Mr. Tustison went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on April 30, 2024, in Tyler.
Jerry Lee Tustison was born October 11, 1938, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, the son of Charles and Pauline Tustison. He began his career working for over 10 years at the Ratteree Building material Company in Irving before moving into the swimming pool sales field. He worked for over 5 years at the Holiday Industries Pool Company in Irving before he moved his family to Malakoff where he started Tustison Sales, where he sold pools until his retirement. He loved spending time with family and took great joy in spending time with his brother in Longview.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Karen K. Lynch and daughter in law Sandra Lee Tustison.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Billie Nadine (Elmore) Tustison of Tyler; son Jim Tustison of Chandler, granddaughter LeeAnn Danyel Tustison and fiancé Austin Ray Krska of Chandler and his brother Lynn Tustison of Longview.
A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2024, at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Obituary Preview: A celebration of the life of Johnny Giles, 77, of Athens will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Hope Church of Murchison with Pastor Chris Wilson officiating, along with Ken Jones (former pastor of Athens First Assembly of God where Johnny attended most of his life and had the honor of serving as a deacon). The Memorial Service is under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Giles was promoted to heaven on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in Tyler, Texas.
Johnny Wayne Giles was born March 28, 1947, in Tyler, Texas, the son of WD Giles and Lucy Mae (Driver) Giles. After he graduated from Athens High School he went on to receive his associates from Henderson County Junior College, then married the love of his life, Maurica Howell. He was soon drafted and joined the United States Air Force, where he served for four years before being honorably discharged. He then went back to college and earned a bachelor’s degree, then subsequently earned a master’s degree. He began his working career at Parnell’s A/C during his younger years, after he completed his service to his country. Johnny joined United Telephone, where he worked for over 38 years before he retired in management with Sprint. Johnny was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, rooting for UT and the Dallas Cowboys, as well as drinking coffee and laughing with his buddies. Johnny (or Papa to his grandchildren) was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, who will be missed by all those he spent time with.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Cheryl Lynn Giles Arber; his son Jason Wade Giles; sister Jennita Jenkins and his two best friends, Paul Silvey and Cleve Garrard.
He is survived by his loving wife Maurica Giles of Athens; brothers Roy Giles and wife Jean, William “Corkey” Giles and wife Pam; sisters, Betty Giles Pike, Juanita Giles Lamance and husband Jerry; two granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Arber, Rebekah Makayln Arber; great grandson Elijah; lifelong special friends, Marion Silvey, Brenda Garrard, Mike and Cathie Williams and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, Roy Giles, “Corkey” Giles, Mike Williams, George Burton, David Maddox, Danny Elledge and Gary Gunderson.
His memorial honorary pallbearers are Paul Silvey and Cleve Garrard who were awaiting him in Heaven.

Tereso Salazar Hernandez was born on October 3, 1954, in Los Arrieros, Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Mexico the son of J. Carmen Salazar Serna and Micaela (Hernandez). “Don Tere” began his career in the tree trimming business with Asplundh Tree Service before joining the team at Wright Tree Service where he retired in 2013. He loved working and was known to share his good attitude with everyone he met. Welito was a member of the St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Athens, loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his new great grandchildren and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Nancy Karen Oberg was born August 18, 1954, in Bossier City, Louisiana the daughter of William Aaron Brown and Edith (Buck) Brown. She loved taking care of her parents, enjoyed going out to the movies and trying new restaurants. NaNa was a loving mother and grandmother who will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Don Brown, Larry Brown and Judy Brown.
She is survived by her two children, John C. Oberg III of Tyler, Keith Oberg and wife Rebekah of Midland and her grandchildren, John C. Oberg IV, Vivian Oberg, Hadley Oberg, Brooks Oberg.

