Obituary Preview: Robin E. Johnston, 62, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, NY. A graveside service will follow at 3:00PM, where Robin will be laid to rest with Carlos at Three Mile Bay Cemetery in Three Mile Bay, NY. Friends and family are invited to gather at The Crescent Restaurant in Chaumont, NY at 4:00PM.
Robin was born in Hamilton, NY on September 4, 1960 to the late Robert and Anna (Perry) Rowe. She married Col. Carlos C. Johnston at the Chaumont Presbyterian Church on January 15, 1994.
She worked as an Auction Clerk for most of her life, first aiding her husband’s auction business, and then working alongside her sons who continue to carry on their father’s dream. Carlos and Robin resided in Chaumont Bay, where she watched her children grow, and would often return to enjoy the lake and watch fireworks.
She could always be counted on for an impromptu road trip, especially if it had anything to do with country music. She looked forward to her late night phone calls with Ashley. Above all else, Robin loved spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, and those close to her will cherish their memories.
Robin is survived by her children; Joseph Barney, David (Aimee Salinas) Johnston, Curt (Jessica Dekin) Johnston, and, Ben (Corinne Galavitz) Johnston, her stepchildren; Clifford (Tina) Johnston, Christopher (Lori) Johnston, Kevin (Sarah) Johnston, Patricia Johnston, Chrystal (Derek) Robinson, Joyce (James) Deacons, and Amy Simmons; her siblings, Maueve (Gene) Snyder, Robert (Kathy) Rowe, Judy Mesier, Sherry (Mark) Spooner, Ronald Hendershot, Jess (Tabitha) Durant and Richard (Cindy) Rowe; as well as many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and a legacy of great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Robin is predeceased by her husband Carlos, a stepson, Keith Johnston, stepson-in-law; Bart Simmons, and siblings Marie Jock, Joseph Rich and Nancy Brothers.

At the time of his passing, his niece Kim Willis and his brother David, Sammy, Terrance, and Jamie were with him. Steve was born on December 11, 1948, in Potsdam, son of the late Roy J. and Vera (Phillips) Snyder. He married Debra Harder, and they had four children together, but separated in 1989. She predeceased him in 2007. His life partner, Carla Jebo shared a life together and had a daughter. He had certifications in plumbing and drafting in 1968, and worked at various places farming, security at the power authority, custodian at the school for 5 years and has worked at Tri Town Arena for 20 years until he retired. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing chess, collecting scrap metal where he got his nickname “Fred” Sandford & Son, and loved to spend time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his partner, Carla Jebo, his children, Terrance and Jamie Snyder of Brasher Falls, Robert Snyder and Arlena Rainwater of North Lawrence, Samuel Snyder of Brasher Falls, Candace and Garett Blair of Massena, grandchildren, Cody Snyder, Sonya Snyder and her fiancé Nick Mariano, Ian Snyder, Zachary Snyder and his fiancé, Brooke White, Ciera Snyder and Tyler Jones, Devin Merritt, Kyler Judware, Chad Snyder, Emma Snyder, Adrian Regan, Anais Blair and Thalia Blair, great grandchildren, Kaleb, Rowena, Elliott, Peyton, Nuala, and Hudson, his siblings, Henry and Jane Snyder of Potsdam, David and Mellissa Snyder, a sister in law, Lori Snyder of Massena, many nieces and nephews. Obituary Preview: North Lawrence - James M. "Jim" Sauvie, 81, passed away in the comfort of his home with his family at his bedside on Friday, May 12, 2023.
Jim was born on March 24, 1942, in Conifer, son of the late Medore and Clara (LaGray) Sauvie and graduated from Tupper Lake High School. In Ft. Jackson on November 4, 1970, he married Thiry Crump, by Justice of the Peace J. P. Streeter. They shared a loving union of 42 years until her passing on April 23, 2013.
Jim proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy. He served on several ships in food service administration. He retired from the Navy in 1990. He continued his work in food service as cook, baker, line service and management at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, for PACES at SUNY Potsdam and at Clarkson College.
He was a member of the VFW Post #7326 in North Lawrence, and the American Legion Post #514 in Winthrop. He looked forward to camping trips with his family and carpentry.

