Departed: 02/12/2023 (Quakertown)
Obituary Preview: O. Wells Foster (91) of Jennersville, Pennsylvania passed away on February 12, 2023.
Wells was born to Mary Jeannette (Johnnie) and David Smith Foster in Delaware in 1931. He grew up with, and was pre-deceased by, his beloved siblings: David Smith Foster, Mary Carey (Mimi) Haskell, and Lucia Vennum Adams. Wells attended Walnut Green School, St. Andrews School, and the University of Delaware (‘57) where he especially loved his art classes.
Wells was proud of his service as a Second Lieutenant in the Marines stationed in Panama in 1952-54. In addition to his military service, he supported his community as a trustee at Sanford School and at The Pilot School and by serving on the Delaware Academy of Medicine and the World Affairs Council. Wells co-owned Brandywine Oil Company with Harvey Stuart, before joining Patterson-Schwartz Real Estate Company, and then went into development. He fondly remembered driving his oil truck all over Delaware and stopping in for breakfast around the state at places like the old “Post House.”
Wells loved animals and his house was always filled with many pets including gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, crows, cats, dogs, and raccoons; and when he had the farm, ducks, chickens, pigs, and horses. Even close to the very end of his life, his pets were his constant companions.
Wells was known for his love of nature and was delighted each spring when the daffodils would reappear. Throughout his life, Wells, a self-taught craftsman, built intricate model ships and continuously modified (and improved) his daily amenities. In his retirement, Wells tended to his beautiful garden—named “Shortwood Gardens” as a playful nod to Longwood Gardens—and continued to work with his hands.
Wells was preceded in death by his beloved wives Isabelle S. Foster and Carolyn E. Foster. He is survived by his seven children: Alexis, Lucia, Elliot, Ann, Evie, Will, and Kristin.  He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Doris and her twin, Ruth, were born on January 20, 1926 in Jersey City, NJ to the late George and Emma Stanford. The twins made people do a double take, since they really looked alike and sounded alike.
Doris graduated from Bogota High School in 1944. She married Bob Graham on April 26, 1952. Doris was delighted when Linda and Steve gave her grandkids.  She glowed when they were around.  Doris was so proud of Robert and Emma and their accomplishments.
She was an avid animal lover, of which she has passed on her passion to her daughters. There was always a dog in the family, and a few critters that made their way into the Graham household. She became involved with dog training clubs. She loved her shih tzu, Teddy Bear. Doris and Teddy became an awesome therapy team with Paws For People. Teddy and Doris loved bringing cheer to those needing a little love. In the last few years, she received that joy from the four legged visitors and friends from Paws for People, coming to see her. Maryjane Rose Facer - August 21, 2017 - January 27, 2023

Departed: 01/27/2023 (Quakertown)
Obituary Preview: On January 27, 2023, Maryjane Rose Facer, age 5, gained her wings after a long hard fight to stage 5 cancer.
On August 21, 2017, Katyrose Veinot and Tyler Facer welcomed their beautiful, bright baby girl into the world. Maryjane had a beautiful life that was taken far too soon. At only the age of four, right after she graduated preschool and had big dreams of heading off to kindergarten, she was rushed to the hospital where Maryjane was diagnosed with bilateral teratoid Williams Tumors with diffuse anaplasia, both of which were extremely rare. Maryjane had to face months of radiation, numerous amounts of chemo, other super intense rare treatments, multiple surgeries, and back-to-back sedated scans on her seven-month journey. Over those seven months, Maryjane had her fifth birthday, learned to ride a big girl bike, got to go on a make-a-wish trip, and spent her last Christmas being showered with love by the community when they hosted a Christmas drive-by for her.  Santa even came and supplied Christmas gifts for the entire family and then got to ring in the new year one last time with her loved ones.
