Wanda Jane Probst (Fischer) - February 18, 1945 - August 05, 2020

Departed: 08/05/2020 (The Villages)
Obituary Preview: Wanda Jane Probst (Fischer), daughter of George and Wanda R. Fischer, born on February 18, 1945 in Yardley, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on August 5th, 2020. At the time of her transitioning, she was hand in hand with the love of her life, husband Gus Probst, and surrounded by family, the bright sun shining down on her through the window above her bed in her home.
She is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, Gus, as well as her children, Bob (Roberta) Probst of Danbury, CT, Robin Maderich of Zionsville, PA, Ron (Linda) Probst of Conover, NC, seven grandchildren (with their respective spouses/significant others), her five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Wanda was predeceased by two brothers, George and Matthew, and is survived by her sister Lucille J. Lore, her brothers Carl and James Fischer, along with their children and great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous others of her beloved multigenerational family.
Wanda graduated from John Bassett Moore High School in Smyrna, Delaware in 1964. During this time, she was a Class Vice President, Varsity Cheerleader, Commercial Editor of the school newspaper, Spy Glass, and Co-Editor of the Smyrna Eagle, the school yearbook. Scholastically, she was one of the top ten seniors in her graduating class and was also awarded the Van Gasken Scholarship to pursue nursing at the University of Delaware in Wilmington.
Wanda’s careers included real estate, accounting, finance management, business entrepreneurship, project management and IT/systems analysis. Employed as a consultant by Georgia Pacific in both Connecticut and New York State, Wanda was offered a full-time position by Georgia Pacific in Atlanta in 1987. Wanda and her husband relocated to Kissimmee, Florida in 1996 to assist her sister, Lucille, in the care-giving of their father.
In 2004, Wanda and Gus moved to the Stonecrest Community in Summerfield, Florida. Wanda became deeply involved in many activities and organizations in the Stonecrest Community. She fulfilled thousands of requests for assistance from the Computer Club, always with a smile. She started the Carcinoid Cancer Support Group, was treasurer of the Emergency Response Team and reinvigorated the Newcomers Greetings Committee until her illness prevented her from continuing. She was always well-liked and respected by all who came into contact with her. Extremely modest, she often didn’t take credit for her accomplishments.
Wanda loved to dance and she learned the intricacies of ballroom dancing with her husband. At every opportunity she and Gus would take to the floor among like-minded individuals and, as the song goes, “dance the night away,” often outlasting their more youthful counterparts.
Wanda’s deepest satisfaction came from her husband and family. She was a caring, compassionate person who loved helping people. Wanda (who at one time adamantly proclaimed herself too young to be a grandmother) displayed the most profound happiness when with the younger generations of the family. In their company her eyes sparkled the brightest, her laughter rang out the loudest, and all could see in her expression how joyful she was to be sharing her life with theirs.
No public service is being held at this time, due to the current pandemic. To commemorate the passing and the life of Wanda Jane Probst, it is asked that you provide a donation to the charity of your choice in her name. A “Celebration of Life” will be planned at a later date. “We will be known forever by the tracks we leave.” (Native American Proverb)

Joseph William Peterson - July 02, 1922 - July 25, 2020

Departed: 07/25/2020 (The Villages)
Obituary Preview: Joseph William Peterson, Sr., age 98, of the Villages passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 2, 1922. To write about such an amazing man is difficult to do in just a few paragraphs as his lifetime of stories could fill the pages of an entire novel.
Living a modest lifestyle with his large family as a child, Joe knew at an early age that he was destined to live a full life that included taking care of his family, friends and country as he joined the United States Navy and was a veteran of WWII. Joe made so many lifelong friends along his journey that it would be impossible to recognize everyone because Joe was that guy who was always friendly and kind. He would never turn his back on someone that needed a hand. He had a heart of gold and left a permanent impression on so many just because it was the right thing to do. Joe never looked for the adulation, or praise from anyone. In fact, his generosity and kindness were the only way that Joe knew how to live life and he never wanted anything in return.
Joe had an amazing career with the Grumman Corporation and was able to retire in the 80’s to start his well deserved retirement. A success story from the very beginning Joe and his loving wife Trudie moved from Long Island and built a beautiful home on the water near Ocean City, Maryland. He was never a man to sit still though, he always said to keep moving because life is a gift and he always had more to share. After more than a decade in his home in Maryland, Joe built another new home in the Villages in Florida. Joe and Trudie truly loved Florida and as an avid golfer he would always enjoy the sunshine and looked forward to everyday, telling his whole family that it was always a beautiful day in The Villages. Joe was always the perfect host as he and Trudie loved plenty of visits from their family and everyone was always welcome.
To say that Joe loved his pets would be an understatement. I can’t recall a moment in time when Joe didn’t have a furry best friend by his side with the dogs that he loved. He was an avid dog person as they brought him such joy and happiness throughout his lifetime.
Joe Peterson was that guy that everyone knew and admired. If you were lucky enough to have crossed paths with him you would always walk away with a smile and have a brighter day just because you spent a few minutes with him. Joe and his loving wife Trudie have traveled through the United States and all over the world, always finding an adventure and making beloved memories.
Joe is survived by his amazing, supportive and loving daughter Pat Carey (pre-deceased by his son-in-law Jack Carey) and pre-deceased by his kind and caring son Joseph Perterson, Jr., a U.S. Army Veteran who left this lifetime way too young.
Joe was a role model for others and when it came to living life he had it figured out to make each moment count. Joe was blessed with beloved grand-children as well as many great- grandchildren. Being “pop-pop” was something that Joe was so proud to be and his strength, love and guidance inspired all of them to be better people and to leave a lasting impression no matter what it took.

He continued his love of travel after retiring, driving across the United States with his wife Beverly, visiting casinos along the way. Bob loved to golf and retired to Florida to be able to pursue the game at his leisure.
Bob never met a stranger and was always there with a smile and a kind word. The last few years Bob spent devotedly and lovingly caring for his wife, which his children cannot thank him enough for.
The loving father leaves his children Kristin Rhodes, Joelle Lapsley and her husband Frank, and Michael Rhodes and his wife, Tina. He enjoyed and celebrated his grandchildren as well, Declan and Gage Lapsley; Kyle, Zakary and Justyn Rhodes, and Maddie, Thomas, Travis and Macie Vance. He also leaves behind his sister, Florence Gerheiser, niece Sherry Matos-Smith and a large number of other nieces and nephews that all loved “Uncle Bob.” He was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Elsie (Lincoln) Rhodes, as well as his brothers, Earl, Lester, Calvin, Theodore, George and sisters Beatrice, Myrtle, Winifred and Lois.
His children are grateful to the numerous neighbors who looked out for him over the last few years.
If you knew Bob, you know he’s giving someone directions to somewhere right now and loving every minute of it.
