Antonio "Tony" Ortiz - May 02, 1938 - February 22, 2024

Departed: 02/22/2024 (San Angelo)
Obituary Preview: Antonio "Tony" Gallegos Ortiz Sunrise May 2, 1938, Sunset February 22, 2024 Antonio was known for his mastery of Mexican Pastries and his cooking skills and if you ever had the pleasure to experience any of his pastries, you were sure to not soon forget them. He was also a lover of poetry and loved to recite poems by memory of some of his favorite poets from his native land, Mexico. Antonio lived 85 life-filled summers and had been a resident of San Angelo, Texas since 1973.  He was called home to his Heavenly Father after many years of dialysis, the race is finished.  His family is eternally grateful that the good Lord was merciful as he was blessed with a peaceful transition and loved ones were able to be present at his passing.  Our prayer to the Lord was that he allow him to come to Him in passing and be made whole
Antonio Gallegos Ortiz was born May 2, 1938, in San Martin de Hidalgo, Jalisco, Mexico to parents Juan Ortiz and Maria del Carmen Gallegos Ortiz whom he cherished and remembered fondly as only a dedicated son can love his parents.
Our father, Antonio, lived a humble life and often shared many memories of his adventures as a child and young man in his native land, Mexico, which he carried in his heart and never forgot.
Antonio was a great adventurer until meeting the love of his life, Lydia Ramos in 1967 in the Villadama neighborhood of Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico. They married 5 months later, on July 24, 1968.  Antonio and Lydia soon started their family, their children meant the world to them. Juan Ortiz and wife Brenda Cortez Ortiz, María del Carmen Ortiz, Diana Ortiz Tovar (deceased), Guadalupe Ortiz, partner Reymundo Leyva Grado Jr. and Ana María Ortiz.  Antonio is also survived by his sister, Maria del Refugio Espinoza.  He was also preceded in death by great-granddaughter, Aubrey Miranda.
Our family is filled with lots of love and will cherish wonderful memories, adventures, trials, and tribulations we were blessed to experience alongside our father Antonio. The stories are countless, not only with the immediate family but also with our extended family and our childhood friends, who are like family. Antonio was a man of few words but had a profoundly deep wisdom and freely shared that with his children and those who were a part of his life. He provided for his family faithfully and though he could be short on patience and had a short fuse at times he was great at making us laugh and laugh hard at that.
Antonio was super proud of becoming a grandfather. He loved all his grandchildren despite the language barrier, love does not allow that. As with his children, many memories were made that they can share for years to come. He was a father figure to most of his grandchildren and loved doing so and they were blessed with his wisdom and guidance, Jesús Tovar, fiance Ashley Monique Herrera, María de Jesús Tovar, Alyssa Elvena Hogue partner Alex Blackwell, Genesis Tovar, Ariana Elvena, fiancée Christopher Ynostrosa, Alexandrea Dayao, Juan Ángel Ortiz, Ayissa Ortiz. Mireya McNees and Sophia McNees.
Great grandchildren, Anthony Montoya, Carlos Jaime Tovar, Enrique Tovar, Noel Tovar, José Jaime Guerra III, Jesus Antonio Tovar, Donta Furlow-Jones, Antonio Jesús Tovar, Joaquinn Miranda, Pedro Miranda, Ember Diana Ynostrosa, Aayla Evelyn Grace Blackwell, Adelita Blackwell and a baby on the way, Nataliya Ortiz. Bonus great grandchildren Tristan Hogue, Taylor Hogue, Hernan Espinola, Osvaldo Espinola and Christopher Jeremiah Ynostrosa.
Antonio had an immense respect for nature and animals; the many stray cats he fed are testament to that. We had many pets of various kinds growing up. That is where we learned the deep respect for life. Our father was a lover of life of all kinds. Words used by his family to describe him are as follows: “fuerte” (strong), brave, provider, constant, compassionate, independent, humble, chill, and wise to name a few.
Antonio had many people in his life that were proud to call him not just “Tio” but “El Tio.”  His nieces and nephews he left behind in Mexico to whom he was a father figure before starting his own family, Lalo, Consuelo, Jaime, Roberto, Tito, Ricardo, Dani, Martin, Marcela, María del Carmen, Alberto, Guadalupe, María, María del Carmen García Espinoza, Gerardo, y Blanca to name a few.  I would be negligent to my father’s memory if I did not acknowledge them.
Antonio was a baker by trade and worked for several grocery store bakeries; Albertson's, H-E-B, and Azteca, all were blessed to have had him as an employee. He owned and operated several bakery shops of his own. Antonio made many friends during his time as a baker, and we have met many people who worked with him throughout the years that knew him as " Tony " and all shared what a character he was and how they loved working with him and sharing stories and laughs that made working well worth the while.
Antonio will hold a permanent light that shines eternally in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family and all who knew him.
Antonio was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Maria del Carmen Ortiz, his brother Pedro, his sisters Maria de Jesus (Yolanda) and Martha Ortiz. His most beloved daughter, Diana Ortiz Tovar. They are sure to be celebrating in God's Kingdom as we speak and will faithfully watch over us until we meet again.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels, 1002 North Oakes, San Angelo, Texas 76903 as well as on Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. led by Deacon Abel Fernandez.  A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 301 West 17th Street, San Angelo, Texas, with interment to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM Hwy. 1223, San Angelo, Texas.

