Kathleen I. Watson - November 24, 1951 - April 28, 2024

Departed: 04/28/2024 (Wellesley Hills)
Obituary Preview: Kathleen I. Watson completed her well lived life here on earth, passing away peacefully, moving on to her new life in the Heavens. She was embraced by her mumma, Irene, her brothers, Tommy, Joey, Matthew and sisters, Marie, Anne, and Marian as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and many friends.
She leaves behind her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 52 years Jim Watson, her daughters, Dawn Marie Watson Cenedella (husband Paul Angelo Cenedella) and daughter Kristy Anne Watson. She is survived by her sister Irene Grandine (husband Dan Grandine), brothers Francis Reardon and brother Mark Reardon (fiancé Sue Sirois).
Kathy became a caretaker at a very young age, shielding her young siblings from and through tough times. She led by example on how to be loving, caring and nurturing for others. As young newlyweds, Jim and Kathy continued their role of caring for Kathy's younger brother Mark and raised him. Later, they had two daughters, Dawn Marie and Kristy Anne. Jim worked hard providing while Kathy remained at home raising the kids. Kathy had a knack for creating things beautiful and special, adding a lot of sparkle and shine, she especially loved sparkling red roses. She and Jim worked together to make her vision reality.
Kathy especially loved her homemaker role, and it was evident to all who entered. Kathy loved to laugh and had an infectious smile that lit up every room she entered. She touched many people's hearts in many ways, always making them feel welcomed anytime in her presence. She loved to have fun and be silly and worked hard to make sure everyone had fun along with her. Everyone wanted to be invited back...soon. Her home was a space for many good times and lots of happy memories. Christmas displayed her generous nature with gifts for all, all perfectly and beautifully wrapped, adorned with ribbons and bows. She was an accomplished Italian cook, taught by her mother, and Kathy was especially known for her meatballs. Her parties always had lots of food, serving appetizers, snacks, full meals, and desserts. Not to mention the filled to go boxes. If you went home from Kathy’s house hungry, that was your own fault. If Kathy learned you were moving to a new place and needed help, she would go to great lengths to make sure you had everything you needed to make your house a warm home. Even during the last few months of her life, when she could not serve people herself, she still made sure all were well taken care of.
It is hard to put a number on the many of hearts she touched in her lifetime. And now she is touching many more hearts in the Heavens.

He later joined Continental Investment Corporation, where he established two new investment management firms before becoming a vice president at Fidelity Investments; while there, he helped shift the company's mutual fund distribution strategy to direct marketing through advertising and the mail. He eventually fulfilled his dream to work for himself, maintaining his own wealth management and retirement planning consultancy for the 25 years preceding his retirement.
Pete spent most of his adult years in Weston, MA, where he and Betty raised Brenda and Pete Jr. before welcoming grandchildren Reese and Mathis into the world. Along with his unwavering love and dedication to his family, he will always be remembered for his warmth, curiosity, patriotism, and love for singing, guitar playing, swimming, running, and animals.

