Arthur "Jim" J. Tucker, aged 82 years, passed away peacefully at home on April 7, 2024, following a brief but courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by the loving support of his beloved family. Although faced with this challenge, Arthur fought valiantly, as he always would, as he to continued to provide care and support for his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of near 60 years, Anne Marie (MacDonald) Tucker, who he lovingly referred to as “his girl”.

Arthur was born and raised in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, a son to the late Arthur C. and Nancy A. (Andrews) Tucker. After graduating North Sydney H.S., Arthur joined the U.S. Air Force. After Arthur’s honorable tour of duty, the young couple married and relocated to the United States. They settled in Marlborough, Massachusetts, and would remain here for over 52 years in their current home. Arthur was employed as a materials foreman within General Motors’ assembly plant in Framingham for 25 years. Upon his retirement Arthur, always one to keep busy, worked another 10 years within the custodial and maintenance department for Marlborough’s public schools.

Arthur was a longtime active member of Marlborough Fish and Game Club where he served as past vice president and was instrumental in the creation of the 3D Archery program there. Although set in his ways, friends and members of MF&G knew they could count on Arthur to step in and help. He was blessed to have Anne Marie alongside, assisting Arthur with many of the needed tasks that would arise, keeping the club moving smoothly forward for the benefit of all. Arthur was a legendary outdoorsman. While successfully enjoying one season, he would be readying himself for the next. He would be glad to share some of the many stories of excursions in search of whitetail or the best spot to fish. He looked forward to spending time with his family and enjoyed making memories during the many camping trips they would embark on. Arthur also enjoyed sports and looked forward to following the New England sports teams’ seasons.

In addition to his beloved wife Anne Marie, Arthur is survived by their two children, Roger D. Tucker of Marlborough, Heather A. Tucker and her companion Jim “Jamie” McDonald of Ossipee, New Hampshire and a grandson, Tyler Urato of Marlborough.

A time to gather and celebrate the life of Arthur will be held at a date yet to be determined, at the Marlborough Fish & Game Club, 1 Muddy Lane, Marlborough. Once a day and time is set, an announcement will be shared through an updated obituary.

Cynthia D. Hughes, affectionately known as Cyndi, passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2024, while embraced by the supportive love of her family. She was 73 years young. Cyndi was a lifelong resident of Douglas, the daughter to the late Charles and Beatrice (Stewart) Shurick. She was a graduate of Douglas High School before continuing her education at King's College. It was during this time she participated in a pen pal correspondence with a handsome soldier, Thomas E. Hughes, Jr., who was serving multiple tours in Vietnam. Unknowing at the time, Tom would become her future husband. They married in May of 1972. Inseparable as both a couple and as soulmates for nearly 54 years, Cyndi and Tom shared a profound and enduring love throughout their journey together.

Surviving Cyndi are her three daughters: Jennifer Giunta (Tony), Rachel Koopman (Jeff), and Kristin Hipp (Christopher); seven grandchildren, Anika Koopman, Aidan Giunta, Carleigh Koopman, Isla Koopman, Torynn Giunta, Kendall Hipp, and Tenley Hipp, all who were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Also surviving Cyndi is her brother Daniel Shurick (Cindy), her sister Charlene Cove (John), nieces and nephews, and the many extended family members within the Hughes family. Cyndi was preceded in death by her beloved sister Iris Towle, her brother Jeffrey Shurick, brother-in-law Paul Towle, and nephew Paul E. Towle. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she has been joyfully reunited with them in Heaven.

Cyndi looked forward to travelling. Annual excursions with Tom, Iris, and Paul to Indian Head and Cool Springs always were adventurous. Summering in the White Mountains and never missing an opportunity to see the bears at Clark’s Trading Post were highlights for her. Simple in needs, Cyndi was just as content taking a ride for an ice cream, supportively attending one of her grandchildren’s varied activities or quietly enjoying a cookout, if she was with her beloved family. These journeys were not merely vacations but a means of creating lasting memories that her family will treasure forever.

Creative in spirit, Cyndi enjoyed crafting. She lovingly made handmade flower girl and prom dresses for her daughters, Christmas stockings for each of her daughters and grandchildren and looked forward to wreath making with her girls. Her hobbies also included coloring and ceramics.

Cyndi’s passing came as the early morning sun rose, marking the first day of Spring. Her family takes comfort knowing she opened her eyes to her own new beginning in Heaven, where she was greeted by her savior Jesus Christ. Throughout her life Cyndi held true to her Baptist upbringing and unwavering beliefs. She looked forward to being reunited with her sister Iris, her mother Beatrice, family and friends who went before her, including her best friend, Maddie. Cyndi was a confidant to her daughters and friends, always offering a listening ear. She was gentle, empathetic, and wished the best for everyone. Although she will be missed, her family finds comfort knowing she was not afraid to begin her new journey and that her spirit will continue to guide and comfort them until they meet again.

Tom and the girls extend their heartfelt appreciation to Cyndi’s 5th Floor Care Team at Milford Regional Hospital and to Salmon Hospice for their skilled care of and concern for Cyndi. They also would like to acknowledge the loving support and care Irene Sorel provided Cyndi while at home and for Tom’s siblings and all other family members who visited with Cyndi during her final days.

Calling hours will be 4-6pm on Monday, March 25, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. Cyndi’s funeral will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, March 26, at Rice Memorial Baptist Church, 85 Lincoln Street, Northborough. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Douglas.
