patricia Russell of Emlenton; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved and enjoyed.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Shelia Carr, and her brother-in-law, Theodore “Ted” Russell, as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Francis A. "Ben" Benton - July 12, 1931 - March 14, 2022

Obituary Preview: Francis A. “Ben” Benton, 90, of Emlenton, entered the presence of his Savior on Monday, March 14, 2022, with his family at his side following a brief illness. Born July 12, 1931, in Altoona, PA, a son of the late Edward and Alice Buige, he grew up in Nanty Glo, PA. Following his graduation from Nanty Glo High School in 1949, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in Korea as a radio operator. After his discharge, he enrolled at Indiana State Teachers College (now IUP), graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1956. He also received a master’s degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. He taught in the Gateway School District, subsequently moving into administration as a principal with the Gateway, Moshannon Valley, and Allegheny-Clarion Valley School Districts, retiring in 1990.
Ben is survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Annette Dudek. He is also survived by his children, Scott (Beth) Benton of Allison Park and Paula (Nevin) Saylor of Indiana; seven grandchildren, Joseph (Lauren) Saylor, Benjamin (Lauren) Saylor, Annabeth (Zachery) Karcher, Stephen (Caitlin) Benton, Andrew (Paige) Benton, Philip Benton, and Faith Benton; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Anthony Buige and James Calhoun, sister-in-law Barbara Buige (widow of his late brother Edward Buige, Jr.), and many nieces and nephews.
Ben was proud of and deeply devoted to his family and took every opportunity to be present for as many games, concerts, and events as possible. He was also a committed man of faith and prayer. He served as the teacher of the adult Sunday School class at New Zion Evangelical Congregational Church for many years, and was still actively teaching until the week before his passing.  His values of family and faith have been fully embraced by the succeeding generations, with his immediate family of 27 gathering last year to honor and celebrate him on his 90th birthday. Ben enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, cooking, and was a passionate life-long learner. He had a gift for connecting with people, and always found something in common with everyone he met.
Family and friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Avenue, Emlenton, PA 16373, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Friday, March 18. The funeral service will be held at the Emlenton United Methodist Church, 1303 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, at 11 am Saturday, March 19, with the Rev. Lewis Bennett, pastor of New Zion E.C. Virginia Joyce Gibson - December 26, 1929 - February 16, 2022

