Curtis "Curt" Johnson - April 18, 1941 - May 12, 2022

Departed: 05/12/2022 (Jasper)
Obituary Preview: In lieu of cut flowers, planted flowers are appreciated.
CURTIS "CURT" BURTON JOHNSON was born April 18, 1941, in Sioux Agency Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Carlyle and Beuella Johnson. He was the first grandchild on both sides of the family, which means he was a bright spot for everyone.
Because his father was serving in the Navy in WWII, Curtis and his mom lived on the family farm with Beuella’s parents. Curt loved being on the farm, following Grandpa Lecy and Uncle Coral around like a little puppy. His love for farming took root. He always wanted to live on a farm, but that was not meant to be.
When his father returned home, the family was reunited and Curtis discovered stone work. He spent his life in that family business. He tried other work, but he always returned to stone cutting, eventually becoming the Superintendent of the Jasper Stone Company.
In 1969, Curt met and married Dianne Wentworth. Initially they lived in Luverne, MN, but soon returned to Jasper. Both Curt and Dianne loved to travel. In fact, they made it to 33 states, plus Canada, Mexico and Norway. It seemed that each state had a stone quarry, which required his inspection. Curt loved cars, owning 70 different types of vehicles over time. Another form of transportation was the motorcycle! His love of them began early in his teenage years. Soon he decided that he should share that love with others and created a business, renting them. Sometimes they came assembled, but occasionally they arrived in crates which required a little ingenuity to put them together. (Especially those that came in a crate from Spain!) Not to be deterred however, they were assembled and on the road!
Growing up in Minnesota, the love of the water was near and dear. Every summer, a week was spent at a lake. Curt knew that he wanted to experience that a little more often, and so in 1971, he purchased lake front property at Lake Benton, MN. In 1973, a farmhouse from a property a mile away, was moved over and the renovation began. An addition was put on and a Jasper Stone fireplace was put in for heat.
The Lake House became a place where friends and family could gather. The entire family celebrated a dream that Curt had created. It was a respite from problems. As one turned on the road, “Lake-itis” attacked. One could barely function, due to the relaxing atmosphere.
One of the things that Curt always said, “You have to have the right equipment if you were going to have a Lake House.” That equipment included two new rods and reels every year, fishing boats/motors, jet skis, pontoon boats, speed boats, skis and huge innertubes to be towed behind the boat! Winter was no exception…that equipment included snowmobiles and ice fishing houses. For 46 years, many memories were created and held close because of that wonderful Lake House.
Grateful for having shared his life are his sister, Cynthia (Mark) Jamison; nephews, Travis (Bobbi Jo) Hinsch and Jared (Kayla) Hinsch; grand-niece, Shay (Dan) Knobloch, Montgomery Hinsch, Jaydon, Elijah, Meghan Hinsch, Braylon Hostetler, Brennan, Kyndra, Isabella Hinsch; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan and Dianna Wentworth and Dennis and Mary Gayle Roskam; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dianne; his parents, Carlyle and Beuella Johnson; and his nephew, Sean Hinsch.
Curt died peacefully on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the Pipestone County Hospice House at the age of 81 years and 24 days. As we say good-bye to Curt, we remember with the fondness the lessons taught, the love he gave, the servant's heart he had and the fun we had with him.

Milton "Poots" A. Kindt - September 16, 1933 - September 17, 2021

Departed: 09/17/2021 (Jasper)
Obituary Preview: To view Poots' funeral service please click the following link, View Funeral Webcast
Our Dad, Milton Alfred “Poots” Kindt, was called home to be with his Lord on Friday, September 17, 2021, while under the care of Pipestone County Hospice.
Milton was born on September 16, 1933, at home in Elmer Township, Minnesota. He was the youngest of six children born to John Nicolas Kindt and Anna Catherine (Hass) Kindt. Milton attended Pipestone County, MN Rural Schools through 8th grade. He graduated from Jasper High School in 1951.
Milton was a hard throwing and wild “southpaw” pitcher first at JHS and then for the Jasper Town Team. Milton was drafted by the Chicago Cubs farm team and spent the spring of 1952, playing baseball at minor league camps in Carthage, MO and Jaynesville, WI. He was sent home after his arm began hurting. He frequently wrote letters home to his dear Mom and she saved them all.
He returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Billie DeSart. Together they raised three children, Lynnette, Keith, and Bryce, on the farm they purchased from Billie’s grandparents, Otto and Mabel Baden, three miles south of Jasper, MN. Billie’s great Uncle, Nyle Fields, needed a place to live and Mom and Dad generously welcomed him into their home. He lived with them for twelve years. In addition to corn, soybeans and alfalfa, Dad raised cattle, hogs and chickens. A hissing gaggle of geese freely roamed the farmyard. The years on the farm hold many happy family memories.
In 1966, Mom and Dad purchased the home of Billie’s Grandmother, Mabel Baden, and moved to Jasper. They lived there comfortably for over 55 years. Their home was always open to anyone who needed a meal, just to talk or a quick game of cards. Dad and Mom were avid bridge players. Gauge S. Sprik - February 24, 2013 - September 30, 2020

