Guinevere Clara Humphreys - October 26, 2020 - May 29, 2023

Departed: 05/29/2023 (Killeen)
Obituary Preview: Guinevere “Guinny” Clara Humphreys, age 2, passed away in her sleep on May 29th, 2023. Funeral Mass will will be held June 7th, 2023 at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Liu as the celebrant. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be June 7th, 2023 at 10am.
Guinny was born peacefully at home in Ansbach, Germany on October 26th, 2020 to Amber and Thomas Humphreys. Born under the lockdowns of COVID, she took quickly to being the youngest of 6 in a large Catholic family, loving nothing more than spending time playing with her brothers and sisters. Guinevere spent considerable time, attached to mom, singing in the church. She loved to dance, especially with daddy, and always smiled as she did. A true military kid, she moved from Germany to Killeen, Texas at the age of 5 months where she lived until her passing. Guinny’s favorite days were spent playing with her friends and family who were great in number, but especially swinging high into the sky with Daddy at the park or the backyard. She enjoyed chasing after cats which she affectionately called “her Cali”, regardless of their actual name, and picking wildflowers. You could often catch her watching Bluey while carrying around her baby dolls. Guinevere was a wildly independent toddler with a soft spot for cuddling with her parents and caregivers and doting on her baby sister. She will be missed beyond measure.
Guinevere was preceded in death by her brother Maximilian Kolbe Humphreys.
Survivors include: Her parents, Thomas & Amber Humphreys; siblings, Madeline, Jenivive, Charlotte, Gabriel, Isaac, and Eleanore Humphreys.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Humphreys, Moe Moeller, Reginald Oliver, & Michael Henderson.

As a young lady, Carina earned her Cosmetology degree, and her love for beauty, aesthetics, and fashion remained an interest of hers throughout her life. She loved to shop and she enjoyed getting a good deal on clothing, trinkets, and accessories. She showed great talent in crocheting, and gifted her handiwork to many. Gift-giving was Carina’s love language, and she was incredibly generous to everyone she knew. After caring for her children until they were grown, Carina spent several years working at a fruit stand in Rockledge, FL, and at restaurants in Merritt Island, FL. She was honored as the Fazzoli’s restaurant regional “Employee of the Year” at a large gala in Las Vegas, which gave her the opportunity to try her luck at the slot machines. Her supervisors described her as having “a win-win attitude and a contagious smile,” and customers referred to her as the “dining-room queen.” This was a proud accomplishment of hers. Carina was always active, feisty, and loved to travel and enjoy life. She had an incredible sense of humor, which was accentuated by her thick Filipino accent, and she always knew how to make those around her laugh with her random antics and comments. After her husband passed, she would often talk about how she missed “Tex” so much. Although the loss of her presence is deep and profound, her loved ones can take solace in knowing that she is now resting in eternal peace with her cherished husband.

Jo Ann Thompson-Johnson - December 13, 1946 - March 26, 2023

Departed: 03/26/2023 (Killeen)
Obituary Preview: Jo Ann (Ninny) Johnson was born to the parental stewardship of Eva Clyde Sanders and Howard Lewis on December 13, 1946, in Giddings, Texas. Here she was reared in the fear and admonition of the Lord as the youngest of seven sisters and two brothers. Here she attended and completed her formal education in the public schools. It was also here that her decision to settle her eternal destiny beyond her earthly tenure was inspired. The establishment, growth, and development of her Christian convictions began at Saint Paul Baptist Church in Giddings, Texas, where she remained a faithful member until relocating to Killeen, Texas, in October of 1972.
The witness of her personal relationship with her Savior was apparent to the family of God through the fellowship she maintained with the Body of Christ. The testimony of her profession of Faith was disclosed through the windows of her genuine interest and affirmed through her involvement in the work of the Church.
After relocating to Killeen from Giddings, she united with the Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church. Here, her membership was active and targeted to serve the Lord with gladness in several auxiliaries not limited to the Senior Women’s Mission. The Spiritual Gifts of helps and service were endowed upon her. Without hesitation, they were employed through her willingness to organize, assist, and instruct the younger women with crafts and sewing while impacting their souls with insight from the Word of God. As a woman of Wisdom, she believed in depositing into the destinies of other women’s lives.
Jo Ann’s life is a godly legacy to be celebrated. After 28 years of devoted service to Sprint telephone company, health challenges led her to retire with honor.
Among the greatest delights in her life are two sons born to the first union between her and their father, Booker Thompson.
The second-highest delight of her soul next to her Savior occurred when she met and married Ronald Johnson on November 23, 1993. The two were inseparable companions complementing each other’s earthly course with selfless and ceaseless communion. Laughter, even in the face of disagreements, sustained the theme of their unconditional love for one another.
Her understanding of life was drawn from the contents and commentary of her trust in God. Anything she could not understand was settled by her knowledge of the Identity, Nature, and Character of the God she loved and lived to fear.
The union between her reverence of God and her living to trust in God brought her into His eternal Presence on the afternoon of March 26, 2023. Among those who preceded her earthly transition are her parents: Howard Lewis and Eva Clyde Sanders; seven siblings: Dorothy Roberts, Larry Sanders, Ruth Hickey, Gladys Rogers, Bobbie Sanders, Mae Hodge, and Lloyd Hodge
Among those who remain to honor her life and cherish her memories are her faithful husband: Ronald Johnson; four children: Broderick Thompson of Killeen, Texas, and Byron (Ericka) Thompson of Desoto, Texas; LaToya Johnson of Detroit, Michigan, and Ronald Johnson Jr. of Detroit, Michigan; One sister: Joyce Bonner of Austin, Texas; Eight grandchildren: Broderick (Monique) Thompson Jr, Brook Thompson, Brittany Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Montez Allen, Monte Allen, Re’nya Johnson, Ronald Johnson III, and a host of other family members, loved ones, and friends.