Obituary Preview: Virginia Joyce Gibson, 92, of Oil City, passed away Wednesday evening, February 16, 2022 at Oakwood Heights in Oil City.
Joyce was born in Oil City on December 26, 1929.  She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Burdena Rice Pearson.
She was a 1947 graduate of Oil City High School where she was active in music and drama.  In 1950 she graduated from University Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with a diploma in nursing.  In 1974 she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY.  She later was awarded a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from Villa Maria College, Gannon University.  She was Board Certified in Nursing Administration Advanced.
Joyce was married to Howard E. Gibson on July 26, 1949 in Winchester, Virginia by the Rev. Havermale.  Mr. Gibson passed away on December 13, 2019.
Joyce was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church where she held various positions there and in the ELCA Synod.  She was a board member of the local AHA and Luther Place.  She was a charter member of MuXi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International and remained an active member during her lifetime.  Joyce loved summer vacations and enjoyed beautiful music with family and friends at the Chautauqua Institution.  She loved gardening, especially her flower beds around the house.  She always did special fun things with her family, such as dying Easter eggs with her grandchildren and providing games and crafts for them at family events.  She was an avid walker and enjoyed long walks where ever she lived.
Joyce held a variety of nursing positions over the years.  She held several positions at the former Oil City Hospital from 1950 to 1969, the latest being head nurse of the first ICU in this area.  After moving from Oil City, she became Coordinator, Nursing Administration of Raritan Valley Hospital in Raritan, NJ, Visiting Nurse in Stroudsburg, House Supervisor at Park Avenue Hospital, Rochester, NY, and Assistant Director of Nursing for the three Critical Care Units of Winter Haven Hospital in Florida, where she also was an Instructor-Trainer in BCLS.  She later became House Supervisor at Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas.
Joyce and Howard retired in 1982 and returned to Venango County.  Shortly after, she took the position of Director of Nurses and Assistant Administrator at Venango Manor, from which she retired the second time in 1995.
She survived by seven children, Val Jean Fleeger and her husband, Carl, of Chicora, Kimberly Common of Bolivar, NY, Mark Gibson and his wife, Debbie, of Sodus, NY, William Gibson (Patty) of Oil City, Andrew Gibson and his wife, Dawn, of Lakeland, FL, Jesse Gibson and his wife, Michelle, of Oil City, and Walter Gibson of Oil City; 20 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Joe Tommy Hodgin - August 10, 1944 - January 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: Joe Tommy Hodgin, 77, of Williamsburg, New Mexico went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.
Born on August 10, 1944, Joe was the son of the late Harvey H. and Irene (West) Hodgin.
Joe graduated from Hot Springs High School in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. He served the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era and spent some time in Okinawa, Japan. Joe worked several years at White Sands Missile Range and then worked as a foreman for the Gas Company of New Mexico over 27 years and retired from there. He also worked as a caretaker of the New Mexico Assemblies of God Campgrounds both in Mountainair and Ruidoso. After retirement he drove a school bus for Truth or Consequences Municipal School as a substitute bus driver and activities bus driver.
On July 19, 1966 Joe eloped with the love of his life, Sarah Lee Gates in Juarez, Mexico. When they returned his parents made them get married again “to make sure it was legal” in Belen, New Mexico on July 24, 1966. When they were dating, he tore a two-dollar bill in half and gave one half of it to Sarah Lee. He carried the other half in his wallet and said when they were joined, they would be joined forever. However, Sarah Lee preceded him in death on April 8, 2014. Joe loved to go elk bow hunting, and his prize six-by-six elk hangs proudly in the
La Cocina restaurant in Truth or Consequences, NM. He also loved the mountains in the Gila Forest and was an avid fisherman. He had nine pecan trees in his backyard along the Rio Grande and took great pride in taking care of them. Joe was a man of few words, but he had a lot of wisdom and a great sense of humor. He loved to do woodworking, was a great mechanic, and remodeled many houses. One of his favorite things to do was help build and add onto churches. He drove a church Sunday School bus for many years, and he and Sarah Lee took countless children to church. He served as a church board member many years and took his faith very seriously. Due to health reasons Joe spent the last three years living in Pennsylvania with his daughter Karen Farkas and her family.
Joe is survived by his daughters Karen Farkas and her husband, Timothy, of Emlenton, PA, Amanda Brown and her husband, Monty, of Elephant Butte, NM, and Joye Hodgin of Ft. Worth, TX; his grandchildren Jonathan Nunn of West Palm Beach, FL, David Nunn and his wife, Brianna, of Alamogordo, NM, Victoria Hodgin of Truth or Consequences, NM, Amber Brown of Truth or Consequences, NM, Brooklyne Nunn of Prescott, AZ, Destiny Farkas of Middletown, PA and Daniella Farkas of Emlenton, PA; his great grandchildren Annabelle and Cash Baldwin and Avianna and Felix Brown of Truth or Consequences, NM, and Julsee Nunn of Las Cruces, NM. Also surviving are his siblings Ilene Hodgin and her husband, Charles, of Camp Verde, AZ, Lonnie Hodgin and his wife, Jonnie, of Lampasas, TX and Ralph Hodgin and his wife, Kathy, of Lodi, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Irene Hodgin and his loving wife Sarah Lee Hodgin.