His family will receive friends on Monday from 4 pm to 7pm at Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Followed by the burial on Tuesday at 11am at the St Augustine cemetery in North Bangor.
Gary was born on September 4, 1972, the son of Gaylord and Betsy (Maxfield) Collette. He grew up in the town of Fort Jackson while working on the family farm. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central School where his passion for sports began. He married Lisa Sisto on October 23, 1999, at Sacred Heart Church in Massena and they focused their new life on each other. They shared and created many beautiful memories as a couple as they raised their children together.
Gary was employed at New York Power Authority, where he was the Director of Operations Technology. He took great pride in his work and loved his job.
He was on the Board of Education at Salmon River Central School, and a member of the North Franklin Sports Organization.
He was a great family man, coaching the kids in soccer, hockey, baseball, and lacrosse, teaching them the love of the water while boating and fishing. Gary was proud of his home and could be seen on the lawn mower, providing a special play area for his grandchildren and daycare children. Also you could find him on a golf course and a softball field. His peaceful heart and friendly nature will be missed by all that knew him.
Gary is survived by his wife Lisa, their children, Andrew and Karli Gray of Brasher Falls, Madison, Myranda, and Evan Collette, all at home, his grandchildren, Payton and Presley Gray, his parents, Gaylord and Betsy Collette of Ft. Jackson, his siblings, Laura and Randy Rockhill of Madrid, Anthony “Tony” and Michelle Collette of Florida, and Jeremy and Christina Collette of Winthrop, several nieces, and nephews.

Matt was born on January 24, 1955, in Massena, son of the late Jerry and Eunice (LaGarry) Nezezon. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central School, where he played football, hockey, and baseball. He was inducted into the SLC Hall of Fame. He married Beth Thompson on September 12, 1998. Matt retired from Reynold’s Metals in Massena, where he worked in the cast house. He also was a substitute bus driver, worked with Leo Lynch, was proud to be a Zamboni driver at Tri Town Arena and was still working at Blazing Thunder in Brasher Falls.
Matt was a member of Pair of Fours Hunting Club (family hunting club), enjoyed playing softball, hockey, bocce ball, 4-wheeling, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. He enjoyed being with friends and family, with his most special time being playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Beth, his children, Kris and Jessica Nezezon of Norwood and Kyle Shampine of Brasher Falls, his grandchildren, Cory Rowsam, Claire Nezezon, Remington Shampine, Ryder Shampine and Lennon Shampine, his siblings, Mark Nezezon of Brasher Center, Michael and Kathy Nezezon of Brasher Center, and Leslie and David Hopsicker of Norwood, his mother-in-law, Rayona Thompson of Winthrop, many nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Douglas LaGarry.

Obituary Preview: Helena- Daniel “Dan” F. Newtown passed away at home with his wife Julie and daughter Kelce at his side. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. In keeping with Dan’s wishes, there will be no public services.
Dan was born in Potsdam to Levi and Marion Newtown on February 27, 1953. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central and married the love of his life; Julie, at Bay Pond Park in Paul Smiths, NY on July 23, 1994.
Dan had a profound love for his wife, children and grandchildren who he dedicated his life to. He worked and lived on Bay Pond Park in Paul Smiths, NY for 18 years. He then retired and moved back home to Helena in 2019.
You could often find Dan at Brian’s Small Engine Repair in Norwood, and if he wasn’t there, he was in the fields or the woods hunting; all depending if it was goose or deer season. Dan was an avid hunter and fisherman who had great respect for the outdoors.
If you needed something done, you could just ask Dan. It didn’t matter what it was, he was there to help.
Dan is survived by his loving wife Julie; his children; Kelce, Devin, Danielle, Russell, Steven, Carie and Hannah; his grandchildren; Levi, Emma, Finn, Lachlan and Shelby, as well as his siblings; Lorraine, David, and brother/best friend; David Rockwood. Obituary Preview: Hannawa Falls -Gary R. Ploof, 93, passed away with his loving family by his side. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Winthrop Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Gary was born in Massena to the late Douglas and Bessie (Patraw) Ploof Sr. on March 17, 1930. He enlisted in the United States Army, attended college in West Virginia and served as a Surgical Technician until he was honorably discharged in 1950. He also worked as the Executive Housekeeper for Canton Potsdam Hospital.
Gary married Ann Curtis at the Brasher Falls United Methodist Church on July 16, 1952. “Dad always had a great sense of humor. He loved to have an audience for all the stories he told. Whenever he repeated a story, he would always enhance it to get a bigger laugh. He made many good friends through his 93 years, and will always be remembered as “Ploof the StoryTeller.” Nothing slowed Dad down, even after losing his arm at a young age and becoming a private pilot; loving to fly whenever he had the chance. We will always remember Dad taking us fishing and camping throughout the summer months.”
Gary is survived by Ann; his wife of over 70 years, his children; Timothy J. & Marilyn Ploof of Clinton, Debra & Michael Moore of Richfield Springs, Laurie Lane & Lisa Raiano of Ilion, Penny Holovitz of Frankfort, and Joann & Joe Percy of Canastota; as well as a sister; Bette & Bruce Williams of Winthrop. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchild, and nieces, and nephews.
Predeceasing him is his son; Stephen G. Ploof, and brother; Douglas D. Ploof, Pauline Kinney and Theodora Rose.

