Ellen M. Killoran - Unknown - March 31, 2022

Departed: 03/31/2022 (Somerset)
Obituary Preview: Ellen Margaret Killoran, 46, of Brooklyn, New York, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Born in Fall River and raised in Somerset by her parents Barbara Shott (currently of Mashpee) and John F. Killoran (of Somerset), Ellen received a Bachelor of Science in Communication from Boston University and a Master of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from The New School. Her career as a journalist began in the media and entertainment sphere, with her work appearing in Forbes, Rolling Stone, the New York Observer, Vulture, and Newsweek, among other publications; she was also formerly the Senior Editor of Media and Culture at the International Business Times. In 2016, Ellen’s investigative instincts and passion for defending the victimized and marginalized drew her to crime reporting, and she would go on to work tirelessly in her position as an editor at Crime Online until her last waking moments. In addition to her vast contributions to the written word, Ellen conducted interviews with celebrities and prominent political figures, co-produced the HBO documentary film Youth Knows No Pain, appeared in a companion documentary to the Lifetime movie Manson’s Girls, was featured as an on-camera contributor to Court TV, and lent her expertise to a number of podcasts — as both a host and a guest — in the true crime space.
Ellen’s professional zeal was a direct offshoot of her fascination with and enthusiasm for life itself: an avid thinker, seeker, and storyteller, she was unendingly interested in the world and the people in it, and that drive led her on adventures in many different states and different countries. While she called Brooklyn home for the better part of her adult life, Ellen lived for extended periods in cities as far-ranging as Boston, Los Angeles, London, and Geneva, and in recent years her growing predilection for sojourns in the peace and quiet of upstate New York had her thinking that perhaps she wouldn’t stay a “city girl” forever. Throughout her life, Ellen stood on the bleeding edge of immersion in culture and the arts — be it music, books, movies, or locales — and knew all of the good stuff way before you did (if you ever found out at all). Though her life ended mid-stride, the breadth and depth of experience that Ellen achieved will remain a high-water mark for anyone who reaches twice her age. She loved animals, and of course held a personal affinity for her own two cats (a mother-and-son pair of rescues).
In addition to her parents, Ellen is survived by her sister Katie Milewski and brother-in-law Michael Milewski of Framingham, her brother John W. Killoran and sister-in-law Michelle Killoran of Los Angeles, California, and the nephew and four nieces she adored to the point of spoiling: John Milewski and Audrey Milewski of Framingham, and Alice Killoran, Maisy Killoran, and Carlin E. Killoran of Los Angeles.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Friday, April 8, 2022 from 10am-1pm in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset.
Funeral services will begin at 1pm in the funeral home.
