Geneva passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022.
Geneva Thompson was born on March 4, 1946, in Dallas, TX, to Jesse Thompson and Minnie Fritz Thompson. She was raised in Dallas for most of her youth while attending schools in the area. Geneva met and married the love of her life Charles Slatton on March 6, 1962, and they later moved to Wills Point in 1981, to make their home. Geneva was a homemaker while raising her children, but soon after was a supervisor for AAA Wire for many years until she retired. She was of the Baptist faith. Geneva enjoyed crocheting doilies and quilts. She also loved to read, cook and spend time with her friends and family.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Jesse and Minnie (Fritz) Thompson; husband, Charles Slatton; two brothers and one sister.
Geneva is survived by her children, Michael Slatton and wife Shannon of Quinlan, TX, Linda Stigall and husband Kenneth (Buddy) of Lone Oak, TX, Donna Renshaw of Emory, TX, and James Slatton of Wills Point; brothers, Larry Thompson and Wyley Lee Thompson; along with seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.

Obituary Preview: Randall (Randy) Wade Johnson passed away April 16, 2022, at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.  He was born on October 2, 1971, in Dallas, TX, to parents, Afton “Buddy” Benton Johnson and Rita Cassandra Brown.  Randy was raised in Irving, Texas, and graduated from MacArthur High School.  He attended Dallas College at the North Lake Campus, later receiving EMT - Paramedic training at Methodist Medical School, and he also attended Tarrant County College where he became a licensed Certified Nurse Assistant. Over the last several years, Randy was employed by Dicky's Arena in Fort Worth, where he very much enjoyed his work as an Operations Team Lead for many exciting shows and events.
In his off hours, Randy preferred to relax with his dogs, taking them on trips to the countryside, and otherwise, was an avid hockey and football fan.
He is preceded by his father, Buddy Johnson, and his uncle Donnie Doyle Brown.  Randy  is survived by his mother, Rita Cassandra Welton and husband Bruce James Welton of Colleyville, Texas, and step-mother Cliffette Lucretia Eads of Palmer, Texas.
Randy was interred at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point, TX. Services were under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.

Brad Lamont Thompson, Sr. (aka BL, Hulk) was born January 30, 1978, to Katina Thompson and Jerry Warren, Sr. He was raised most of his life in Wills Point and he attended high school in Will Point, TX where he was very active in sports. Brad’s passion was football and baseball. He also played basketball and ran track.
Brad joined Saint Mark CME church as a young boy. He loved singing and worshiping God.
Brad married his wife of 20 years Latoria Dillard-Thompson after dating almost 5 years on May 15, 2002.
Brad is proceeded in death by his son, Brandon Lonnel Thompson; grandfather Raymond Thompson, Sr.; grandparents Wilson and Faye Warren; devoted grandmother, Hortense Dunn; brother, Robert Rogers; mother-in-law, Elneita Dillard; uncles, Raymond, Maurice and Eldrick; brothers-in-law, Eugene and Laroy.

Marilyn was born in Post, Texas on January 1, 1923. She was one of six children of Lynn and Sibyl Jiles. She graduated from Burleson High School and moved to Fort Worth, Texas where she started her first job at Montgomery Wards Department Store Warehouse as a roller-skate-wearing order fulfillment clerk. In her later years, Marilyn lived with her sister Pat in Albuquerque, NM where they enjoyed daily high stakes bingo at the casino. Marilyn was a loyal Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers Fan. When she moved to Pinehurst, Marilyn would take a nap during the day to watch west coast games that started at 10:00 pm. Marilyn was always kind, and friendly to everyone she met. We will all deeply miss her, but she will be in our thoughts, stories and hearts for the rest of our days.
Marilyn will lay in rest next to her daughter Janice Deisher in Edgewood, Texas. Funeral services April 11th, 2022, visitation 10:00 am and funeral at 11:00 am at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.  Services entrusted to Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home of Wills Point, TX and Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines, NC.

Danny William Gann was born June 2, 1943, in Mt. Pleasant, TX to parents William Rue Gann and Josephine Gary Gann.  At an early age the family moved to Terrell where they owned and operated Wright’s Motel.  He married Kathey Rohus on April 9, l962, in Canton.  They were parents of one daughter, Shanna. He was employed as manager of the parts department for Carrier Corporation until he retired due to ill health.  Danny was of Presbyterian faith.  He loved collecting gemstones and Elvis memorabilia. He had a sense of humor that could entertain for hours with stories that were made up as he told them.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Josephine Gann, sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Mark Malone.
Danny is survived by his daughter, Shanna Ivy and husband Tad, grandsons, Cambren and Brendan Ivy all of Wills Point.  Niece, Sharon Joshua and her son, Shane, and nephew Doug Malone, all of Lancaster.

