Obituary Preview: Quarryville - Britt M. (Lundin) Kerns, 90, formerly of York, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late Dr. Robert L. Kerns.
Britt was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on April 11, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Alvar and Ingeborg (Johansson) Lundin. She immigrated to the United States in 1963.
Britt was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in York, where she was a longtime Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, knitting, and caring for animals. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Britt’s middle child, David, was born with Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, and became her life’s purpose. She lovingly cared for him at home until the death of her husband in 2004 and advocated for him every day until his passing in 2021.
Britt leaves a son, Thomas R. Kerns of York; a daughter, Anne K. Harnish and her husband Chad of Strasburg; and five grandchildren, Emily, Aaron, and Anna Kerns, and Adam and Georgia Harnish. She was preceded in death by a son, David Kerns.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Greenmount Cemetery, 721 Carlisle Ave. in York. Pastor Gregory D. Wahlberg will be officiating at the service. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Obituary Preview: YORK - Julia Ann Dempwolf, 87, of Springettsbury Township, York, daughter of the late Carvel and Julia Gibbs, died early Saturday morning, April 27, 2024.
Julia was born July 5, 1936, at the York Hospital. She graduated from York High in 1954. She married Newton Brown, and one son, David Brown, was born of that marriage. Later in life, she was married to Richard Schwartz and later to John Dempwolf. For the majority of her working life, she was a devoted medical assistant to Bradley Nicholas, MD. Julie enjoyed vacationing at the beach, Fenwick Island, Delaware, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. She enjoyed collecting Muffy VanderBears and Christopher Radko Christmas ornaments. Late in life, as her eyesight was failing, shopping on QVC was a favorite pastime.
Julia is survived by her brother Paul Gibbs (Deborah) and a sister Kathy Katherman (Elliot), as well as her son, David (Patsy). She had one grandson, Adam Brown (Mandy) and four great-grandchildren, namely, Noah, Hailey, Dylan, and Leah. She was blessed with a large extended family and was beloved by her many nieces and nephews, namely, Amy Hall, Abby Long, Bryan Katherman, Aaron Katherman, Laura Katherman, Taylor Katherman, Jonathan Gibbs, Justin Gibbs, and Brady Gibbs.

Obituary Preview: SPRING GROVE – Kenneth M. Boose, Sr., 60, passed away April 24, 2024 at St. Agnes Hospital in Maryland. He was the husband of Angela R. (Grove) Boose to whom he was married for over 20 years.
Born November 5, 1963 in Gettysburg, he was a son of Daniel and Betty (Little) Boose. After graduating high school, Mr. Boose joined the US Air Force in 1981. After serving our country, he went on to work for Crane 1 Services for over twenty years and Freeland Hoist & Crane, Inc. for five years where he worked as a supervisor. In his earlier days, Kenneth was passionate about racing. Even now, he enjoyed working on cars. He is remembered as being involved in his son’s sports and always helping other people. He was selfless and couldn’t say no.
In addition to his wife, Angela, he is survived by two sons, Chance Boose and Kenneth M. Boose, Jr.; a brother, Ronald Boose; and a sister Mary Holtzapple.

A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at Manchester Assembly of God on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 7:00 PM. There will be a visitation at the church prior from 6-7:00 PM. Rev. Thomas A. Born December 1, 1944, in York, he was a son of the late Sterling Sr. and Pauline (Hollinger) Simmons. After graduating from trade school, Sterling became a tool and die maker, where he worked for FCI, later retiring in 1998. After his retirement, Sterl worked at Lowe’s for some time. Outside of work, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, drinking beer and woodworking. When woodworking, he found pleasure in making wooden piggy banks. Most of all, he loved his great-grandchildren. They were his world.
Sterling is survived by his brother, Ronald Simmons; two children, Craig Simmons and his wife Debra, Jessica Eyler and her husband Anthony, four grandchildren; Kacey Smallwood, Brys, Brianna and Seth Eyler; and four great-grandchildren, Kylie, Zalen, Ashton and Lorelie. Obituary Preview: DOVER—Harry T. “Tom” Sease Jr., 79, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Hummelstown. He was the husband of Barbara J. (Costella) Sease to whom he was married for 55 years.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 PM Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York. Officiating the service will be Certified Celebrant Amy Favorito. A viewing will be held from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
Born May 19, 1944 in Gettysburg, he was the son of the late Harry T. Sease Sr., and Alta M. (Rickard) Sease.
He was employed as a Service Manager with Shipley Energy for 34 years and also volunteered with the York City Fire Department for 21 years, serving as Captain for numerous years until his retirement in 1990.
A United States Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War, he was also a member of Gettysburg American Legion, Gettysburg VFW, where he served on their honor guard detail and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles – Gettysburg. He served as secretary-treasurer for the Foremans, Presidents, and Fire Chiefs Association. An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed spending time at his cabin near the Michaux State Forest. He loved music, and you would often times find him at family gatherings playing his guitar and singing. However, what he cherished most of all was spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Sease is also survived by two daughters, Beth A. Hoffman and her husband, David of Kutztown and Holly M. Kimbrell and her husband, Bill of Dover; four grandchildren, Rhianna and Emily Eveland and Hunter and Vivian Kimbrell; former son-in-law, James Eveland and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Murtoff.

