Wilfred Patnode, Jr. - September 19, 1949 - March 12, 2024

Departed: 03/12/2024 (Keeseville)
Obituary Preview: Wilfred W. Patnode, Jr. 74, of Standish Street, Plattsburgh, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Meadowbrook Healthcare, Plattsburgh with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Paterson, NJ on September 19, 1949, the son of Wilfred and Mary (George) Patnode, Sr.
Wilfred, known as Bill, led a life well-lived. A skilled mechanic and talented car body man, he turned his early love of cars into a decades long career. Bill travelled to Brownsville, Texas as a young man in one of the only new vehicles he owned, a 1959 GMC SC Rambler.
While in Texas, he did mission work with the catholic church, earned money working on vehicles and participating in numerous shenanigans that resulted in many spellbinding and usually hilarious tales that he expertly shared with family, friends and sometimes strangers. He continued his mission work with the Plattsburgh Methodist Church in his later years with many trips to Maine helping those who were less fortunate.
Bill shared his automotive talents with Dick’s Customizing, Cumberland Ford, Durocher Auto Sales and a few other local establishments until he landed a job with the New York State Department of Conservation as a shop mechanic. Once employed with NYSDEC, Bill joined CSEA and served as Shop Steward and then become President of the local. Bill was always happy to do whatever he could to help others and he showed this willingness with his accomplishments and time served in the union.
Bill’s leadership abilities and inclination to help others drew him to the Keeseville Elk’s Lodge #2072. Soon after joining, Bill decided to become an officer within the organization. He progressed through the ranks to the position of Exulted Ruler in 1992 and led a productive year for the Keeseville Lodge. Bill initiated the building of a pavilion and he successfully organized numerous events for the membership and the local public.
Singing was a passion of his entire life. Bill sang many choirs and choruses through the years including the Cumberland Bay Barbershop Chorus and the Keeseville-Peru Ecumenical Choir. Even as he was struggling with his health, Bill performed with the Barbershop Chorus just last year. Bill shared his love of music with his children and grandchildren.
Bill always included his children in his interests and activities. His son, William, and his daughters, Wendy and Tabetha could often be found by his side. Whether on stage during a Barbershop Chorus performance, singing in the annual Ecumenical Christmas concert or shucking clams at the Elks Lodge, Bill usually had at least one of his children in tow.
Bill was also a huge fan of NASCAR racing and watched the races regularly. Bill could also be found square dancing with the North Country Squares where he met his second wife, Lorraine. Bill enjoyed spending time outside with his dogs, usually while fiddling with one of his many project vehicles. Anywhere Bill went, he made friends. He was always curious and willing to learn. His spirit lives on in his children.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Lorraine (Floyd) Patnode; his children, Wendy (Patnode) Cribb, William Patnode and wife Asana, and Tabetha Patnode and partner Michael Polhemus, grandsons Alex and Oliver Cribb and William, Darius and Elijah Patnode. His brothers Richard Patnode and wife Nancy, and Bob Patnode and partner Raymond Stimson. His first wife JennieLou Pray and many beloved cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother James Patnode.

He was born in Plattsburgh on January 17, 1954, the son of Leo and Mary (Waldron) Bourey.
George grew up in a busy household! Besides chores, George and his siblings played various sports together, along with the classic: Kick the Can.

For the last race George watched on November 5, 2023, his son's driver, Ryan Blaney, won the Cup Championship. George was a man of great selflessness. He always put others before himself.