The son of Francis “Rake” and Constance Hoag LaFave, Don was born on August 11th, 1938, in Malone, NY. A lifelong resident of Brasher Falls, Don graduated from St. Lawrence Central High School and spent 30 years working for Metropolitan Life Insurance. In his career, Don earned the status of Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), the latter of which is considered to be the most respected insurance designation in the industry. Don enjoyed his job because it allowed him to help and meet people all over his beloved North Country.
Don was an avid sports fan, going to countless local hockey, baseball, and basketball events; he worked as an umpire in high school and college baseball; served as President of Tri Town Minor Hockey and Little League; and coached CYO basketball. Even when he was unable to attend games in person later in his life, Don watched them online. When not cheering on his Larries, Don loved watching his Dodgers win and the Yankees lose.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Krista. Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Laurie Saucier of Cornwall, Ontario, and their four children: Greg, Gina Beaulieu (Jim), Ritchie (Elizabeth), and Nick (Nicole). He was “Poppy” to six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his five younger sisters: Mary Gingras (Joel), Jan Hall, Debbie Ashley (Reed), Val Stickney (Jim), and Andree Tower (Al).
Visitation will be held Wednesday April 12 from 4 – 7PM at the Funeral Home.

Ron was born on February 6, 1951 in Massena, son of the late Maurice and Lucille (Leduc) Burgoyne. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central School and attended Canton ATC. He married Grace Martin on August 12, 1972, at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last August. He worked at Kraft in North Lawrence for 31 year. He then worked for AMSA Armored Car and for Massena Housing Authority. Ron was a member of the North Lawrence Fire Department at the age of 18 and then transferred to the Brasher Winthrop Fire Department where he was an active member for the past 50 years. He coached his children in youth sports and volunteered countless hours with many organizations throughout his life. He enjoyed many years playing softball, hunting, fishing, weekly card games with friends, “coffee hour” at TownLine, and nothing made him happier than his little girls- Sadie, Kacey (and Scout).
He is survived by his loving wife, Grace, their children, Kevin and Dana Burgoyne and Kristi and Brad Lincoln, two granddaughters, Sadie and Kacey, two sisters, Linda Runions (Michael Charbonneu) of Cornwall, Ontario and Eileen and Jason Cody of Chateaugay, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert, and Gary and one sister, Sally Mossow.
His family will receive friends at the Hammill Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 pm. The Brasher Winthrop Fire Department will honor Ron with a meal and gathering at 5 pm at the Brasher Winthrop Fire Station.

Michael C. Fountaine - November 17, 1963 - March 26, 2023

Obituary Preview: Swanton, VT, Michael C.Fountaine, 59, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont.
Michael was born to Lyle and Carol (Donie) Fountaine in Potsdam, NY on November 17, 1963. He graduated from Peru High School and spent a brief time in the Army and National Guard. Mike was very passionate about his work as a Job Coach for Northwestern Counseling & Support Services (NCSS) in St Albans City, Vermont. He loved his friends, and they loved him immensely as well. He had a gift with the people he worked with and will be greatly missed and will be a tough act to follow.
Michael and his partner Albert were blessed with almost 37 years together. They are affectionately known as “Champaine Fountaine”, and also as “Batman and Superman” for being each others partner-in-crime.
Besides Albert, Mike’s other love was music. He was especially partial to country music; some of his favorites included Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle. He even visited Loretta Lynn’s house and sat on her front porch. Mike's extensive collection of CD’s, rare albums and musical memorabilia is just a piece of the legacy he will leave behind. He had a big heart, was a lover of animals, and will be missed by many, including his dog; Bella.
Mike is predeceased by his mother; Carol (Donie) Fountaine; his siblings; Robert and Anita Fountaine, as well as a Nephew; Timmothy Keefe.
Surviving Michael aside from Albert is his father; Lyle Fountaine and sweetheart Mary Ann Doyle, his siblings; Katherine Fountaine, Paula Fountaine, Brenda & Louis Young, and Linda & Tony Billow; his children; Leo Champaine, Ridge Cook & Lawrence Baillargeon, and Kelly Champaine; granddaughter; Kaitlynn, brother in law; Robert Champaine; nieces and nephews; Jacob, Mckayla , Kathrine ,charliegh, Carter, Andrew, Stacey, Sean, Rosa,Brian, Robert, and Nathan, Marina, and dear friends; Karen Brace, Stacey Steady, Michelle & Richard St. Francis and Pudgy and Sandy St. Francis.