Ishma Angel Deon Parker - April 18, 2007 - December 30, 2023

Departed: 12/30/2023 (San Angelo)
Obituary Preview: Little Ishma Parker Little Ishma Parker enjoyed playing video games,
And making us laugh until we had stomach pains. To catch him with a smile on his face was rare,
Because hunni… Little Ishma was too cool for that there. So, we caught our wins wherever we could,
And we accepted his tough exterior as we should. He would take toys apart at a very young age,
And put them back together… like turning a page. As he got older the toys became somewhat large,
And we prayed all the time… that God be in charge. This little boy began to drag home things with engines,
And we secretly prayed it be no more than a nest of pigeons. But ohhh no Little Ishma Parker made that dirt bike run,
And off he went in the hot scorching sun. After that broke down, we were happy as could be, we were happily humming, Well low and behold he drag home a big old busted up, broke down, ugly motorcycle… wow, didn’t see that coming!!! We secretly laughed, ain’t no way he’ll fix that big beat up, old piece of junk from out of space,
By no way were we being mean… we just wanted him safe. Well after days of banging, tapping, knocking, and all that stuff,
Again, he got it going like it was built Ford tough. OMG, we were all so happy when that too fell apart,
We could breathe, again it eased our hearts. But many many months after that something larger came in to play,
It was the infamous red car Little Ishma Parker bought home one day. We hadn’t seen the red car Little Ishma Parker spoke of everyday,
But he’d go check on it wherever it was… that car was his shine of ray. He was determined to buy it and he did just that you guys,
And he loved, loved, loved that red car, it became the glimmer in his eye. Very short lived as it apparently was,
His newly bought car became the buzz. However, Little Ishma Parker was taken by the hand,
And led to a different path… where the streets are gold, as is the sand. Oh God!!! Where am I, what have I done,
You’ve done nothing…. You’ve found your way home my son. You see I allowed you to enjoy life there on earthly grounds,
Now you’re in My house where you can quiet the sounds. So many voices and brain just working overtime,
Relax My son… for you were always mine. No more aimless wondering, no more this, no more that, Look, there’s a 67 beat up chevy…. Why don’t you restore it back? Wow, yes… God can I really work on that car???
Of course, My Child… you’ve traveled this far. Oh, but wait God I forgot to tell everybody bye,
My mom, dad, sister, and little brother who’s the apple of my eye. Mom, Dad, please forgive me for making you worry and putting you through so much pain,
But I had no idea, what happened needed to happen… So, God could do his thang. Which was to save me from a world of chaos and mind going 24/7,
The only way to do that was to get me here to Heaven. J’Malachi, I’m sorry little brother that I scared you all the time,
And you can change the room around if you want to… I really don’t mind. Up here my room is so big Malachi, I could drive a hummer up here,
Don’t be sad little brother… I’ll always be near. Divine, Little Sis, I’m sorry things turned out this way,
But save those tears for some other day. Only one can understand the beauty of my flight,
See ya’ll on the other side family… so long and goodnight.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels, 1002 North Oakes Street, San Angelo, Texas. Norma Narviz - October 24, 1960 - December 23, 2023

