Obituary Preview: Helen Whitaker, 87, of Ore City, TX passed away on November 21, 2022. Helen was born on April 27, 1935 in Hayward, WI to Walter and Edna Grandis.
Helen was known to always have a smile and laughing. She was devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She dedicated her life to taking care of her family. Helen worked for Ore City School where she enjoyed each day to its fullest. She could be found in her favorite place, working in her yard raking, burning sticks or mowing the lawn.
Helen is survived by her children, Sandie Ramthun and husband Dale, Dale Whitaker, Kathy Figueredo and husband Eric, Scott Whitaker and wife Patsy, Steve Whitaker, Ron Whitaker, and Bobby Whitaker and wife Quindy; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Edna Grandis; husband Leroy “Pete” Whitaker; and son, Mike Whitaker.
Private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Obituary Preview: Thomas Franklin Mobbs of Longview, TX passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2022. Thomas was born to Gilbert and Florene Mobbs in Nashville, Arkansas on December 15, 1939. He graduated from Longview High School and attended Kilgore College. After high school he soon went to work for LeTourneau and his proud accomplishment was working there.
After 50 years, he retired on the same day he started 50 years to the day. He loved to pull a good joke or a prank on folks, loved Christmas and giving gifts. He had many different names that he answered to Paw, Pops, Pawpaw, Tom, Uncle Yogi, Daddy Thomas depending on who he was with at the time.
He was married to Dee Mobbs, who preceded him in death in 1990 along with his parents and infant brother.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Janis and Tony LaFleur, his son and daughter-in-law Randy and Tracie Mobbs. Grandsons Chase and wife Grace Mobbs and Caleb Mobbs. Bonus granddaughter Dawn LaFleur Hammers, bonus great grandchildren Nathan and Remley White, Lyla Hammers and great great granddaughter Haven White. He also leaves behind two brothers and their wives, Eddie and Timmie Mobbs and Johnny and Pat Campbell along with many more family and friends.
We would also like to thank the nurses and Highland Pines for the love and care as they took care of our Daddy and the wonderful caring people of Prime Care Hospice.
Graveside service for Mr. Mobbs will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Grace Hill Cemetery with Rev. Edward Crouch officiating and under the direction of Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home of Diana, TX.

Obituary Preview: Madeline Jones Nixon, 84, of Diana, Texas passed away on November 8, 2022. Madeline was born on August 28, 1938 to Aubrey and Ethel Jones.
Madeline was a 1956 graduate of Harleton High School. After high school she continued to obtain her degree at East Texas Baptist University and finished her Master’s Degree in education from Texas A&M Commerce. She taught for 35 years at Harleton Elementary School.
Madeline was a loving and devoted caregiver, wife, daughter, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed painting, crafting, quilting and cooking. Madeline was a member of Morton Baptist Church. She was always taking care of others. Madeline will be missed by many family and friends.
Madeline is survived by her loving husband, Johnny Ray Nixon; her son John Bradley Nixon and wife Melinda Lynn; grandchild, Aubrey Jade Nixon; and granddog, Chewy.
Madeline is preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Ethel Jones.
A graveside service will take place on November 12, 2022 at 10 o’clock in the morning at Eagle Creek Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Opal Mae Berry Sellers, 75, of Lake O’ the Pines, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2022 . Opal was born in Haskell, Texas on December 26, 1946 to Aubrey Allen Berry and Ila Mae Berry.
She married the love of her life, Jimmy Dan Sellers, on August 28, 1981 in Abilene, Texas. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2022.
Opal was known by many names in her lifetime, a few being Mama, Mom, Honey, Granny and Aunt Opal. She lived her life as the very definition of a “Strong Woman”, not only in mind, but in her heart and soul. She was passionate, strong willed and determined about many things and made sure you knew where she stood on each subject, but always in the kindest way possible. Opal was a care giver who always gave of herself and never asked, wanted or expected anything in return. She loved Sunflowers, Coffee and Casinos, not necessarily in that order, the smell of freshly mowed grass, and the sound of the rain on a tin roof. She much preferred 100° weather over 50° weather, but appreciated the beauty of any and all of Gods creations, even if it had to be cold weather. She loved her fruit trees and gardening and was known to put up many a pints and quarts of homegrown fruits and vegetables, which she shared amongst neighbors, family and friends.
Opal had the biggest heart for any animal, and picked up many astray and took them home, to love and take care of until she could find them a new home that would love them just as much as she did. Her fur babies, Toto, Kathy and Tiger are going to miss her loving voice and caring hands.
The highlight of her life was spending time with her family and sharing and hearing laughter around the room.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jimmy Dan Sellers, a sister, Jone Rister, brother, Kenneth Berry and grandson, Christopher Breeding.
Those she leaves behind, that will miss her loving earthly presence, are; sisters, Maggie Frost and Wanda Allen, son, Clint Pyron and wife, Joyce, and daughters, Vivian (Donna) Gray and husband, Phillip, Rachelle Gaines, Tonya Horn and Tracy Mainka, grandchildren, Carl Walker and wife, Nickol, Randy Carpenter; Zachary Pyron and wife, Marrissa, Scott Gaines, Lockie Thomas and husband, Stayton, Roxanne Mainka, Ryan Mainka and Paula Goff and husband, Dan, along with her 10 precious great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, church family and so many friends.
A memorial service will be held by the family at Lone Oak Baptist Church in Jefferson, Texas at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

