Obituary Preview: Janet Louise Devilbiss Justice, age 89, of Uniontown, passed away peacefully at her home early Tuesday morning, April 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 5, 1934, in Uniontown, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Leonard and Hilda Eckard Devilbiss. She was the wife of Mac Justice, who predeceased her in 1977.
Janet is survived by her children, Teresa Hoover, Mark Justice and wife Laura, Donna Reese and husband Jack and Debra Brauning and husband Dale; stepdaughters, Sandra Lepley and husband Dennis and Linda Justice; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kay Devilbiss; one niece and two nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Caroline “Toots” Devilbiss; brothers, Robert F. Devilbiss and wife Elizabeth, Charles T. Devilbiss and Richard S. Devilbiss; and son-in-law, Bruce Hoover.
Janet was a 1952 graduate of New Windsor High School and was a member of Mt. Union Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, going on bus trips with her sister, and spending time with her family.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, May 5 from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor.

William Morrison - January 28, 1936 - April 09, 2024

Obituary Preview: William Morrison, age 88, of Thurmont, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Kline Hospice, following a lengthy illness.
Born on January 28, 1936 in Washington, DC, he was raised by his foster parents, the late Harry and Lena Howard of Montgomery County. He was the husband of Ethel May Morrison and they would have celebrated 58 years of marriage in August.
Mr. Morrison is also survived by his children, Kimberly Demarais and husband Randy, William Morrison II, and Cathy Grose and husband Jim; grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Jamie and Dustin; and great-grandchildren, Colton, Jocelyn, Lorelei and Samantha.
He served in the Army National Guard for six years, as a sharpshooter and medic. Prior to retiring, he was employed for 30 years with Universal Plastics in Rockville. He was a train enthusiast and enjoyed making birdhouses.
There will be no services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kline Hospice, Parkinson’s Foundation or Alzheimer’s Association.

Obituary Preview: Sheila Ann Wunder, age 71, of New Windsor, MD passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at her home, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born August 19, 1952 in London, England, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Bartlett and Elizabeth Rigby Bartlett-Walker. She was the caring wife of Warren E. Wunder Jr. They would have celebrated 36 years of marriage in September.
She is also survived by her children, Troy Keith and wife Debi, Alexandra S. Wunder and husband Jason Richardson; grandchildren, Ellie Wunder and David Roop III; and siblings, Teddy, Diane and Angie.
She will be remembered by her lifelong friend, Lynn Bilbo.
Sheila formerly worked as a successful rooms division manager at numerous hotels in the Baltimore area, until the birth of her daughter. She enjoyed a nice cup of tea, a riveting book and a good laugh. Always competitive in scrabble, crosswords and pinnacle! She loved flowers around her home and spending time with her husband and family.
A visitation will be held for family and friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor on Thursday, April 11 from 5 to 8 p.m.
A graveside service will be held in Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m.

Anne Maxey - January 26, 1930 - March 30, 2024

Obituary Preview: Anne Frye Maxey, age 94, of Frederick, died Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Silverado Memory Care. Born January 26,1930 in Mount Hope, WV she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Fred Frye and Edna Craft Frye and the wife of Donald Reese Maxey who died in 2015.
At age 18 she married Donald and began teaching grades 1-6 in a one room WV schoolhouse. They later moved to Boyds, MD where she worked as a quality control specialist for Solarex in addition to supporting many environmental projects.
After retirement they lived in Mt. Airy, Frostburg and Frederick. Anne loved gardening, animals, reading, and storytelling. A devoted mother and grandmother, she loved to teach and shared her joy with family and friends.
Surviving are children: Carol Gazunis, Rebecca Lorenz, John Maxey, Martha Ehlman, 8 grandchildren: Chris, Celeste, Dawn, Ryan, Paul, Dana, Justin, Hannah, and 4 great grandchildren: Jackson, Madison, Evelyn, and Elise. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter Beth, a sister, and a brother.
Inurnment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Crestwood Village Clubhouse April 27 from 2:00-4:00. Please RSVP to April@MaxeyFamily.net.