In addition to his parents, Justin is also survived by sister, Nicole A. Blazek and her husband, Ben; his grandmother, Verna Poe; his great grandmother, Alma Swartz; two nephews, Dean Blazek and Coen Espenshade; one niece, McKenzie Espenshade and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Justin is at peace now, after a long battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Born January 10, 1967 in Reading, a son of Ruth Maryetta (Shaw) Zentgraf and her husband Frederick Zentgraf, Sr. of Reading and the late Glenn Kerry Newcomb. Pissy was a member of The Hawks Club and Pleasureville American Legion. He loved riding his Harley Davidson and helping with motorcycle charity rides, particularly the Jana Manning Ride in June. Kerry also enjoyed following NASCAR with the #5 cars of Terry Labonte and Kyle Larson being his favorite.
In addition to his wife, mother and stepfather, Kerry is survived by three sons, Trevor Rodgers of York, Zachary and wife Katie Rodgers of Mechanicsburg, and Shawn and wife Brittany Blauser of York; two daughters, Kayla Rodgers and companion Brandon of Yorkanna and Kati Blauser of Dallastown; ten grandchildren, Jayson, William, Leighton, Colten, Peyton, Bryce, BrynLee, Lyrik, Phoebe, and Cooper; two brothers, Mark and wife Christin Newcomb of Reading and Frederick Zentgraf, Jr. and wife Amy of Hanover; a sister, Sommer and husband Patrick Cope of Alburtis, Lehigh Co.; and three nieces, Olivia, Finley, and Avie.

Obituary Preview: JoAnne Louise (Hauer) Knott, age 85 passed away April, 7, 2024. She was the wife of Gary L. Knott, to whom she had been married for 62 years.
JoAnne was born October 27, 1938, in York, PA. She was the daughter of the late Thurlow and Viola (Spangler) Hauer.
She graduated in 1956 from Central York High School. Her hobbies were roller skating and dancing with her husband. She enjoyed cards in her girl’s card club.
JoAnne volunteered for the American Cancer Society for 30 years. She was a coordinator and driver in the “Road to Recovery” program taking patients to radiation and chemotherapy appointments. She was also a member of the American Cancer Society Auxiliary Board and helped with Daffodil Days many years.
She also, along with her husband, volunteered for the Multiple Sclerosis Walk for 25 years.
JoAnne is survived by two children. A son Troy L. Knott and his wife Donna of York, and a daughter Jane L. (Knott) Concino and her husband Dave of Hanover. JoAnne and Gary never missed a sporting event or activity in which their children participated.
She is also survived by her granddaughter Alesia (Knott) Duffee and her husband Michael, two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Liliana Duffee of Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Gene L. Hauer and sister-in-law Vivian, and her sister Shirley A. Smith.
JoAnne was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in York. She and her husband enjoyed going to West York High School sporting events, especially the West York Girls Basketball and Volleyball games. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She absolutely adored her family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mike Wilson, who provided attentive and compassionate care to JoAnne throughout the past several years. We would also like to thank Dr. Dan Sotirescu and Katilin Gibson and the rest of the Cancer Care Associates of York team for the care that was provided during her battle with AML. The staff at Country Meadows in Shiloh has been a blessing to our entire family and we are thankful for their loving care. Finally, thank you to LifeSong Hospice for the wonderful care and support provided the last week of JoAnne’s life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Zion United Methodist Church, 1030 Carlisle Road, York, PA 17408. Visitation will be held before the service at 10:00 AM. Lynn is survived by two sisters, Phyllis Koster and her husband, Robert Oughton of York and Joan Roth of St. Augustine, FL; and her brother, Richard Koster and his wife, Holly of Dover. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jessica White.

Nancy was born in Johnstown PA on August 29, 1934, a daughter of the late Harry and Adelaine (Gavura) Bothwell. She retired from Met Life Insurance Company, where she was a compensation clerk for 22 years in Johnstown. Prior to that she worked as an office clerk at Woolworth’s in Westmont PA.
Nancy was a 1953 graduate of Johnstown High School. She had a love for animals, gardening and baking for her family. She bowled in a league and most of all loved spending time with her family.
Nancy leaves a son, Forrest H. Breakey and his wife Deborah of Garner, NC; two daughters, Angela L. Senft of York and Karen I. Nugent and her husband Evan of York; nine grandchildren, Michael Balon, Apryl Balon, Joshua Nugent, Stephen Breakey, Matthew Nugent, Amanda Breakey, Chris Nugent, Jason Smith, and Katie Nugent, as well as 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elaine Mazzarese and Hilda Jansson.