Though most of her year was spent in the hospital, and she wasn’t able to do the many things you should as a five-year-old, that never stopped her spirit and you would never know how bad she was hurting. She was a sassy little girl with a huge personality.  She was a very bright light in the dark and had a very strong intuition. Her love for everything in this world was so strong. She appreciated the sun, the sky, rocks, flowers, birds, the way the wind blew through the trees, and how the colors changed in the Fall. The little things in life made her happy and were always noticed in her eyes. She loved dressing herself in many bright colors and vibrant designs and of course, her unicorn robe. She always made sure to pack up her bags with all of her lovies every time she went somewhere! Maryjane never stopped smiling no matter what she was facing, always thought of others, and never complained. The way her laugh echoed in a room would fill everyone with joy. She always had the best stories and funniest jokes she would make up anything she could to entertain you.
Maryjane became a big sister of twin baby girls, McKenna and Jordan, at only 18 months old!  She was so always so kind and loving with them. Being a big sister was her biggest accomplishment.  She was always willing to help with anything they needed and helped them learn. The bond between the three of them was so unique and special. The girls have many memories of playing for hours with one another, writing songs, making up dances, building forts, bubble baths, doing art, and most importantly their bedtime routine.  Maryjane would come in at night and read them a story and would rub their backs for a few minutes. This was just one example of how caring she was.
Maryjane always put others’ feelings before herself, she was a huge empath. She often felt others’ emotions around her and hated when people were feeling down. Maryjane always knew how to make you feel better, and if she didn’t know how to make you smile, she would surely figure it out! She loved spending time with her family and her many cousins. Maryjane had a huge interest in animals, going on walks and looking at nature, riding her bike, reading, helping to cook and clean, and she loved more than anything to learn. She wasn’t your average kid.  Many would say after meeting Maryjane that she was a very wise, unique individual and she sure left her mark on this world. Though she left us so soon, the color blue (her favorite color) will remind us of her.  Anytime we see a unicorn or a gorgeous sunset, we know it’s Maryjane saying hello.  May Heaven be good to you, beautiful girl, and may you always rest in peace.
Maryjane is survived by many family and friends who loved her beyond measure. Maryjane's family invites you to join them for a celebration of her life at 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Christian Life Center, 125 Saginaw Road, Lincoln University, PA, 19352.  Doors will open at 3:00pm when those that are attending can come in and view a slideshow prior to the start of service.  There will be NO visitation line, but you are invited to stay after and continue the celebration of her life. Please wear bright colors to honor Maryjane's bright and beautiful spirit!  Contributions in her memory can be made to the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children https://secure.qgiv.com/event/nmaglp/page/594228

Lua was born on August 21, 1945 to Walter Turner “Pete” Oas and Dortha Alexander in Kennett Square, PA. On September 23, 1961, Lua married her high school sweetheart, Dick Southard, who lived and worked as the farm manager on Mr. Truman Welling's Scarlett Thicket Farm raising crops, cattle, and horses. Lua and Dick were a team, a perfect pairing, balancing each other out, and supporting each other for over 60 years of marriage. On March 15, 1962 and October 10, 1964, respectively, she welcomed her two sons into this world. Though Dick often preferred to stay close to home on the farm, they both always enjoyed their trips out West to visit Kevin and his family and going to the Eastern Shore to eat steamed crabs with Ken and his family.
Although Lua was an only child, she had close relationships with many of her extended family including numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles. Her father was an avid foxhunter and family would gather at hunts. She often shared fond memories from the corn boil and pig roast reunions throughout the years. Lua was famous for her Christmas parties where there was always an incredible spread and beautiful decorations.
Lua had a very successful career in the equine industry. She served as publisher of Practical Horseman magazine and associate publisher of Horse & Rider magazine, some of the largest circulation equine publications at that time. Lua was an ambitious business owner, first with 10 years as President of Southard & Associates followed by 15 years as owner of Equine Resources International, LLC (ERI), one of the most well-respected marketing and public relations companies in the industry. She was an inspirational leader and mentor to many young professionals within and outside of her industry. She was heavily involved with American Horse Publications (AHP), including serving as President. Lua received the Chris Brune Spirit Award for all she did to grow the association and was recognized in the book of Whose Who for Women in Business in the United States. Her influence and mentorship were so great that family and colleagues have credited her with helping them get to where they are in their own careers.
