Tom graduated from St. Joseph High School Class of 1963 with honors and Notre Dame School of Business Class of 1967. Tom was passionate about music which carried over throughout his life. At a young age, he played the accordion with his brother Jim with the TEDDY BEARS and THE BLUE NOTES. Louise M. Fletcher - March 30, 1928 - April 05, 2022

Departed: 04/05/2022 (South Bend)
Obituary Preview: Louise M. Fletcher, 94, of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully at her home on April 5, 2022.
Louise was born in South Bend on March 30, 1928, to the late Albert and Louise Zeisz. She graduated from Michiana College of Commerce in South Bend, following completion of high school in 1946 from St. Joseph Academy. In 1952, Louise married Duane R. Fletcher, who preceded her in death in 2016. Louise and Duane were an incredible team who enjoyed life immensely.
Louise was a remarkable mother and friend. Her every activity focused on providing the best upbringing and opportunities for her children. Louise was a Room Mother at Holy Cross Grade School and a devout participant of Daughters of Isabella charitable activities, both in South Bend. From taking in sewing for additional means during her children’s adolescent years to both Louise and husband Duane donating weekend time to work at St. Joseph High School in South Bend, where their children attended, Louise’s commitment to family was unwavering. Louise’s family often reminisced about the summer days enjoyed with her in the 1960s picking fruits and vegetables. Many hours would then be spent preparing them for canning at the kitchen table. Despite Louise’s small stature, she handled the enormous pressure cooker without hesitation. Much to Louise’s amusement, her children would all scatter as the cooker heated up. Lo and behold, its lid only blew once!
Louise had an incredibly positive outlook and an enduring enthusiasm for life. Later in life, she enjoyed the challenges of playing online games on her desktop, and working on tabletop puzzles, having completed hundreds of them. The conversations with Louise, which exemplified her strength, kindness, and humor, will truly be missed.
Louise is survived by her children, Anne Long, Peggy Wojtowicz, and Duane Fletcher; grandchildren, Jeff Wojtowicz and Mike Wojtowicz; beloved sister, Delores Hanna; and their spouses; and four great-grandchildren. Louise’s cherished sister-in-law, Sherry Zeisz, preceded her in death in 1999; as did her sister, Gertrude Rosselit, in 2017; and brother, Albert Zeisz, in 2021.
The family would like to thank the Senior1Care and Traditions Health teams for the exceptional home care provided to Louise.
A private Catholic service was held on April 7, 2022. Louise was interred next to her husband, Duane, at Highland Cemetery in South Bend. Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
In honor of Louise’s life, donations may be made to Corvilla, Inc., 3620 Deahl Court, South Bend, IN 46628. To send private condolences to the family, please visit Louise’s obituary page at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com