Departed: 12/23/2023 (San Angelo)
Obituary Preview: All the words you’d use to describe a good mother—that’s who Norma Lee Narviz was. She was a nurturer who loved to feed and care for others. She was a selfless giver who put the needs of others above her own. And she loved unconditionally, no matter who you were or where life had taken you.
Norma was born on October 24, 1960 in San Angelo, Texas to Maria de Jesus Esparza and Macario Liserio Zapata, Jr. Her childhood was cut short after her mother passed when she was just 13 years old, leaving her to help raise her brother and sisters—Edward Zapata, Irene Torres, Peggy Holcomb, and Liz Zapata. She also had an older half brother, Armando Melgoza.
Norma met Jessie Narviz, the man she would spend the rest of her life with, when they were both teenagers. She was immediately drawn to him because he was fit and tall (though she would later learn that it was just his high-soled shoes), and he was drawn to her wit and beauty. They got married on May 31, 1975, Jessie joined the Marines, and they escaped to North Carolina to start their lives together.
In 1980, their first daughter Ivett Narviz Ramirez was born, and Norma was back in mom mode. Their next base assignment led them to California in 1984 where they had their first and only son, Anthony “AJ” Narviz. Norma’s worries about her father made her more and more homesick, so they moved back to San Angelo and bought a small house. Then in 1992, her youngest daughter Jennifer Narviz Jones made her appearance—her “miracle baby” as she called her.
Norma went back to school at Howard for her Associate’s degree, and then got her Bachelor’s degree from Angelo State University. Her passion for caring for others led her into teaching, then into CPS case work until she retired.
Norma may not have been a deeply religious woman, but she was a spiritual one. She believed that if you dropped a spoon or fork on the floor, you better step on it because an unexpected visitor was coming. She believed watching scary movies brought those spirits into your home. And she believed that karma would always come back to you.
Besides her children, she fiercely loved her grandchildren: Daniel Narviz, Yvanna Narviz, Tristan Narviz, Nathan Palos, Cadence Palos, and Aiden Narviz. She also loved her nephew Aaron Holcomb, daughter-in-law Crystal Narviz, and sons-in-law Ren Jones and Joey Ramirez like they were one of her own kids. She had many friends, but her best friends were Shannon Zuniga, Rhonda Varney, and Mandy Archer.
Norma also loved to dance. Before her legs failed her, she could spend the whole night on the dance floor, which she and Jessie often did when they were younger. A few nights before she passed, she appeared in her daughter Ivett’s dream. In it, she jumped out of her hospice bed, danced with joy, and said not to be sad or worried–she could dance again.
Norma cumbia’ed into the night sky around 10:24 p.m. on December 23, 2023 at the Sterling County Nursing Home. Her family would like to give a special thank you to her nurses at Shannon hospital who Norma described as being “like family,” and to the nurses at Sterling County Nursing Home who helped make her final days as joyful and comfortable as possible.

Oscar Samaripa - August 13, 1954 - December 09, 2023

Departed: 12/09/2023 (San Angelo)
Obituary Preview: The Lord spoke to the heavy hearts that stood with hats in hand, and said I needed one more cowboy and Oscar fit right in.  Oscar passed from this life on Saturday, December 9, 2023, in San Angelo, Texas.  His days in the saddle are done.
Oscar was born on August 13, 1954, to Cecil Samaripa and Cruz Martinez Samaripa in San Angelo, Texas.
There is nothing quite like the bond between a horse and his rider. It defined who Oscar was and putting that love and feeling into words is difficult, especially when someone has never had that bond.  Oscar loved his horses and the touch of a warm nose on him always brought a smile and the thunder of his hooves as they rode through the shoot during roping events.  In addition to his love of horses and roping, Oscar excelled in the sport of baseball, having played for the Central High School baseball team as well as for the Southside Lions.
Oscar will be forever loved and forever remembered by his son, Oscar Samaripa, Jr. and wife, Gladys, as well as his sister, Irma S. Jaques.  He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Omar Samaripa, and Oliana Samaripa.  Oscar was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Cruz Samaripa and brother, Cecil Samaripa, Jr.
Oscar’s fighting spirit, fierce love for horses and roping, and concern for those around him will be dearly missed and his friends stand with hats in hands to bid him fond goodbyes.
No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned.
