David Martin Roberts - December 06, 1968 - June 30, 2022

Departed: 06/30/2022 (Huntington Beach)
Obituary Preview: David Martin Roberts was born on December 6, 1968 in Torrance, California. He passed away at the age of 53, on June 30, 2022.  He is a beloved Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend.  Survived by his parents, Dave and Hilda Roberts; his sisters, Lorraine Rauch and Christina Hower; nephews and nieces, Ryan Atwood, Drew Crane, Troy Crane, Joe Hower, Mae Hower, Otto Crane, Lilia Crane, Bella and Jace Atwood.
Follow the laughter, and you could always find Dave.  If there was a silly joke or a mischief about, he was in on it.  Finding the humor and spotting potential for fun, in all situations, was a gift we all enjoyed and admired in Dave.  A simple trip to a local park with nephews became a hero’s adventure, with an imagined rushing river to be precariously crossed.  He once turned a trip to SeaWorld with a young niece and nephews into a Shamusical. His imagination, free spirit, and humor made its way into all aspects of his life. We are so lucky to have been in on his fun.
David never had children, but he had a palomino horse named Cowboy, while growing up, and a golden retriever named Barley, as an adult. His bond with both these animals was remarkable and endearing.  He had them well trained, but still gave them room join him in shenanigans.
A curious and intelligent person, David truly never stopped learning.  He graduated from Fountain Valley High School in 1986, and then received a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Chapman University.  His college career ended with a double major in a Botany and Biology from Humboldt State University. A pragmatic naturalist and conservationist at his core, David lived in places where he could surround himself with natural beauty. He loved skiing and mountain biking in Tahoe, and then moved back to San Diego and Ventura to enjoy the coastline.  His love for the natural world and his compassionate ideals led David to pursue a career in environmentalism.  He spent his life doing what he loved.  Thank you for being compassionate and making the world a better place Dave!
For the past 6 years, Dave had been working as a Resource Conservation Manager at the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District.  He loved his work here and the people he worked with.  Over the past few years Dave was instrumental in the creation of a beautiful Sustainable Demonstration Garden. He was really proud of the way it turned out and the potential impact it could have on the LA County community. Before working at the water district, Dave was a Restoration Ecologist for River Partners for 7 years, an Open Water Development Manager at Marrone Bio Innovations for almost 2 years, a District Manager for the Tahoe Resource Conservation District for 4 years, an Environmental Scientist, Lake Tahoe TMDL, and Project Manager at California Regional Water Quality Control Board for 6 years. Before this, Dave worked for the League to Save Lake Tahoe and the National Park Services in Oregon, where he identified several new plant species.
Dave was an adventurous, independent traveler who made friends wherever his feet landed.  During a travel hold in Thailand, after 911, Dave made the best out of being stranded by staying in an island resort, where he became known as the American Buddha. He made friends and created laughter while traveling in New Zealand, Hawaii and Europe.  You are on your final adventure now Dave and one thing is certain, you will make friends, reunite with old friends, and the laughter will follow.
Thank you for the fun memories, Dave. You are loved and you will be dearly missed.
In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the League to Save Lake Tahoe or the Sierra Club.
Please check back for upcoming information on a Celebration of Life Memorial.

Virginia Alice Cabrera - October 12, 1963 - June 21, 2022

Departed: 06/21/2022 (Huntington Beach)
Obituary Preview: Remembering Virginia…
Our Mother, Virginia Salladay, 58, of Huntington Beach, California, suddenly passed away the night of June 21st 2022. She is survived by her husband Rafael, daughter Alicia, sons Ralph, Daniel, and Francisco "Pancho"  and her beautiful grandchildren Allison, Evangeline, Ella, Norah, Nicholas, and Zachary.
Virginia was a loving and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She loved spending time with those that she loved. Her favorite place to visit was Las Vegas, Nevada with her family, this is one of the few places that could bring her to have fun regardless of how she felt physically or mentally. Of the moments that we will remember about our Mother Virginia, the moments of happiness and joy that she experienced when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren are the most memorable. She loved family, she would often say that we were her reason for living.
Though we are heartbroken by the sudden loss of our Mother Virginia, we are comforted with the belief that she is at peace, without illness and in the company of her own mother, Jeanette.
We love you Mom, you will be forever missed.