Departed: 09/30/2020 (Jasper)
Obituary Preview: GAUGE SYLAS SPRIK was born on February 24, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Luverne, Minnesota. He was raised by his mother in Jasper, Minnesota, and was a nearly perfect child. He was tender hearted and sensitive to emotion around him, hardly ever requiring a firm word. He loved to make people laugh and Gauge himself had a giggle that couldn’t be resisted even if you tried. This contagious sound could often be heard when he was video chatting with his cousins. He was described as comical and was always so happy. He was a determined and energetic boy; his mom says he was never a good sleeper but was always up for the next adventure. He had a remarkable imagination.
Gauge was complemented by his 1st grade teacher at Edgerton Public School, Mrs. Delaney, that he would always raise his hand. If he was ever corrected he would try so hard to get it right because he was always wanting to make people proud. He always succeeded. The kids at his daycare were always excited on the days when Gauge was there saying “Gauge is here! Gauge is here!” He was the kind of kid who became everyone’s favorite. Recently, he had been venturing out on his own around the block, trying out his independence and visiting with everyone he could along the way. Gauge would share belongings without prompting, which was evident at parades when he would run for candy and give it to the other kids or when he would bring his toys to school to give them away. One time he was caught going into his piggy bank so he could bring money to school, explaining to his mom that he had a classmate who needed the money to buy the toy that they wanted.
Gauge had so many people who he loved, and who loved him. He’d spend time being loved at grandma’s in Hardwick where he enjoyed being pushed in the hammock. He’d also spend time on the ranch by Jasper playing outside with the animals, especially the cats. He loved to spend time with friends and family and would ask to battle whether it be with his legos or dressing up to battle with someone else. Even though he would spend time at many different places he could always keep track of his toys; Gauge’s memory was sharp. He always knew exactly where he put each and every toy and when he didn’t have toys along, grandpa knew who to blame when the headlight boxes at the NAPA store were stacked into a pyramid on the shelf. Deanne and Gauge were a team, he would often go to work with Deanne and decided he would work with her at JJ’s when he grew up. There didn’t seem to be much of a question on that life plan. That doesn’t mean Deanne and Gauge did everything on their own though. Living in Jasper meant they were surrounded by a community of people who were family to them both. Gauge was considered a son to many, so much so that Deanne describes him as “everyone’s kid.” This is part of what made Gauge so special, he was loved by many, which meant he had endless amounts of love to give. Looking at Gauge’s life, it is clear that the lyrics to Gauge’s favorite song ring true: “God is on the move.”
On Wednesday, September 30, 2020, Gauge was welcomed into the arms of Jesus at the age of 7 years, 7 months and 6 days.
Gauge’s spirit will live on in the hearts of many which include his mother, Deanne and her boyfriend, Troy Kounkel of Jasper; grandparents, Randy (Dorothy) Sprik of Edgerton; grandmother Ancerita Van Hofwegen-Sprik of Hardwick; uncle, Daniel Van Hofwegen and his children, Wilder, Cora, Vera and Mahpiya of Minneapolis; aunt, Cerrita (David) Tracy and their children Anne, Emma, Ruby and Rose of Des Moines; aunt, Laresa (Ryan) Reed and their baby boy of Des Moines; maternal great-grandmother, Mary Van Hofwegen of Edgerton; paternal great-grandparents, Stanley and Leona Sprik of Edgerton; and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Dick Van Hofwegen.