Raymond Leo Harrington Murphy, Jr. - July 26, 1932 - February 26, 2024

Departed: 02/26/2024 (Wellesley Hills)
Obituary Preview: Raymond “Ray” Leo Harrington Murphy, Jr, of Chestnut Hill and Wareham, MA passed away on
February 26, 2024, at the age of 91 at the Parlin Hospice in Wayland, MA. Ray was born in Flushing, New York, the son of Dr. Raymond and Alice (Clancy) Murphy. He attended Regis High School and matriculated at Holy Cross where he was captain of the swim team, graduating in 1954. Ray proudly served on the USS Forrestal as part of the
commissioning crew responsible for patrolling the Mediterranean Sea. While Ray was on leave, he took the train back to NYC and met Margaret “Peggy” Ann Allen who had finished her shift as a nurse at Flushing Hospital. They met, fell in love, and were
married in 1958. They welcomed son Ray III, and twins Ann & Michael followed by Maureen. Ray earned his M.D. from New York University, completing his residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital. Lifelong New Yorkers, Ray and Peggy decided to move their young family to Boston so that Dr Ray could pursue a master’s degree at the Harvard School of Public Health. Alice and
Matthew arrived soon after making it an even six, like Ray’s family of origin. As a young doctor with a family of eight, Ray made time for hugs, piggybacks, and help with homework, tucking kids in with his trademark “Daddy loves you”. Dr Ray began his career in Pulmonology, rising to Chief of Pulmonary Medicine at both the Faulkner and Shattuck Hospitals. He also served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Occupational Medicine for the Harvard School of Public Health and Associate Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr Ray’s thoughtful, caring nature always shined through with patients and fellow staff. He treated patients with dignity and respect, especially those with lung cancer and
tuberculosis nearing the end of life. Recognizing the potential for technology to transform the analysis of lung sounds, Dr. Murphy co-founded the International Lung Sounds Association (ILSA), which brought engineers and medical experts together to accelerate the progress in this field and included conferences in
Helsinki, Finland, Haifa, Israel, Sydney, Australia, Tokyo, Japan, and Boston to name just a few. Dr Ray's dissertation at Harvard School of Public Health on Asbestosis resulted in a change to the national standard for the use of Asbestos in products so the incidence of disease could be reduced. In 2006, due to his work advancing research of Occupational Lung Disease, he won the ILSA Award and, in 2009 the Chadwick Medal from the MA Thoracic Society (President 1978-80) for his many accomplishments in his career as a pulmonologist, including many publications in medical journals. In addition, Dr. Ray invented a stethoscope that captured and analyzed lung sounds electronically to help limit the invasive nature of some hospital monitoring
systems and avoid unnecessary surgeries to improve outcomes. An avid runner, Ray completed the Boston Marathon many times. He was a member of the Greater Framingham Track Club, hosting breakfast runs, competing, and writing articles for the newsletter. He authored “If You Felt Like I Did, You’d Start Running,” a book which included practical advice and short stories about running. He then returned to swimming and competed in
the Senior Olympics, medaling in many events. Ray was genuinely interested in the community, as evidenced by his big smile and twinkling eyes upon meeting people. He loved to play the piano at the annual St Patrick’s Day parties hosted in Wellesley, inviting the whole neighborhood and always ending up with a sing-along with everyone gathered around the piano in the living room. He also took up painting, taking lessons, and making portraits of all thirteen of the grandkids. Ray was at his happiest sitting on the porch at Saltmarsh Lane and painting, while watching kids and grandkids play stickball,
swim, sail, and kayak. He led lots of dinnertime discussions that always included a life lesson. Most notable was Ray’s positive spirit which will live on in the Murphy family. He will be remembered as a thoughtful, gracious, and loving man whose matra was “Positive thoughts
only!”. His enthusiasm, humor, and quick wit will be greatly missed. Ray leaves behind his loving wife Margaret Allen Murphy of Chestnut Hill & Wareham MA; son Raymond Murphy of Falmouth MA, his wife Janet, grandchildren Meghan, Erin, and Caitlyn Murphy; daughter Ann Postell of Roseville CA, grandchildren Ken, Erica & Matthew Postell; son Michael Murphy of New York City; daughter Maureen Olsen of Medfield MA her husband Doug, grandchildren Maggie Olsen, Anya Olsen-Brunot & her husband Michael; daughter Alice Murphy of Wellesley MA & Warren VT, her husband Phil Stathos, grandchildren Nicholas, Cameron & Alexander Stathos; son Matthew Murphy of Hingham & Mattapoisett MA, his wife Jennifer, and grandchildren Christopher & Catherine Murphy; and his brother T. Jefferson Murphy, JD and his wife Brenda of Kalamazoo, MI. He is predeceased by his sisters Alice
Murphy and Kathleen Mortlock, and brothers James Harrington Murphy, and Donal Murphy.