Patrick F. O'Malley - April 19, 1935 - March 30, 2022

Departed: 03/30/2022 (South Bend)
Obituary Preview: Patrick F. O’Malley, 86, residing in Granger, IN, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2022, in his home with his family around him. He was born on April 19, 1935, in Galway, Ireland to the late Conor and Sarah (Joyce) O’Malley.
Patrick came to the United States in 1960 to attend UCLA for ophthalmology training. After completing his residency in retinal surgery at Mass Eye & Ear Hospital in Boston, Patrick moved to the South Bend area in 1967, where he was a devoted physician, who cared deeply for his patients, until retiring in 2005.
Patrick was a unique and beautiful soul. He was a devoted husband and father to his five sons. Despite his busy schedule, he dedicated his evenings and weekends to shuttle his sons to hockey practice, skiing, and countless other activities. And during those car rides and at the kitchen table, he recounted hilarious stories of his adventures and misadventure in the wild west of Connemara, Ireland. He imbued this sense of adventure in his children. While the elaborate swings and ziplines, that he built for them and their friends, might raise a few eyebrows in today’s safety-first culture, they were the basis of many fond memories for family and friends. He was always curious. Archeology, astronomy and photography being foremost in his interests, though his inquisitive mind appreciated many topics and fields. He was incredibly funny with a razor-sharp wit and while he liked to give a bit of gentle ribbing, he was such a gentle soul that no one could ever take offense. He was a deeply religious man, very active in St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he regularly attended Bible study. But mostly, he was a gentleman. He cared for others, always watching out for someone who might need some help or encouragement, and he never expected, or really wanted, anyone to know except for those he reached out to. He will be dearly missed.
On August 19, 1963, in California, Patrick married the former Imelda Cullen, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, he is survived by five sons, Conor (Nancy) O’Malley of Algonquin, IL; Brendan (Becky) O’Malley of Santa Monica, CA; Brian (Lisa) O’Malley of Rolling Hills Estates, CA; Ronan (Zhuzhu) O’Malley of San Diego, CA; Patrick (Steffi) O’Malley of Longmont, CO; and ten grandchildren, Verena, Katie, Patrick, Owen, Aaron, Sarah, Andreas, Katja, Isabel and Fiona; as well as one sister, Ann Kelly of Ireland. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Joan Ringrose and Grace O’Hara; and one brother, Conor O’Malley.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN. Graveside services and inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the church prior to Mass. Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Dr. Patrick O’Malley may be donated to Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore, MD 21297; or St. Vincent DePaul Society, 520 Crescent Avenue, South Bend, IN 46617; or a charity of your choice.

Obituary Preview: James “Jim” R. Langford, 84, residing in South Bend, passed away at 3:50am on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at his home. He was born on June 12, 1937, to the late Walter and Alice “Dit” (Joubert) Langford and has remained a lifelong area resident.
Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Lois (Bill) Berry. He is survived by his loving companion, Nimbilasha Cushing; his four children, Jeremy (Liz Collier) Langford, Joshua (Cathy) Langford, Trevor Langford and Emily Langford; his six grandchildren; his brother, Walter Langford; his sister, Libby (John) Naimo; as well as his dear friend, Jill Justice Langford.
Jim graduated from Holy Cross Grade School and St. Joseph High School. He was an avid tennis player and won four South Bend and one Indiana championships. He entered the University of Notre Dame on a journalism scholarship in 1955. After a year, he joined the Dominican Order, and in the next seven years, earned an undergraduate and four graduate degrees. After serving four years as a priest, he requested and was granted a dispensation from the Vatican. Jim went on to a career in book publishing at Doubleday, the University of Michigan Press, and from 1974 to1999, as Director of the University of Notre Dame Press. He was a concurrent assistant professor in the Core Course at the University of Notre Dame. Selected as a Hesburgh Lecturer, he was awarded a Kaneb Award for outstanding teaching at the university.
In 1994, Jim and Jill Langford co-founded a day camp on 16 acres near Lakeville, to serve inner-city children from Michiana and as far away as Chicago. In its 17 years, There Are Children Here hosted more than 30,000 child visits and more than 5,000 volunteers who worked with the children.
Following his retirement from the University of Notre Dame in 1999, Jim worked as a consulting editor for the Rowman and Littlefield Publishing Group before founding, with Tim Carroll, Corby Publishing Company in South Bend.
In addition to publishing thousands of books by a wide range of prominent authors in fields from science to spirituality to sports, Jim authored 12 books, five of them on his beloved Chicago Cubs. Few things brought him greater satisfaction than living long enough to see the Cubs win the World Series in 2016 after a 108-year dry spell. Two of his books achieved best-seller status, and he was always delighted that his Galileo, Science, and the Church has remained in print since 1966. With his son, Jeremy, he wrote The Spirit of Notre Dame and, at the urging of family, shared his extraordinary journey and search for happiness in his memoir, The Times of My Life.
In the face of lifelong physical and health challenges, Jim’s faith, intellect, and humor always shined through. There’s no doubt he’s enjoying the heavenly banquet – and even holding court – with all those he loved and admired.

She knew when all the birthdays and anniversaries took place and never failed to congratulate everyone. She called the phone her lifeline.
Maddie traveled regularly by herself to visit family around the country. She had a guardian angel, in the form of kind strangers, who would appear when she needed help in subways or airports getting through to family members.