Joseph Howard Lamb was born on May 5, 1943, in Tyler, TX, to parents Joseph Franklin Lamb and Claudia Elizabeth Adrian. He was raised all around East Texas on account of his father being a preacher. Joe graduated from Edgewood High School in 1961, and later obtained his Bachelor’s degree in History from University of Texas Arlington. He met Mary Beatrice Lay in 1958, and they married on June 4, 1961, at First Baptist Church Edgewood. Joe and Mary lived in Irving for a while before moving back to Edgewood in 1984. He retired in 2005, from Transportation Services, Inc. based in Mesquite. Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church in Edgewood. He enjoyed whittling and carving wood and loved working in the garden.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Claudia Lamb; infant sister, Elizabeth Ann.

Cameron Lane Basham was born on June 16, 1987, in Dallas, TX, to parents Norman Dennis Basham and Mary Beth Mottwiler. He was raised in Mesquite where he attended school and later graduated from Wills Point High School Class of 2006. Cameron enlisted in the United States Air Force and later attended and graduated from Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix, AZ. Cameron married Randilyn Pritchard on October 4, 2014, and they made their home in Forney raising their two daughters. He and Randilyn lived in Forney until moving to North East Tennessee in Morristown and later to Arkansas where his work took them. Cameron worked in Malvern, AR, until recently moving back to Wills Point to be near his family. He was working at Amazon in Forney as a Field Service Technician for Plug Power. Cameron was very talented and could repair anything. He loved his daughters dearly and was loved by so many family members and friends. Cameron was easy going, had a huge heart and was always willing to help anyone who asked.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents.
Cameron is survived by his father, Norman Basham of Wills Point, TX; mother, Mary “Beth” Marchetti of Garland, TX; daughters, Ileana Rayne Basham and Laynie Renee Basham of Benton, AR; brother, Justin Basham of Wills Point, TX; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Gary Walter Cowan was born on February 10, 1950, in Seattle, WA, to parents Walter Edgar Cowan and Josephine Fray. He was raised in Dallas and graduated from Lake Highlands High School. Gary drove a truck across the country for many years hauling chickens to California and produce back to Texas. He enjoyed seeing different states and meeting other drivers. Gary married Patricia Kay Wilson in Dallas on September 19, 1981, and they lived in the Dallas area while raising their son John. He was employed by Stewart & Stevenson as a diesel mechanic for 16 years. Gary and Patricia moved to Wills Point in 2016, to make their permanent home after he retired in 2015. He loved riding his motorcycles, restoring tractors, hunting, fishing and shooting guns. Gary also enjoyed anything mechanical he could tinker with.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Jo Cowan; son, Stephen Cowan Hyde.

James "Jim" Michael Ballard - September 20, 1948 - March 15, 2022

Jim passed away on Monday, March 14th, 2022, at his home after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Jim was born September 20, 1948, in Dallas, TX, to parents James Alfred Ballard and Martha Wynell Wishard Ballard. He was raised in Lancaster where he graduated from high school. Jim enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968 and proudly served his country. He married Jo Ellen Wood on March 9, 1973 at First Baptist Church in Dallas in the Slaughter Chapel. During his military career he and Jo Ellen were stationed in various places across the country and raised their three children. In 1990 he retired as Master Chief from the United States Navy after 22 years. Jim was called to serve the Lord in full time ministry and began his second career. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from Criswell College in Dallas and his master’s degree from Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary in Newburgh, IN. He and Jo Ellen would move to the Edgewood community in 1990 to make their permanent home. Jim served as Education Director, Children's Ministry Pastor, and Senior Adult Pastor for First Baptist Church in Edgewood from 1991 to 2008. He and Jo Ellen made many trips with the senior adult groups of First Baptist Church Edgewood, he loved every minute he spent with them. Jim also served with the Kauf-Van Baptist Association serving in the capacity of Church ministry associate from 2008-2016.
Jim will be remembered by family and friends for his never ending “dad jokes” and his love of puns. He always had a joke or a funny story ready to tell. He loved his family deeply and enjoyed every second that he got to spend with them. Jim shared Jesus every chance he got with anyone he encountered. He wanted everyone to experience a relationship with the Lord. He was so proud of his time he spent in the Navy and was highly respected by his peers and the men who served under him. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and he will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents James and Martha Ballard, nephew Erik James Burley and brother-in-law Berland Rinker.
Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jo Ellen Ballard of Wills Point, TX; Jenny Weems and husband Gem of Wills Point, TX, Brent Ballard and wife Christine of Greenville, TX, Blake Ballard of Temple, TX; siblings Gary Ballard and wife Earline of Nevada, TX, Janet Tarno and husband Paul of Gun Barrell, TX, Sharon Rinker Dillard of El Paso, TX, and Susan Burley and husband Howard of Canton, TX; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Christopher, Ryan, Rachel, Matthew and Leora; great-grandchildren, Alizabeth, Arielle, and Ethen Jr.