Bilodeau, sisters, Kim M. Turner, Kathy A. (Jim) Olkovikas and Karen L. (Dan) Olivier, 3 nieces, a nephew, 4 great nieces and 3 great nephews. He also had special love for his goat ladies.
His favorite thing was to sit in the sun having beverages with Lydia,so they could talk, watch the goats play and enjoy the garden. Michael was a special man and a great friend to anyone he met. He will be missed greatly..
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on July 1st at Noon at 2045 St. Hwy. 11C, North Lawrence, NY.

Obituary Preview: Brasher Falls- John M. “Johnny Mike” Keenan, 68, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family after a hard-fought battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023, from 4:00PM-7:00PM at Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls at 11:00AM. Burial will take place in the spring at the parish cemetery.
Johnny Mike was born in Massena, on February 23, 1955, to the late Jack and Marie (Foley) Keenan. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central High School and attended Canton ATC. On July 27, 1985, he married Mary Lane at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls.
For over 20 years, Johnny Mike was a board member for the Town of Brasher. He also worked at ALCOA as a millwright for many years.
He was the proud founder of the Keenan Bros. Corn Business at their family farm in Brasher Falls. Over the years, the Keenans gave several local kids the opportunity for employment. He was a proud supporter of his community, SLC Athletics, and the comradery of his friends and family.
Never a shy man, Johnny Mike was always first to introduce himself and ask “Where ya from?” Although he will be greatly missed, Johnny Mike’s stories, life lessons, and sense of humor will live on in those who loved him.
Surviving John is his wife of over 36 years, Mary; in laws; Dick & Marilyn Lane, his children; Tommy & Bobbie Keenan, Jim and Cristina Keenan, Mike & Meg Keenan, and Jack & Ashley Keenan, his siblings; Mollie (Ed) Knapp, Patrick (Mary) Keenan, Daniel (Suzy) Keenan, Kevin (Carolyn) Keenan, Mary Margaret (Mike) Gorman, and Ellen (John) Brennan, as well as his grandchildren; Olivia, Andy, Adam, Nora and Henry who were his pride and joy. Survivors also include his extended Lane Family, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was born to the late Robert and Martha (Villnave) Roach in North Lawrence on August 8, 1941. A graduate of St. Lawrence Central School in Brasher Falls, Rita worked as a personal care aid at LBSH Housing Corporation, where she also lived at the time of her passing. She married Clarence Meacham on May 27, 1961 at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence. Rita married David "Huffer" Gebo on June 20, 1992, He passed on February 24, 2004.
Besides her parents; she is predeceased by her husband; David "Huffer" Gebo; and her brothers; Phil Roach and Ronny Roach and her companion for 13 years, Leo Lynch.
Surviving Rita are her children; Amy & Patrick Thompson of Woodside and Darrin & Tina Meacham of North Lawrence, as well as her grandchildren; Cody, Cole, and Ty Meacham, and Emily Madlin.
A graveside service will be held in the summer, where Rita will be laid to rest with "Huffer" at St. Lawrence Cemetery in North Lawrence. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home where memories and words of condolence can be shared at www.hammillfh.com.

