It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John David House on November 19, 2023, in Austin, TX, surrounded by his loving family. John, born on May 22, 1966, in Chicago, IL, touched the lives of many with his warmth, dedication, and passion for life.
John proudly served in the United States Navy, embarking on a distinguished career that spanned from July 1984 to June 1996. His commitment to duty, honor, and service shaped his character and left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
After his honorable service, John became a skilled Samsung Master Technician, bringing his expertise to the world of technology. His green thumb was evident in his love for gardening, and his culinary skills delighted those fortunate enough to taste his creations. The open road called to him, and he embraced the freedom of riding his beloved Harley motorcycle.

Larry Miller - July 26, 1947 - October 07, 2023

Departed: 10/07/2023 (Austin)
Obituary Preview: Larry Miller, a man known for his generosity, honesty, quick wit, ability to fix anything, and love for family, passed away on October 7, 2023, in Austin. Larry was born on July 26, 1947, in Comanche, Texas, and his family moved to Austin shortly thereafter. Larry's enjoyment for getting things done right and efficiently, along with his unwavering determination made him the go-to person for family and friends.
Larry was the beloved husband of 57 years to his wife Janet, and the loving father of daughter Kim Luikart and son Shawn Miller, and father-in-law to Chris Luikart and Chelsea Miller. He was the doting grandfather (Pepa) to Shelby, Shea, Davis, Maddie, and Annie, who all brought him immense joy. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Horace Miller, brothers Leonard, Melvin, and Ernest Miller, and sisters Francis, Ivy, and Cathy. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Schumacher, who will miss her brother's stubbornness.
Proud to be a native Austinite, Larry attended Travis Heights, Fulmore, and Travis High School. In his early career, he contributed to the growth and development of the Austin area, laying the groundwork for numerous home subdivisions, and assisting in the installation of gas pipelines from Austin to Mason. His resourcefulness also played a role in the development of the Veloway in South Austin. Around the age of 50, Larry transitioned into entrepreneurship by owning Miller Construction Company. Inspired by building his second home, he found this direction enjoyable and, alongside his son Shawn, began building and remodeling more homes in the Austin area. His creativity and craftsmanship were evident in every project he undertook.
Outside of work, Larry was a passionate bass fisherman. On any given day you would find him on the lake with a grandchild or two, his wife Janet, or friends. He just loved to fish and enjoyed teaching others to share his passion. He was happy to see that his son Shawn also found a love for fishing.
Another joy in Larry's life was gardening, where he enjoyed planting and nurturing various plants until they thrived. He also cared about the preservation of nature, which he exhibited through his catch-and-release fishing, gardening, and taking care of wildlife, including watching and feeding hummingbirds. Larry was proud to see his daughter Kim develop the same love for the outdoors through her gardening.
Larry was the heart of his family, always bringing laughter into their lives with his quick-witted comebacks. While Larry was someone of many talents, above all he was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family deeply and knew how much they loved him in return.
Larry's life was a testament to hard work, the importance of family, and the joy of pursuing passions. His memory will be cherished by those who knew him. That memory will live on in homes he built, plants he nurtured, but most importantly in the hearts of loved ones.

Departed: 09/15/2023 (Austin)
Obituary Preview: Ruben Solis, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2023, at his home in Buda, Texas. He was born on November 15, 1951, at Mercy Hospital in Slaton, Texas.
Ruben was the oldest of five children born to Mary and Pete Solis. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers David, Tom, and Guadalupe "Frosty" Solis. Ruben is survived by his wife of 27 years, Olivia (Magallanes), and their five children: Denise Rudd and husband Brad of Slaton, Michael Solis and his wife Josie of Lubbock, Christina Solis of Slaton, Jacob Gonzales of Buda, and Monica Lassman and her husband Brent of Kyle. He also leaves behind his sister, Oralia Gonzales, and her husband Louis of Lubbock, nine cherished grandchildren, three great-granddaughters, and a fourth great-granddaughter expected in January.
A proud graduate of Slaton High School in 1971, Ruben furthered his education at Texas Tech and South Plains College. His early years were spent learning the craft of the body shop and mechanics, a skill he learned from his father. Ruben dedicated many years to the body shop industry before transitioning to Brown McKee Construction and later to Smith Ford of Slaton. At the age of 44, after obtaining his associate degree, Ruben embarked on a fulfilling career in Health and Human Services, from which he retired in 2016.
Ruben's interests were as diverse and vibrant as the life he led. He found joy in fishing and traveling along the Texas coastline, and he and his wife Olivia never missed their annual trip to New Orleans in search of great food. He was also known for his golf adventures with his cousin Rudy Avalos in Ft. Worth and cherished visits with his nieces and nephews. Retirement allowed Ruben to explore his love for RV trips with Olivia and their three dogs. When at home, Ruben was happiest watching Saturday football, smoking briskets, tending to his yard, and talking UT football with his longtime friend Allan Sanders. One of his other joys was talking to his friends on Facebook and trying to stay out of Facebook jail.
Ruben's legacy is one of love, resilience, and dedication. He lived his life with a spirit of generosity, always putting the needs of others before his own. His intelligence shone through in his thirst for knowledge and his ability to engage in meaningful conversations on a wide range of topics. But above all, Ruben will be remembered for his love - a love that was evident in his devotion to his family, his passion for his interests, and his unwavering kindness to those around him.
Ruben Solis was a man of extraordinary character and humility. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His was a life well-lived, and he will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held Saturday September 30th, 2023, at 3 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle, Texas.