Roni retired and moved to Arkansas. She would go fishing at any opportunity. If she wasn’t fishing she could be found at garage sales.
Roni lived most of her life in Texas. Her home and heart belonged in Diana, TX. She was a lifelong member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church.
She left this life to be with Jesus and her heavenly family October 24, 2022. She leaves behind a 2 brothers, Don Denman of Longview, TX and Roland Denman Hoskins; 5 sons, Doug Foret Slagle and wife Josephine of Enola, AR, Joe Foret and wife Jennifer “Tebble” of Frisco, TX, Ronald Foret and wife Anna of Little Elm, TX, Jamie Foret of Waco, TX, and Steven Widdon of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Vanessa Slagle, Preston Slagle, Hannah Foret, Adam Foret, Garrett Foret, Jeremy Foret, Brandon Foret, Ashley Foret and Brett Foret; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, Bob Denman, Floyd Denman, Noland Denman Hoskins and John Whiddon; and her mother, Violet “Bobby” Denman Hamilton.
She will be missed greatly.

We are so blessed from the Lord to have the best mom anyone could have, she was a devoted and loving mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always had a smile on her face. She loved the Lord and her church family. Blossom did a great many things including owning and operating a garage with her husband. She had many hobbies that included, playing Mexican Train dominoes, dancing, watching Texas Rangers Baseball, solving crossword puzzles, playing Pac-Man and being a member of the Gardening Club.
Blossom is survived by her son Tony Hiles and wife Tess of Longview, Texas; daughter, Sarah Walters and husband John of Ore City, Texas; grandchildren, Vanessa Hiles, Daniela Hiles, Victoria Hiles, Taylor Willeford and spouse Drew, Kylie Walters; and great-grandchild, Isla Willeford.
Blossom is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Warrick and Mary Seay Warrick; as well as her beloved husband Alfred Hiles.
Flowers are appreciated, and if you prefer donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Blossom Hiles.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 6 to 8 in the evening. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Ten O’clock in the morning at First Baptist Church in Ore City, Texas.

All who knew him would consider him one of the strongest, most dedicated and most loving and caring men they ever knew. Stephen Earl Francis born on 7/30/1975 departed this world on 9/25/2022 to join Jesus along with his mother Sue Francis, his father Vic Francis and his best friend Patrick Stewart in Heaven.
Stephen leaves behind his legacy with his children, daughter Bailey Francis (22), son Masen Riley (16), son Dylan Francis (14), daughter Addy Francis (12), son Brady Francis (6) and granddaughter Knoxlie Francis (1). He leaves the care of his children with his wife Alecia Francis whom never left his side through his entire valiant battle with cancer. He is loved and remembered by his sisters Stephanie Simmons and Shelly Pinson, his nieces Madison Simmons, Brooke Munafo, Alexis Burke, Britnee Markee and Sydney Simmons. He also passes the torch of love, care, generosity and the opportunity of being a prankster to Randy Dugan and his countless friends and family!!!
The celebration of Stephen's life will be held on Sunday October 2 at 2:00pm at The Harvester Center 6447 FM 726, Diana, TX 75640.

She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years Charles Tucker; her two sons, Shannon Ferguson and Brandon Tucker and wife, Mary; daughter-in-law, Amanda Ferguson; three grand daughters, Bailey Ferguson, McKenzie and McKayla Tucker; father, Merle Thomason; sister, Merlene Whitfield and husband, Johnny; sister-in-law, Lana Snider and husband Steve, and niece, Emily Snider.
She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.

In earlier years she enjoyed bowling on a women’s league each week. She loved puzzles and word games and was an avid reader. More recently, her grandchildren became the sunshine of her life and she cherished the time she spent being their “Melly”. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed.
Melinda is survived by her son, Matt Stanley; daughter, Jenna O’Sicky and husband Stephen; granddaughter, Sage; grandson, Jude; a brother, Russ Carter and wife, Debra; mother-in-law, Weda Barnett and her treasured aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Gordon and Margie Carter; a sister-in-law, Dana Rojo and her beloved husband, Danny.
Services will be held 10AM Friday, September 2, 2022, at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Diana, Texas.

