Obituary Preview: McKinney - Janice Carol Prickett Blackstone, 84, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2022.  Funeral arrangements are under the care of Hawkins Funeral Home in Donna.
Janice Carol Prickett Blackstone passed away March 20, 2022, in McKinney, TX at the age of 84.  She was born to Jessie Cummings and Estalee (Bates) Smith on March 8, 1938, in Uvalde, TX.  Janice was a third generation Uvaldian.  In high school, Janice got acquainted with her husband, Clay of 36 years.  Together they had 4 children.  After Clay passed away in 1991, Janice got a job managing the Chamber of Commerce in Alamo, TX.  She thoroughly enjoyed her time with the chamber.  In 2005, Janice and Bob got in touch after 50 years.  They were acquaintances in high school and in 2006 they were married.  They went to the First UMC of Allen and rarely missed a service, even watching on the iPad during times she could not go in person.  Janice always kept in touch with her family.  In doing so, this kept all her family and extended family close to her even over the physical distance between them.  Janice’s family will greatly miss her sense of humor and ability to bring their spirits up when they were feeling low.  Most of all, her family will miss her personal touch she put into everything.  Her clothes, her birthday cards, her letters and so much more all had a piece of Janice to show. She is survived by her husband, William Robert “Bob” Blackstone of Fairview, TX; children: Paul Clayton (Cindy) Prickett III of Houston, TX; Piper (Herschel "Bubba") Jackson of Donna, TX; Pam Prickett of Donna, TX; Paige Prickett of Donna, TX; William Riley “Billy” (Charissa) Blackstone of San Tan Valley, AZ; Robert Timothy “Tim” (Kelly) Blackstone of Houston, TX; brother in-law: Chris (Janeal) Prickett of Odessa, TX; numerous nieces and nephews; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of other loving family and friends. Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information about their passing, such as the funeral service details. They also help to notify people who may not have been aware of the person's death.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or cremation service may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template for the family to fill out.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral service, memorial donations, and any other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a short paragraph.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and funeral home websites allow you to upload photos of the deceased. This can help to personalize the obituary and make it more meaningful to those who read it.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

You can usually submit an obituary to a newspaper by contacting their obituary department directly or through their website. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for the publication fee.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary varies depending on the newspaper or platform. Some publications may publish obituaries daily, while others may have a longer turnaround time.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to ensure that their life is celebrated and remembered in the way they want. This can also help to alleviate the burden on their loved ones during a difficult time.

What's the purpose of an online obituary guestbook?

How long do online obituaries remain available?