Born March 13, 1939 in Taneytown, MD she was the daughter of the late Elmer Eugene and Helen Weishaar Rippeon. She was raised by her foster parents, the late Ira and Edna Buffington.
She was the wife of David O. Smith, who predeceased her in 2009.
Lois is survived by her sons, David W. Smith of New Windsor and Douglas A. Smith and wife Vickie of New Oxford, PA; grandchildren, Melissa S. Rippeon and husband Rick, Holly M. Diakite and husband Andre, David W. Smith and partner Amanda Mullen, Kayla N. Hay and husband Joseph; great-grandchildren, Connor Rippeon, Hope and Faith Diakite, Carmen Smith; sister, Shelvia Fox of New Oxford, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a sister, Arlene Staley; and brothers, Elmer, Thomas and Wayne Rippeon.
Lois was a 1957 graduate of Elmer Wolfe High School. She was formerly employed at Cambridge Rubber Co., Taneytown and retired in 2006 from H.L. Hartz of Union Bridge and then Frederick after 40 years.
She was member of Linwood Brethren Church and the Woodsboro Seniors. She enjoyed attending yard sales, carnivals and festivals, church retreats at Rehoboth Beach, birds, and working in flower beds. Some of her most memorable times were spent the past 40 years on bus trips with friends, including the late Millie Saylor.
A visitation will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor on Friday, March 29 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Obituary Preview: Louise Elizabeth Grabill, age 95 of Johnsville, died Monday, March 18, 2024 at Sun Valley at the Meadows in Taylorsville. Born September 1, 1928 in Mt. Pleasant, she was the daughter of the late Clarence C. Burrier Sr., and Edna Houck Burrier. She was the wife of the late William “Bill” Oscar Grabill Jr. who died in 2018.
She was a graduate of Elmer Wolfe High School. Prior to her retirement, she and her husband were lifelong dairy farmers and for many years she hung wallpaper with her friend, Elsie Moore. She was a member of the Johnsville United Methodist Church, where she spent many hours in the church kitchen helping the women’s group. She enjoyed swimming, playing dominoes, butchering, picnics and family gatherings.
Surviving are her sisters-in-law Helen Burrier of Detour and Sylvia Burrier of Johnsville. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers and sister-in-laws, Clifford, Norman (Anna), Paul, Calvin (Shirley) and Sterling Burrier.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service 11 a.m. at Johnsville United Methodist Church, 11006 Green Valley Rd., Union Bridge with Pastor Shari McCourt, her pastor officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Elizabeth Mae “Libby” Long, age 83, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to many passed away at Gettysburg Hospital on Monday, March 18, 2024 after a very short illness.
Born on September 19, 1940, at home on the family farm, she was the daughter of the late Anna Mae and Harvey Clayton Colson.
Libby attended New Windsor High School where she resided for many years. She then moved to Westminster, MD, Hanover, PA, Kissimmee, FL and then back to Hanover, and lastly St. Joseph Village, McSherrystown, PA.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling, watching NASCAR and most of all camping with family and friends. Libby also enjoyed her many pets and never met a pet she didn’t love. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she decorated every room in her home.
In her early years, Libby worked for the New Windsor Sewing Factory and then Western Maryland College, where she retired after enjoyable 27 years. She then worked for Lowes Home Improvement, as a cashier.
After retirement she relocated to Kissimmee, FL with her granddaughter, Amber. While in Florida she enjoyed being a room mother at Amber’s school, camping with Amber and visiting many of the Disney Resorts.
Libby was predeceased by her son, Gary Long of Hurlock, MD; sister, Carol Ann Davis of Keyser, WV; husband, Robert Bruce Long of Littlestown, PA; and sons-in-law, Christopher Warner and John Michels.
She is survived by her daughter, Terry Ann Michels and partner Gary Noe of Lake Placid, FL; sons, Jeff B. Long and partner Karen Rice of Indiana, PA and Kevin T. Long and wife Donna of Westminster, MD; siblings, Catherine “Cass” Litchfield of Kissimmee, FL, Brenda Read and Harvey Colson Jr. and wife Mary, all of Keyser, WV; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor on Thursday, March 28 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Inurnment will be in Taylorsville Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.

