Mr. Donnie A. Brown, age 72 of East Spencer, passed on, Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at his residence. He was born on October 17, 1949 in Rowan County to, Addie E. Brown (Hargrave) and the late Samuel C. Brown. Donnie was a graduate of Dunbar High School and retired from GDX as a Draft Technician. He was a faithful member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee, an usher and custodian. He was also a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, a member of Western Star Lodge #9, and was a dedicated and loyal employee of Hairston Funeral Home for many years.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his sister, Jean B. Ingram and brother, Ronnie Brown.
Those who will forever cherish his memory are his wife, Julia Brown of the home, mother, Mrs. Addie E. Hargrave, East Spencer; children; Derick Brown, (Dionne), Charlotte; DeVona Brown, Silver Springs, MD; Demar Archie (Patricia), Spencer and Donovan Archie, Ohio; sister, Sarah Burris, Chesapeake, Va., and brothers; Samuel Brown (Doris), Salisbury;and David Brown (Monica), Germany; uncle, James Staley (Norma), Salisbury, six grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and the Hairston Funeral Home Staff.

Obituary Preview: Ms. Sylvia Givens Breedlove of Salisbury, passed, Saturday, March 19, 2022.  Born on November 9, 1952 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late, Robert Gill Givens, Sr. and Thelma Smoot Givens.  She was a graduate of Borden High School and attended Delmar College in Corpus Christi, Texas.  She was previously employed with Salisbury/Rowan Schools in the Early Childhood program. She was a member of Thomas St.Church of Christ, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher/Secretary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Breedlove, and brothers, Leonard Calvin Givens and Robert Gill Givens, Jr.
Those who remain to cherish fond memories are sons; Ronald J. Breedlove, Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Robert J. Breedlove, Florida and Ryan J. Obituary Preview: Our dear beloved Hazel Louise Archie Chambers, age 72 of Salisbury, passed, Friday, February 18, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Rowan County on December 23, 1949 to the late Rayfield Archie and Mamie Hairston Archie.  She was a graduate of Dunbar High School class of 1968, graduated from the Career Academy, Washington, D.C. as a Medical Assistant and earned an Associates Degree from Rowan Community College in practical nursing.  She was a Licensed Practical Nurse, having retired from Novant Health Medical Center. after many years of dedicated service to the medical community.  She was also an honorably discharged Veteran of the United States Air Force. She was a life-long member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she previously served as an usher, church nurse and was a missionary.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three sister's; Laura Hairston, Emma A. Hunter and Barbara Hairston.
Those who remain to cherish fond memories are her daughter, Carlotta Chambers-Ramseur (Derek) of Cleveland, NC, brother; Harvey Archie, Sr., Salisbury, NC and sister, Rev. Ruby Steele, Spencer, NC, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Obituary Preview: Our beloved Rachel Ann Wright, age 59 of Winston-Salem, passed, Monday, January 24, 2022 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina after a brief illness.  She was born on November 23, 1962 in St. Paul, Minnesota to the late Eva Lee Wright and was reared in the loving home of the late Mennie Green and Gilmer Green.  She was a graduate of Lexington Senior High School, Davidson Community College and Catawba College.  She was last employed as a private CNA.  She enjoyed helping her neighbors in the community by providing transportation when they needed it.
She was of the Christian faith, loved the Lord and was an awesome singer.
In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by a brother, Joe Lewis Wright, Mennie and Gilmer Green, (parent's who raised her) and many other close family members.
Those who remain to forever cherish her loving memory are her children, Rebecca Wright Hairston, Tommy H. Eva was a loving mother and enjoyed being with her family. She will be solely missed by all who knew her and loved her.

He was born in Rowan County on, Aug. 28, 1953 to the late Herbert A. Hunter and Cory Selena Stinson Hunter. He was a graduate of West Rowan High School. He furthered his education at Rowan Cabarrus Community College where he received certification in Heating and Air Conditioning. He was last employed at GDX Automotive as a machine operator.
Bernard was a funeral attendant at Hairston Funeral Home for many years and along with his loving wife, Emma was very supportive of the firm.  He was also a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee.
Bernard was very skilled in computer technology and heating and air installation and repairs, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Emma Archie Hunter; sisters, Ida Hargrave, Mabel Burns, Nancy E. Hunter, and Mayzella Forney; brothers, Albert Hunter, James Hunter, Daniel Hunter, Calvin Hunter, and Oscar Hunter.
Survivors include brother, Mr. Alonzo S. Hunter (Rachel), East Spencer; sisters, Estell Salters, and Margaret Hunter, both of Roanoke, Va.; step-daughter, Cassandra Walker, New York; grandson raised in the home, Preston Wallace, III; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and dear friends.

Obituary Preview: Our beloved Barbara Jean Hairston, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin,and friend, answered God's call on, Friday, December 3, 2021 at Compass Healthcare and Rehab, Spencer, NC.  Ms. Barb was born on September 19, 1937 to the late Mamie Hairston Archie.  She attended Dunbar High School and enjoyed working in the Rowan/Salisbury Schools maintenance department for many years until her retirement.
She was a faithful member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she served for many years on the usher board, kitchen committee, and missionary ministries.  She was also an active member of the Hairston Clan Family Reunion committee, Salisbury branch. She volunteered at the Salvation Army for many years before her health declined.
She was very well known at the Compass Healthcare facility where she resided for five years.  She met many new friends at the facility and thoroughly enjoyed the many activities provided, especially bingo games.
In addition to her loving mother, she is preceded in death by sisters, Laura Lizzie Hairston and Emma Archie Hunter.
We shall forever keep our beloved Barbara Jean Hairston in our hearts as she will be solely missed by her children, Judy Phillips (John), and Tommy H. Hairston, Sr. (Velveeta); her grandchildren; Charles Dillard,(Susan); Claytonia Dillard, Rebecca Wright Hairston, Tommy H. Hairston, Jr., John Phillips, Jr. (Shashonda), Yolanda Nunn, Janeen Reid, and  Damond Reid; her sisters, Rev. Obituary Preview: Mr. Claude Edward Gillespie known as "Yogi and Boo Boo", age 55 of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away from this life on, Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC.     He was born June 29, 1965 in Salisbury, NC to the late Peggy Mitchell Holmes and Sylvester Williams.     Mr. Gillespie attended school in Rowan County.  He worked in construction in earlier years.  He never met a stranger and always greeted others with a smile.
He loved his family.