In 1962 the Pallo family moved to Costa Mesa, California.  She used to describe Costa Mesa as a small college town surrounded by orange groves.  Over the years she saw the city grow into a nationwide destination.  After George’s retirement from ITT Jabsco Products, Ann and George toured California in their motor home and took many wonderful international trips which brought them to Mexico City, and cities and towns in Europe.  Tragically, in 1992 George suffered an untimely death while Ann and George were visiting Lucerne, Switzerland.

Ann was much loved in her neighborhood and looked forward to celebrating her birthday each year.  She was very determined to live to at least 100 years old.  Last September she reached that goal and celebrated at the church hall of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in which she was a member since her arrival in Costa Mesa.  She was honored by the presence of Costa Mesa Mayor John Stephens and said on many occasions, “I can’t believe the mayor would attend my birthday party in person.”  She received greetings and congratulations from Governor Gavin Newsom, Supervisor Katrina Foley and Costa Mesa City Council Member Manuel Chavez.  She was honored to receive an Apostolic Blessing from His Holiness Pope Francis.
Ann will be missed by all that knew her.  When asked what the secret to a long live would be, she stated simply that one should take each day at a time, and oh yes, keep breathing.

Crystal Daun Sanchez - October 22, 1949 - May 06, 2022

Departed: 05/06/2022 (Huntington Beach)
Obituary Preview: Crystal Daun Sanchez Obituary
Chris Sanchez was an energetic fun loving wife and mother who enjoyed instigating family and friend gatherings, hosting and cooking for everyone. Crystal Daun Hudson was born to John William and Carolyn Jean Hudson in 1949 and had two younger brothers Gregory and Ronald Hudson. Chris left this world on May 6, 2022, at the age of 72 after a prolonged incapacitation from a cerebral aneurism in 1976. She met her husband, Wilfred Sanchez, at Barstow Community College where the two of them graduated together in 1970. They were married for 52 years and had one daughter, Heather Sanchez. In 1973, the three moved to Costa Mesa, CA, where she enrolled in a variety of home improvement classes, including a furniture re-finishing class, so she could furnish the new home she found with antique furniture. She enjoyed cooking heirloom family recipes, baking and making most of her own clothes. She loved the beach and took her young daughter with neighbor mothers to the bay regularly for outings. In 1974, Chris suffered her first cerebral aneurism, almost completely recovered and was able to do all the things she loved. In 1976, Chris was studying for her real estate license when she was struck with a cerebral aneurism. But she was strong, determined and courageous. She went to physical therapy, did her exercises daily and did as many things for herself as she could to be as independent as possible.
Chris had an indomitable spirit and tremendous love for life. She enjoyed getting up every day and living that day as if it may be her last. She enjoyed everyone with whom she had contact and was a joy to have as a friend, mother and wife. All who knew her, loved her. She always made people feel good about themselves as they were amazed with her wonderful outlook on life.
Chris is predeceased by her parents Carolyn Jean and John William Hudson. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Wilfred Sanchez, her daughter Heather and her husband Jeff Weidner, her two grandsons Jackson and Ronan Weidner, and her two brothers Greg and Ron Hudson and their families, along with many other family members and close friends who were like family to her.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing a sense of closure for those who are grieving. They can also be used to notify friends and acquaintances of the passing, and to share information about funeral or memorial services.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased. Funeral homes or crematories may also offer assistance in writing and submitting obituaries to newspapers or online platforms.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary should include the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies or interests, and surviving family members. You may also want to include a brief biography or anecdote that captures their personality or spirit.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform it will be published on. Generally, it's best to aim for a concise summary of the person's life, around 150-200 words.

Can I include photos or other multimedia in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and some newspapers allow you to include photos, videos, or other multimedia elements to make the tribute more personal and engaging.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and any specific requirements they may have. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for publication.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, it's becoming increasingly popular for people to write their own obituaries in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise in reflecting on one's life and legacy, and can also ensure that your story is told in your own words.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer to keep the obituary private, you can opt for a private online memorial page or share it only with close friends and family through email or social media.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial funds in an obituary?

Yes, many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a cause they cared about.

How do I find an old obituary from years ago?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites that specialize in historical records. Local libraries or genealogical societies may also have access to archived newspapers and records.

Can I reuse an existing obituary template?