Obituary Preview: Thomas Moore Barnes, age 80, of Carroll County and formerly of Frederick County, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024 at Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center.
Born December 30, 1943 in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Louis Henry Barnes and Corlean Foster Barnes. He was the husband of Dolores Jablecki, who predeceased him in 2021.
Mr. Barnes graduated from Catonsville High School and joined the Army shortly thereafter. He was assigned to Ft. Devens, Massachusetts for one year of active duty, served his obligation of four years and was honorably discharged.
He attended the University of Maryland College and worked many years for the Department of Defense as a Signals Research Technician. After retirement he worked for Eagle Alliance as a contractor.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John H. Barnes. He is survived by his cousin, Patricia Williams and her family, Cynthia Fries and husband James, Joshua Doran and wife Chelsea, and their children, Ella and Evelyn.
There will be no services.

John Edward Thornburg - November 20, 1935 - March 17, 2024

Obituary Preview: John Edward Thornburg, 88, of Myerstown, PA, formerly of New Windsor, MD, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 17, 2024. Born November 20, 1935 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Edward Joseph Thornburg and Helen Elizabeth (Williams) Thornburg. He was the husband of the late Helen Nettie (Frost) Thornburg, his wife of 47 years. He was a devoted husband, donating his kidney to his wife in 1997.
Over the years, he enjoyed camping trips to Assateague Island and New England, and especially enjoyed his 40th wedding anniversary cruise to Bermuda with his family. He was a gifted craftsman, spending many years creating designs and remodeling his home. He was also a talented artist who loved to draw. John loved classic cars and attending car shows. He was an avid reader, loved history and was a board member of the New Windsor Community Action Project. He was of the Christian faith. Following his retirement in 2020, John remained active and enjoyed spending his free time with his family.
He is survived by his brother Robert Thornburg (Cindy) of Raleigh, NC, daughters Julie Vaughn (Tony) and Laura Richards (Kevin), grandchildren Christina Phebus (Nick), Elizabeth Vaughn, Christian, Isabella and Gabby Richards, and great-grandson Asher.
He was predeceased by his infant son, John Williams Thornburg.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, Maryland. Interment will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery.

Born September 7, 1937 in Union Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Milton J. and Lois E. Black Cartzendafner. Twice married, her first husband was Daniel H. Reese who died in 1975 and her husband of 47 years is Robert Y. Hook.
Doris was a 1955 graduate of Elmer Wolfe High School. She was an active member of Wakefield Valley Bible Church where she served as a deaconess and on the Mission Board, taught children’s Sunday school, and sang in the choir. She volunteered and then was employed at Carroll Hospital Center for a number of years. Doris was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds especially her hummingbirds, and her pet dogs and cats through the years. She loved being a housewife and mother, getting visits from her children and grandchildren and family gatherings.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are children, Kim Reese of Westminster, Chuck Reese and wife Debbie of Union Bridge, Jack Reese and wife Donna of Westminster and Eddie Reese and wife Tami of Gettysburg, PA; stepdaughter, Debra Angell Drawdy and husband Bruce of Westminster; brother, Dan Cartzendafner and wife Doris of Union Bridge, sister-in-law Edith Cartzendafner of Florida; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, David Cartzendafner and wife Ann, Donald Cartzendafner and wife Linda and Dale Cartzendafner.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23 at Wakefield Valley Bible Church with Pastors Mark Jones and Fred Horner officiating.