William Richard "Rick" Johnson - March 07, 1957 - August 30, 2022

Obituary Preview: William Richard Johnson “Pa Pa Rick,” 65 years old, passed away Tuesday, August 30th, 2022 in Longview, TX.
He is survived by his sister Mary Jean Felts; his four sons, Ty Johnson, Jacob J. Johnson, William R. Johnson III, and Justin T. Johnson; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his parents, Phyliss Jean (Poole), and William “Bill” Gerald Johnson; and his brother, Don Cramer.
Rick was born March 7, 1957, in San Francisco, California, and graduated from Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas, Class of 1975.
Rick was an extremely passionate outdoorsman. An avid fisherman of many waters, including local lakes, tournaments, and offshore fishing. He also enjoyed hunting. He not only participated in these sports, but was exceedingly knowledgeable of the wildlife and surrounding nature conditions. He established a profound respect that each sport deserved, and took great pride in passing his knowledge to his four sons as well as future generations. Rick was passionate about the East Texas Youth Football League and continued to serve as commissioner for 10 years, well after all four of his sons played through. With four sons all on different baseball teams and football teams throughout the years, Rick and Laurie never missed a practice or a game. He loved his family.
Rick turned his love of sports and outdoors into a career. He became an entrepreneur and opened Pro-Line Sports in 1990, in Longview, Texas.
Prior to Rick’s passing, he was enjoying spending time with his family and friends, who were also there in support during his final days.
Visitation for Rick will be held Saturday, September 3,2022, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at Grubs-Lloyd Funeral Home in Diana with a graveside service immediately following at Walnut Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Florence "Alice" Honnoll was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She went to her heavenly home on August 27, 2022, at the age of 85.
She was born in Alabama, but lived most of her life in Texas. She had two children and married Albert Honnoll and became a mother of four.
She worked in Longview MFG Company for many years and Walmart for over five years. She enjoyed riding the little tractor, moving the grass or just riding it. Her passion was making quilts and she enjoyed her Thursday quilt making at Morton Baptist Church with her other quilters. Alice was a member of the Eastern Star, and she loved going to the lake and RV camping with her neighbors and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Honnoll of 51 years; daughter, Phyllis Burrows; a granddaughter; a sister, Gladys; and her parents, Henry David and Sfronia.
Survivors include a daughter, Tonya Lynn Campbell of Diana, TX; Steve Honnoll of Pennsylvania and James Honnoll of Washington state; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Morton Baptist Church on October 5, 2022 at 11:00 am.

Leonard Welborn Phoenix - November 30, 1927 - August 26, 2022

Mr. Phoenix was born in Bowlegs, Oklahoma and was welcomed into this world by his parents Wesley Seth Phoenix and Maude Britain Phoenix on November 30, 1927. He married his true love Lucille Yates on December 10, 1948. During their 60 years of marriage, they spent time fishing, hunting, camping, water skiing, building, and even on one occasion, snow skiing together. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Diana, where he was a deacon, on the building and grounds committee and a choir member for as long as he was able. Leonard had the heart of a missionary and would go on Mission Trips with any group he could find, including Texas Baptist Men, where he used his skills as a builder to help those in need and further the Great Commission.Before he retired from Lone Star Steel, Leonard would play his harmonica over the PA system so everyone could enjoy it.He is survived by his son, Cliff Phoenix and wife Terry; daughters, Lynette Tomme, and husband, David; Belinda Johnson and husband, Kent; as well as 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, Robert Phoenix; grandson, Ryan Phoenix; his brother, Leroy Phoenix; his sisters, Opal, Josephine, and Mildred.Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Diana, with a visitation 1 hour prior. Obituary Preview: John Donald Weeks, known as “Bud” passed away Friday Aug. 19th at Christus Good Shepherd in Longview, TX. He was born May 2, 1943 in St. Augistine, MO, to Howard & Cora Mae Weeks. John married Saundra P. Weeks on May 3, 1964 in Woodlawn, TX. He proudly served in the US Army and the 49th Armored Division of the National Guard. He worked as a machinist and retired from LeBus International Inc. in 2008 after 32 years of service.
John was the patriarch of his family and often gave good and practical advice. He was a great provider and assured that his family was cared for. He was deeply loved by his wife of 58 years, children and friends & family. He enjoyed the simpler things in life. Loved Sunday drives with his wife and anyone else that he could coerce to go on a drive with him. Cherished his family and loved to spend every available moment with them. His hobbies were gardening and tinkering with anything mechanical. He was an avid reader and loved a good western or anything historical.
John was proceeded in death by his parents, Howard and Cora Mae (Weeks) Olive, sister- Anne Weeks, brothers- Edward, Adrian, and Forrest (Chip) Weeks.
John is survived by his wife, Saundra P. Weeks; sons: John V. Weeks and wife, Melanie; Chris Weeks and wife, Wendy; and Patrick Weeks and companion, Amber Penney; brother: Howard R. Weeks; Sister-Law: Soonjin Weeks; nephew: Kevin Weeks and wife, Debbie. 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Bobby was born on January 20, 1936 in Gilmer, Texas to Robert W. Willeford, Sr. and Ella Mae Ailles Willeford. He worked as a warehouse manager for Sinor Engine Co. Bobby married Nella Yvonne Patterson on May 8, 1955 in Diana and they celebrated 67 years of marriage. He was a member of Graceton Church of Christ in Diana for many years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Yvonne Willeford, children: Malinda Rose Willeford, Rebecca Kay Krenzke, William Craig Willeford and Teresa Anne Williams, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was born on October 23, 1952 in Houston, Texas, to Jesse and Dorothy Dent. Ricky enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing. He was called “Happy Feet” because he loved to dance and would do the “bump” with Sherry. Ricky would express his love for people by being involved in the youth and teaching gun safety and caring for his grandchildren’s many friends. That love was rewarded when he received the Highway Hero Award for saving a family that had driven off the road into a water filled ditch. He also loved his chocolate lab, Red. Those left to cherish his memory are his step-mother Sybil Dent, daughter: Summer and Steven Clark, sisters: Sherry Holdeman and Donna Hankins and husband Dal, grandchildren: Skylar Clark, Halee Clark, Gavin Clark and Jayson Clark and numerous unofficial grandchildren