Lua also loved to travel and business opportunities gave her the chance to visit over 30 states and many places in Europe. She frequently visited Yellowstone National Park and the Kentucky Horse Park. Despite her frequent travel, she was also committed to her community as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Unionville firehouse for years, always helping when the voting was at the firehouse.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held in her honor at Scarlett Thicket Farm, Kennett Square, PA in May.
Contributions in Lua’s memory can be made to Misty Amarena, 4 Gayfeather Lane Glastonbury, CT 06033. The family is setting up a fund in Lua and Dick’s memory that will provide for their grandchildren. Charles A. Grieco - December 01, 1941 - January 26, 2023

Departed: 01/26/2023 (Quakertown)
Obituary Preview: TO VIEW THE RECORDING OF CHARLIE’S SERVICE, PLEASE CLICK HERE: https://m.youtube.com/live/Gd4mbZYMd9A?feature=share
Charles Allan Grieco, 81, of Newark, Delaware, passed away at Christiana Hospital on Thursday, January 26, 2023.  He was surrounded by his loving family throughout the week leading up to his passing.  He was the beloved husband of Linda Ford Grieco, with whom he shared 35 years of marriage.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Louis Grieco and Alva Grieco (Jones).  He attended Cranford High School and graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor's degree in business administration.  He was a life insurance agent for Northwestern Mutual until his retirement in 2006.  Charlie took great care to educate each of his clients.  His focus was always on what was best for them more than the advancement of his career.
Living the majority of his life in Delaware, he restored 4 different homes over the course of his life.  While all of them had special stories, the two that meant the most were the Dewey beach house on Carolina Street and his home on Little Baltimore Road where he and Linda have lived for the past 26 years.  The Little Baltimore residence and barn, affectionately known as “Ravin’ Manor” was home to 16 years of Zydeco dance parties, a wedding, a family reunion, a high school reunion, a pig roast, numerous baby and engagement showers, and other fun events too numerous to count. Charlie was the ultimate party man.  He never wanted to miss a gathering.
Charlie loved people, cars, the beach, music, dancing, maps, home projects, his dogs, and all food with the exception of pate.  Nothing mattered more to him than being with his family.  The beach was his favorite place.  He also enjoyed entering his classic cars in various car shows each year.  His brother, Tom, his son Matthew, and his grandson, Wilson were often part of the antique car experience.
Everyone loved Charlie.  Even as his health failed and his patience wore a little thin, he was still “part of the party”.  He had an opinion about everything and was stubborn as a mule, but he was also the kindest person you’d ever meet.  And as much as everyone loved him, he too loved those around him.  If someone new joined the party, he wanted to get to know them.  He was genuine and real.  Though Charlie is an identical twin and he and Tom shared a womb and a brain, there will never be another human quite as wonderful as Charlie Grieco.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Matthew Grieco (Sherry); his daughter, Susan Grieco; six grandchildren, Jordan, Sydney, Sabrina, Wilson, Logan, and Peyton;  his brother, Tom (Robin); his niece, Kate Jezyk (Matt), and nephews, Steve (Nicoline), Sam (Christi), and Wesley (Heather).  He was predeceased by his parents and in-laws who loved him as their own. You are invited to visit with Charlie’s family and friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon, Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 401 North Union Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348.  A memorial service in celebration of his life will follow at 12:00 noon. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Parkinsons Disease and Movement Disorders Center Fund at Pennsylvania Hospital online at https://giving.apps.upenn.edu/fund?program=MC&fund=602094 Arrangements are by his son, Matthew J. William A. N. Severance - January 28, 1931 - January 08, 2023

Departed: 01/08/2023 (Quakertown)
Obituary Preview: William Alexander Needham Severance passed away peacefully on January 8, surrounded by love and laughter as family stories were retold.  He was born in January of 1931 in Lansing, Michigan, and named after his mother’s father, William Alexander Needham. As a child, he and his four sisters helped with the greenhouse, the summer business his grandmother had begun and his father ran. He enjoyed summer vacations at the Severance cottage on Green Lake in Northern Michigan, and followed the family tradition with his own five children. His family attended concerts across the lake at Interlochen Music Camp. Blond haired brown eyed Billy learned the trumpet and piano, and was active in the orchestra in high school. He went to college on scholarship from the Navy, studying Astronomy as an undergrad and getting his Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Michigan. (He got his smarts from his mother, who was valedictorian at the University of Illinois, and taught at Columbia University prior to marrying.) He met Sibyl Lutz in college, and they married in September of 1953. Two months later he was on the USS Haynsworth World Cruise, returning to Norfolk VA in June 1954. He left the Navy as a Lieutenant.