Pat was born Aug. 27, 1933 in Irondequoit to Arthur and Dorothy (Bender) Marks. She graduated from West Irondequoit High School in 1950 and attended classes at Brockport State College. She lived in Irondequoit until her late 60s, when she moved to her summer home in Chaumont, next door to daughter Joanne Galavitz, who dedicated so many years going above and beyond to her comfort and care.
Patricia was a brilliant pianist, a talented graphic artist, a movie buff, a news junkie, and could always be counted on to make a delicious homemade meal. She was a seamstress of the first kind, and found a love for knitting in her later years, often making gifts for friends and family.
Pat was predeceased by her parents, her son Stephan Cidoni and her former husband Joseph Cidoni.
She leaves behind children Joanne Galavitz of Chaumont and Michael Cidoni Lennox and his husband Brian Lennox of Rochester, granddaughter Corinne “Corey” Galavitz and her husband Ben Johnston of Central Square, “great granddaughter” Stacia Johnston of Potsdam, as well as dear friends Bobby Eckert, Nancy and Scott Mescon, Robin Johnston, Charlie Richardson —and her longtime feline companion Gizzy.

Born in Oxford, England on July 14, 1950, Paul is the son of the late Don and Marion(Beacham) Lindsay. He moved to the United States in 1955 with his mother.
He is survived by his wife, of 47 years, Sherry, daughter Brooke and Dan, son, Christopher and Lisa and grandsons, Ephrem and Corban and granddaughter, Makayla, great granddaughter, Pasleigh and great grandson, Paxton, brother, Steve and sister, Barbara and Steve, several nieces and nephews.
Sports were his life. Cross country running was his “heart”. He set records in high school and was caption of his cross country team. He received his Associates Degree in Business Administration from Canton ATC and went on to Plattsburgh State. He played adult soccer, hockey, basketball, and broomball.
He coached his son and daughter in soccer. He lived to spectate his son’s, daughter’s, and both grandson’s sporting events in soccer, football, lacrosse, baseball, hockey and basketball.
He served in the US Navy on the USS Albany from May 1973 to March 1974. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Navy in 1974 and was active in reserves for 2 years.
He loved life and everything in it. He had many friends, but “Pugger” and “Chicken Hawk” were lifelong and steadfast.

A millwright mechanic, who dedicated 40 plus years at ALCOA. Gary loved spending time at home with Debbie tinkering, lounging in his chair with his dog Bella, summers gardening, walking, and looking forward to beating his brother Jerry at golf.
He loved his girls fiercely, spending time with his grandchildren and was the king of dad jokes.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie; four daughters, Jennifer (Dylan) Hays, Jill (Pete) Petrilli, Jaime (Rob) Bicknell, and Gina Byington Pryce; step - son Eric (Jen) Tyo; grandchildren, Karleigh, Norah, and Jayne Hays, Rylie, Sloane, and Averie Bicknell, Kaelin and Laken Pryce; his siblings, Francis ‘Bud’ and Grace Byington, William Byington, Joan Kent, Janice Tackett, Gerald and Carol Byington, Dale Byington, Gail and Mike Murtagh; many nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved k9 companion, Bella.

Margaret enjoyed driving her school bus. That school bus took her to many destinations during her career. She transported three generations of children to school and activities, which she loved.
Besides her parents, Margaret is predeceased by her loving husband, James; her sisters; Rosetta St. Hilaire and Betty McLaughlin, and her brother; Joseph Gardner.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Scott Scheepers of Winchester, Ontario, Canada, two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Ashton, her siblings, Kurt and Wilma Blackmer of Canton, Joyce Blackmer of Montana, Jennie Blackmer of Syracuse, Chris Blackmer and Kermit Blackmer of Syracuse, a sister-in-law, Roberta Blackmer of Utica, several nieces, and nephews. Besides her husband, Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Roger Blackmer, Douglas Blackmer, Vicky Blackmer, Tee-Dee Whiteford and Bernita Cota.

He entered the US Army in 1966, serving during the Vietnam War. He was married Meredith Thomas, and from that relationship came his three children. He worked for Midstate Elevator, then as a bus driver for St. Lawrence Central School, retiring in 2010. Brian was superintendent of Tri Town Arena for several years. He was a member of the Brasher Winthrop Fire Department, and a commissioner for the Brasher Winthrop Fire District.
He is survived by his children; Jacque Perrier of Boiling Springs, SC, Juli and Nick Hence of Winthrop and Jon Paul Perrier of Winthrop, his sister, Jeanette Missigman of Syracuse, three grandchildren, Shelby Perrier of Boiling Springs, SC, Briane Taylor of Winthrop, and Blake Hence of Clarksville, IN, a great grandson, Thomas Leuck of Boiling Springs, SC, also leaving behind many nieces and nephews.
