Obituary Preview: George Edward DeViney, loving and hardworking husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 16, 2020. He was born December 18, 1928, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to Myrtle Alice and Paul David DeViney. George, known to everyone as “Buddy,” adored growing up in Pine Bluff with his grandparents, and in particular his grandfather who was a conductor for the Cotton Belt Railway. Buddy joined the Navy in 1947 and honorably served four years on the USS Stickell as a Gunner’s Mate Third Class sailor. He received honors such as the Korean Service Medal with one star, the China Service Medal, and a Navy Occupation Service Medal. Buddy loved to recount all of his experiences aboard the ship and throughout his service. After his service, Buddy worked for Memphis Light, Gas and Water until he retired in 1979 with 27 years, 4 months and 3 days of service. He taught his children how to play corkball, coached his sons in baseball, and taught his daughter to keep score. Buddy loved beginning his day with that first cup of coffee in the morning, which his children now love, too. He loved to come home from a long day of work and sit with a dachshund on his lap as he watched Sanford and Sons or Hee Haw. He was a lover of all animals, but especially his dachshunds. He would even take his young family of five on vacations to Florida in a two-door Gran Torino, with a dachshund and water bowl on the floor of the car. Buddy could always make you laugh, and you always knew you could count on him. Buddy is preceded in death by his parents and beloved sister Betty Butts, as well as granddaughter Ashley Nichols and grandson Josh DeViney. He leaves behind his adoring family: Wife Jerre DeViney, children Carolyn Hicks (Bob), Georgie DeViney (Tonya), and David DeViney (Dana); grandchildren Ellie Campbell (Scott), Sophie DeViney, Tess DeViney, Lexie Johnston (Ryan), Claire Tipps (Peter), and Madison DeViney; as well as many great grandchildren, and even great-great grandchildren. Buddy loved God and could be found reading his Bible every night before bed. He had a beautiful voice and could often be heard whistling one of his favorite hymns, “I’ll Fly Away”. Buddy would want his family and friends to know his favorite saying that “he’s glad you got to see him; let him know if there’s anything you can do for him.”

Departed: 06/06/2020 (Memphis)
Obituary Preview: Rev. Edward W. Walton Jr., ( age 80) died on June 6th, 2020 after a long illness. He served several United Methodist churches in Georgia and Tennessee after graduating from Emory University. He was a man of many interests. He enjoyed photography and the outdoors, especially if it included camping, and was a man that truly enjoyed traveling and lived life to the fullest. He took great delight in pulling pranks and jokes on people, including writing his own obituary attached with a cartoon that stated “A sweet, wonderful man died yesterday, and no one knows how the world can survive without him”. Many stories have been told over the years of his many pranks and escapades.
He leaves behind his wife Marilyn of 55 years, his daughter Cathy Dent of Henderson, TN, his son Philip Walton of Memphis, TN and his two grandsons, Hunter and Christopher Walton, of Franklin, TN. Ed also leaves behind his sister Carole Wenzler of Olive Branch, MS, several nieces and nephews and his beloved German Shepard Brynna and Curtis.
Rather than a burial, his wish was to be cremated and have his ashes spread at several locations that meant so much to him, including a family cemetery in Mississippi, and the river in Arkansas where he loved to camp and trout fish. A private family service will be held on July 11th, 2020.
His final wish was that any memorials be sent to the Bubba Stevenson Foundation at 2335 Pennington Bend Rd, Nashville, TN 37214.

Alyce Diane Miles - June 19, 1975 - June 01, 2020

Departed: 06/01/2020 (Memphis)
Obituary Preview: Alyce passed away on June 1, 2020. She was born in Denver CO, and spent much of her childhood in Scottsbluff, NE. Her mother and her siblings moved to Independence, MO, where she was graduated from Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, MO.
After the death of her mother, she came to live with her father and step-mother in New Orleans, Louisiana. She attended and was graduated from the University of New Orleans and then attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis TN where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree. In addition, she had special training for low vision patients who had complex problems.
Alyce was nearsighted, and at age 12 with her first pair of glasses, announced sternly to the family that she was going to be an Optometrist. She never wavered from that goal.
She practiced optometry in Memphis, then moved to Macon GA to have her own practice. There she forged many close relationships and lasting bonds. Six years later, she moved back to Memphis with her husband, where she practiced optometry for several years.
Alyce was a very determined woman. She was fiercely independent; she knew where she was going and what she was going to do. Alyce was also a private person who felt things greatly, but rarely showed it. Being very intelligent, she researched things in which she was interested thoroughly. She had a kind heart and was helpful to all who had needs. She lived for optometry and was always a caring advocate to her patients who often became her friends.
Having her son Jackson was the high point in her and Tom’s lives and she treasured her son. She was a loving mother to him always. For the past two years she had the privilege of homeschooling him and teaching him every day about the Lord.
Alyce loved the ocean and the seascape of the Florida coast, where she and her family spent time on vacation. She loved to go snorkeling and find beautiful shells. The family had a small sailboat and she told many of the wonderful times they had on the water down there. Survivors include her husband Thomas Clark (Germantown TN), son Jackson Clark (Germantown TN), father and step-mother Vincent Miles and Sandra Miles (Kingman AZ), Step-father Jeff Matson (Valley City ND), sister Laura Marie Miles (Salt Lake City UT), brother Theron James Miles (Litchville ND)
There will be a private service at graveside in Elmwood Cemetery. Announcement for a Memorial will be given at a later time. The family would request in lieu of flowers consider a donation to either: • Lions clubs. https://lionsclubs.org/en/donate • Neve Michael Childrens Home https://nevemichael.com/general-donation/
These were two charities that were near to Alyce’s heart. XL Into my heart an air that kills, From yon far country blows; What are those blue remembered hills, What spires, what farms are those? That is the land of lost content, I see it shining plain, The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again. A Shropshire Lad A. E. Houseman-1887