Born January 6, 1942 in Washington Co., MD, she was the daughter of the late Omer Clarance Mundey and Ruth Marie Blair Mundey. She was the wife of Ronald D. Williams, who predeceased her in 2019.
Helen was a former member of New Windsor ARP Church and a member of Harmony United Methodist Church in Falling Waters as well as an auxiliary member of the AMVETS Post 38, Falling Waters.
She was a homemaker for most of her adult life and dedicated her time to caring for her special needs daughter, as well as helping to raise her grandchildren. Later in her life she enjoyed playing the slots.
Surviving is her son, Jay Williams of Falling Waters; grandchildren, Ronald J. Williams of Hanover, PA and Melissa Hale and husband Kyle of Westminster, MD;great-granddaughter, Aubrey Hale; siblings, Donald Mundey of Clear Spring, MD and Janet Sigler of Cearfoss, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Lucinda D. Williams; and three brothers.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
A Celebration of Life service will be on Saturday, March 30 at 10 a.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church.

Born August 31, 1926 in New Windsor, MD, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Lonie Lambert Hoff. She was the wife of James H. Miller, who predeceased her in 1996.
She was a 1944 graduate of New Windsor High School. Before retiring, she was employed by T.W. Mathers and SERRV International.
Olive was a member of St. Benjamins Lutheran Church, Westminster and the Women of the ELCA. She volunteered at Carroll Lutheran Village, SERRV and On Earth Peace.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Lorien-Taneytown for their support and help these last 10 months.
Surviving are her daughter, Alice Moore of Winter Park, FL, son, J. Keith Carlisle and wife Nancy of Union Bridge, MD; granddaughter, Ashley Gower and husband Tim; and precious great-granddaughters, Sadie Gower, and Macie to be born in March.
She was predeceased by brothers, Francis and James Hoff; and sister, Dorothy Lease.
Interment services will be private.

Born April 3, 1954 in Frederick, MD and raised in Marston, she was the daughter of the late Harry Franklin Wilt and Ellen Elizabeth Raines Wilt.
She was the beloved wife of 30 years of Mark Peter Fratta. She is also survived by her daughter, Amanda Nicole Hill (Matthew Daniel Moulis) of Austin, TX; and her sons, Christopher Ryan and Joshua Nathan Fratta, both of Harwood.
Sharon deeply valued higher education and public service. She received her bachelor’s degree from James Madison University, followed by her master’s and PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park.
She retired as a tenured professor at Prince George’s Community College, having taught computer information systems for 20 years. She also served as an administrator and part-time professor at University of Maryland University College.
In the second half of her career, she served as the Vice President of Distance Technology at the Graduate School USA, and later, a staff officer for the Department of Defense.
Known to her close relatives as Sharon Ann, she was bold, outgoing, and loved by many. She relished spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. She enjoyed camping, boating, crafts, music, and travel — and shared a lifelong love of animals with her husband and children.
Family and friends will be received at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church Street, New Windsor on Sunday, March 3, from 1-3pm and 6-8pm.

Helen was employed as a bookkeeper with numerous businesses, retiring from Alban Tractors in White Marsh. She attended the Linwood Brethren Church and was a member of the New Windsor Lions Club as well as several Maryland historical societies. She was an avid American history buff and enjoyed cross stitching and crocheting.
Surviving are her siblings, John W. “Jack” Treadwell Jr. and wife Elaine of Freeland, Michael S. Treadwell and wife Marsha of Cumberland, Catherine “Natalie” Engelke of Perry Hall, Timothy V. Treadwell and wife Yvonne of Bowley Quarters, MD and Richard A. “Rick” Startt Sr. and wife Drema of Taneytown and numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by lifelong friend, Laura Rock of Finksburg.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, March 9 at the Linwood Brethren Church, with Pastor Wayne Bauman, officiating.