Patricia Carranza Sánchez nació el 2 de octubre de 1973 en San Antonio, Texas, hija de Miguel Carranza y Esthela (Díaz) Carranza. Patricia passed away in the presence of her loving family on April 24, 2024, in Athens, Texas after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Patricia Carranza Sanchez was born on October 2, 1973, in San Antonio, Texas the daughter of Miguel Carranza and Esthela (Diaz) Carranza. She was raised in Athens, Texas where she graduated with the Class of 1992 from Athens High School and shortly after began the cosmetology program at TVCC and working at the Holiday cleaners but ultimately left both to start a career with the Athens Independent School District. Her career with AISD began as a teacher’s aide, then as receptionist to then being the principal’s secretary at Bel-Air Elementary. The children at Bel-Air were very fond of her and lovingly referred to her as their Aunt Patty for nearly 24 years. She continued her career at AISD as the administration receptionist and district translator until she began her second fight with cancer. Patricia was a dedicated member of the St. Edwards Catholic Church in Athens. She enjoyed spending time watching baseball with her father, dancing with her husband at family parties, visiting her daughters in Huntsville, and singing in the car, especially to Reba. She was a devoted daughter to her parents, caring for them until her illness wouldn’t allow, a loving aunt and sister who enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time with them, especially her nieces and nephews and most importantly a dedicated wife and mother for almost 30 years.
She is preceded in death by her mother, her maternal and paternal grandparents, and her father-in-law.
Patricia is survived by her husband of 29 years, Aurelio Sanchez of Athens; two daughters, Gracie Sanchez and Valeria Sanchez both of Huntsville; father, Miguel Carranza of Athens; three siblings, Miguel Carranza and wife Patty of Athens, Carmen Delgado of Athens, Felipe Carranza and wife Samantha of Athens; nephews, Tres Carranza, Tony Carranza, Milo Carranza, Sebastian Delgado, Gabriel Carranza, Eliseo Carranza; numerous God-children and a host of other family.
Miguel Carranza, Felipe Carranza, Tres Carranza, Tony Carranza, Milo Carranza, Sebastian Delgado will serve as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. with a Catholic Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.

Laura Paulette (Palmer) Howard was born in Athens on June 27, 1947. She was the daughter of T.H. Palmer and Dollie Vernice (Jenkins) Thompson. Paulette attended Malakoff High School, and she loved working in the yard, planting flowers, painting, or remodeling. She was a loving, caring, selfless, and strong-willed woman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Rodney Howard; three brothers, Terry Palmer, Dwayne Palmer, and Ronnie Rountree; and one grandson, Trey Allen Christopher.
Survivors include her children, Laura Gillispie and husband Kyle of Overton, Shelley Pate of Athens, and Jessica Roberts of Athens; siblings, Debbie O’Neal and husband Danny of Athens and Gary Palmer and wife Denise of Athens; her grandchildren, Casey Lyles and husband Dugan, Whitney Christopher, Taylor Shay, C.J. Cowser, Drake Grammer and fiancé Emilee, and Logan Grammer; her great-grandchildren, Emma Loveless, Ella Loveless, Evie Loveless, and Jayden Rowan.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jayden Rowan, Drake Grammar, Dugan Lyles, Logan Grammer, Kyle Gillipsie, Danny O’Neal, Eric O’Neal, and Cason Svehlak.

Barbara Ann (Woldum) Blythe was born on November 6, 1936, in Decorah, Iowa. She was the daughter of Telford Hilman Woldum and Dorothy Marie (Hall) Woldum. In 1954, she graduated from Osage High School in Iowa and later worked for Sprint Telephone Company for 14 years. Barbara, the constant crafter enjoyed floral design and decorating. She was Pinterest before there was Pinterest. Her outgoing personality, her nurturing spirit, and her big heart left an indelible mark on others.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Bob Blythe of Larue; her children, Kyle Nickerson and wife Ann of Allen, Texas, Kare Peterson and husband Mike of Carver, Minnesota, and Traci Butts and husband John of Dacula, Georgia; her sister, Donna Bailey and husband Gary of Victoria, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Stephanie Fisher and husband Jason, Steven Nickerson and wife Kelly, Lukas Peterson and wife Liezel, Linsey Peterson, Ashlynn Butts, Drew Butts, Brayden Butts, and Avery Butts; and great-grandchildren, Dax Nickerson and Sloane Nickerson.

