Troy Allan Schoonover - October 05, 1962 - April 24, 2024

Obituary Preview: BLUE MOUNDS - Troy Schoonover, 61, of Blue Mounds, Wis., died peacefully at home on April 24, 2024, after showing amazing strength following his colon cancer diagnosis in 2020.
Troy was born in Fond du Lac on Oct. 5, 1962, to Sandra Franson (nee Williams) and Allan Schoonover. He spent his childhood in North Dakota where he enjoyed playing sports and taking part in some daring outdoor adventures. He moved back to Wisconsin and graduated from Oregon High School and worked at Certco Inc., for 34 years before retiring in 2021.
Everyone who knew Troy knew how much he loved sports, fantasy football, fishing, sci-fi, and music by Rush. He could talk for days about any of those topics. Gerbs had many memorable fishing trips with his brother, Seth, and other fishing buddies and was an avid musky hunter with numerous trophy fish to his credit. He especially had good luck in the fall, sometimes referring to himself as Mr. November.
Troy and Heather (nee Steele) were married on June 26, 1993, and have two amazing daughters, Sierra and Mia. Even though his daughters didn’t share his love of sports, you could find him cheering them on at their numerous music and theater events.
In addition to his parents, wife and daughters, he is also survived by his stepmother, De Schoonover; siblings/step siblings, Seth (Laura) Schoonover, Hope Hefty, Cyd (Pat) Davidson, David (Amy) Franson, and Paul (Deb) Franson; as well as beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and dear friends.
Troy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jay and Clara Schoonover and Hank and Belva Williams; stepfather, Dale Franson; and stepbrothers, Steve Davidson and Peter Franson.
We will miss Troy every day and his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Special thanks to Dr. Dustin Deming and team from UW Carbone Cancer Center and to the Heartland Hospice team for providing care which allowed him to remain at home these last few weeks.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO MOUNT HOREB FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.

Robert William Prochaska - January 25, 1960 - April 22, 2024

Obituary Preview: Blue Mounds - Robert William “Bob” Prochaska, age 64, of Blue Mounds, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024, at home. He was born on Jan. 25, 1960, in Dodgeville, the son of John "Jack" and Patricia (Scullion) Prochaska.
Bob graduated from Mount Horeb High School, where he excelled at sports and pranks. He was an accomplished trumpeter and won many state titles and awards.
Following high school, Bob worked for Cub Foods as a manager, and after graduating from Madison College as a journeyman plumber, he worked for Mount Horeb Plumbing for over 20 years. He also owned Prochaska Trucking. He particularly enjoyed working at Tellurian Ucan, where he was much loved by staff and patients.
Bob took very good care of his trucks and taught his children to do so as well. "A clean car is a happy car." He had an epic sense of humor and told lots of "dad jokes." Bob loved his dogs, was a gun collector, and liked hunting and target shooting. Camping, which eventually became “glamping,” was something that brought him joy. He was a lover of music across genres ranging from classics to reggae. Bob was a member of the NRA, a supporter of St. Jude Children’s Hospital and a member of various plumber's unions over the years.
Bob is survived by his son, Jacob (Emily Martin) Prochaska; two daughters, Rebecca (Jason Disch) Prochaska and Tania Prochaska; brother, Tom “Pud” Prochaska; sister, Lynn Prochaska; nephew, Scott Prochaska; and two nieces, Tara Prochaska and Sara Paulson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John "Jack" and Patricia Prochaska; brother, John Prochaska; grandparents, Emmett and Evelyn Scullion; and nephew, Jason Friske.
A visitation will be held at Gunderson Camacho Mount Horeb Funeral and Cremation Care, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024.
Memorials may be made to Tellurian Ucan or the Iowa County Humane Society.

Obituary Preview: MADISON / MIDDLETON- Beverly J. Skinner, age 80, of Middleton, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Sage Meadow of Middleton. She was born on April 14, 1944, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Earl and Jessie (Boyles) Anderson.
Beverly was a Class of 1962 graduate of Monona Grove High School. She worked as a CNA at St. Mary's Hospital, as a data entry clerk for WPS, and was the owner of Bev's Cleaning. She was a member of USO and liked to dance and listen to local bands like Universal Sound and Night Hawk. She also loved her cats.
Beverly is survived by her son, Kevin (Angela) Skinner; daughter, Becky Skinner; granddaughters, Bridget (Jack) Coleman, Brittany (Tyler Heuer) Skinner, Ciera (Jason) Morel, Alanna Kennedy, and Kyla Sutter; grandsons, Brandon Skinner, Taylun Kennedy and Brandon Sutter; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Callen, Owen, Malakai, Sofia and Layla; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to SSM Hospice or the Dane County Humane Society.