Thomas A. Young - June 20, 1934 - January 18, 2022

Obituary Preview: Thomas A. Young, 87, of Kennerdell, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca with his loving family by his side.
Born on June 20, 1934, Thomas was the son of the late George “Bud” Young and Genevieve Zeby Young Cyphert.
Tom was a 1958 graduate of White Memorial School in Knox.  He worked many years to organize reunions and kept in contact with his classmates.  He was a U.S. Army veteran who voluntarily enlisted.  During his service, he was a MP in New York City.  Following his army discharge, Tom enrolled in college in Clarion for two years and during that time he had been employed at Anderson Hotel in Clarion, The American Legion in Clarion, The Underwood Hotel in Knox, and The Clarion Chevrolet Dealership.
From 1957-1961 Tom went back to work in Knox for Roy Stewart.  He moved to Erie and from 1961-1965 he worked for Thrift Plan Financial as assistant manager and manager. From 1965-1968 he worked at Marine Bank in Erie as manager.  From 1968-1983 he worked for 1st Seneca Bank in Oil City as manager, where he retired from banking.  From 1983-2009 Tom ran Pine Hill Farm where he trained, bred, and raced standard bred horses for harness racing all over the east coast and Canada.  He also ran a tack and feed store at Pine Hill Farm.  From 2009-2011 he was a salesman for Culligan Water Systems  and from 2011-2016 Tom worked for Omega Lumber.
Throughout his life, Tom held memberships in the Oil City Elk Club, The Coudersport Consistory, Masonic Lodge #710, Zem Zem Shrine in Erie, Venango County Shrine Club, Antler Club of Lucinda, Fryburg Sportsman Club, The Rod & Gun Club and American Legion in Knox, PA Harness Racing Association, and the U.S. Trotting Association.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, including many trips to Canada and the stories from the trips, watching sports and keeping up with daily politics.  He enjoyed researching his ancestry and geneology.  Above all, Tom enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are five children, Belinda “Bea” Reed, Kelly (Hal) Priester, Thomas (Felicia) Young, Jody (Bill) Watkins, and Andrea Young; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Jarah) Reed, Nick Reed, Dustin Priester, Lyndsie (Justin) Kriebel, Sarah (Seth) Kuba, Sadie (JR) Mountain, Colton Young, and Adelynn Gee; six step grandchildren, Marc Priester, Bill (Sheena) Priester, Jake (Holly) Wilson, Johnathan (Amy) Watkins, Alexis Watkins, Jesse Watkins; four great grandchildren, Cambrie Priester, Hal Thomas Priester, Brooks Reed, and Logan Kuba; seven step great grandchildren, Marcus Priester, Jillian Priester, Valerie Priester, Jossie Wilson, Sierra Watkins, Madison Watkins, and Kaden Watkins; two half sisters, Joni (Tim) Rudolph and Georgia (Don) Crawford; a special life long friend, Sanford Powell, as well as  a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Max Young and James Young, and a son-in-law, Donald “Flub” Reed.

Dennis P. Sloan - June 18, 1967 - January 14, 2022

Obituary Preview: Dennis P. Sloan, 54, of Kittanning Pike, Parker, Allegheny Twp., Butler Co., a well-known senior member of the Emlenton Fire Dept., passed away Friday evening, January 14, 2022 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Dennis was born in Grove City on June 18, 1967.  He was the son of the late Durland E. “Pat” and Doris Zurcher Sloan.
Dennis was a 1985 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School in Foxburg and the New Castle School of Trades.  He was a member of the Emlenton United Methodist Church.  In his earlier years, Dennis had been employed by Quaker State Oil Refining Corp. in Emlenton,  Preston Painting in Foxburg, and Industrial Colloids/Fuch’s Lubricants in Emlenton.  Dennis had most recently been employed with Allied Security at INDSPEC in Petrolia.
Dennis enjoyed hunting, riding his four wheeler, model trains, the company of his family, most especially his granddaughter, Greysen.  He was a member of the Emlenton Fire Dept. for nearly four decades, having joined the fire department while in high school.  He was a long time EMT and member of the department’s quick response service, a scuba diver, senior firefighter, captain, and safety officer.  Dennis had served many years on the department’s board of directors and had served more than 20 years as the department’s treasurer.  He enjoyed working as the cashier and visiting with local residents at the firemen’s food booth at the annual summer festival.  He was part of a group of Emlenton firefighters that visited and formed a strong bond with FDNY Engine Company 55 in New York City in the months and years following 9/11.  Dennis was currently serving as a board member and secretary of the Emlenton Area Ambulance Service.
Surviving are three children, Patrick E. Sloan (Michael Jones) of Seneca, Sean A. Sloan of Pittsburgh, and Jensen R. Sloan of Emlenton; his granddaughter, Greysen Sloan; two brothers, Gregory A. Sloan and his companion, Carol Rossman, of Parker and Gary R. Sloan of Warren, OH, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in a death by his nephew, Brian E. Sloan.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from  1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.  The Emlenton Fire Dept. will conduct a memorial service with the Emlenton Area Ambulance Service and other area fire departments participating at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  A funeral service with fire department honors and a final call will be held from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Steven Harrell, pastor of the Emlenton United Methodist Church and the Rev. Timothy Farkas, Fire Dept. Chaplain, and the Rev. Robert G. Hile Jr., officiating.  Emlenton Fire Deptment’s 1949 American LaFrance will transport Officer Sloan to the Eau Claire Cemetery for interment beside his parents.  Memorial contributions in Dennis’ memory may be made to the Emlenton Volunteer Fire Dept, PO Box 371, Emlenton, PA 16373 or the Emlenton Area Ambulance Service, PO Box 346, Emlenton, PA 16373.  Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.