Inez Moore - January 21, 1945 - February 24, 2024

Departed: 02/24/2024 (Wellesley Hills)
Obituary Preview: Inez Walsh Moore of Scituate, formerly of Wellesley, daughter of the late E. Corbett Walsh and Norinne (Feeny) Walsh, wife of her beloved husband, Thomas W. Moore, answered God’s call on February 24th in Jupiter Florida. She was surrounded by her devoted husband, six children, younger sister, nephew and close friends.
Inez leaves her children: Thomas W. Jr., Jefferson Corbett, Nicole Roman (Derek), Martina Cravedi, Quentin (Kimberly) and Marya (Shannon Bergh); sixteen grandchildren: Jefferson, Jack, Brendan, Andrew, Tommy, Todd, George, Marcus, Derek, Calvin, Norine, Jameson, Quentin, Logan, Charlotte, and Cole; her siblings Bonnie Stoloski (William), Quentin Walsh (Randi), Toni Curry (Brian), 13 nieces and nephews and her furry favorites Jaxon and Aho.
Inez is predeceased by her twin boys, Timothy and Robert, and brothers E. Corbett Walsh SJ., Robert (Robo) and Thomas (Tucker) Walsh.
“What a glorious day!”. Inez’s mantra as she walked to her favorite “piece of heaven on earth”, Minot Beach. Securing her spot “at the opening”, her toes in the sand and surrounded by family, especially her sixteen grandchildren, she was content. Her day was complete when at the stroke of five Tom arrived with her vodka and tonic in hand. It would be after sunset before Nez would stroll home. “Moore Manor” was invariably filled with family, friends, and friends of friends, who would share her incredible meals and warm hospitality. Even if you entered as a stranger, you left with a bear hug, a smile and an open invitation to return.
When seasons changed, Nez could be found on a field, or at the rink cheering on her grandchildren, tailgating with Tom at Holy Cross, supporting the Ursuline community or just enjoying a good card game with friends. She was a card shark, the Wheel of Fortune wizard and the Rummy Tile queen. Nez seldom answered calls or emails, she was too busy living life. She loved seeing the world and going on adventures, but her favorite places will always be Juno Beach and Bermuda, surrounded by her family and friends.
If there was a need, there was Nez, showing up with a meal, a warm hug, her huge smile and always a prayer. She will be deeply missed. When we reminisce about the things she used to say,
we miss her and think she is so far away. We remember what she gave lives on through us,
and one day we’ll see her on the sandy shore at dusk.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday March 4th, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Rd in Wellesley Hills. Visiting hours are 2-6pm on Sunday March 3rd at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St. Wellesley Hills.

Richard W. Ulbrich - April 06, 1941 - January 12, 2024

Departed: 01/12/2024 (Wellesley Hills)
Obituary Preview: Age 82, of Weston, MA passed away on January 12, 2024 at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer with the love of his life, Dede (Herlihy) Ulbrich, by his side.
Dick or “Doc”, as he was known to family and friends, lived his life with the gusto and grit characteristic of the German heritage of which he was so proud. Born in Boston, MA to immigrant parents, Dick was too humble to speak even to his family about his many achievements. After graduating from Wellesley High School in 1959 and Trinity College in 1963, he entered the Navy from 1964 to 1968, serving on the U.S.S. Providence. He later graduated from University of Pennsylvania dental school.
Dick moved back to Wellesley after dental school and worked for an orthodontic practice until he eventually bought that practice and made it his own. He practiced “tough love” with his patients and their parents like they were his own kids because he wanted them to succeed. He loved his career, but most of all, Dick loved and appreciated his staff that to this day, are considered part of his extended family.
Outside of work, Dick valued his family and friends above all else. He was a devoted father to his two daughters as well as his stepchildren. He taught them by example to love with a full heart, persevere through tough times and be of service to others. His girls knew that if he asked them to “go for a ride in the truck to Lechmere” that they were in big trouble. He loved cooking all of the German family recipes at holiday time, especially spaetzle and red cabbage.
He was a loving husband who became his best self after meeting and later marrying his best friend and wife, Dede. After years of living (happily) in sin, she made him an honest man in 2006. The two of them spent years running road races and then traveling throughout the United States and to Hawaii, competing in canoe and outrigger races. In his 60’s Dick was still competing in the 70-mile General Clinton regatta in upstate New York.
He had a network of friends that was the envy of everyone. He could be found on any given morning sitting in a booth with lifelong friends at the Maugus restaurant in Wellesley. He had a group of friends through his hobbies, which included road racing, paddling and woodworking.
He was a nothing short of a masterful wood carver who made gifts of love that can be found on fireplace mantels, garages and walls of friends and family everywhere. His life extended to East Falmouth, MA, where he enjoyed summer days sitting on the deck overlooking Green Pond and visiting with family on Davisville Road.
Dick gave his time and love to those in need. Whether serving as a sponsor for people on their journey in recovery or caring for his elderly mother or a friend, he took care of others. Dick spent years in his family house on Emerson Road in Wellesley, offering temporary housing to his friends when they were in the “dog house” with their wives. He later built his dream post and beam style home with Dede in Weston where everyone was welcome (as long as they didn’t wear heels or bring dogs that might scratch the wood floors). Most days he could be found carving wood in the barn by the wood stove. This was his happy place.
We are eternally grateful for the medical teams at Dana Farber and Mass General Cancer Centers, especially Dr. Austin Kim, Dr. John Yang and Dr. Theodore Hong. The doctors and nurses that cared for Dick through his battle with cancer are true angels in disguise. In his last days, the family was blessed to have the team from Good Shepherd Hospice helping care for Dick.