Anthony Joseph "Tony" Ayers - July 18, 1958 - April 12, 2024

Obituary Preview: MOUNT HOREB - Tony Ayers, age 65, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024. Tony, the sixth child of seven, was born to Roy and Lorraine Ayers on July 18, 1958, in Dodgeville, Wis.
Tony attended elementary and junior high in Ridgeway and graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1976. Tony started working at the family business, Ayers Furniture, as a young boy, making it his life’s work. He eventually became an owner of Ayers Furniture. Tony embraced his small town of Ridgeway where he knew everyone and greeted each person by name. He was the first to offer his help and energy; he cared for others deeply.
Tony found his perfect match in a sweet farm girl, Kristie Karls from Pine Bluff, Wis. The couple married at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Pine Bluff on Feb. 13, 1982. They welcomed a son, Adam, who Tony said was the best son and friend anyone could ask for. Tony enjoyed watching Adam in all his athletic events and attending Badger games with him. Tony’s beautiful rose, Kristie, preceded him in death on April 5, 2022.
On a summer day Tony could be found on his bike or working in his yard and feeding and watching the birds. Tony was an avid storyteller.
Tony is survived by his son, Adam, daughter-in-law, Anna, and grandsons, Aden and Theo Ayers, of Oconomowoc. He is further survived by his six siblings, Lynne (Dave) Rufenacht of Monroe, Kathy Ayers of Madison, Mari Pat (Tom) Wittwer of Waunakee, Gerry (Cindy) Ayers of Dodgeville, Rick (Sheri) Ayers of Blue Mounds, and Anita (GR) Lyons of Janesville; his brother and sisters-in-law, Kathy (Pat) Acker of Black Earth, Audrey Braucher of Madison, Louise (Dan) Beuthin of Cross Plains, Sue (Mick) Kalscheur of Waunakee, and Gary (Cherri) Karls of Blue Mounds; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, many of which he was their godfather, a role which he was proud. He took this role to heart; he was an active participant and advocate in their lives, eager to attend their events. Family was paramount to Tony; he was a selfless and loyal servant. He was a faithful and devoted Catholic. He coveted the happiness of others and the connections he shared with them.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kristie; parents, Roy and Lorraine Ayers; his parents-in-law, Joe and Loretta Karls; a nephew, Troy Beuthin; and two brothers-in-law, Bob Braucher and Tim Malec. This world is better for having had Tony in it; he will be missed by all those who loved and knew him. For the first time, “the Ayers Goodbye” went way too fast.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. IGNATIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 109 S. Sixth St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Burial will be held at St. Ignatius Calvary Cemetery, Mount Horeb. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO MOUNT HOREB FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday.

Obituary Preview: Cross Plains / Mazomanie - Raeanne M. Randall, age 68, of Cross Plains, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on March 2, 1956, in Madison, the daughter of Raymond and Kathleen (Shackleton) Randall.
Raeanne graduated in 1974 from Wisconsin Heights High School, where she went on to work as an aide for 28 years.
Raeanne was union president for five years and past president of American Legion Post 437 Auxiliary, Mazomanie. She was involved in the R&R Theatre Group and spent many years on the Mazomanie Village Board. Raeanne was very crafty and loved creating art, with woodworking being one of her favorites. She had a green thumb and enjoyed planting.
Raeanne is survived by her son, Zachary LaCourt; grandson, Brody Randall; five sisters, Cathy (Mike) Barman, Cherrise (Todd) Miller, Patty (Dave) Marking, Dawn (Donnie) Randall-Anderson and Anna (Chris) Wold; daughter-in-law, Jodi (Nick) Frank; and uncle, John Shackleton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Kathleen Randall; son, Jason Randall; sister, Mary (Bert) Schmitz; brother-in-law, Mike Barman; nephew, Claire Erikson; and two uncles, Art Shackleton and Larry Shackleton.
A celebration of life will be held at GRANDMA MARY’S CAFÉ, 175 US Highway 14, Arena, Wis., from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

Obituary Preview: MOUNT HOREB - Gerald Joseph "Jerry" Haglund, age 84, passed away at UW Hospital on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. He was born in Dodgeville, Wis., on Feb. 12, 1940, the youngest child of the late Martin and Mabel (Owens) Haglund. He grew up in Barneveld and graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1958.
Jerry was employed as a meat cutter for over 50 years at several area businesses, including Kahl and Nygaard Grocery in Mount Horeb, Kohl's grocery stores in Madison and Sysco Corporation in Baraboo. He enjoyed many years of deer hunting on the old Haglund family farm north of Barneveld with his brothers, nephews and sons. Jerry also loved fishing from the cabin near the Mississippi River. He especially enjoyed playing euchre with many friends at the Mount Horeb Senior Center.
Jerry is survived by his sons, Todd (Lisa) of Mount Horeb, Trygve (Rebecca) of Oregon, Wis.; daughters, Joan (Casey) Finley of Mineral Point, Wis., and Kristin (Jason) Krueger of Fort Atkinson, Wis.; and the mother of his sons, Ruth Haglund of Mount Horeb. He especially loved his grandchildren, Patric Conner, Anneka Haglund, Carson and Abbey Finley, Kayla and Eli Krueger, Alison and Josalyn Gosda, and Tom and Rob Gosda. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their families; and many friends.