Patsy Lee Hannah - March 17, 1933 - February 09, 2024

Obituary Preview: Patsy Lee Bohn Hannah, age 90, of Hanover, PA died Friday, February 9, 2024 at her home.
Born March 17, 1933 in Daysville, Frederick County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Frank P. and M. Isabelle Eakle Bohn. She was the wife of the late Lee Theodore “Ted” Hannah, her husband of 58 years, who predeceased her in 2015.
During her early childhood the family moved to Union Bridge, MD where she was a member of Mt. Union Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a 1951 graduate of Elmer A. Wolfe High School, Union Bridge, having attended the school from grades one through twelve. She graduated in 1955 from Frostburg State Teacher’s College (now Frostburg University) with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She obtained her Advanced Professional Certificate through graduate work at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, Towson State University, University of Maryland and Loyola University, all in Maryland.
She taught first grade for 35 years, two years at Elmer Wolfe School, four years at Baldwin-Whitehall School District in Pittsburgh and 29 years in Harford County, MD (one year at Halls Cross Roads Elementary in Aberdeen and 28 years at Homestead-Wakefield Elementary in Bel Air). During her teaching career in Harford County she served as a supervising teacher for many student teachers from Towson University. Following her retirement in 1992 Mrs. Hannah continued to teach as a substitute in area private pre-schools and Homestead-Wakefield Elementary, kindergarten through third grade.
She served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Lung Association of North Central Maryland, the Teacher Advisory Council of Towson State University and the house committee of the Maryland Golf and Country Club, Bel Air.
Mrs. Hannah was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bel Air since 1993 and served as an Elder for several years, along with chairing the Christian Education Committee.
She enjoyed traveling around the world with her husband, flowers, collecting angels and clowns and writing poetry for birthdays, anniversaries and retirements. She also wrote a history in poetry when the First Presbyterian Church celebrated their 150th Anniversary.
Surviving are sister-in-law, Catherine Bohn of Hanover; nieces and nephew, Julie Arter, Dan Sellman and Karen Winters; cousin, Elizabeth Albaugh and goddaughter, Bridget Hannah Bongiorno of Birmingham, MI. She was predeceased by a brother, Neil F. Bohn in 2008.

James W. Case, age 94, of Grantsville, MD and formerly of Crossville, TN and Westminster, MD, passed away early Monday morning, February 5, 2024 at Goodwill Nursing Home, Grantsville.
Born October 31, 1929 in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late James W. and Gladys Ketchum Case. He was the husband of the late Ruth Heise Case, the late Dolores M. Case, and the late Jacqueline Bowen Case.
Mr. Case was a graduate of Fairfax (Virginia) High School, class of 1947. He attended Virginia Tech, class of 1951 and was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University. In earlier years he was employed by The Triumph Corporation of Timonium, MD, was a store manager for Western Auto Supply Co., and retired from the Federal Government after 34 years of service at the National Headquarters of Social Security and Medicare in Baltimore, MD.
Jim enjoyed entertaining people with his voice and was a popular singer performing the National Anthem at Camden Yards for the Baltimore Orioles in 1992, 1993 and 1994. He belonged to the acclaimed Senior Star Showcase at the Essex Community College and performed with them in Las Vegas, New York and at Disney World. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and touring motorcyclist, riding in every state except Alaska.
Surviving are one daughter, Christine Marshall and husband Kevin of Cape Coral, FL; sons, Bradford Case and wife Sandy of Cape Coral, FL, Michael Case and wife Patty of Avilton, MD; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his son, Wes Case; one sister; and one brother.
A memorial service will be held at Eyler’s Valley Church, Thurmont, MD at a later date with inurnment in Eyler’s Valley Cemetery.