She married Cecil Frankum in Portageville, MO, on March 23, 1963. Pat started her studies for nursing at St. Vincent’s in Little Rock and later obtained her R.N. certification from Grayson Co. College. She and Cecil lived in many states around the country and moved to Wills Point near Lake Tawakoni when she retired in 2010. Pat was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed playing the piano and accordion, fishing and loved to be outdoors.
She is preceded by her parents, John and Virginia Ross; husband, Cecil Frankum; son, Jason Frankum; grandson, Joshua Frankum; brothers, John and Michael Ross.

Nancy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Canton, served on the church board and was also on the board of the Sarah Norman Library in Canton. She enjoyed needle point, gardening, and entertainment.

Donna attended Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah, OK. She married Fred Edmonds in Dallas, TX, on April 7, 1984, and they made their home in Lake Highlands. She and Fred moved to Terrell in the year 2001. Donna retired as a Sr. Marketing Representative from Blue Cross Blue Shield and Availity. Donna was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was an avid Texas Ranger Baseball fan.  Donna loved shopping, making crafts and had a real talent for decorating.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Polly Lackie; brother, Hal Lackie.

She was employed with Baylor Scott & White in Dallas as a nurse for more than thirty-five years before retiring. Charlotte was a member of the Russell Memorial United Methodist Church.

He married Dee Allen in Arkansas on October 13, 1986, they lived in Euless for seven years before making their home in Edgewood. Bud worked in sales for the packaging industry for most of his life. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing and loved listening to music.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Margarite Donovan; and a sister, Lilly Donovan.

Ronald served his country in the United States Navy for twenty years and later as a Merchant Marine for another ten years. Ronald and Herminia were in the planning stages of moving to the Philippines permanently where they own a home.

Mike was born Feb. 16, 1950, in Houston to Ernest Grady Smith Jr. and Helen Delaine Wright Smith. The family moved to Wills Point in 1955, and Mike immediately began making lifelong friends. He graduated with the Wills Point High School Class of 1968, serving as class president his sophomore year. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington. After working at General Dynamics, Mike learned the computer programming and database management. He owned Delta Med, a health care software system, and was CIO for TrailBlazer Health in Dallas and director of specialty IT contracts and projects at Palmetto GBA in Columbia, S.C. He retired in 2019. A former Garland resident, he lived in Blythewood, S.C. for the past nine years.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Ernest Grady Smith Sr., Annie Overstreet Smith, Ella McAllister Wright, and Thomas M. Wright; the mother of his son, Angie Baugh Smith; and many good dogs and canaries.

Jerry was born on October 12, 1950, in Terrell, TX, to George Henry Neill and Irma Dean Vick Neill, who passed away just after Jerry’s 2nd birthday. After her passing, Irma Dean’s sister, Alma Fay Hargrove and her husband Felix Hargrove, raised him in Pleasant Grove where he graduated from W.W. Samuel High School in 1969. Jerry later attended Paris Junior College on a baseball scholarship, then obtained a Bachelors of Science degree with a focus on physical education and history at Texas A&M University-Commerce. When he married, Jerry resided with his family in Coppell, TX, and eventually moved to Fort Worth, TX, in 2010. Jerry became disabled in December of 2011 and lived in Fort Worth before moving to Christian Care Center in Mesquite, TX, in August of 2013.
Jerry lived and worked in the Dallas, TX, area throughout his career as an actor and entertainer. His roles include various commercial work throughout North Texas during the 1970s and 80s, as well as appearances on the Emmy award-winning tv series, Dallas. Jerry also assumed the role of disc jockey throughout his career, working private events in the DFW metroplex for companies, such as Mary Kay Cosmetics. From 1993-2003, Jerry successfully worked as a Bill Clinton impersonator for both Las Colinas Studios and independently, making state-wide event appearances.
He is preceded in death by his father, George Henry Neill and mother, Irma Dean Vick Neill; uncle, Felix Hargrove; brother, John Benjamin Neill; nephews, John Russell Neill and Troy Meerscheidt; and former fiancé, Linda Eikenberry.

She worked for Silver Leaf Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide in Garland as well as Luby’s Cafeteria. Judy June married Rev. Robert Guzman in Capp City, TX, on September 27, 1997, and they made their home in Mesquite. She and Rev. Robert moved to Eustace for six months, then to Broken Bow, OK, for twelve years and then on to Tom, OK, until her death. Judy June worked as a house keeper for the Broken Bow Inn and the Holiday Inn in Idabel. She also worked for Broken Bow Nursing Home and Southeast Nursing Home in Oklahoma. Judy June was a member of Chapel of the Pines SBC where she loved to teach Sunday school for the little ones for over ten years. She then became Co-Pastor with her husband Rev. Robert at Boles Southern Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday school. Judy June also had a love for horses and enjoyed horseback riding.
She is preceded in death by her father, Rev. James Barrett; brother, Eddie Barrett; and loving mother-in law, Celia Guzman.