Donald P. Faust - March 13, 1940 - April 05, 2024

Obituary Preview: MOUNT HOREB / BLACK EARTH - Donald P. Faust, age 84, of Black Earth, Wis., passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, at home. He was born on March 13, 1940, in Cross Plains, at his family’s farm, the son of Peter and Gertrude (Towsley) Faust.
Donald married JoAnne Armbrust on Feb. 28, 1980, at their home in the Town of Vermont. He was a lifelong farmer and worked in roofing for Southern Wisconsin Roofing for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Mount Horeb FFA alumni and enjoyed traveling to Canada with the FFA for the annual fishing trip for many many years.
Donald enjoyed farming, hunting, trapping, fishing, and riding around on his Harley and four-wheeler. Hunting season was a favorite time of the year for him and he enjoyed hunting with his friends, wife, and kids. Don grew up on a small dairy farm and later they switched over to beef farming, he continued to farm beef with his wife and kids in the Vermont Township and continued to farm on his family’s homestead near Cross Plains for many years. After retirement, he enjoyed spending his days farming and driving around taking his dog for rides visiting friends and neighbors.
Donald is survived by his wife, JoAnne Armbrust; children, Kim (Rick) Ackerman, Lynn (Stu) Hodgson, Peter (Martha) Faust, Rick Faust, Nathan Faust, Sarah (Wayne) Aeschbach, Simon (Nicole) Faust, David (Kelsey) Faust and Jordan (Amanda) Faust; grandchildren, Jeff (Jess), Casey (Jeremy), Derek (Breanna), Shane, Shayanna, Carson (Sam) Quinn (Alex), Alli (Micheal), Dustin (Maddie), Lauren, Aquoya, Trinity, Ava, Atticus, and Lincoln; and great-grandchildren, Ayden, Kendra, Amaya, Ashlyn, Sloane, Ramsey, Franklin, Porter and Killian.
He was preceded in death by his son, Shane Faust; parents, Peter and Gertrude Faust; and sister, Catherine Ellefson.
Donald was an old-school, rough-around-the-edge guy. He loved telling stories and ‘shooting the shit’ as he would say. He worked hard his whole life and taught his kids how to work hard for what you want and that there are no handouts in life. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. And if you’re asking, Donnie is ‘finer than a split frog’s hair’.

James Christopher "Chris" Laundy - November 27, 1944 - March 24, 2024

Obituary Preview: MOUNT HOREB - James Christopher Laundy, 79, of Mount Horeb, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday evening, March 24, 2024. Mr. Laundy (who went by Chris) was a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran (1965 - 69), former Mount Horeb Lions Club president, Boy Scout leader, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was born on Nov. 27, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late James Roy and Mary Jo (nee Harwood) Laundy. The family lived in Chardon, Ohio, before relocating to Racine, Wis., in 1965. Chris was introduced to the love of his life, Phyllis Mueller, by his mother, Mary Jo, at his sister, Kathy’s, wedding while on leave from Navy service in 1968. And as the love story goes, after their first date, Phyllis told her sister, Mary Jane, that she was going to marry him! After honorable discharge he returned to Racine, and they married July 22, 1972. He received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from UW-Parkside in 1974.
Chris and Phyllis moved to Mount Horeb in 1976 where they raised their two children, Michael and Joan. He worked for Rayovac (Madison and Fennimore, Wis.), Placon (Madison, Wis.) and Famous Footwear distribution centers (Sun Prairie, Wis., Bakersfield, Calif., and Lebanon, Tenn.).
Chris loved nature, animals, and the outdoors.  He enjoyed sharing his knowledge for hunting with his son, Michael, great-nephew, Jimmy and nephew, Tyler; and enjoyed sharing the outdoors with his daughter, Joan, by going morel and asparagus hunting.  Chris especially loved taking long nature walks with his grandson, Jordy, as well as showing Jordy how to conduct a proper handshake. Chris enjoyed camping and fishing, or any activity where he could watch wildlife. As a long time, Boy Scout leader, he also taught them about canoeing, knot tying, living in the wild, and respect for nature.   Chris carried on the Laundy family tradition of making gingerbread houses and people with Jordy, Michael, and Joan along with Jordy’s Daycare. Chris loved firing his cannon on the 4th of July and special events. Chris was adventurous and loved traveling.  He enjoyed spending time in Japan for work, traveling all over the U.S., including Alaska many times, and taking his wife, Phyllis, on cruises throughout Europe.  Most of all, Chris loved his family.  He was devoted to his children and his grandson, Jordy.   His favorite trips were family vacations, especially to Gulf Shores, Ala.  Chris was blessed to be able to share Gulf Shores with his grandson, Jordy, in August of 2023, an extremely special last family vacation for him.
Mr. Laundy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Laundy of Mount Horeb; daughter, Joan Laundy (Jeremy Kienitz) of Mount Horeb; son, Michael Laundy of Madison; sisters, Gretchen Smith of Long Island, N.Y., and Kathy Jaeck of Racine, Wis.; grandson, Jordy Johnson of Mount Horeb; and many beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and extended family. In addition to family, he is survived by many treasured friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Lang and the entire UW Carbone Cancer Center, and Agrace Hospice for their compassionate care.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at MOUNT HOREB UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 9542 County Highway S, Mount Horeb, at 12 noon on Friday, April 5, 2024, with the Rev. Becky Rokitowski officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church.