Born October 5, 1930 in Fancy Gap, VA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Fred Edwards and Emma Inez Beamer Edwards. She was the wife of the late Gene A. Moyers who died in 2018.
Prior to her retirement, she worked for more than 30 years at the Westminster Livestock Auction. She was a member of the Firesiders’ Homemakers Club of New Windsor and was a longtime member of Wakefield Valley Bible Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, children’s church teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and as a deaconess. She enjoyed cooking, vegetable gardening and sewing.
Surviving are children Debbie Yontz and husband Don of Sophia, NC and Gerry A. Moyers and wife Laura of Westminster; grandchildren Meghan Moyers and Alex Dutterer, and one brother Berlie Edwards and wife Doris of Catonsville.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by an infant daughter in 1967 and 2 brothers, Edwin Edwards and wife Edna and Dale Edwards and wife Dolly.

Born April 23, 1969 in Leesburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Betty Fawley Barrett. She was the wife of John J. Roop, her husband of six years and companion of eleven years.
In addition to her husband she is survived by daughter, Ashleigh Clark and husband Martin of Bryan,Texas; stepson, John J. Roop Jr. of Harpers Ferry, adopted son Ricky Thompson of Charles Town, and grandchildren, Laura, and Baby Tilly expected in mid-February; mother-in-law, Brenda Roop of Westminster; sister-in-law, Becky Stem and husband Bill of Westminster and brothers-in-law, Daniel Roop Jr. and girlfriend Anna and Michael Roop and wife Robin, all of Westminster; also many aunts and uncles and cousins she loved dearly. She will also be fondly remembered by special friends, Michaud Weinberg and daughter Mia and all of the girls in “The Girls’ Squad” and endless neighbors in the community. Jena loved her dogs, Kritter, McIntyre and Ellie Mae, competing in Dock Dogs competitions and in antique tractor pulls, and she loved her auction family.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 23 at Jerry Murphy’s Farm, 11502 Browningsville Rd., Ijamsville, MD 21754.

Born March 14, 1933 in Frederick County, he was the son of the late T. Arthur Thompson Sr. and Mabel C. Mullinix Thompson. He was the husband of Thelma Lee Devilbiss Thompson, his wife of 72 years.
He is also survived by his children, Deborah A. Rosebrock and husband Joseph of Union Bridge, Michael L. Thompson and wife Sharon of Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Lucas Thompson and wife Robin of Ortanna, PA, Adam Thompson and wife Katelyn of York Springs, PA, Joseph Rosebrock III; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Sutton Thompson; and sisters, Janet Arbaugh and husband Randy of Hanover, PA, JoAnn Myers and husband Tim of Bonneauville, PA.
He was predeceased by his sister, Doris Troxell.
A long-time dairy farmer, in 1952 Sonny worked for 14 years at McKinstry’s Mill; 2 years at the Haines farm in Uniontown; 4 years at Phillips farm, near Union Bridge; and for 32 years at his home, Singing Springs Farm, New Windsor, retiring in 2004.
He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, New Windsor, where he had previously served 3 terms on the church council, and was also on the church property committee, as well as 25 years on Winters Cemetery committee. He was a past member of the New Windsor Lions Club, MD-VA Milk Producers and Capitol Milk Producers, Southern States Cooperative, and was a member of the dance club, the Woodsboro Oldtimers. He enjoyed traveling on “talk tours”, dancing and helping with Lions Club meals.
A visitation will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor on Thursday, February 1 from 4 to 7 pm.

She was born on April 19, 1930, the daughter of the late Charles Melbin Hatfield and Anna Elizabeth Stultz Hatfield and 5th of their 10 children. She was the devoted wife to Raymond “Gary” Brown who died in 2018.
Doris graduated from New Windsor High School in 1949. On May 20, 1950 she married Gary and they had five children: Linda Fay Brown (Roy) of Los Lumas, NM, Gary Michael Brown (Liz) of Westminster, MD, Carol Ann Eggers (Chuck) of Marine on St. Croix, MN, Raymond Allen Brown (Joy) of Hampstead, MD and Erma Celeste Brown of Littlestown, PA. She had 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Doris was the last of her immediate family of 4 sisters and 5 brothers. She was a loving wife, attentive mother and doting grandmother, was a wonderful seamstress and made many dresses (including wedding and bridesmaid dresses) for people in New Windsor. She was well-known in New Windsor for her crab cake recipe and these popular crab cakes continue to be served at the New Windsor Firemen’s Carnival. She was devoted to the town of New Windsor, where she was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, was an avid gardener and known for her beautiful flower beds. She will be greatly missed by her family, her community and those she touched. The family is grateful that she had a long and joyous life and that she passed peacefully and is now reunited in heaven with her husband Gary.