Lora Claudia (Keith) Jarma - December 11, 1941 - February 18, 2023

Departed: 02/18/2023 (Killeen)
Obituary Preview: Lora Claudia (Keith) Jarma nee Blackwell was born December 11, 1941 to Claud and Vivian Blackwell and died February 18, 2023. She is survived by her husband John Daniel Jarma of Killeen,Texas, her daughter Rene' Hernandez and husband of Anna ,Texas, her daughter Vickie Harris and husband of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, her sister Karen Kamman, her brothers Dean Blackwell, and James Blackwell and wife. She was also the proud Grandmother to Aubrey Dakin, Laura Marx and Joel Hernandez and Great grandmother to Cedric, Moira and Shane. She is preceded in death by her first husband, James Keith and her parents. She also counted many nieces and nephews and others in her family as precious to her.
At the tender age of 12, she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She maintained a firm faith in Jehovah's promises to restore the earth to it's original purpose of a paradise home for his faithful human creation along with the vindication of his name. She exercised strong faith in the promise outlined in the bible of a resurrection on earth for those asleep in death. To that end she took joy in being a preacher and teacher as commissioned in the scriptures by Jesus Christ. She counted many along the way as spiritual sons and daughters.  Some of her happiest times were spent in the full time service as a pioneer. She was a gregarious person and had a way with words that was honed into a degree in communication. She truly enjoyed reporting on many subjects in various newspaper articles through the years as both a reporter and contributor to newspapers and campus news letters. Her welcoming nature led to a home that was always busy with friends and family visiting both in person and by phone or other electronic devices. These qualities enabled her to become a very skilled educator in her secular work and in her spiritual ministry as well. She had the reputation among the various young ones in her life as "the storyteller", as she could make quite the funny or exciting or poignant tale out of so many moments of her life or the goings on around her. She was also an accomplished artist and enjoyed drawing and painting. Her artistic nature was also expressed through photography and she won an award for her work in that medium. She greatly enjoyed time spent with family and friends, reading, fishing, gardening, listening to country and folk music, family game nights, and oh goodness but she did love to shop!
She was deeply loved and respected by many and will be sorely missed until she's resurrected here on earth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It serves as a way to share the news of a loved one's passing with family, friends, and community.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries play a significant role in honoring the life of the deceased, providing closure for those who are grieving, and serving as a historical record of the person's life. They also give family and friends an opportunity to celebrate the person's achievements, share memories, and offer condolences.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, funeral homes or mortuaries may offer assistance in writing the obituary as part of their services.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, interests, and surviving family members. It may also include information about memorial services, charitable donations, or other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be more suitable for online platforms or personal websites.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more engaging for readers.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

The submission process varies depending on the publication or platform. You can usually find guidelines on their website or by contacting their customer service department directly. Be prepared to provide the written obituary, payment information (if applicable), and any required documentation.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, location, and length of the obituary. Some newspapers or online platforms may offer free or low-cost options, while others may charge several hundred dollars or more.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's difficult to make changes to an obituary once it's been published. However, if there's an error or inaccuracy, you may be able to request corrections from the publication or platform. Online platforms may offer more flexibility for editing and updating.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary can vary depending on the publication's schedule and deadlines. Online platforms may publish immediately or within a few hours, while print newspapers may take several days or even weeks.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, many people choose to write their own obituary as part of their estate planning or as a way to reflect on their life. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your story is told in your own words.

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that celebrates the person's life and legacy.

Can I include humor or personality in an obituary?

Absolutely! An obituary should reflect the personality and spirit of the deceased. Including anecdotes, quotes, or humorous stories can make the tribute more engaging and memorable.

How do I handle sensitive or private information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive or private details about the deceased that you're unsure about sharing, it's best to err on the side of caution and omit them from the obituary. Consult with family members or close friends if you're unsure about what to include.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial funds in an obituary?

Yes, many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a cause they cared about.

How do I notify social media platforms about someone's passing?

Social media platforms have different procedures for reporting deaths and memorializing accounts. You can usually find this information on their website or by contacting their customer support team.

Can I create a digital archive of an obituary?

Yes, many online platforms offer digital archiving options for preserving obituaries. You can also save a copy of the obituary as a PDF or print it out for safekeeping.

How do I find old obituaries from years ago?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites. Many libraries also maintain archives of local newspapers that can be accessed for research purposes.

Can I republish an old obituary on social media or online platforms?

If you have permission from the original publisher or copyright holder, you may be able to republish an old obituary online. Be sure to credit the original source and respect any copyright restrictions.

What's the significance of including survivors in an obituary?

Can I include pets in an obituary?

Absolutely! Pets are often considered beloved members of the family, and including them in an obituary can be a touching tribute to their importance in the deceased person's life.

How do I handle multiple marriages or complicated family relationships in an obituary?

This can be a delicate situation. It's essential to approach it with sensitivity and respect for all parties involved. Consider consulting with family members or close friends to determine how best to acknowledge these relationships in the obituary.

Can I write an obituary for someone who has no immediate family?

Yes! Even if someone doesn't have immediate family members, they may have had close friends, colleagues, or community connections who would like to pay tribute to their life. An obituary can still be written and published as a way to honor their memory.
