Leonard Guzman - January 15, 1957 - March 18, 2024

Departed: 03/18/2024 (San Antonio)
Obituary Preview: From an early age, Leonard Guzman knew his life’s path would involve animals, guns, and the outdoors. It was no surprise to his family when he found his way into law enforcement.
The recently re-elected Wilson County Precinct 1 Constable died March 18 after a massive heart attack. Born in San Antonio, Leonard attended Luther Burbank High School, where he participated in the agricultural program and spent hours on the acreage affectionately called “the farm.”
In 1976, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Holguin, and they built a life with their two daughters, Debra and Stephanie, that took them from San Antonio to Wichita Falls and eventually to Floresville.
A newly-licensed peace officer, he began working as a reserve constable for Bexar County in 1981. His career with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission began in July 1989 when the family moved to Wichita Falls for his new assignment.
During their five years there, he became an ever-present figure at the girls’ school, dedicating his early-morning routines to prepping lunches with cut-out sandwiches and other special treats. He also spent several years as a volunteer soccer and volleyball coach for their teams.
The family moved back to San Antonio in 1994, when Guzman was transferred to the San Antonio District Office. During his time with TABC, he worked undercover and collaborated with other agencies to combat the issues of narcotics, gambling, prostitution, and human trafficking. In addition, he presented alcohol awareness programs to students from grades 4th to 12th and was involved in Project S.A.V.E. for seven years.
He eventually was transferred to the Floresville Outpost in September 2004. He also was a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Master Police Officer and Instructor Certification and served as a TCLEOSE firearms instructor.
An avid hunter, he made yearly hunting trips with underprivileged children in the Wichita Falls area. He and Pat enjoyed traveling, and their favorite place was Deadwood, South Dakota. He also had close relationships with his daughters. He loved hunting and watching football with Debra, and Las Vegas trips and having drinks with Stephanie.
Guzman retired from TABC with the rank of Senior Agent in 2011, after 22 years with the agency, but did not slow down. He served as a board member of Oak Hills Water Supply. In addition, he spent many years catering to and spoiling his beloved four-legged family members. Most recently, his canine companion was Ms. Pickles, a 12-year-old golden retriever for whom he loved cooking breakfast every morning.
In 2020, he was first elected to the Wilson County post, which he loved as it allowed him to continue to serve his neighbors and the Floresville community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Angie and Salvador Guzman; and sister, Debbie. He is survived by his wife, Pat; daughters, Debra (Brian) Fletcher of Iredell; and Stephanie (Robert) Dominguez of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Alexis Leigh, Wyatt Leonard, Aria Nicole, and Abigail Rain; in addition, he is survived by his older sisters, Esther Guzman and Edna Jean Guzman (Larry) Avila of San Antonio; and nieces and nephews and cousins.

known for feeding the neighborhood strays...at the empty house across the street. As a child, Rebecca and her family moved to Laredo, Texas. She entered the workforce and worked for the Laredo Junior College Library. As a single mother with five children, she moved to San Antonio. Brad was reserved and kind with a quiet depth and healthy sense of humor. A devoted son, Brad faithfully served in church throughout his life, dedicating time and effort to supporting his beloved parents in ministry. Brad was an avid reader, music lover, and movie-goer. Sci-fi and fantasy were at the tops of his list, and he loved to analyze art and media of all kinds and talk about the deeper meaning behind it all. His thoughtfulness and love of knowledge and learning spilled over into all aspects of his life. He taught himself how to cook delicious Chinese food that was always an event and treat for his family at the kitchen table in Klein, TX. Brad loved nature and often visited Tennwood Country Club to take his daughters fishing and golf with friends. He also loved heading out to the hill country with the girls in the van to relax, enjoy the river, and spot deer at night after he had spread corn for them to make sure the after-dinner adventure was a success. While he was an excellent marksman and hunter, he set aside hunting on those trips simply for the sake of the joy he shared with his daughters in watching nature together. An adventurer at heart, Brad took opportunities to fly a helicopter with friends and to go skydiving. He also satisfied his sense of adventure in playing video games and developed a love of technology and computers. His passion and technical knowledge led not only to his hobby of building computers but also a career path that allowed him to explore and build his expertise. Brad was an early adopter of computer programming, teaching himself much of what he mastered and putting it to use in Houston’s oil and gas industry. Despite the success of his career and his influence in church as a steadfast servant, Brad's proudest accomplishment was being a father and a grandfather. Just a few weeks before his death, Brad sat with his daughters, arms around each other, sharing words of love. One of Brad’s last social media posts proclaimed that love to the world with the sincerity and humility that defined his life, by saying “Daughters are pure joy to a dad’s heart.”
Brad passed peacefully due to complication from heart failure on March 2, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. His parents were able to be by his side praying with him as he stepped into eternity and the loving arms of Christ. He was the embodiment of “a good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23) He is survived by his daughters and grandchildren: Dana and her children Kane, Genevieve (Genna), and Morgan; Laura and Ryan and their children Brooke, Ethan, and Kinley; and Sara and Evan and their children Audra, Bentley, Judah, and Jonah. His parents Eugene and Linda Vacek. His sisters Angela, Amy and her husband Richard; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A memorial service is to be held at River of Praise church at 13215 Boudreaux Estates Dr, Tomball, TX 77377 on Thursday, March 21st at 5:30 pm.

Why are obituaries important?