Homer Dean Merwin - February 15, 1932 - January 12, 2022

Obituary Preview: Homer Dean Merwin, 89, of Terwilliger Rd., Parker, Perryville, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 12, 2022 at Shippenville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Homer was born in Akron, OH on February 15, 1932.  He was the son of the late Richard and Lida Lepley Merwin.  He was a 1950 graduate of Parker High School.  He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War and retired from Glass Containers in Parker.  Homer enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and being out in the woods.  He was an avid Penguin and Steeler fan.  Homer most especially enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Marshall Merwin, whom he married in Parker on June 16, 1956.  Mrs. Merwin passed away on October 27, 1991.
Homer is survived by three children, Fred Knappenberger and his wife, Chantel of Saxonburg, Diane Whitehill and her husband, Dave of Emlenton, and Richard Merwin of Parker; six grandchildren, Timothy Knappenberger and his wife, Lisa of Sarver, Danielle Ball and her husband, Darren of Mars, Stacey Fox and her husband, Raymond, Lida Jenkins and her husband, Bill, Richard Merwin Jr. and his wife, Crystal, and Randy Merwin, all of Emlenton; thirteen great-grandchildren, Chloe, Lucy, Celia, Allie, Elizabeth, Gabby, Katie, Emma, Aidan, Evann, Maverick, Kaylie, and Tanner; three sisters-in-law, Gloria Merwin, Nancy Marshall and Judy Shoup and her husband Ronald, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, Homer was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and John Merwin; a sister, Wilda Steele, and a great granddaughter, Rose.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home, Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton from 5-8 p.m. Thursday  and from Noon to 1:00 p.m. on Friday.  A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Obituary Preview: John S. Walter, 69, of Emlenton, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Saturday evening, January 8, 2022 at his residence.
John was born in Sharon on January 25, 1952. He was the son of the late Harvey E. “Fred” and Emma E. “Betty” Scott Walter.
He was a 1969 graduate of Allegheny Clarion Valley High School, and had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. John was employed for many years as a construction laborer, and had worked out of the local 66th operator’s union. John enjoyed watching TV, hunting, playing solitaire, the company of his cat, “Pud”, and was a well-known classic car enthusiast, having owned several classic cars.
He is survived by his wife, Eugenia “Genia” Guzylak Walter, whom he married in Ambridge on October 10, 1987; a daughter, Elizabeth K. Sawyer, and her husband, Nathan, of St. Petersburg; a son, Matthew Evans, of Knox, and a granddaughter, Madison; three brothers, Larry Walter, of Greenville, Fred Walter, of Phillipsburg, and Richard “Dick” Walter, of Emlenton; five sisters, Carol O’Neil of Emlenton, Linda Tulip of Durham, NC, Deborah Confer, of Franklin, Tina Dunkle of Emlenton, and Vinnie O’Connor of Sharon; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Austin.