Gary Don Mittelstaedt - June 24, 1955 - March 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: MADISON - Gary Don Mittelstaedt, age 68, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on June 24, 1955, in Richland Center, the son of Herbert and Carol (Hopkins) Mittelstaedt.
Gary was a graduate of Mount Horeb High School. He found his calling early on as a baker, a craft he honed with love and precision. Gary's career began at Gobles in Mount Horeb, where his talent for creating delicious pastries quickly became evident. He went on to share his culinary delights at Webers in Cross Plains, Cub Foods in Madison, and finally, HyVee in Madison, where his baked goods were not just food, but a way to connect with others.
Gary's passion for baking was matched only by his love for music and the outdoors. An avid fisherman, he found peace and solitude in nature and the thrill of the catch. His musical talents shone brightly during jam sessions, where he played and sang with a joy that was infectious.
Gary is survived by his siblings, Lynn (Frederick) Coates, Avis Cull, Alan (Sheila) Mittelstaedt, Victor (Mary) Mittelstaedt, Lois (Brian) Schneider; nieces and nephews, Deanna Hinderman, Roger Coates, Jesse and David Cull, Erik Mittelstaedt and Noah Schneider; and many cousins and second cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Carol Mittelstaedt; Carol’s companion of over 30 years, Roy Downing; maternal and paternal grandparents; aunts and uncles; and a nephew and great-nephew.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO MOUNT HOREB FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, from 12 noon until 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Burial at Richland Center Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Donna Mae Zurbuchen - December 05, 1932 - February 28, 2024

Obituary Preview: BELLEVILLE - Donna Mae Zurbuchen, age 91, of Belleville, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024. She was born on Dec. 5, 1932, in Mount Horeb, the daughter of Curtis and Agnes (Knutson) Rothmann.
Donna graduated from Mount Horeb High School, class of 1951. She met Donald Zurbuchen at Club 18. He would not leave her alone until she agreed to go on a date with him. They married on June 6, 1953.
Donna’s excellent culinary skills were well known, as was her sweet tooth. She had an impeccable sense of humor. Donna enjoyed camping trips and the companionship of her well-loved grand dogs. She frequented casinos and loved Walmart trips and playing cards on Friday nights.
Donna is survived by her daughter, Debra Kahl; grandkid, Kyle (Kari) Kahl; and two great-grandchildren, Makensi Kahl and Austin Kahl. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, Curtis and Agnes; siblings, Dean, Robert, Lyle and Duane; and son-in-law, Leroy Kahl.

Earl LeRoy Snider - August 25, 1946 - February 22, 2024

Obituary Preview: MOUNT HOREB - Earl LeRoy Snider, age 77, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024. He was born on Aug. 25, 1946, in Lorain, Ohio, the son of Francis and Donna (Hollis) Snider.
Earl graduated from Firelands High School in 1964. He received his bachelor’s degree in animal nutrition from The Ohio State University, in 1971.
Earl was united in marriage to Cheryl Ketterer on June 27, 1970, in Kipton, Ohio. He worked as an animal nutritionist, managing the Coop Feed Mill in Mount Horeb, for over 30 years. He then went on to work as a custodian for the Mount Horeb School District, retiring in 2014.
Earl enjoyed genealogy and made many connections with people who shared the same passion.  He also found joy in fish breeding and maintaining many freshwater aquariums.
Earl is survived by his wife, Cheryl; son, Sean (Thamonwan Sookkhee) Snider; daughter, Amanda Olson; grandchildren, Gabrielle Olson and Bennett Olson; sister, Sharon (Jack) Kuchenrither; and brother, Mark (Sherry) Snider. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Donna; and brother, Richard Snider.

Ricky Gerard "Rick" Hollfelder - October 02, 1959 - February 19, 2024

Obituary Preview: MOUNT HOREB - Ricky G. “Rick” Hollfelder, age 64, of Mount Horeb, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Feb. 19, 2024. He was born on Oct. 2, 1959, in Madison, the son of Kenneth and Shirley (Taylor) Hollfelder.
Rick attended Wisconsin Heights High School. He married the love of his life, Ann Schulenberg. Rick was a dairy farmer for many years which was one of his greatest passions. After he stopped milking, he worked for Field Silo in Mount Horeb for many years before becoming a patrolman in the Town of Cross Plains. During retirement, Rick greatly enjoyed spending time with Anna and Jordan, especially when they went fishing and snowmobiling. He also loved scratch-off lottery tickets.
Rick is survived by his daughter, Jen Hollfelder; two grandchildren, Jordan Hollfelder and Anna Hollfelder; mother, Shirley Hollfelder; girlfriend, Maralyn Tucker; three brothers, Gary (Carol) Hollfelder, Tim (Jackie) Hollfelder and Jeremy Hollfelder; and sister, Colleen (Rodger) Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Hollfelder; son, Justin Hollfelder; and father, Kenneth Hollfelder.
A visitation will be held at Gunderson Camacho Mount Horeb Funeral and Cremation Care, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024.

