Obituary Preview: Mr. Robert Walter Moore, Sr., made his transition to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loved ones at Methodist Germantown Hospital in Germantown, TN on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. He was born in Greenwood, MS on January 13, 1956 to the late Mr. John Henry Moore and Mrs. Sarah Parker Moore. He was the youngest of six children.
Robert confessed his faith in Christ at an early age at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Greenwood, Mississippi and later united with St. Augustine Catholic Church in Memphis, Tennessee.
Robert graduated from Greenwood High School, Greenwood, Mississippi, Class of 1974. He graduated from Mississippi Valley State University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, where he was a baseball player in high school and college. He received his Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Trevecca Nazarene University, Nashville, Tennessee. Robert was an educator with Memphis City Shelby County Schools for 34 years until his retirement in 2012.
Robert, affectionately known as “Coach Moore” by faculty, staff and students, coached Football, Baseball, Softball, Track, and Golf. Coach Moore coached both Boys and Girls Basketball. Under the leadership of Coach Moore the Fairview Junior High School Boys Basketball team, the Trojans and the Girls Basketball team, the Lady Trojans won the City of Memphis 2003-2004 MIAA Overall Championship.
Robert enjoyed playing golf, especially at Thanksgiving, listening to all genres of music, spending time with his grandchildren, and the family pet.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie Williams Moore, children, grandchildren, other family and friends and many former students who loved him.
