Robert Edward Francis - October 11, 1954 - April 23, 2022

Departed: 04/23/2022 (Westfield)
Obituary Preview: Robert “Bob” Edward Francis Lifelong Educator, Coach, and Family Man
Bob Francis passed away on April 23, 2022 in Morristown Medical Center, NJ.  Bob, the middle of three children, was born on October 11, 1954 in Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ, to John and Louise (née Tuite) Francis.  Bob was raised in Union, NJ where he was most likely found on the baseball and soccer fields, or basketball and tennis courts.  He was proud to share the memories of these athletic accomplishments with his own three children, especially about his time playing on a semi-pro soccer team.  Bob graduated Union High School in 1972 and following an accident, which put his soccer career on a brief hold, he graduated Kean University in 1977, having made his mark in their soccer arena and as a member of the Nu Delta Pi fraternity.
Upon college graduation, Bob briefly taught in the Manville Public School System and Marist High School. Bob then began his decade of teaching at St. Joseph’s High School in Metuchen, NJ. which he truly enjoyed.  In 1990, Bob began teaching at Clifford Scott High School in East Orange (where Bob’s children fondly remember him taking them during spring breaks while he coached track and they roller bladed in the school’s empty hallways).  When Clifford Scott closed and East Orange Campus High School opened, Bob continued to work alongside his beloved colleagues, which were viewed as family, as he positively influenced the student community, both in the classroom and while coaching soccer, track, and tennis until his retirement in June of 2021.  Throughout Bob’s decades of coaching, he not only touched the lives of high school student athletes in East Orange, but also at St. Joseph’s (lacrosse), Arthur L. Johnson in Clark, NJ (soccer), Solomon Schecter in West Orange, NJ (tennis), and Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ (tennis).
In April of 1981, Bob met the love of his life, Anne Marie (née Williamson), they married in August of 1983, and lived in Rahway, NJ until moving to Cranford, NJ in 1988, where they lovingly raised their three children, Megan Ashley, Kaley Jane, and Jeffrey Robert.  Always working hard for his family, Bob humbly juggled multiple jobs at the same time so that Anne Marie could stay home to support their children (as Bob knew this was Anne Marie’s most cherished job). Bob especially enjoyed becoming an instructor for the Don-Tre Driving School family, which he continued into retirement.  Bob’s hard work allowed for his family to be able to follow their hopes, dreams, and passions.  After all, his greatest source of pride was his children and their accomplishments, including Megan’s baby on the way, Kaley’s upcoming fall wedding, and Jeff’s completion of his MBA in the late spring.  As a devoted husband and father, he loved spending his free time with his family, which included attending all of his children’s athletic events, traveling together, and eating dinner together.  Bob was a member of the Central Jersey Road Runners Club, and very much enjoyed running in the Cranford Firecracker 4 Miler and Millburn Presidents Cup road races for years. He was involved in the Cranford Jaycees, and was a parishioner of The Parish Community of Saint Helen in Westfield, NJ since 1981.
A few of Bob’s small pleasures in life included: reading the daily Star Ledger with his coffee, Snoopy’s dance moves, a great burger, local draft beer, The Honeymooners, Gunsmoke, endlessly watching Home Alone at Christmas time, singing Christmas songs off key year round, his Adidas slides, his Clifford Scott Varsity Jacket, and providing oddly specific, yet transient, driving directions.
Bob will be sorely missed and joyfully remembered by all who knew him and loved always by his surviving family members which include his wife, Anne Marie Francis, children, Megan Curto and husband, Alex Curto, Kaley Francis and fiancée, Kevin Milella, and Jeffrey Francis; his adored older brother, John Francis and loving younger sister, Maureen Francis Adkins; brother-in-law, Bobby Williamson and wife Marlene; sister-in-law, Sally Salvatoriello and husband Rich; sister-in-law, Kathy Mayberry and husband Jack; and brother-in-law, Jerry Williamson and wife Leigh; as well as his favorite 15 nieces and nephews and 6 great nieces and nephews.
To honor Bob’s memory, please enjoy a family dinner together and hug a loved one.

Departed: 02/18/2022 (Westfield)
Obituary Preview: Helen O’Keefe (née Murphy) passed away suddenly at age 82 on February 18, 2022, following a brief illness. Her two children Maura and Neil were able to visit with her to say goodbye. Helen is reunited in heaven with her dear husband Cornelius (Con).
Helen grew up in Morningside Heights in Manhattan. She met Con, got married in 1964, and in 1968 moved to Bellmore, Long Island, where they raised their two children. Dr. Gaetano G. Spinnato - Unknown - February 14, 2022

Departed: 02/14/2022 (Westfield)
Obituary Preview: This Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 2022, beloved father, grandfather, father-in-law, friend, doctor and teacher, Dr. Gaetano G. Spinnato, 83, took his last breath after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He leaves behind his daughter Gabriella Hamilton, her husband Mark Hamilton and their sons William and Luke, his daughter Elisabeth Spinnato, her husband Amos Bigler, and their soon-to-be daughter, his devoted dog Plato, and countless family members and friends. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Vincent Spinnato and Elizabeth Spinnato (nee: Orlando), his cherished sister Maria Mangold (nee: Spinnato), and his brother-in-law, Terry Wayne Mangold.
It is impossible to encapsulate the man our father was in so few words; he was joyful, loving, kind, brilliant, selfless, generous, gracious, hilarious, hard-working, honorable, loyal, strong, stubborn, brazen and challenging. He loved long dinners with loud laughter, singing to Frank Sinatra, dancing as much as possible and running. He would never pass on a glass of Strega, the opportunity to tell a joke or the chance to challenge someone to a push-up contest. He taught us to always help the less fortunate, to put our children first, to love unconditionally and without regard, to never lose childlike wonder and curiosity, and to never give up. Our father was a man of his own rules – and he lived and died by them. To know our father, was truly to love him.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey on November 26, 1938, it was his parents’ hard work and sacrifices that helped define the man he would become. He started working in grammar school and worked until he no longer could. He delivered newspapers, set pins in a bowling alley, sold Bibles door-to-door, worked on building construction, shipyard construction, made pizza, drove and loaded trucks, bounced at bars, worked as a lab tech in the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital, as a social worker for Hudson County Welfare Services, as a general dentist in both New York City and New Jersey, as an Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon serving Bayonne, Hoboken and Jersey City, and as a clinical Professor at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He remained a full-time clinical professor of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at Rutgers until his passing.
He was a graduate of Snyder High School, and St. Peter’s College, and completed six months of active duty and six- and one-half years of the Army Reserves. He received an acceptance to the University of Bologna Medical School in Italy but decided instead to attend Seton Hall College of Medicine and Dentistry (which would become the College of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey), followed by the completion of an internship in Oral Surgery at Metropolitan Hospital Center in New York City. In 2003, he received a medical degree from The University of Health Sciences in Antigua. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, a Fellow in the American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, and a Fellow in the International College of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. He also held several positions in the New Jersey Society of Oral Surgeons, including President. In his spare time, he painted, sculpted, ran marathons, hosted parties and spent as much time with his family and friends as possible.
Our lives will never be the same without him, but we will raise our glasses to him each night. We take comfort in knowing he is at peace and are eternally grateful to his doctors, nurses and nursing assistants at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Morristown Medical Center, who allowed him to live his final days on his terms, fighting until his last breath, with dignity and grace.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 21st from 4pm to 8pm at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield, New Jersey. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Tuesday, February 22nd, with a mass beginning at 10am at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Hoboken. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. We ask that in lieu of flowers, you please donate in his honor to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. http://giftfunds.stjude.org/Gaetano_Spinnato