Bill accepted a nuclear engineering position at EI DuPont, and moved his wife and two children to Delaware, where the last three children were born. When DuPont assigned him to work on a military project, he refused saying “There are enough bombs in the world.”  Bill was interested in chemical engineering, and managed to change his focus at work, where he invented a silver gauge for x-ray film, a lucrative discovery for DuPont.
He and Sib joined the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Newark, raising their children in this philosophical faith.  A liberal, he served on the Newark Housing Authority, took his family to protests against the Vietnam war, and stopped the local swimming pool from excluding African Americans.  His moral compass was balanced with an unfailing sense of humor.  He would bring new jokes home from work to tell at the dinner table. As a member of the tenth generation of Severance men in America, he countered a conservative colleague’s claim of being more American, by letting him know that his own ancestor captained a ship from England and settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in the 1630s. Always a patriot, his American Flag fluttered in the breeze on the porch above a dinosaur bone and a large piece of petrified wood.
In the 70's Bill and Sib bought a 45-acre property in Pennsylvania with a farmhouse, carriage house and barn. The family loved this home--exploring and playing in the fields, marsh, and woods. Wildlife, such as white-tailed deer, and red foxes have been abundant, as well as songbirds in the meadows. Bill worked for years to have the property placed under a conservation easement to help protect the flora and fauna. As adults the children and grandchildren have treasured visiting on holidays and vacations.
Bill and Sib vacationed around the country, Canada and Mexico, taking the children camping in National Parks and Forests, and visiting museums and extended family. In an era when most men wanted their wives to stay home, he encouraged Sib to get her masters and PhD in English Literature and to pursue her research with trips abroad and summers at Yale.  He supported her teaching career at Penn State.  Bill was deeply affected by Sib’s extended illness and subsequent death in June of 1997.
His other loves included jazz music and University of Michigan football. He relished the games against Michigan State, where his four sisters had been educated. They had a lifelong good-natured rivalry over the games. He also had a passion for studying Michigan copper mining and minerals from around the world. He regularly attended mineral shows in Detroit, Denver, and Tuscon.
Bill is survived by his partner Marlene Lichtenstadter, former partner Anne Murray, children Ellen, Dave, Carol, Steven and Emily, his son-in-law Vince Budnick, two grandsons Max and Asa Budnick, and his sisters’ children and grandchildren. Immediate and extended family were ever present in his heart and on his mind--he faithfully emailed birthday wishes to living relatives and honored memories of those who had passed. He was the hub of his family.

Donald Franklin Lytle - May 10, 1932 - January 04, 2023

Departed: 01/04/2023 (Quakertown)
Obituary Preview: Donald F. Lytle, age 90, of New London, PA, passed away on January 4, 2023, at the Christiana Hospital.  He was the son of the late William Bradford and Ida (Younger); and brother of the late Griffith, Lillian (Guthrie), and Bernice (Keehn).   He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Emma (Reburn) and loving father of Donna Triboletti (deceased Doc), William Lytle (Maryellen), and David Lytle (Barb) and is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Andy, Julie, Kaitlin, Michelle, Brad, Megan, Justin, Alyssa, and Emily; and 6 great-grandchildren, Luke, Jake, Emma, RJ, Lily, and Leo. HED: From egg routes to the Air Force to a pumpkin business, Donald Lytle leaves a storied legacy
If Donald Lytle was telling this story, he’d start by leaning back in his chair and smiling – you know the one, that type of grin that never seemed to completely disappear from his face. The tale would probably take some unexpected twists and turns with some obvious embellishments and eyebrow-raising details. He’d then throw in a cheeky joke with a characteristic wink at the end.
