Loudie Belle Hurst-Conklin - February 13, 1923 - February 09, 2018

Departed: 02/09/2018 (Bay City)
Obituary Preview: Loudie Belle Hurst Conklin was born February 13, 1923, at her family’s ranch home in Bay City, Texas.  She passed away February 9, 2018 at Matagorda Regional Medical Center in Bay City, Texas.  She was the only child of Ada Huebner Hurst and Bernard Hurst of Bay City.  Loudie grew up here in Bay City with her best friend and Cousin Mary Louise Huebner Frazier.  They spent their youth horseback riding and enjoying small town life.  As a young woman Loudie and her friends loved to entertain our service men who came to the USO dances from Camp Hulen of Palacios during the war.  Loudie loved telling about the endless dancing and all the handsome soldiers she met.  She also later taught dancing for the Arthur Murray dance studios.
She graduated from Bay City High School and went to college at Southwestern in Georgetown.  She returned to Bay City and soon started taking art lessons from renowned artist Simon Michael.  In these classes were a young soon to be famous artist Dalhart Windberg and a young man named Bill Conklin who was to become her husband and love of her life.  Loudie and Billy Wayne married in 1952 and of this happy marriage two sons were born in Bay City.  Mark was born in 1953 and local artist Raleigh born in 1955.
Loudie lived her life in between Los Angeles and Bay City for many years.  Bill was a talented artist and worked for J. C. Penny’s for many years in the art department setting up their art displays.  Their son Raleigh was to learn much from his father this way.  Bill was an actor and was in many television shows and movies.  Loudie also acted and did extra work.  She loved talking about meeting and working in a movie with the handsome Sam Elliot.  Loudie missed Bay City and all her relatives so the family returned home to her mom when Bill became terminally ill with Lou Gehrig disease.  Loudie always enjoyed talking about her Bill whom she missed so much and about her extended Frazier family whom she so loved.  Her love for the Lord was in every breath she took. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Mark and husband Bill Conklin.  Her son Raleigh wishes to thank Mrs. Rose Singletary, a very special woman who was Loudie’s caretaker.  Rose’s love, hard work, compassion and endless patience made Loudies life that much brighter.  Rose also took care of Loudie’s mom in her final days.  The family also wished to thank Brother Mike Zimmerman of First Baptist Church of Bay who brought so much comfort to Loudie.  His care and compassion for her over the years was greatly appreciated.  Thank you also to Gary Kubeckza for all his kindness

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including biographical information, achievements, and details about their life. It is often published in newspapers, online obituary platforms, or funeral home websites to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who need to know about the funeral or memorial service. They can also be a therapeutic outlet for grieving families and friends to share their loved one's story.

What information is typically included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, surviving family members, accomplishments, hobbies, and details about their funeral or memorial service. Some obituaries may also include photos, quotes, or other personal touches.

Who writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. Funeral homes or obituary writers may also assist in crafting the obituary. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary greatly, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important information. Aim for a length of around 150-200 words, but feel free to add more details if needed.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber and serious. Including humorous anecdotes or quotes can help capture the personality and spirit of the deceased, making the obituary more engaging and memorable.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information like name, age, and date of death. An obituary, on the other hand, provides more detailed information about the person's life and legacy.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes! Photos can be a wonderful way to personalize an obituary and make it more engaging. Many online obituary platforms and funeral home websites allow you to upload photos or create a photo gallery.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for publication.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes! Writing your own obituary can be a unique opportunity to reflect on your life and leave a lasting legacy. Consider sharing it with your loved ones or storing it with your important documents.

What is the cost of publishing an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the newspaper, online platform, or funeral home. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars for publication.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary can range from immediate online publication to several days or even weeks for print newspapers. Be sure to check with the publication or platform for their specific timeline.

Can I make changes to an already published obituary?

In some cases, yes. Contact the publication or platform where the obituary was published to inquire about their correction policy. Keep in mind that changes may not always be possible, especially for print publications.

What is an online obituary?

An online obituary is a digital version of a traditional printed obituary, often hosted on websites dedicated to sharing funeral notices and memorials. Online obituaries can be shared easily through social media and email.

How long do online obituaries remain available?

The duration of online obituaries varies depending on the platform or website. Some may remain available indefinitely, while others may be archived or removed after a certain period.

Can I share an online obituary on social media?

Absolutely! Sharing an online obituary on social media can help spread the word quickly and reach a wider audience. Most online platforms provide easy sharing options via Facebook, Twitter, and other popular networks.

What is a memorial website?

A memorial website is a dedicated online space where friends and family can share memories, photos, and condolences for the deceased. These websites often remain active for years, serving as a permanent tribute to the person's life.

How do I find an old obituary?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites like Ancestry.com or Newspapers.com. Local libraries or historical societies may also maintain archives of old newspapers containing obituaries.

Can I republish an old obituary?

In most cases, yes! Republishing an old obituary can be a meaningful way to honor a loved one's memory on special occasions like anniversaries or birthdays. Be sure to obtain permission from the original publisher if necessary.

What is the purpose of an obituary guestbook?

An online guestbook allows friends and family to leave condolences, share memories, and sign their name in tribute to the deceased. This feature is often included with online obituaries or memorial websites.

How do I write a condolence message in an online guestbook?

Aim for sincerity and brevity when leaving a condolence message. Express your sympathy, share a fond memory or anecdote about the deceased, and offer support to their loved ones during this difficult time.

Can I include charitable donations in an obituary?

Yes! Including information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased's legacy and support their favorite causes.

What is an "in lieu of flowers" donation?

An "in lieu of flowers" donation is a request made by the family or friends of the deceased for mourners to make a charitable contribution instead of sending flowers. This gesture can help continue the person's positive impact beyond their lifetime.

How do I plan a memorial service without an obituary?

If there is no formal obituary, you can still plan a memorial service by spreading the word through personal invitations, social media announcements, or local community notifications. Focus on celebrating the person's life and sharing memories with those who knew them best.