Daniel James Chancellor - March 13, 1963 - February 16, 2024

Obituary Preview: BLUE MOUNDS - Daniel James Chancellor, age 60, passed away unexpectedly at home in Blue Mounds, on Feb. 16, 2024. He was born on March 13, 1963, the son of Ed and Frances (Mueller) Chancellor.
Dan graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1981 and lived in the Mount Horeb area for most of his life. He farmed, drove trucks, and was a longtime patrolman for Springdale Township. Dan was a jack-of-all trades and spent much of his free time repairing old machines and vehicles, doing building projects, and caring for pets and farm animals. He read widely, loved movies, and enjoyed road trips and fishing - preferably in combination. He was particularly fond of thrift stores and garage sales.
Although Dan was often most comfortable alone, he enjoyed helping others. He would stop to help stranded drivers in any weather, was fastidious about keeping the roads he plowed safe, and worked hard to make things easier for others.
Dan is survived by his sons, Dave (Rachel) Chancellor, John (Heather Kaarakka) Chancellor, and Joe Chancellor; four grandchildren, Nolan, Mark, Cal, and Jack Chancellor; his parents, Ed and Frances Chancellor; and his siblings, Rick (Rita) Chancellor, Sandy (Corky) Webster, Kathy Chancellor, and Mary Chancellor. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, David Chancellor.

Gerald Gordon McDougall - March 21, 1935 - February 09, 2024

Obituary Preview: MADISON - Gerald "Gerry" McDougall, age 88, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at Madison Pointe Senior Care. He was born on March 21, 1935, in Long Beach, Calif., the son of Angus McDougall and May Piper.
Gerry first started playing football in high school at Long Beach Polytechnic and from there he won a scholarship to play at UCLA. His professional career started with him playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as running back. He was named a CFL Eastern All-Star for 1957 and 1958 and was a part of the Grey cup championship Tiger-Cats team in 1957 and 1965. His career took him to San Diego to play in the AFL for the Chargers from 1962-1964. He was the starting fullback when the Chargers won the AFL championship in 1963. His professional football career spanned from 1957-1967.
After football Gerry owned and operated a number of businesses until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed golf and remained very active throughout most of his life.
Gerry is survived by his son, Mark (Lorraine) McDougall; daughter, Colette McDougall; and two grandchildren, Ian McDougall and Lenna McDougall. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARY'S OF PINE BLUFF CATHOLIC CHURCH, 3673 County Road P, Cross Plains, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, with Father Brian Dulli presiding. Burial will be held at St. Mary's of Pine Bluff Catholic Cemetery.

Glenn Marvin Stensby - August 30, 1944 - February 04, 2024

Obituary Preview: BLUE MOUNDS - Glenn Marvin Stensby, age 79, passed away Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on Aug. 30, 1944, in Madison, Wis., the son of Marvin and Helen Stensby. He married Sandra (Pitts) on June 14, 1969, in San Diego, Calif.
Glenn grew up in the small town of Daleyville, Wis., and graduated from Mount Horeb High School where he lettered in track and football and was awarded most valuable player in football. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1964 and served for five years. Glenn was a Vietnam Veteran and was proud of his service to his country. He was a proud member of the VFW Post No. 9511 where he served as its commander for over 22 years. He was also a member of the Wisconsin Vietnam Vets Chapter IV.
Glenn and his brother and best friend, Steve, owned and operated Stensby Construction for six years. Glenn owned and operated The Moundview Group home from 1984 to 2005 providing a home for adults with cognitive disabilities while still doing the carpentry work he so loved.
Glenn and Sandy loved being snowbirds in Biloxi, Miss., every winter where he could fish every day and go to the many casinos in the area.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandy; three daughters who were the loves of his life, Shanna Amble, Stacy (Mike) Leverenz and Sarah Frosch; five grandchildren, Cheyenne Fotes, Katie Leverenz, Shelby Amble, Ian and Wyatt Frosch; two sisters, Violet Konrad and Carol (Al) Antonson; and his brother, Steve (Joan) Stensby. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Helen Stensby; a sister, Grace Gerber; and a brother-in-law, John Konrad.

