Darlene Rae Boggess - July 30, 1933 - March 28, 2024

Departed: 03/28/2024 (Glendale)
Obituary Preview: Darlene Rae Anderson Boggess passed away peacefully on March 28 in Peoria, Arizona, surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old. She lived a very full life centered around her family. She is survived by her four daughters: Linda Hallstrom, Joy Winger, Jeanie Morrison, and Cindy McCutchen, three sons-in-law: Larry Winger, John Morrison, and Bob McCutchen, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Darlene was born in Princeton, MO, although she and her parents moved to her father's hometown of Camdenton, MO shortly after her birth. At times during her childhood, she lived with her Aunt Billie and Uncle Harry while her parents pursued work. Her father (Warren F. "Andy" Anderson) developed a lung disease, and in 1939 doctors suggested the warm, dry Arizona climate would improve his health. The family of three purchased an 18-foot house trailer and headed to Arizona in a 1937 Chevy. They lived in west Phoenix where Darlene started first grade, her mother (Eva Olive Faye Johnson Anderson) worked, and Andy underwent several surgical procedures for his lung disease. They moved to Goodyear, AZ, in 1942 where both her parents began their long careers at Goodyear Aircraft (which later became the Naval Air Facility). Darlene attended Avondale Elementary and Tolleson High School. All the while they farmed cotton and raised horses and cows. Darlene's love of animals flourished. She spent many hours caring for and riding her strawberry roan horse, Chico.
After graduating high school, Darlene attended Lamson Business College and worked at Coulter Cadillac dealership in Phoenix. Darlene met and married a co-worker in 1953. They were stationed in Moses Lake, WA, for 18 months followed by almost two years in Anchorage, AK. They returned to Phoenix in November 1956. Darlene was busy raising four daughters when they moved to Gilbert, AZ, in 1961. In her "spare" time she volunteered at the Gilbert Library and the Garden Club, was active in the Methodist Church, and was a Girl Scout leader and Cookie Mom.
In 1968 Darlene began a 35-year career at Gilbert High School where she started as attendance secretary and soon was promoted to secretary for the next six high school principals. She thrived working with the teachers, staff, and administrators at GHS, whom she considered her "second family." She made life-long friends with some of her colleagues.
Darlene and her dear Aunt Billie moved to Mesa, AZ, in 1985 where they hosted family holidays graduations, weddings, receptions, swim parties, plus Christmas and retirement parties for GHS colleagues. She was a great hostess, generous with her time and money, and she loved big. She lived there for many years with her beloved lab/chow mix Lexie.
In 2016 to downsize and become an amazing great-grandmother ("Gigi") to the little ones, Darlene relocated to Peoria, AZ. She shared her life there with her chihuahua Chico who got her through the COVID pandemic.
As much as she loved her pets - and there were many - she also enjoyed traveling. In 1986 she took an Alaskan cruise and visited Anchorage, AK. She journeyed many times to San Francisco, CA, one of her favorite cities. She also traveled to Washington, DC, Hawaii, Kansas City, the Holy Land, Osan Air Base in Korea, Heidelberg, Germany, the Dominican Republic, Italy, France, and Monaco. You couldn't keep her away from Disneyland in Southern CA. She invited her children and grandchildren to accompany her on many of these experiences.
She marked her 90th birthday on July 30, 2023, in Peoria, AZ, in a big way with her daughters, sons-in-law, almost all her grandchildren and their spouses, and great-grandchildren.
Darlene loved Jesus and most recently attended Central Christian Church, Mesa, AZ, and Christ's Church of the Valley and Copper Hills Church, both in Peoria, AZ. She truly had a wonderful, blessed, and full life.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Darlene's life at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 4, at Christ's Church of the Valley Peoria campus, Building 400 (7007 W. Happy Valley Road, Peoria, AZ). Flowers may be delivered to the church on the day of the service. Please consider donating in her name to the Arizona Humane Society or Habitat for Humanity.