Obituary Preview: Dana L. Myers, 64, of Knox, passed away on January 8, 2022 after a 14 year battle with Lymphoma.
Dana was born in Harpswell, ME on April 25, 1957 to Charles and Beverly Baker Bibber.  She attended Brunswick High School and Clarion University pursuant of a Geoscience degree.
In 1974 she met her husband of 43 years, Leonard, while he was stationed in Brunswick, ME.  They went on to have two children, Leonard  Myers of Mechanicsburg and Jayme Louise of Parker, both of whom she loved dearly.
Dana was a knowledgeable horse breeder and she spent many years doing what she loved at Windspirits Farm, which she owned and operated with her husband.
She enjoyed horseback riding, knitting, crocheting, gardening and canning as well as attending her grandchildren’s extracurricular activities.  A snowbird, she enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV to their winter home in Crystal River, FL.  Dana was willing to do whatever she could to help find a cure for others battling cancer like her.  In doing this, she made a supportive network of friends around the world.
In addition to her husband, Leonard, Dana is survived by her two children and their spouses, Jayme and Brady Louise of Parker and Leonard and Jill Myers of Mechanicsburg; her beloved grandchildren, Gianna, Brennan and Collin; a brother, John Bibber; two sisters in Maine, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Butch Bibber.

Obituary Preview: Timothy A. “Tim” Kapp, 60, of Seneca, went to be with Jesus Monday, December 6, 2021 at Meadville Medical Center.
Timothy was born in King of Prussia on May 26, 1961.  He was the son of the late Edward L. and Barbara Ann Clark Kapp.
He was a 1979 graduate of North Clarion High School and was a United States Navy veteran.  He enjoyed hunting, music, most especially playing his guitar in the church band. His family and grandkids were the light of his life.  Mr. Kapp was a devoted Christian and enjoyed spreading the good news of the Gospel.  His friendly personality would always light up the room, as he could be found conversing with many in an effort to make their day better.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Jeannie, whom he married in Venus on February 21, 1981.  Also surviving are three children, Ryan A. Kapp and his wife, Karen, of Oil City, Krista Ann Schwab and her husband, Cody, of Venus, and Kara Lynn Hite and her husband, Jim, of Kennerdell; seven grandchildren, Makayla, Alyssa, John, Colton, Clayton, Maria, and KateLynn “Katie”; two brothers, Stanley E. Kapp and his wife, Mary, of Pace, FL and Daniel L. Kapp and his wife, Joy, of Derrick City; a sister, Beth Ann Hazlett and her husband, Wayne, of Oil City, a sister-in-law, Tangy Kapp of Seneca , as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and many friends.

Obituary Preview: Eric “Red” Chambers, 74, of Waco, Texas formerly of Emlenton, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021.
Eric was born on May 6, 1947.  He was the son of the late William and Vivian McGinnis Chambers.
Red joined the United States Air Force right out of high school and was immediately deployed to Vietnam, where he was stationed in Thailand. He served our country proudly during his 25 years of military service. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1991, but his allegiance to our country did not end. He honored the United States flag and taught us to do the same. The National Anthem would bring tears of pride to his eyes, just knowing just what it meant to serve.
For the next 21 years he worked in Waco, Texas, at an aircraft restoration company, where he finally retired.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Peggy Shearer Chambers; two daughters, Shawntell Parrish and her husband, Scott, of Hewitt, Texas, and Nichole Chambers of Waco, Texas. He is also survived by 2 grandsons whom he loved more than life itself, Eric Rodriguez and his wife, Elizabeth, and Tony Rodriguez (who could get his Papa to tell him things that he would tell no others), both of Waco. He also has 2 great grandsons who were his pride and joy, Gavin and Grayson Rodriguez.
Survivors also include 3 brothers, Rick Chambers and his wife, Diane, David Chambers, and Kenny Chambers; two sisters, Kathy Ritchey and her husband, Harry, and Faye Michael, all of Pennsylvania.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were his grandparents, Wilbur and Rosetta Chambers, Elgin and Helen McGinnis, five brothers, Jerry, Kevin, Ernie, Chuck and Mike Chambers, and one who became like a brother, and left too soon, John Michael.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 1 – 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 23.  A service of committal with military honors accorded by the V.E.T.S. Mabel Sherman - April 28, 1935 - November 12, 2021