MOUNT HOREB - Dawn Joy (Field) Kellesvig went to heaven on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024. She was born in Madison to Wallace and Florence (Topper) Field.
Dawn married her high school sweetheart, Paul William Kellesvig, on Aug. 28, 1965. They have three wonderful sons, Jeffrey Paul (Amy), Gregory Mark (Amy) and Steven David. They were Dawn and Paul’s pride and joy. Dawn and Paul were blessed with seven grandchildren, Brandon (Hayley) Barry, Tyler, Andy, Leah, Ellie, Sam and Eve Kellesvig. Dawn had fun babysitting and attending all of their sporting events and activities.
Dawn grew up on the Field family farm that her grandparents, then parents owned. Dawn and Paul purchased the farm from her parents and later sold a portion of it to Jeff and Amy.
In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, Dawn is survived by her siblings, Donald (Cathie) Field, Donna (Paul) Miller; sister-in-law, Carol Connaughton Conant; and brother-in-law, David Kellesvig; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Field; foster brothers, Duane and Jim Conant; sister-in-law, Donna Field; and Paul’s parents, William and Edna Kellesvig.

Rollie was born on July 26, 1939, in Madison, Wis., the son of Carl and Gertrude (Kahl) Buechner. He served in the U.S. Army. Rollie owned and operated R&R Masonry until retirement. As talented as he was, his real passion in life was his family and friends and his hobbies. Rollie spent his days mowing the lawn out at the farm where he loved to be, having coffee with his buddies, traveling the Wisconsin area, and driving around picking up junk... we mean treasures, that he didn't need.
Rollie might say his work was his greatest talent/accomplishment but his family would beg to differ. Rollie's role as a husband, father, and grandfather was his best role in life.
Rollie is survived by his son, Scott Buechner; and his four grandchildren, Lexie, Chanler, Tyler, and Sammi Buechner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; and parents, Carl and Gertrude.

Obituary Preview: MOUNT HOREB- Corinne L. “Connie” Peterson, age 91 of Mount Horeb, Wis., passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2024. She was born in La Crosse, Wis., on June 8, 1932.
Corinne is survived by her children, Deborah (Mike), Diana (David), David (Susan), Daniel (Darolanne) and Mary (Joel); 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son, Donald Robert; grandson, Daniel; great-grandson, Atley; parents, Lillian and Frank; and siblings, Jimmy, Frank, Robert, Don, Bill and Ruth (Tucky).
Connie was grounded in her Christian faith and was born again when she was 40. She walked in step with the Holy Spirit, staying close to Jesus and standing on the truth of God's Word for 52 years. Connie was extremely generous with her time, faith, and capacity to serve others with Bible studies in her home, a 36-year nursing home music ministry and sharing the gospel with others. She always took time to pray with the residents individually and brought so many new believers to Christ. She loved to cook, bake, go ballroom dancing, and celebrations, especially birthdays and holidays. A Special Message from Grandma herself called, "Only A Step." Do not grieve for me, my dear ones now that I have gone away I've only stepped quietly through the door to the dawn of a brighter day If you could see the beauty of the garden I'm walking through If you could feel the touch of his hand, you would want to walk here, too If you could see the sunshine with no dark shadows lurking near If you could know the joy supreme, I find with my Lord so dear Where pain no more can touch me Where no sorrow can ever be You would be glad I slipped away to this beautiful land of eternity
A memorial service with celebration of life will be held at EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 315 E. Main St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.