Departed: 03/19/2024 (Glendale)
Obituary Preview: Robert “Bob” Dean Campbell
Robert Dean Campbell “Bob” passed away on March 19, 2024, at the age of 74. Bob was born on August 25, 1949, in Arvada, Colorado to Clifford and Ardith (Greenfield) Campbell. He grew up in Arvada, Colorado with his sister, Diane (Robbins) and he graduated from Arvada West High School.
After some time at Western Technical College Bob volunteered to the United States Navy (1970-1974) and served on the USS Enterprise, specializing in maintenance of aircraft hydraulic systems. During his service he took up photography and his family later enjoyed evenings watching 35mm slide shows of his time on ship and in various Asia Pacific ports.
In 1970, Bob married Jeannie (McCall), and together they had three children: Michael, Michelle, and Matthew. As a believer in the salvation from sin offered through Jesus Christ, Bob prioritized his family’s participation in the fellowship of Christians at the First Baptist Church of Arvada where he served as a deacon and where he and his father Clifford supported the merger of the church with Tri-City Baptist Church. His family benefitted from many long-term relationships there, and they consistently heard the good news of Jesus Christ and grew in their faith and understanding of what it means to follow Jesus. This spiritual impact continues through his children and their families.
Bob enjoyed the outdoors and involved his family in various outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, snow skiing, water skiing, and 4WD adventures in the high mountains of Colorado. The family also enjoyed several trips to significant locations all across the continental United States.
After completing his honorable service in the United States Navy, Bob entered his working years and demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit through running Campbell’s Automotive and subsequently working in various roles in the family business, Campbell’s Cement and Suburban Reddi Mix, which was started by his grandfather Roy Campbell. Later Bob started and operated several businesses and was an investor in various enterprises related to his interests. He also became a pilot and enjoyed flying his Cessna 172.
Later in life, Bob married Linda Campbell. Together they lovingly and faithfully cared for Clifford and Ardith Campbell during their final years. During this season, Bob enjoyed many of his life-long interests and hobbies, such as riding his motorcycle (a 2003 Yamaha Road Star Silverado 1600) with friends, and the ownership (and significant upgrades) of his and Linda’s three Corvettes. Bob and Linda enthusiastically participated in the 2019 Corvette Caravan to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. He expertly upgraded and repainted his 2017 Corvette Grand Sport and received honors for his work in the Top of the Rockies Car Show in August 2022. Additionally, Bob’s legacy of meeting needs that came to his attention continued, both for individual acquaintances, friends, and family, and through his and Linda’s extensive volunteer work at Camp Grace in Wyoming. In his final years and months Bob continued in the Christian faith and repentance, and his hope in Christ deepened.
Bob is survived by his wife, Linda; his sister, Diane (Rick) Robbins; his aunt, Norma (Greenfield) Newens; his children, Michael (Rebekah Bennett), Michelle (Stephen) Johnson, and Matthew (Kristin Coleman); eight grandchildren; and his former wife and the mother of his children, Jeannie Mills.
In the sure hope of rising again with Christ, Bob will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236. A private Committal Service for family and invited guests only will be held on the morning of Thursday, March 28th, 2024.
A public Memorial Service for Bob will be held on Thursday, March 28th at 2:00 PM at Tri-City Baptist Church: 6953 W. 92nd Lane, Westminster, CO 80021, with a reception to follow for guests to share memories and condolences with each other and the family. Rochelle Faye Hughes - June 24, 1938 - February 10, 2024