Janet passed away on April 18, 2024, in Frankston, Texas.
Janet Marie Norwood was born February 23, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Frederick Bernard Boedeker and Virginia Mildred (Carey) Boedeker. After graduating high school, she married Larry Douglas Norwood in 1965 and began raising their family. In 1976, they moved to Lufkin where Janet began her career as a school secretary at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where she also was an active member and served as a Eucharistic Minister among a myriad of other roles. She worked next as an administrative assistant for Borden Chemical in Diboll, Texas, for a number of years before moving to Athens. She joined St. Edward’s Catholic Church and served in the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, St. Edward Conference. Janet was a woman of deep faith with a servant heart and participated generously in a multitude of activities to assist the poor and spread the good news of the Gospel. She was never one to complain, always sharing her time unselfishly. She enjoyed playing games, reading books, baking, taking care of plants, and feeding her hummingbirds. Janet loved relaxing with her cherished family, especially playing games together. Her competitive spirit was unmatched. A steady rock and pillar of strength, Janet was a treasured gift who will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched and unconditionally loved.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry Norwood, brothers Frederick Bruce Boedeker and Robert Allan Boedeker, and brother-in-law James Gordon Gamble II. Janet is survived by her children, David Norwood and wife Molly of Dallas, Laura Norwood Hodgson and husband Simon of Flower Mound; siblings, Donald Carey Boedeker and wife Linda of Morrilton, Arkansas, and Beth Ann Boedeker Gamble of
Carrollton; grandchildren, Alysha Norwood Campa and husband Nathan, and Julia Tate Hodgson; one great grandchild, Nathan “Kiky” Campa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry passed away on April 18, 2024, in Frankston, Texas. Larry Douglas Norwood was born on October 10, 1939, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the son of Marion Douglas Norwood and Ella Mae (Bennett) Norwood. Larry served honorably in the
Army for six years in the United States and Germany. After serving his country, he married Janet in Dallas and started their family. Larry began his career in the transportation industry where he worked as a dispatcher for Arrow Industries from 1970 until 1976 before moving to Lufkin. He worked for Great Western Trucking and Oak Ridge Distribution, where he retired as the Director of Operations in 2006. He and Janet moved to LaRue, Texas to be near lakes, wildlife, and closer to family. Larry was an Associate Vincentian of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Edward Conference. He drove his beloved wife Janet everywhere she needed to go for her volunteer work, and he also committed himself to helping those in need. Larry was an avid bird watcher who loved participating in the annual bird count in his area. He enjoyed cooking, was a passionate fisherman, and also a teller of jokes. He was known to have a green thumb, cultivating plants of all kinds, creating a beautiful garden sanctuary at their home. He generously shared his plant cuttings with friends for propagation. Larry cherished spending time with his family and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet Norwood, and brothers-in-law Frederick Bruce Boedeker, Robert Allan Boedeker, and James Gordon Gamble II. Larry is survived by his children, David Norwood and wife Molly of Dallas, Laura Norwood Hodgson and husband Simon of Flower Mound; grandchildren, Alysha Norwood Campa and husband Nathan, Julia Tate Hodgson; one great grandchild, Nathan “Kiky” Campa; brother-in- law Donald Carey Boedeker and wife Linda of Morrilton, Arkansas, sister-in-law Beth Ann
Boedeker Gamble of Carrollton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Mix, Simon Hodgson, Nathan Campa, Sam Carey, and James David Gamble. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with a Catholic Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on

Travis Roland Kees was born August 16, 1952, in Bakersfield, California the son of Alonzie Roland Kees and Wanda Matalois (Tehee) Kees. After he graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas, he attended trade school where he learned the HVAC trade. He began his 45-year career with Cole Air Conditioning in Athens where he worked until retirement. Travis loved spending time outdoors, golfing, fishing and yardwork. He was an excellent cook and a loving caregiver of his wife Holli Kees and will be greatly missed by all he knew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Holli Jean (Boone) Kees; son Shaun Paul Kees and sister Linda Tehee Kees.
He is survived by his two sons, Travis Roland Kees II and wife Amanda of Chandler, Aaron Hoke Kees and Angela Pierce; grandson Travis “Trey” Roland Kees III and sisters in law, Kristi Willard, Ann Boone.
There will be a gathering at the Church one hour prior to the service on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