Robert John Slinde , Jr. - January 03, 1949 - January 25, 2024

Obituary Preview: MOUNT HOREB - Robert J. “Bob” Slinde, Jr., age 75, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, at his residence. He was born on Jan. 3, 1949, in Madison, Wis., the son of Robert J. and Bernadine Ella (Horton) Slinde.
Bob graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1967 and attended MATC.  He married Judith Marie (Hach) Slinde on June 27, 1970, at St. Bernard Church in Middleton. Bob worked as a lab technician for Hazelton Labs and later doing buildings and grounds maintenance for Mount Horeb Schools, retiring in 2001. He also proudly owned and operated Grouse Creek Shorthairs.
In his free time, Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing in the Madison Senior Softball League, and raising and training German Shorthair Pointers. He loved watching his grandchildren grow and compete in sporting events. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Sportsman’s Club, a guide at the Milford Hills Hunting Club, and he competed in numerous running road races.
Bob was a well-seasoned storyteller. He loved his family and their time spent together. Some of his best years involved summer camping trips to Black Hawk Lake and school months filled with the competitions of his grandchildren. Most of his wardrobe consisted of various youth / high school sports gear supporting his favorite players. He was in the stands as often as he could be and was always eager to point out ways the kids could improve their games.
Bob is survived by his wife, Judy; son, Robert “Bobby” (Ellen) Slinde of Mount Horeb; daughter, Mellisa “Missy” (Jason) Gordon of Barneveld; grandchildren, Josh (Ashley Wilhelm) Wolenec of Verona, Wyatt (Isabel Koehler) Slinde of Mount Horeb, and Grace, Emma and Eliza Gordon, all of Barneveld; great-grandson, Brantley Slinde; brothers, Chuck (Cheryl) Slinde of Baraboo and Randy (Julie) Slinde of Monona; and sister, Paula (Jeff) Kast of Cambridge.  He was preceded in death his parents; his sister, Jennifer Meseberg; brother, Hans Edwin Slinde; grandson, Matthew Patrick Slinde; and other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Shirley B. was born on July 30, 1928, in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, to Virgil and Dorothy (Canfield) Pope.  Always a Canadian at heart, she moved to Janesville, Wis., the original home of her father, Virgil Pope. She made her mark at Clinton High School as one of the most popular girls in school because everyone loved her accent and her Model A car.  From there she attended Madison Technical College and launched her business career working for UW Hospitals and the Wisconsin Medical Society.  She married Milford in 1948 and raised her four children on Maple Shade Farm, Mount Horeb, Wis., which she believed were some of the best years of her life.  During that time, she was a leader in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mount Horeb, civic affairs and political activities--running multiple campaigns for office.  Later she would become the director for Wisconsin Vocational Education Council, one of two women on the Wisconsin Power and Light (Alliant Energy) Board of Directors; and a director of the Henry Vilas Zoo.
Shirley B. was a proud mother and grandmother and a pioneer for women everywhere-a woman far ahead of her time.  She loved her family and delighted in entertaining them and friends.  She was bright, creative, adventurous, a green thumb, poet and had friendships across the globe.  She was a gifted athlete and enjoyed anything with a ball including a retirement filled with golf -including two holes-in-one at her home course of Cherokee Country Club. Oh, did she relish her victories over the men!  She followed her beloved Packers, Brewers and Badgers and was an armchair quarterback with her sons.  Her best friends from golf, bridge and coffee groups enriched her retirement and created many memories.
Special thanks to her medical professionals at UW Hospital and Clinics, Madison, Wis., Mayo Clinic and Agrace Hospice but especially Dr. J.B. Chung and Dr. Alexis Eastman. Elizabeth Margaret "Betty" Laufenberg - March 16, 1929 - January 17, 2024

Obituary Preview: MOUNT HOREB - Elizabeth Margaret “Betty” Laufenberg, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in her own bed on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024. She was 94.
Betty was born on March 16, 1929, to George and Elizabeth (Hellenbrand) Karls of Waunakee. She grew up on the family farm attending school at St. John's Catholic School in Waunakee. She married Herbert Laufenberg on June 6, 1950, at St. John's Catholic Church. Together they raised their seven children and farmed for many years near Mount Horeb. Herbie preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 2012, after 62 years of marriage.
Being a homemaker was Betty's cherished role. She loved being a wife and mother and living on the family farm. She had an extreme love and interest in her family’s lives. Betty had a gift of writing the sweetest, heartfelt letters. If you were lucky enough to receive a card or letter from her, it was saved, reread and treasured.
Betty was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pine Bluff. She worked with her parish family helping with parish functions and funeral dinners. By the grace of God, she taught religious education and was a Eucharistic Minister for many years going to homes and nursing homes. Being a pro-life advocate was very important to her. She had a deep faith in God and felt truly blessed always. She enjoyed music, singing and playing guitar. She was a member of the St. Mary's Parish Choir for many years and sang with the Silvertones.
Betty was a wonderful cook and baker. She especially enjoyed making her delicious cinnamon rolls, buns and bread which her family loved. She baked and decorated many amazing cakes for birthdays, First Communions, graduations and anniversaries. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, bowling, crocheting (making afghans for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren), card playing and family parties.
Later in life she worked part-time at the lunch program for Mount Horeb schools and for Lifetouch Photography. She worked at the polls for elections and was a past member of the local St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Betty is survived by her seven children, Joseph (Marilee) Laufenberg of Jasper, Ga., Diane (Jim) Boland of Mount Horeb, Jane (Ray) Cunneen of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Richard (Joann) Laufenberg, William (Sue) Laufenberg, Sharon (Greg) Carl and Tony Laufenberg all of Mount Horeb; 12 grandchildren, Joel (Stephanie) Laufenberg, Chris (fiancée, Julia) Laufenberg, Karen Dale, Peter (Jackie) Boland, Brian (Katie) Boland, Julie (Chris) Smith, Sarah (Adam) Brecklin, Bria (Wade) Ward, Lindsey (Adam) Ragatz, David Laufenberg, Frank Laufenberg and Erin (Ryan) Nanney; step-grandson, Brian (Kelly) Severson; 22 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Genny Greiber and Lucille Endres; one brother, Edmund (Virginia) Karls; sisters-in-law, Jean Statz, Judy Laufenberg and Eileen (Jim) Rauls; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband "Herbie;" her parents; siblings, Helen (Lawrence) Niesen, George (Marilyn) Karls and Alfred (Mary Ann) Karls;  brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Endres, Herman Greiber, David (Marian) Keller, Art (Leona) Laufenberg, Kenneth (Rose Marie) Laufenberg, Jack Laufenberg and Roman Statz; parents-in-law, Anton and Henrietta Laufenberg; niece, Kathy Keller; nephews, Jerry Niesen and Brian Statz; and godson, Philip Karls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARY’S OF PINE BLUFF CATHOLIC CHURCH, 3673 County Road P, Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, with Father Brian Dulli officiating. Obituary Preview: BARNEVELD - Debra Ann Forbes, age 69, of Barneveld, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024. She was born on Aug. 20, 1954, in Madison, the daughter of Edward and Jean (Benson) Darnell.
Debra graduated from Verona High School in 1972 and attended UW-Madison for a brief time until she was diagnosed with Diabetes.  Debra then worked for the DMV and remained there for 36 years retiring in 2010. She was united in marriage to Thomas "Tom" Forbes on May 15, 1982.
Debra loved being a mentor to her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She enjoyed reading, going to the casino, and being a member of the Barneveld Women’s Auxiliary. Debra belonged to the Masonic Orders of International Order of the Rainbow for Girls where in later years she served as Mother Advisor. She was also initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star of the State of Wisconsin, all associated through Masonic Temple #180 in Middleton, Wis.
Debra is survived by her husband, Tom; sons, John (Anne) Forbes and Josh (Michelle) Sickels; eight grandchildren, Alyson (Jeff ) Forbes, Alexis (Will) Forbes, Alayna (Blake) Forbes, Alora Forbes, Danni (Matt) Holis, Jacob Sickels, Brittany (James) Berned and Jordan Diehm; three great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Michelle) Darnell; sisters, Vicki Metzger, June Daws and Linda (Bill) Hittesdorf; and her beloved cats, Mimi and Valerie. She was preceded in death by her parents; and daughters, Shea Forbes and Hope Forbes.
A memorial service will be held at BARNEVELD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 505 Swiss Lane, Barneveld, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, with Pastor Rhia Strohm presiding. Sharon was a good person and loved helping people. Her generosity was evident through her support of countless charities. She embodied the virtues of her faith through action and spirit. She enjoyed collecting angels. Sharon’s active zest for life shone through her hobbies; she was known for her green thumb with vegetables, her knack for finding treasures at garage sales, and notably as the 'apple pie lady,' thanks to her homegrown apples and baking prowess. Her love for comedy and her role as the family jokester will be cherished memories for all who knew her.
Her ever-present smile and a friendly demeanor will be missed.
Sharon is survived by her son, Philip Lee Hendrickson; grandson, Joshua Hendrickson; and brother, Kerry (Jane) Adler. She was preceded in death by her parents,; husband, Philip Elroy Hendrickson; son, Mark Hendrickson; sisters, Susan (Fred), Donna (Mike), Debbie, Judy, Nancy and September; and brothers, Will, Daniel, David and Randall.