Cleve was a dedicated Cowboys fan and loved all kinds of sports. He also loved his family and his pets. He was of the Baptist faith.

He had a wonderful family that loved him, and many friends that were important to him.
James was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beverley Henigan.

Kenneth was an outdoorsman. He loved camping and fishing in the most out of way places. He also enjoyed working in his garden and sharing the produce with neighbors.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon Hamrick Watson; sisters Sue Peterson and Vicky Mayes of Carrollton, TX; sister-in-law, Jeanette Rodgers of Mesquite, TX; children Kenneth Jr. and wife Joselia, Michael Watson and Lana Anderson; grandchildren, Darren, Tiffany, Allen, Leah, Zack, Stormie, Celia and Bentley, great-grandchildren: Jaelyn, Leah, Kannon, Kaslyn, Claire and Georgia, numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend Bobby Johnson.
A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Ore City on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. with Brother James Gray officiating. Burial will be at Dennis Cemetery in Hughes Springs following the service. The family will receive visitors on Friday, July 1, 6 – 8 P.M. at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Diana.
Willard was born on May 13, 1934 in Galveston, Texas to Leonard Francis and Ella Estelle Duffey. On April 15, 1954, he married Wilma Jean Golden. He attended and majored in Forestry at The Agricultural & Mechanical College of Texas, currently known as Texas A & M and was a member of the Corp. The summer of his Junior year he worked for the National Forestry Service as a lookout, living with his new bride in the Sawyer Ridge Fire Tower in Idaho. As a master electrician, Willard worked in many places, including Lone Star Steel, SWEPCO Power Plants, offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and in Longview, Texarkana, Paris, Shreveport, Oklahoma, Washington, and Tennessee. He was a member of IBEW Local 301 in Texarkana. Willard was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time in the woods and on the lake.
As a lifetime member of the NRA and TSR, he taught hunter safety to many young people. One of his favorite pastimes was being a lifetime HAM radio operator and a member of SkyWarn Storm Spotter Program. He spent time working disaster relief with the Texas Baptist Men and The Salvation Army Disaster Relief traveling as a Radio Communications Specialist and helping with the Hot Food Big Rigs set up after many of the hurricanes in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. He had the privilege of joining the Search and Rescue team in Northeast Texas, after the Columbia Space Shuttle broke up during re-entry into the atmosphere. As an adult, he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, which is awarded to scouts of exceptional character who have provided distinguished service within a council. He was a Boy Scout leader in Ore City for many years and served in Council positions. He was honored to escort a group of Eagle Scouts from the Council one summer as their Counselor, to hike Camp Philmont, New Mexico. Willard was a member of First Baptist Church in Ore City, where he served as a Deacon, Treasurer for the Church, and the sound board operator. He and Jean loved the Lord and spent a lifetime serving in their church. Known as “Popal” by his grandchildren, he loved spending time with them all and they have many, loving memories of those times.
Survivors include his sister: Helen Baxter, daughter: Pamala Jean York and husband Dwight, son: Willard Harold Duffey, Jr and wife Melinda, grandchildren: Amanda Jones and husband Casey, Justin Duffey and wife Erica, Amelia Potter and husband Dillan, Christopher Stevens, and Ayriana Stevens, great-grandchildren: Cole Jones, Laynie Jones, Clay Jones, Emma Stevens, Jaxon Stevens, Barrett Duffey, and Tatum Duffey.