Obituary Preview: Mabel Sherman, 86, formerly of Emlenton, Polk, and Seneca, died Friday, November 12, 2021 at The Laurels in Worthington, Ohio. Mabel moved to Ohio in December 2020 to be closer to her son after the death of her fourth husband, Marshall Sherman.
Mabel was born in Emlenton on April 28, 1935.   She was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Troy Rector.
She was a 1954 graduate of Emlenton High School.  Before moving to Ohio, Mabel was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Oil City sharing her beautiful singing voice as a dedicated member of the choir. She also shared her beautiful voice as a member of the Venango choir and as a staple for years in Emlenton’s variety show, Showboat. Some of Mabel’s most memorable moments were her roles as Minnie Pearl, Judy Garland and Edith Bunker. Mabel continued sharing her passion for singing until the end of her life, often singing to the nurses and doctors that cared for her. During her short time in Ohio, Mabel made many friends, becoming a parishioner at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Westerville and visiting Sugar Grove Senior Community Center where she enjoyed putting together puzzles and sitting around talking to her new friends. Mabel will be remembered for her avid love of music, learning to play the organ in her adult years, singing, Wordfinder books, shopping, and recounting favorite trips and stories to friends and family.
She is survived by her only son, Robert Hallman and his wife, Louise, of Lewis Center, OH; three grandchildren, Renee’ Hallman-Traverso and her husband, Nick, Jordan Hallman and her fiancé, Nick, and Michael Hallman, all of Ohio; two nieces, Kathleen Whitmer and her husband, Doug, and Shirley Page and her husband, Charles, of Erie, and one nephew, Bill Bosley of Emlenton.
In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Alice Rector and Kathleen Bosley, and her husbands, Clair Hallman, Steve Dudash, Raymond Beers, and Marshall Sherman.

Obituary Preview: Anthony P. “Tony” Marterella, 56, of Gaithersburg, MD, formerly of Emlenton, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Springs, MD.
Anthony was born in Grove City on September 24, 1965.  He was the son of Mildred C. Campbell Marterella of Emlenton and the late John R. Marterella.
He was a 1983 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School in Foxburg.  He graduated in 1988 with a B.S. in economics from Grove City College.  In his earlier years, Tony had attended St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Emlenton.  Tony was employed for nearly 30 years as a sales representative for commercial and electrical supplies and equipment at DDK Sales in Gaithersburg, MD.  Tony was an avid music lover. Country music was his passion and Tony loved to sing.  He was a “fix it” kind of guy, always willing to help family, friends, and co-workers at a moment’s notice.  Tony had been known to stop along the highway to help a stranger in distress, assessing the car problem, taking the driver to a nearby auto parts store, returning and fixing the vehicle.  For many years Tony made countless trips to Pennsylvania and Ohio to help his family with many home projects.  His mother and brothers were extremely important to him, and he never wanted to miss a birthday, holiday celebration, or family gathering.  He was affectionately “Uncle Tony” to his nieces and nephews, whom he dearly loved.  Tony had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.
In addition to his mother, Tony is survived by three brothers, James R. “Jim” Marterella of Harbor Creek, Mark C. Marterella and his wife, Pamela, of Franklin, and John R. “J.J.” Marterella Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of West Olive, MI; his nieces and nephews, Nathan, Conor, Grace, and Vivian; his uncles and aunts, Donald and Karen Marterella of Grove City, Carol Marterella of Hilliards, Eleda and “Buzz” Swank of Butler, David and Jane Campbell of Sandy Lake, and Lynn “Herby” Campbell of Chicora, as well as a number of cousins, many friends, and co-workers.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, and an uncle, Carmen Marterella.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Avenue, Emlenton from 1 - 3 and 6 - 8 p.m. Friday.  A service outside of mass will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home with the Rev. Martha Ann Berry - December 05, 1945 - September 13, 2021