Dr. Michele B. Wagner - June 13, 1948 - November 07, 2023

Departed: 11/07/2023 (Wellesley Hills)
Obituary Preview: Dr. Michele B. Wagner, retired Emergency Physician from Newton, died November 7, 2023 at a hospice house in Wayland. She was 75. Until a disabling nerve injury forced her retirement in early 2002, Dr. Wagner served in the Emergency Department of Boston's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Previously she was a residency director at the Medical College of Georgia.
Intelligent, curious, disciplined and highly educated, Dr. Wagner loved learning and teaching throughout her life. In addition to medicine and all sciences, her interests included nature and wildlife, economics, French and English literature, world history and cultures, U.S. Politics, climate and change and human brain research. Always, she was fiercely determined to teach whatever she had learned to other people.
Dr. Wagner was born in Totton, England, June 13, 1948. Her English father, Leonard R. Betts, was an aircraft mechanic. Her French mother Madeleine (Quintainne) Betts, had been a school teacher in Normandy throughout World War II. An only child, Michele grew up in England, France, Switzerland and Bermuda. Her parents were separated before Michele and her mother moved to Canada about 1956. A serious student, Michele excelled at a girls' boarding school and the University of Ottawa, then graduated from the University of Illinois. She continued graduate studies in economics at the University of Maryland and taught college courses for a couple of years.
Deciding to change careers, Dr. Wagner moved to France to study medicine. In 1980, halfway through the medical college in Rouen, she married James R. Wagner, then a Washington DC journalist. The couple lived in Rouen for three years while she completed her medical degree. Dr. Wagner served her residency in emergency medicine (1984-87) at the Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, OH. She became a U.S. Citizen in 1987.
Recruited by the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, the state's only public medical school, Dr. Wagner was charged with establishing a residency in emergency medicine. She achieved that in a record time and became Residency Director. Beginning with seven residents, that program has thrived more than three decades and currently graduates 14 emergency physicians annually. After seven years in Augusta, Dr. Wagner in 1995 joined the emergency medicine faculty at Beth Israel Hospital (now BIDMC). She served in that department six and a half years.
In November 2001, Dr. Wagner suffered a severely broken ankle while hiking. The nerve damage caused a rare chronic pain condition called complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). Permanently disabled, Dr. Wagner had to end her medical career at the age of 53. Continuous pain in her ankle and leg led to many neurological and physical complications throughout 22 years. Dr. Wagner had limited mobility but continued some social activities and her drive to learn and teach until the last months of her life. The Wagners lived in Newton Lower Falls beginning in 1997.
Dr. Wagner is survived by her husband, James R. Wagner, sister-in-law, Audrey W. Elam of Oak Ridge, TN, two nieces and three nephews.
Dr. Wagner's husband and friends will receive visitors from 3-6PM, Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington Street, Wellesley Hills. The Rev. Kari Jo Verhulst will lead a Memorial Service at 1pm Friday November 17 at the Lutheran Church of the Newtons, 1310 Centre Street, Newton followed by a reception. Donations in Dr. Michele B. Wagner's memory may be made to her favorite charity, Doctors Without Borders at www.doctorswithoutborders.org or to a favorite charity of one's choice.