Departed: 02/10/2024 (Glendale)
Obituary Preview: Rochelle Faye (DeHainaut) Hughes passed away peacefully at home, with her family, on February 10, 2024. She was 85 years old. Born in South Charleston, WV on June 24, 1938, Rochelle was raised by her parents, George and Kathleen DeHainaut, alongside her older brother Charles, and older sister Loretta in their home on Kentucky Avenue. She graduated from South Charleston High School, where she met the love of her life, Miles G. Hughes. They were married shortly after graduation, and he enlisted in the air force sending them on an epic 24-year tour of the world. They had three sons together while living in many different places including Germany, Japan, and many U.S. states before they settled in Glendale, Arizona.
Rochelle was a talented artist, award-winning floral designer, and entrepreneur, owning and operating “The Atrium,” a flower shop in Sun City, AZ for some time. She also worked for Phoenix Flowers and Old America Stores as a florist and trainer of new florists.
Her oil paintings are treasured by the friends and family who’ve received them over the years. There wasn’t an art form she wouldn’t try (and have a natural talent for) including ceramics, stained glass, jewelry making, sewing, quilting, and sketching to name a few. A woman of exquisite taste, she created and collected many beautiful things over her lifetime.
Despite her incredible talents, Rochelle, affectionately known as GiGi, was one of the most humble, kind, and generous people you would hope to meet. She was a devoted wife, a caring mother, and the absolute best grandmother. She loved nothing more than to spoil her family with gifts and time. Rochelle and Miles often took van loads of kids and grandkids on wonderful adventures to see National parks, big attractions, KOA camping, and to visit family. She always made sure to pack new toys, books, and tons of snacks to keep the kids busy. Holidays were her favorite time. She loved to decorate, make big Easter baskets, arrange egg hunts, and wrap every single gift like it was a piece of art. She made sure everyone who was attending a holiday in her home felt welcomed and received a gift of some kind.
In the years after her husband passed, the big adventures slowed down, but Rochelle still loved to get out. She tried new restaurants and frequented her favorite places. She loved visiting the Phoenix Art Museum, going out shopping, and attending craft fairs. As Parkinson’s set in, she favored the movies and would watch just about anything as long as there was popcorn with extra butter and classic Coke to be had. Rochelle even got her hair done every single Saturday up until the very end, thanks to her friend and hairdresser of 14 years, Derek. In the final years of her life, the calls and holiday cards from her friends and family were bright spots in her days, especially the calls from Leila Smith and the handmade cards from her long-time friend, Toni Starr.
Rochelle is survived by her brother, Charles Dehainaut, her three sons, Miles Hughes II (and Barbara), Joel Hughes, Tim Hughes (and Sheila), and her honorary daughter, Denise. Her Grandchildren: Beverly Johnson (and Perry), Miles Hughes III, Stephanie (Matt) Smith, Timothy Hughes II, David Hughes, Robin Hughes, and James Hughes. Great grandchildren: Michael VanBuren, ShyAnn, Calvin, and Odin. Rochelle is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Rochelle is preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 57 years, Miles Hughes. Her parents George DeHainaut and Kathleen (McClure) Eastwood, her dear sister, Loretta (DeHainaut) McClure, nephew Craig McClure, and great-niece, Susan Dawson.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at her home in Glendale, Arizona. A service will commence at 1:30 p.m. with music and refreshments to follow. Please reach out for the address if needed.

Jacob could also often be found immersed in building Legos or watching some of his favorite shows such as Stranger Things or any movies that were about dogs or wolves.
Jacob valued the friendships that he made through school and his extra-curricular activities and wanted to make a positive impact on the world. He was an incredibly loving and kind child who enjoyed spending time with his brothers. You could often catch them playing video games, or board games, hear them exchange random fun facts or banter about video game characters and upcoming movies/shows.
We want to extend our gratitude to all of Jacob’s nurses, doctors, and care team, who always treated him like family during his treatment and supported us during his long battle with leukemia. And to our family and friends who were always there to provide prayers of hope and love to Jacob.
Services will be held at: Christ Church of the Valley (CCV) at 7007 W Happy Valley Road in Peoria Arizona on Saturday, February 17th, 2024 at 10:00 am in Building 400—reception to immediately follow at an offsite location.