Everyone who met him – whether they knew him as Farmer Don or Mr. Lytle or Pop Pop – knew one thing for certain: That man was a storyteller.
From racing down the curving farmhouse steps as a kid to performing in senior plays at Avon Grove High School to entertaining grandchildren on his rocking chair swing, he always knew how to bring people together.
That was especially true as he invited his neighbors to Lytle’s Farm many decades ago in one of the area’s first pick-your-own produce businesses. Even today, parents and grandparents bring their kids to pick pumpkins, and some still remember how Farmer Don would routinely call out, “Tail on the bale, feet on the floor,” over a rumbling tractor ride.
At 90 years old, Donald Lytle passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 4. And all these stories that Lytle spent his life stringing together are only part of why this New London man’s legacy will continue to shine bright in his local community and beyond. ‘Right time and place’ Not too long ago, Lytle told his grandchildren, “I was at the right time and place my whole life.”
And there was something in the way that he said it…you had to believe him.
He was at the right time and place when he joined his father delivering eggs throughout Wilmington, Delaware. And when his high school agriculture teacher recommended he try growing strawberries at 16 years old – a venture that later led to a lasting pick-your-own pumpkin business when a late frost threatened his strawberry crop.
Of course, he showed up at the right square dance where he’d meet his future bride Peggy, too.
It was timing and luck that brought him into the Air Force during the Korean War. He remembered a conversation with his young wife: If Eisenhower won the presidential election, he’d join the Air Force rather than the Army. That decision led the couple to Texas and – when Lytle joked that he got tired of the heat – Alaska.
Working as an air force carpenter at the base’s hobby shop, he learned to craft intricately designed leather purses and bags, as well as wooden coffee tables, ceramics and more. No doubt, his self-proclaimed “gift of gab,” and instant connection with people gave him a leg up there, too. When he returned to the farm, starting his own egg routes in Newark and Wilmington, he ran into a customer who said her husband was in charge of hiring at the new Chrysler plant nearby. Did he want a job?
Again, he found himself right where he needed to be. As Lytle told it, he walked to the front of the line, told the hiring manager that the man’s wife promised him a job. Many years later, it was not just the job and the tales of hardworking union men, but the friendships and the stories they tossed back and forth that stuck with him. A life that doesn’t fit into one story
The story of Donald Lytle is much more than dots on a map or dates on a calendar, though.
His family will tell you that he had a laugh that was unlike any other, big and hearty and infectious. He had a mischievous way about him that started in the small New London schoolhouse and continued into high school where his classmates named him most likely to be a school principal …because he spent so much time in that office.
He was proud that he could outwit just about anybody. Except maybe that one time in the Air Force. Knowing that the dreaded kitchen chore of cleaning pots and pans went to the last man to arrive at KP or “kitchen police” duty, Lytle devised a plan to stake out his spot in line overnight. When he fell asleep in the doorway, though, each of his buddies stepped over his sleeping body, and when he opened his eyes? You bet there was a grimy pile of pots and pans waiting to be scrubbed.
These were the kinds of stories that he loved to tell, accompanied by lots of laughter. He often told a joke at his own expense or a lesson-learned from a lost fingertip or other farm injury.