Kenneth Ross Jordan was born in Henderson, TX on March 22, 1946, to his parents Avis Waters Jordan and Virgil Jordan. His family eventually moved to the Dallas/Irving area, and he attended school in Irving. Kenny worked for Deluxe Check Printers in Dallas, TX for 30 years. He took early retirement January 1, 1996, and moved to Athens, TX with his wife Sue Jordan. He got to enjoy retirement for nearly 30 years. He loved having a few cows, riding around on his “mule”, working in his shop, and just loving life. He liked to watch NASCAR, but Drag Racing was his favorite. He loved his Dallas Cowboys but would get mad at them when they didn’t play up to par. Kenny will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents Avis (Waters) Jordan and Virgil Jordan and grandson Casey Jordan.
He is survived by his loving wife Sue Jordan; sons, Steve Jordan, and Craig Jordan, sister Debbie Smithey; niece Brandi Smithey; grandchildren, Jessie Jordan and Terrance Carter; great grandchildren, Victoria Jordan, Liam Carter, Nay’Vee Carter, Christian Carter and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He continued in restaurant management his entire career working for various corporations and owned the Pizza Inn in The Colony, Texas before retirement. Lee was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Brownsboro and loved reading his Bible, which he carried everywhere. He enjoyed watching sports but was an avid Oklahoma University fan who loved watching Sooner football and softball. He loved playing cards, shooting pool and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Ruby Lee Smith and brother in law William Putnam.

He graduated from the Houston Vocational and Technical School, received his Bachelors of Education from the University of Houston and his Masters Degree of Education from Sam Houston State before beginning his career in Education in the Houston Independent School District. Ralph also taught elementary and intermediate education at New Caney ISD in Porter, Texas and later retired from the Brazos ISD as a principal and interim Superintendent. He loved teaching and taking care of children of all ages, once owning a daycare in Houston. He was a loving brother and uncle who will be missed by all the many lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents.

Winford Wayne Weeks was born October 31, 1940, in Hope, Arkansas, the son of Henry Karl Weeks and Annie Mildred (Logan) Weeks. After graduating high school in Hope, Arkansas, he went on to attend the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he would receive his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree. Wayne achieved licensure to practice as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas and later became an owner/partner in Velvin & Weeks Consulting Engineers, Inc. where he served a wide variety of private, municipal, and utility clients for many years before retirement. He was a longtime member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers and he truly enjoyed developing property, especially building lakes and cabins for the use and enjoyment of his friends and relatives. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening or being in his shop working on his latest project to restore an unclaimed “treasure” that he found and purchased at a local estate sale.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and oldest brother Karl Logan Weeks.
He is survived by his four children, Christopher Weeks and wife Gail of New Braunfels, Jason Weeks and wife Jackie of Athens, Todd Weeks and wife Stephanie of Celina, step-daughter Stefani Worley and husband Brandon of Colorado City, Texas; two brothers, Joe Weeks of Magnolia, Arkansas, Dean Weeks and wife Kathy of Mt. Pleasant and his grandchildren, Jonathan Weeks, Derrick Weeks, Garron Weeks, Hannah Weeks, Nathan Weeks, Jake Weeks, Zackery Worley, York Worley, Ashton Worley, Kaylee Worley, Elizabeth Worley, Emma Worley, and Kyla Lopez.