Obituary Preview: Martha Ann Berry, 75, of Emlenton, formerly of Emporium, passed away Monday afternoon, September 13, 2021 in the comfort of her home while in the company of her family.
Martha was born in Hammondsport, New York on December 5, 1945.  She was the daughter of the late Max and Felicia Viselli Patterson.  Martha was of the Catholic faith.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, traveling with her husband in their R.V. and most especially the company of her Chihuahuas.  Martha and her husband John purchased the Gaslight Campground in Emlenton in 2004 and operated the campground until 2013 when they sold it to their son Mike.  Martha was very patriotic and enjoyed visiting with the campers as well as the annual campground car show.
Martha was married on March 2, 1962 in Emporium to John L. Berry, Jr.  Mr. Berry preceded her in death on June 1, 2019.
She is survived by three children, Jacqueline A. “Jackie” Smith and her husband Tim of Millerton, Gregory A. Berry and his wife Sophia of Emporium, and Michael J. Berry of Emlenton; her grandchildren, Nick, Cody, Miranda, Nicole, Chad, Heather, B.J., Heath, Macie, Makenna, Justin, and Scott; nine great grandchildren; four brothers: Dean and Gene Patterson and Emery and Tom Cummings; a sister, Debbie Cummings, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean and Sandy, and a brother, Max.
A graveside service officiated by the Rev. Jean was born in Dutch Hill, Clarion County on April 11, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Bernard and Tressa Murray Kriebel.
Jean was a graduate of Sligo High school. She was of the Presbyterian faith. She enjoyed the company of her great granddaughter’s dog, “Buddy”, reading and most especially the company of her grandkids and great grandkids. In her earlier years Jean was employed at the Level works in Parker, the Pine Grove Market and at the Old Mill Restaurant in Emlenton.
Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, John H. Rankin, whom she married on October 30, 1954. Mr. Rankin passed away on January 5, 1985. She later married M.D. “Buster” Lindsey. Mr. Lindsey preceded her in death on December 27, 2008.
Jean is survived by a son, Douglas John Rankin and his wife, Brenda, of Emlenton, and a daughter, Karen D. Alworth and her husband, Rodney, of Parker; six grandchildren, Jason Rankin and his wife, Amy, of Oil City, Adrienne Chalmers and her husband, Mark, of Emlenton, Erich Rankin and his wife, Lori, of Butler, Jennifer Hawk and her husband, Larry, of Parker, Jacque McBride and her husband Chuck, of Emlenton, Jason Alworth and his wife, Amber, of Parker; fourteen great grandchildren, Connor, Morgan, Gabe, Ian, Adam, Drew, Faith, Samantha, Delilah, Nick, Keegan, Lexan, Maya, and Aubrie; a brother, Joseph Kriebel of Clarion; two sisters, Helen Nunamaker and her husband, Richard, of Cochranton and Carol Ireland and her husband, Larry, of Rimersburg, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

Robert D. "Rob" Heal Jr. - January 18, 1958 - August 21, 2021

Obituary Preview: Robert D. “Rob” Heal Jr., 63, of Hill Street, Emlenton, PA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 21, 2021 after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Rob was born on January 18, 1958 in Wilmington, Delaware.  He was the son of Helen Chandlee Heal Dionne of Buckhannon, WV and the late Robert D. Heal, Sr., who had resided in Wilmington, Delaware.  Rob attended Buckhannon-Upshur High School.  In 2007 he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology from Slippery Rock University. After graduating he served as a Strength Coach for the football team.  In addition, he was a journeyman mason for many years.   Rob was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and had earned a GED while serving.
He is survived by his wife, Monica Collingwood Armstrong Heal, whom he married at Whitehall Campground in Emlenton with Monica’s father, The Rev. Marlin Collingwood, officiating. He is also survived by two step-sons, Jesse Lee Armstrong of Emlenton and Clinton B. Armstrong and his wife, Jaime, of Slippery Rock; in addition to his mother, Helen, he is survived by his stepfather, Jerry Dionne; his sisters, Denise Hardman and her husband, Randy, Christin Williams and her husband, Steve; his sister-in-law, Deborah Collingwood Southworth and brother-in-law, Marlin Collingwood.  Rob loved his beloved grandchildren, Jacob, Alexis, Conrad, Cole, Coen & Carley who spent precious time with him during the last weeks of his life.   He also loved to spend time with his numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Rob was a very active member of the Trinity Point Church of God in Clarion, PA where he was an usher, a member of the Men’s Bible Study Group and The Adult Sunday School Class.  Rob loved traveling with Monica each year to Ocean City, MD, the great outdoors, guns, sports, weight training and physical fitness.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. Marlin and M. Joyce McCoy Collingwood.