Whether Lytle was sharing stories around the living room, at the produce auction, on the farm or even at McDonald’s, it was how he connected with people. And these moments bought him palpable joy. It also gave him a unique friendship with so many people in the community. Over time, he generated a sense of local celebrity, and his grandchildren puffed up with pride when they could say, “Yes, my grandfather is that Donald Lytle.” He probably cherished those moments with his grandchildren, and later his great grandchildren, most of all. Together with Peggy, he showed his love in a familiar grandparent way, with shared meals and T-shirts brought back from trips, and in not so typical ways – have you ever heard about the birthday gift involving billy goats?
Donald and Peggy were partners on the dance floor, on the egg routes and for nearly 70 years of marriage – and Lytle stood by his wife and cared for her in the most difficult days near the end of her life.
While Mom Mom would always call to let you know how beautiful the moon looks one night, Pop Pop would call and make sure you were (or weren’t) watching the Phillies or Eagles games, depending if he believed your viewing would bring Philadelphia good luck.
And he’d daydream about the good ole days when Google didn’t take all the fun out of guessing the answers to silly questions.
Donald Lytle was one-of-a-kind. A man with a big heart who worked hard and loved his community and his family. He told countless stories over his 90 years, and he planted the seeds for many more stories yet to be told.

Stuart Dowling Root - October 14, 1932 - December 31, 2022

Departed: 12/31/2022 (Quakertown)
Obituary Preview: Stuart Dowling Root of Chagrin Falls, OH, New York City and Beaverkill Valley, NY, proud husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2022, at the age of 90 in West Grove, PA.  He leaves behind three children, Kathleen Root Rhodes, Dr. Timothy Danforth Root and his wife Johanna Danforth Root, and Todd Dowling Root and his partner Dr. Steven Mark Pear. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Hayley Plumb Root, Robert Plumb Root, Henry Plumb Root, Theodore Danforth Root, Charlotte Atwood Root, Thomas Dowling Root, Sarah Taylor Root, Marshall S. Rhodes, and Nicholas P. Rhodes.  He is also survived by his former wife Patricia S. Root of Camden, ME, and sister-in-law Joanne Griffith Root of Holden, MA.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife Jean D. Root, his eldest son Bryan L. Root, his son-in-law William P. Rhodes III, a daughter-in-law Anne Hoagland Plumb Root, and one brother, Elton Albert Root Jr., all of whom he loved dearly.
Stuart led a life of remarkable accomplishment beyond being a great family man, serving in the Army and as an Attorney, Banker, Public Servant, Musician and Environmentalist. Stuart was born in Cleveland, OH, on October 14, 1930, to Elton Albert Root and Virginia Saxton Dowling Root and raised in Chagrin Falls, OH, where he graduated from high school in 1950. Known for his sense of humor and love of classical music, he graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) in 1955 with a B.A. in Philosophy after achieving many accomplishments – being elected President of “ODK,” the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, and becoming a lifelong member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity (a “Fiji” like his brother) of which he was President of the chapter at OWU in 1954-55.  It was at OWU that he met his first wife Jean, a sorority girl whom he thoroughly enjoyed courting. He went on to serve his country as an Army Private rank of Specialist II, Clerk Typist in Heidelberg Germany for the Allied Command European Headquarters in the 1950s. After completing his service, he was married to “Jeannie” in December of 1957 and settled in New York City having been accepted at Columbia Law School. After earning his law degree from Columbia in 1960, he and Jean had their first son Bryan while living in the Bronx, and simultaneously he joined Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft, the oldest law firm in New York at that time.  Throughout the early 1960s, he and Jean started raising four children and moving to settle the family in Princeton, NJ. Stuart and Jean subsequently divorced and Stuart later married Patricia Stoneman Graff in 1976 and their marriage lasted throughout his professional career and included travels around the world until they divorced in 1997, but they remained good friends for all their years until his passing.