Scotty Marvin Thomas was born April 29, 1951, in Naples, Texas the son of James Cecil and Claudine (Ranes) Thomas. Scotty attended Paul H. Pewitt (Omaha/Naples, Texas) School all 12 years where he was a graduate of the class of 1969 and later attended Kilgore Junior College.
From 1975-1978 Scotty was Director of Security for HCJC Henderson County Junior College in Athens. He then served 33 years in the energy industry starting in 1978 with Basic Resources, before moving to Texas Utilities Fuel Co, TXU Pipeline services and retiring from Atmos Energy in 2011 as an Environmental Specialist. After retirement, he served 6 years as County Commissioner for Henderson County.
Scotty enjoyed spending time outdoors playing tennis, ping pong, attending classic car shows, driving his red El Camino, and riding bikes. He also enjoyed the Texas Rangers and high school football. You could find him at every local high school playoff football game and at the State Track meet in Austin every year. None of these activities compared to the commitment he had to his grandchildren. He never missed an event and was passionate about supporting them and their interests. He was a servant and good Samaritan, the true meaning of loving your neighbor as yourself. He enjoyed helping others and was an amazing role model to the young men in the community. He lived a wonderful life and was impactful to everyone who came across his path. He was caring, positive, genuine, and always made you feel significant in his presence. His positive outlook on life enabled him to see the good in everyone, and in every situation.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Matti Brinkly Thomas; sisters, Sharon Thomas Moore, Sandy Thomas Wells; and brother Gary Cecil Thomas. Scotty is survived by the love of his life, wife of 40 years Patti Barnett Thomas of Cross Roads; three daughters, Jensy Bizzell and husband Ryan of Frankston, Kaci Lyford and husband Robert of McKinney, Tessie Cain and husband Casey of Bullard; Grandchildren, Brink Ryan Bizzell, Bandy Leigh Bizzell, Brody Scott Bizzell, Charli Elizabeth Geatches, Matti Brinkly Cain, Teddi Eleanor Cain; Sisters-in-law Lori Daniel and Dot Barnett; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She attended Archer City schools and attended the Academy of Mary Immaculate in Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1953 before returning to Archer City to graduate. She was an Air Force wife for many years where she travelled with her husband and family all over the country while he was serving. She then worked at Russell Stover, Sprague Electric where she built electrical capacitors and at Helmet Industries where she built fan blades on jet engines. She was a very creative and artsy woman who loved creating pottery, stained glass pieces as well as quilting and collecting bird figurines. Grandma Betty loved most of all spending time with her family and will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dennis “Ray” Moulton; son Michael Lindeman; daughter Debbie Gordon and several brothers and sisters.

Jan attended TVCC cosmetology school in 1991 spent the next 10 years cutting and styling for Classy Cuts and Green Oaks Nursing Home in Athens where she loved visiting with her clients. NaNa was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents and brother Tommy Chitty.

In 1961 she married Ben Woolverton and lived in Germany while he finished his Military service. In 1964 they moved to Malakoff, and she attended East Texas State University receiving a Master’s of Education. Carol would then spend her entire teaching career in the Cross Roads ISD for over 30 years before her retirement. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, working in the yard and antiquing, but her true joy was found volunteering in the children’s ministry and singing in the choir at First Baptist Church of Malakoff where she had been a member since 1964. Carol was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Wade Warren.

Paula Bañuelos Pinedo was born June 18, 1932, in Valparaiso, Zacatecas, Mexico the daughter of Mateo Bañuelos and Maria (Camacho) Bañuelos. She was a member of the St. Edwards Catholic Church in Athens and loved sewing, gardening, and cooking but most of all “Ma” loved spending time with her family. She was an amazing mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed by everyone who loved and knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Demetrio Pinedo and her five brothers and six sisters.
Paula is survived by her children, Gregorio Pinedo and wife Sara of Athens, Maria Del Socorro Pinedo of Athens, Anita Pinedo of Quemado, Gloria Pinedo of Quemado, Maria Pinedo of Athens, Maria de Lourdes Pinedo and husband Manuel Alcala of Athens, Ricardo Pinedo and wife Abegail of Athens, Jose Pedro Pinedo and wife Josefina of Athens, Maria Guadalupe Pinedo and husband Federico Aguilar of Athens, Demetrio Pinedo Jr of Athens, Paula Pinedo Bañuelos of Athens; sister Guadalupe Bañuelos of Chihuahua, Mexico; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, nieces, nephews and cousins.