He had been employed for more than 35 years and retired as the head receiver at Kaufman’s in Pittsburgh.  He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Emlenton.  Bob was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed golfing, camping, hunting, fishing, and taking walks.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine F. Shoop Roithner, whom he married in Coraopolis on September 14, 1962.  Also surviving are three daughters, Sue E. Johnson and her husband, Gary, of Chicora, Lisa A. Fonner and her husband, John, of Emlenton, and Diane L. Flick and her husband, Brian, of Mercer; six grandchildren, Laurel and her husband, Tyler, Angell and her husband, Josh, Ashlee, Abigail, Hunter, and Deven; two great grandchildren, Annie and Sequoia; three brothers and their families, James, Earl, and Daniel Roithner, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and friends.

Jamie was born in Butler on August 14, 1981.  He was the son of Linda Sollinger of Emlenton.
He was a graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School in Foxburg.  He graduated from Edinboro University with a degree in accounting.
He enjoyed music, crochet, conversing with his many friends online, and spending time with the loves of his life, his dogs, “Chanel and Lola”.  Jamie had been employed earlier at Disney World in Florida.
Jamie persevered through many physical challenges throughout his life, especially driving.  He had taken care of his grandmother and drove her to many appointments.
In addition to his mother, Jamie is survived by three uncles, Bill, Rick, and Jeff Sollinger, and lifelong friend, Amanda Parks, as well as many other friends.
Jamie was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rodney and Blanche Goodman Sollinger.

Obituary Preview: Louise M. Blymiller McNany, 76, of Crawford Corners Road, Emlenton, Scrubgrass Twp., Venango Co., passed away late Thursday evening, July 15, 2021 at Butler Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Louise was born in Parker on September 9, 1944.  She was the daughter of the late Bernard and Dorothy Stewart Blymiller.
She was a 1962 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School in Foxburg.  Louise was a homemaker and a talented florist.  She had been employed by various local flower shops in the area.  She was a member of the Parker United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed crafting and was an avid football fan.  Louise especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband, Paul E. McNany, whom she married in Parker on February 16, 1963.  Also surviving are three sons, Gregory K. McNany and his wife, Laurie, of Emlenton, Bradley P. McNany and his wife, Lindsay, of Parker, and Christopher M. McNany and his wife, Lacey, of Emlenton; a daughter-in-law, Lynna McNany of Barkeyville; twelve grandchildren, Kenton, Ashton, Amanda, Matthew, Ty, Kasey, Adeley, Keagan, Bradley, Lauren, Cami and Kaiden; eight great grandchildren, Hayden, Brant, Jessa, Conor, Emerson, Sara, McKenna and Oakleigh; three sisters, Sandi DeLair, Maxine Milford, and Renie Witherup, all of Parker, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Douglas McNany, who died on March 1, 2020, as well as a number of brothers-in-law, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Sara Milford McNany.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Sunday.  A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Obituary Preview: Gertrude I. Eskew, 80, of Knox, formerly of Emlenton, went to be with the Lord Monday evening, May 24, 2021 at Autumn Grove in Harrisville.
Gertrude was born in Pittsburgh on September 26, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Clyde and Mabel Conklin McDade.
She attended school in Emlenton and later earned her GED. Gertrude was of the Protestant faith, and enjoyed watching WWE wrestling and Star Wars, especially her favorite character, R2-D2. She was an avid Pirates fan, and also enjoyed collecting American Indian dolls, as well as watching cardinals and deer. In her earlier years, she enjoyed hunting and fishing. She had been employed at Rumbaugh’s Restaurant in Emlenton, private caregiving, and most recently at the former Emlenton’s Laurel Manor.
Gertrude is survived by her son, Kenneth B. Geiser and his wife, Donna, of Shippenville; four grandchildren, Jenny Nichols (Travis), of Altoona, Chelsi Wensel of New York, Linda Spisak (Dillan) of Butler, and Isaiah Nichols of Shippenville; three great-grandchildren, Angel, Henry, and Ira, as well as a number of cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Geiser, and Richard Eskew; a son, Charles “Chuck” Geiser; and her brother, Kenneth McDade.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Avenue, Emlenton, from Noon - 2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Thursday. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Paula Gruzca, a United Methodist pastor, officiating.
