Thomas A. Yost - May 10, 1967 - September 28, 2021

Departed: 09/28/2021 (Carnegie)
Obituary Preview: Age 54, of Scott Township, passed away due to complications of COVID on September 28, 2021.
Tom was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 10, 1967 to Donald E. and Janet E. (McIlroy) Yost.  He was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. “Chippie” Yost.  He leaves behind his loving family, best friend and loving wife of 20 years, Louise C. (Bolea).  They were together for 24 years.  He also leaves behind his beloved sons Russell (Michelle) Seech, Brian (Pam) Seech and Michael (Kristine) Seech, his mother Janet E., brothers Donn (Kathie), Dale (Laurie), and sister Pam (Eric) Lawlor.  He is grandfather to Eli, Zac and Violet Rose Seech.  He is also survived by his black lab, Koda, many nieces and nephews and many, many friends near and far.
Tom was a Marine at heart and although he did not serve, he loved his country, its flag and eagles, and honored all veterans of war.  This was his father’s influence as a Marine veteran.  Tom belonged to the American Legion Post 82 in Carnegie, and was Commander of the Sons of the American Legion there for many years after reviving that organization.  He was responsible for bringing the Legion Riders to Post 82 and was a proud member of it.  He was a member of the Patriot Riders with whom he rode in honor of many veterans on their last journey to their final resting place, and the Vietnam Veterans organization.  He was an amazing carpenter for UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for 32 years, most recently as the lead carpenter.  He was an avid fisherman and loved nothing more than casting out and enjoying the peacefulness of the day and the best friendship with his fellow fisherman, Tom O’Rourke.  He loved to camp with Louise and the O’Rourke family and spent many a night around a campfire.  He loved his dogs and will be reunited with all who are waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge.
To say that Tom will be missed by all who knew him is an understatement.  He was all heart, the biggest and kindest of all of us.  He would do anything for anybody.  Tom had a nickname for all and loved to be called by his nickname “Yosty”.  He was also stubborn and imperfect like all of us and we loved him for it.
Funeral services will be on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the Henney, Bradwell and Nirella Funeral Home at 524 Washington Avenue in Carnegie.  Viewing will be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, with a short memorial service at 7:30 pm.  Jeans are appropriate.  All are welcome, but given the circumstances of his death and out of respect for the family, please wear a mask inside the funeral home and practice social distancing.
Rest in peace Tom.  There is a huge hole in our hearts without you here.  Forever loved.
Grief never ends.....but it changes.
It's a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness,
Nor a lack of faith....
It is the price of love.

Frank E. Herman - May 18, 1947 - August 07, 2021

Departed: 08/07/2021 (Carnegie)
Obituary Preview: Today the world lost a wonderful individual - Father, husband, and friend But heaven gained a blessing Frank Herman went home by God's wishes on the morning of Saturday August 7th, 2021 While the cancer eventually took his body and brain, his family surrounded him with love that bolstered his spirit. Even at an early age, Frank believed in America and that it was the land of opportunities which guided him to join the Marines, start several businesses and eventually move his family to a farm in Clinton, PA. During his 74 years he accomplished so much: going directly from high school graduation into the Marines for four years. Serving as a Sergeant in Vietnam and then a DI at Camp Lejune, training many to serve their country too. For 37 years he was employed by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette circulation.  Frank also established a tavern in his hometown and provided many apartments there too. Never being selfish and always wanting a large family, Frank and Marilyn adopted four children from Korea, fostered two other children and had a son of their own. For many years he operated a family restaurant, bakery, antique shop, and western tack and clothing store in Clinton, PA while also maintaining his farms.   Riding horses was his passion.  During a ride through Clinton Park he envisioned a Christmas event there, thus the Findlay Christmas Light-Up Celebration was started over 27 years ago.  Hundreds of thousands of dollars went to the needy via this event.  The Findlay Christmas Light-Up Celebration has become a family tradition for many and has made Clinton, PA a special destination for all to enjoy.   Words cannot say how deeply he will be missed but God needed him. May his light shine down on us from his special place in Heaven. **************IN LIEU OF ANY FLOWERS OR GIFTS FOR THE FAMILY,  WE ASK THAT YOU DONATE IN FRANK HERMAN'S NAME TO YOUR OWN FAVORITE CHARITY THAT IS FOCUSED ON HELPING CHILDREN OR ANIMALS SINCE THEY WERE ALWAYS NEAR AND DEAR TO FRANK'S HEART.*************************

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It is usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who need to know about the passing. They can also help to notify people who may not have been aware of the person's illness or death.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, an obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral services, memorial donations, and other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Typically, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be more suitable for online platforms or memorial websites.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to personalize the tribute and help readers connect with the person who has passed away.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

You can usually submit an obituary to a newspaper by emailing or faxing it to their obituary department. Be sure to check their specific guidelines and deadlines for submission.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, many people choose to write their own obituaries in advance as a way to take control of how they want to be remembered. This can also be a therapeutic exercise in reflecting on one's life and accomplishments.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, typically including only the most basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that celebrates the person's life and achievements.

Can I include humorous or lighthearted elements in an obituary?

Absolutely! While an obituary should be respectful, it's also okay to inject some humor or personality into the tribute. This can help capture the essence of the person who has passed away and make the obituary more engaging to read.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication or platform. Some newspapers may charge by the word or line, while others may offer package deals or discounts for online publication.

Can I edit or revise an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's difficult or impossible to make changes to an obituary once it's been published in print. However, online platforms may allow you to edit or update the obituary at any time.

What if I'm not satisfied with the way an obituary is written or published?

If you're unhappy with the final product, try speaking with the publication or writer directly to express your concerns. They may be willing to make revisions or corrections.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Yes! Including meaningful quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and personalization to an obituary. Just be sure to verify copyright permissions if necessary.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication's schedule and deadlines. Online platforms may publish immediately, while print newspapers may take several days or weeks.

Can I request corrections or changes after an obituary has been published?

If you notice errors or inaccuracies in an already-published obituary, contact the publication or writer as soon as possible to request corrections. They may be able to issue a correction or reprint.

What if I want to publish an obituary in multiple newspapers or platforms?

You can certainly publish an obituary in multiple places, but be prepared for additional costs and potential variations in formatting or content.

Can I include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in an obituary?

Absolutely! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a good cause.

How do I handle sensitive or private information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive or private aspects of the person's life that you'd rather not share publicly, it's okay to omit them from the obituary. Focus on celebrating their life and achievements in a respectful manner.

Can I include information about pets in an obituary?

Yes! Many people consider their pets to be part of their family, so it's perfectly fine to mention them in an obituary if desired.

What if I'm unsure about what information to include in an obituary?

If you're struggling with what to include or how to write an obituary, consider consulting with a funeral home director, grief counselor, or professional writer for guidance and support.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Absolutely! Social media can be a powerful tool for sharing news of a loved one's passing and connecting with others who are grieving. You can share a link to the online obituary or post a summary with relevant details.

How long will an online obituary remain available?

The duration for which an online obituary remains available varies depending on the platform or website. Some may keep them archived indefinitely, while others may remove them after a certain period of time.

Can I create a memorial website or online tribute instead of a traditional obituary?

Yes! Memorial websites and online tributes offer a flexible and interactive way to celebrate someone's life and share memories with others. They can also remain available for years to come.

What if I'm overwhelmed by grief and don't feel like writing an obituary right now?

Totally understandable! Writing an obituary can be a daunting task during a difficult time. Consider enlisting the help of a trusted friend or family member, or seeking guidance from a funeral home director or grief counselor.