Mary Elizabeth McEvilly - April 27, 1933 - January 15, 2024

Departed: 01/15/2024 (Glendale)
Obituary Preview: Mary Elizabeth (Foldesi) McEvilly, 90, a 21-year resident of Sun City West, Arizona, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, January 15, 2024, at the Inspira Arrowhead assisted living facility in
Glendale, Arizona.
Mary was born on April 27, 1933 on a small family farm in the small community of Rockford, Iowa. She was the second of six children born from November 1930 to August 1947 to Elizabeth Mary (Brandecker) Sper Foldesi and Charles Michael Foldesi, who had emigrated from Eastern Europe in June 1930. The family grew during some of the most memorable years of American history, and as the oldest girl, Mary continually took on many responsibilities for her younger siblings. In 1934, during the height of the Great Depression, the family moved off the farm to nearby Mason City, Iowa, where Mary’s father worked at the Lehigh Portland Cement Company, and the small family, now having three children, lived in company housing for a few years before moving to a larger house when the family added a fourth child in 1937, who died at age seven months. In 1940, during the beginning of World War II, the family moved to the home that would be its permanent residence until the end of the decade,
while adding a fifth child. The family’s sixth child was born in 1947 in the post-war years. Mary attended Holy Family Elementary and High School in Mason City, graduating in 1952. She was frequently on the honor roll during her high school years, and was Secretary in the Senior Class officer leadership. During a mock city government event, when the City of Mason City was taken over by
senior students from the city’s three high schools, Mary was designated as Auditor. Following high school graduation, Mary attended secretarial school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduating later in 1952. She then went to work in various secretarial roles for the remainder of the 1950s in the Chicago business offices of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Company, along
with her younger sister Veronica, with whom she also shared a small apartment until her marriage. On May 10, 1958, Mary married Edward James McEvilly of Chicago. The couple began their life together in Algonquin, Illinois, near Cook County and Chicago, and Mary commuted for seven years to her job in the Loop until the birth of the first of two children she and Ed adopted. She ultimately went back to work outside the home as the children got older, held various secretarial jobs closer to Algonquin, including a position at Harry D. Jacobs High School in Algonquin during the time her two children were in attendance there. Additionally, Mary was an active member of her Catholic parish in Algonquin, especially as an officer and committee leader of the St. Margaret Mary Altar & Rosary
Society.
Music became an important part of Mary’s life in high school and continued on through her adult years.
She participated in piano recitals in high school, both solo and in duets with her younger sister Veronica. She sang in her local parish choir during high school, and after her marriage, joined the adult choirs of
the churches she shared with her husband. Mary and Ed McEvilly retired to Arizona in 2001, where they both continued to participate in various church and community events. Ed died April 29, 2016, and Mary lived alone until 2022 when she moved
to the assisted living facility. Mary’s two children survive her along with their families: Daughter Lori Ann McEvilly Vraney of Peoria, Arizona, her husband Jeffrey Vraney, their children Jason Elko and his wife Nicole Elko, Michelle Stolper and her husband Christopher Stolper, Brittany Vraney, and Christopher Vraney, and their grandchildren Carson Elko, Abby Elko, Austin Elko, Brooklyn Elko, Ella Stolper, and Damian Stolper; Son Thomas Edward McEvilly of Danville, California, his wife Emily Lorch McEvilly, their
children Maisie McEvilly, Marley McEvilly, Fiona McEvilly, and Callan McEvilly.
Mary is also survived by two siblings, Margaret Therese Leitch of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Dr.
Barbara K. Petersen, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, along with three nieces and four nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Edward McEvilly, parents Elizabeth and Charles Foldesi, and siblings Karl Joseph Foldesi, infant sister Theresa Magdalene Foldesi, and sister Veronica Ann
Gatens; brothers-in-law Melvin Gatens, O. Keith Petersen, and Starr Wilson Leitch. Mary was cremated. A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas More Church in Glendale, Arizona on March 18, 2024 at 10:30 a.m., with interment at 12:30 p.m. in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona alongside her husband. Sou Wei Zhang - February 23, 1980 - January 10, 2024

Departed: 01/10/2024 (Glendale)
Obituary Preview: Meme, a most loving and caring mother, wife, daughter, sister, cousin, friend…died so unexpectedly and undeservedly on the afternoon of Wednesday January tenth. She would be 44 in one month, but I know she would prefer going by 43. (She was so young at heart and beautiful she could be mistaken for her thirties!) Her cause of death is currently unknown.
Meme was born on February 23, 1980 to two devoted and hard working parents that love her and have eternally watched over her, Homer and Yue Zhang. She is survived by her parents, a loving brother, and so many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunties, and uncles that all love her.
Meme brought two of the most wonderful children into this world. They are a wonderful mix of her loving kindness and the spice she could have. May gave her heart and life to a hubby that will forever miss her. She made him a better person from the first day they met. Showing him that kindness is the way. I miss you May.
While Meme could cook well enough you’d expect her to be a chef at a restaurant, she wasn’t. She was a very outgoing person and loved being a sign language interpreter. She met and touched the lives of so many people this way.
If you know Meme well, you know how selfless and kind she could be. Always thinking of other people first. She was a workaholic that made time for her husband and two boys while still keeping in touch with those she cared about. She managed to somehow plan for the boys years in advanced, organize and help the kids with current theater and dance classes, volunteer for bunny adoptions, and still come home and make dinner a few times a week and watch a couple of her favorite t.v. shows with her hubby.
You are so dearly missed my love. Our lives are the better for having had you in them, and so much more empty now that you’re gone. I love you.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They can help facilitate communication among loved ones, provide closure, and create a sense of community during a difficult time.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased. However, it's not uncommon for funeral homes or professional writers to assist with the writing process.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about memorial services, donations, or other ways to pay tribute.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary greatly, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details. Aim for 1-2 paragraphs at most.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes! Many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to include one or more photos of the deceased. This can help bring the person to life and make the obituary more personal.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?