Obituary Preview: BLUE MOUNDS - Kim Cherie Busch, age 51, of Blue Mounds, Wis., passed away on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones at St. Mary's Hospital after a valiant battle against cancer. She was born on March 5, 1972, in Geneva Township, Wis., the daughter of James and Cherie (Warnecke) Hoehnke.
Kim grew up in Delavan, Wis., and graduated from Delavan High School in 1990.  Love and friendship came easy when she met Chad Busch and subsequently married him a year later on July 8, 1995, in Madison, Wis. Her daughters, Alexandrea and Samantha, were born shortly after to complete their loving family unit.
Kim started her working career as a cosmetologist, then did in-home childcare when her daughters were young. When they were older, she went to work at Anchor Bank in Fitchburg, but afterwards found her niche when she went to work for Dean, now SSM Health, where she worked for 18 years as a registered medical assistant in the Neurology Clinic.
Kim never allowed for a dull moment when spending time with family. She made sure to fill family time with gardening, working on home projects, crafting, and other joyful holiday activities. All of Kim’s friends and coworkers loved watching her travel with her family where she made sure to see the sights and find beautiful places to hike. Over the years she became Chad’s photography assistant, with the occasional smartphone “SELFIE!” when the time was right. Those closest to her could rely on her helping hand and caring heart when they needed it most. Kim was kind, brave, and a strong fighter until the very end. Her departure will leave a deep wound felt by her entire family and large network of friends. “. . . My mind still talks to you and my heart still looks for you, but my soul knows you are at peace.”
Kim is survived by her husband, William “Chad” Busch; her daughters, Alex (Marshall) Matthies and Samantha Busch (Shamshad Dergai); father, James Hoehnke; brother, Tim (Tina) Hoehnke; sister-in-law, Shelley Busch; nephews, Shawn and Keven McCarron; brothers-in-law, Todd and Josh Regan; and countless other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Cherie Hoehnke; uncle, Bruce Warnecke; aunt, Gloria Warnecke; father-in-law, Bill Busch; and mother-in-law, Gail (Steve) Regan.
A celebration of life will be held at OLBRICH BOTANICAL GARDENS, 3330 Atwood Ave., Madison, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, with spoken memories being shared starting at 11:30 a.m.