Born July 28, 1944 in Philipsburg, he was a son of the late John William II and Ellen Marie (Hussier) Holt. After graduating high school, Mr. Holt began welding school where he learned the trade. He was a welder with BAE Systems for 37 years until his retirement.
Outside of work, Thomas was a prior member of York Motorcycle Club, enjoyed riding his own motorcycle, loved his antique 1974 Corvette Stingray, appreciated traveling to nursing homes to bring joy to the residents with his therapy dog Caprice, adored going on walks with his beloved wife, enjoyed playing different card games and board games, and liked to go hunting for deer.
In addition to his wife, Frances, he is survived by two step-sons, Gerrett Finke and his wife Vicki Karandrikas and Anthony Finke and his wife Jessica; two step-grandchildren, Anna and Blaine Finke; a brother John William Holt III; and a sister, Ellen Moon. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. They were his world.

Bob was born May 14, 1927 in Johnstown, PA, son of the late Luther Paul and Helen Agnes (Hershberger) Claycomb.
Bob graduated from Westmont / Upper Yoder Twp. High School, Johnstown PA, in 1945. He served as a Corporal in the US Air Force during World War II, and then went on to Juniata College where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1950. He was employed by both Bethlehem Steel and US Steel, in Johnstown, until being transferred to New York City where he worked as an accountant at General Public Utilities for more than 35 years.
He is survived by three children: David and wife Joyce, Solana Beach, CA, Mark and wife Elizabeth, Pacifica, CA and Susan and husband Marty, Ashburn, VA. Bob had eight grandchildren: Kyle and Aaron Claycomb, Danica Golden, Natalie and Olivia Foy-Claycomb, Robert, Timothy, and Ryan Eisnaugle, and one great-granddaughter Ava Eisnaugle. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Janet P. Batdorf.
Bob was a 40-year member of Morrow Memorial United Methodist Church, Maplewood NJ where he taught Sunday School and was Treasurer of the Trustee Board for 22 years. He was a member of the Maplewood Glee Club, Kiwanis Club, Youth Employment Service and was a volunteer with LSS Sprenkle Village in York, PA. He had also been a member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in York.
A private graveside service will be held at the New Bloomfield Cemetery, New Bloomfield, PA, at a later date. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., York, PA is assisting with arrangements.

Born on March 5, 1947 in York, he was a son of the late Allan E. and Mary Catherine (Boll) Duffey, Jr. Allan was a 1965 graduate of York Catholic High School. He was a firefighter with the York City Fire Department for 32 years until his retirement. He also owned and operated A E Duffey Racing Engines.
Mr. Duffey served our country for three years and nine months in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Allan was a member of the York County Garageman's Association, Vigilant Social Club and York County Racing Club. He enjoyed race cars and building racing engines.

Gerry started work in the accounting department at New York Wire then was employed at West York School District as a teacher’s aide and finally at Hess’s Department Store as a manager in the China Department.
Mrs. Funkhouser was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and most recently at Shiloh U.C.C. She was president of her West York High School Class of 1952 and a member of the York Hospital Fete Committee.
Along with her husband, Hobart, Gerry is survived by two sons, David B. Funkhouser and his wife, Julie L. Wambaugh of Salt Lake City, UT and Brian S. Funkhouser and his wife, Peg of Dover; three grandchildren, Kevin Funkhouser and his wife, Kelly of Glastonbury, CT, Emily Kramer and her husband, Tom of York and Ann Hied and her husband, Chris of Shrewsbury; and five great grandchildren, Ryan Kramer, Andrew Kramer, Bryson Hied, Eleanor Hied and Madison Hied.

Obituary Preview: YORK-Domenick Donald Ortuglio, 86 of York Township, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024 at York Hospital. He was born in Greensburg, PA in 1938, the son of the late Alphonso M. and Rose (Vesco) Ortuglio.
Upon his graduation from Greensburg High School in 1956, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps with his high school buddies and spent his time at Camp Lejeune before leaving the service with a rank of Sergeant in 1961.
He met his wife of 59 years, Eileen Dramel, shortly thereafter, completed his accounting degree at Penn State University, got married, and moved to York in 1965.
He worked at several local accounting firms before joining Dallco Industries and retired as the Chief Financial Officer. Don was an avid Steelers fan, Porsche enthusiast (he owned several throughout his lifetime), and enjoyed trips to the Jersey shore and other far-flung locations with the Dallco Industries “Fun Bunch.”
He adored his family, especially his daughter Karin (Jack) of Mechanicsville, MD and son Kevin (Nikki) of Lutherville, MD, along with his grandchildren Helen, Taft, Grayson, and Addison. They would spend hours playing dominoes, cards, and shooting pool. His sense of humor and matter of fact way of looking at life kept everyone either laughing or rolling their eyes.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 251 E. Main Street in Dallastown, with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. The service will be webcast live at HeffnerCare.com and can be viewed by searching Domenick’s obituary. His pastor, The Reverend Mark E. Weiss will be officiating at the service. Burial of the cremated remains will be the same day at 2 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors.