Fifteen months earlier, Dan had been blessed with the gift of life after a very successful heart transplant. Within that gifted time, he was able to attend his son’s wedding, enjoy watching his three grandchildren blossom, and spend beautiful and quality time with his wife and family.
Born on March 22, 1961 in Takoma Park, he was the son of the late Brice Williams Turner and Virginia Walker Turner. Having shared 40 loving years of marriage, he was the husband of Patrice M. Turner.
Dan was retired from the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab after his employment as a department administrator. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Windsor. More than anything, Dan treasured his family and his time spent with his grandchildren. He was a VW enthusiast as he spent much of his spare time rebuilding old VW “bugs’’ when he wasn’t with family. Dan also had a great love for dogs and always had the desire to rescue as often as he could.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Annalise M. Evans and husband Josh of New Windsor; his son, Calvin W. Turner and wife Bridget of Manchester; and his beautiful grandchildren, Wyatt, Owen and Isla Evans. He is also survived by his sister, Hallie Weber and husband Ron of North Carolina and his nephew (Bradley Weber) and niece (Erin Weber).
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 200 Main St., New Windsor, with Rev. Shari McCourt, church pastor, officiating.

While in Germany she worked as a dental hygienist and received her business administration degree. Doris enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are her son, Michael H. Brown of Libertytown; granddaughter, Alexis Brown of New Market; brother, Ferdinand Spriestersbach of Germany and a niece, Annette Bala, husband Thomas and family of Germany. She was predeceased by a daughter, Michele Brown Morgan in 1992.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Born January 18, 1952 in Cincinnati, OH he was the son of Roy and Georgia Tucker. After graduating from Mt. Healthy High in 1971, Charles joined the US Marine Corps where he would stay for the next 27 years before retiring in 1999 as Lt. Col.
Once retired, Charles turned his love of motorcycles into a second career working a variety of roles at Harley-Davidson of The Woodlands in The Woodlands, Texas where he met the true love of his life, his wife, Valerie, in 2006.
Charles and Valerie married in Key West in 2014 and moved to Westminster in 2018. Fully retired, Charles spent his time taking trips on his motorcycle, mastering the grill and smoker, listening to Jimmy Buffett and living on “island time”.
In addition to being a devoted husband, he was also a loving father to his 4 children, Andrew, Amy (Jason) Adam (Christy), and Ted (Lyndsey), grandfather to Seth (Lindsay), Jo, Haley, Jaden, Kalina, Tristan, Casey, Emma and Gavin, and great-grandfather to Reagan, Amelia and Georgia.
Charles is also survived by his brother, Roger of Fairfield, OH and nephews, Roger Jr. and Aaron.

He was predeceased by a brother Donald Barnes and his beloved dog Chloe.

He was a member of Edgewood Church of the Brethren. He served as a member of the Libertytown Lions for several years. He enjoyed flying small planes in his younger years and spending time with his dog Monty.
Surviving are children John J. Roop and wife Jena of Harpers Ferry, WV; Rebecca Stem and husband Billy; Daniel Roop Jr. and girlfriend Anna Crowl, Michael Roop and wife Robin, all of Westminster. In addition are his grandchildren Brittany Bolner, Chet Stem, Joey Roop, Becca Thomas; as well as his great-grandchildren Easton and Ainsley Bolner and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings Rauland Roop, Dr. R. Gary Roop, and Winifred (Winnie) Moran.