While practicing at Cadwalader, Stuart became actively involved in designing the legal structure for the largest real estate acquisition in Manhattan since Rockefeller Center. His client was the Bowery Savings Bank, one of the largest savings institutions in the world at that time. In 1968-69, he served as an advisor for the Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae), and by 1970 became the legal architect for a new federal agency known as Freddie Mac (the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation). After years of service as General Counsel to the Bowery and helping to engineer the acquisition of Equitable Savings & Loan Association, from 1981 through 1983, Mr. Root served as President and Vice Chairman of the Bowery Saving Bank.  Although the bank was ailing when he joined, he helped it weather the storm of deregulation to restore the bank as one of the strongest in the nation and one of the largest savings banks in the US upon his leaving, as highlighted in the New York Times “Business People” feature at the time. Upon his resignation, he continued as the bank’s legal counsel and returned to practice at Cadwalader.
His success with The Bowery prompted him to be nominated by President Reagan and subsequently confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Executive Director of the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation, leading the government agency charged with regulating all savings and loan institutions in the United States. He served there from 1987-89 and continued his service testifying before Congress several times from 1990-1991.
He returned to private practice and consulted on many real estate and banking concerns, most notably traveling to Liberia in 1998 to consult for then President Charles Taylor on improving the banking systems of that country.
His life in the New York metro was accomplished, having several apartments in New York City and homes in Princeton NJ, as well as in Pelham, Bronxville and Beaverkill Valley New York.  As an active member of New York’s banking and law community, Stuart was a veteran member of several downtown dining clubs, including the Down Town Association and The Recess Club. Among his many passions were choral performance, opera, classical music, and religious service.  Remaining true to some of these lifelong passions, he was Chairman of the Board for the Harlem School of Arts, elected in 1972, where he collaborated with founder Dorothy Maynor to grow the then fledging non-profit performing arts schools serving children in Harlem, NY. Stuart was a longstanding member of the Canterbury Choral Society in New York City and, in his retirement years, a performer and supporter of the Delaware Valley Opera contributing his voice in the role of Dulcamara in Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love in 2011. Stuart was lucky enough to be in a film Groomed (2013) earning him a listing in IMDB.com. He was a decades long member of New York’s enclave for distinguished authors and artists, The Century Association, hosting many parties for the family and memorable lunches and dinners.  An author himself, he penned two short books and many articles and opinion pieces for the Wall Street Journal and New York Times.  He was a contributor to various churches in New York, including the Church of the Heavenly Rest and Saint Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue.  Notably he was a long-time leader of the Beaverkill Community Church (NY), where he designed, and for many years led, the still cherished Christmas Service and several Summer Musicals widely enjoyed by the Beaverkill Valley community. As his professional life grew, he also grew as an amateur golfer, enjoying several club memberships over the years, including The Pelham Country Club and Tennanah Lake Golf and Tennis Club (Roscoe New York.)
An ardent environmentalist, Mr. Root was a former Board Member of Open Space Institute, Inc. (OSI), established to preserve open space through a variety of means, including direct acquisition, and to provide technical and organizational assistance to citizen groups concerned with local land use and environmental issues. At OSI, he was instrumental in establishing several conservancies, including The Beaverkill Conservancy, the Columbia Land Conservancy, Scenic Hudson Valley, and the Land Trust Alliance of New York.
Stuart will be interred at the family lot at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Chagrin Falls, OH on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11:00am.  The family would like to pay special thanks to all of the team members at Twin Pines Health Care Center in West Grove, as well as nurses and aides for Holisticare Hospice, for their care and compassion in helping Stuart during his final months of life.  Per his wishes, the family would welcome donations in Stuart’s memory to the Chagrin Falls Historical Society (https://www.chagrinhistorical.org/donate/) and the Beaverkill Community Church, P.O. Box 650, Roscoe, NY 12776.

David was a lifelong Rotarian and a member of the Longwood Rotary Club since 2002 where he enthusiastically gave back to the community through numerous service projects.   He was also an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Kennett Square where he served as Rector’s Warden, assisting several pastors and staff throughout COVID and other church transitions.
While Dave enjoyed great success in his career, in the communities he served, and on the course, his greatest joy was his family. All who knew Dave saw his deep devotion to his family, the love he shared with Sue, and the pride he held for his sons.
