Obituary Preview: Mr. Jackson Earl Barton, 85 of Hillman, Michigan left this world peacefully on April 13, 2022 and was welcomed into Heaven with open arms by his late wife, Mary. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 7, 1937 to the late, Harold and Julia (Kepling) Barton. He has resided in Atlanta since 1989. An avid outdoorsman, Jackson loved to hunt and fish. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his children, John Barton of Lum; Scott (Tammy) Barton of Fairfield, California; Pauline (Steve) Docherty of Atlanta; Tom (Kim) Barton of Lum; Bryan (Melanie) Barton of Casco Township; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Julia Barton; wife, Mary; son, Dan; and daughter, Kathleen.
Funeral services for Mr. Barton will take place at noon on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Green Funeral Home, Atlanta; Pastor Dave Fisher officiating. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until time of service.

Obituary Preview: Mr. William Larson Desonia, 84 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at MediLodge of Hillman on April 7, 2022. He was born in Glasgow, Montana on March 6, 1938 to the late, Frank and Elizabeth (Hanson) Desonia. Bill served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps serving two tours. In 1988, he married his wife, Rosalie (Beedon) Desonia and together they celebrated 33 years of marriage before his passing. The couple moved to the Atlanta area in 2005, formerly of Priest River, Idaho. Bill enjoyed collecting items and was a big advocate for recycling. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Desonia of Atlanta; children, Neal Dafoe of Atlanta; Bonnie (Kenny) Stetter of Wasilla, Alaska; Aaron (Marilyn) Dafoe of Wasilla, Alaska; Quentin Pike Dafoe of Atlanta; Sarah Desonia of North Dakota, Lauren Rhyne of Indiana; Jillian Desonia of Anchorage, Alaska; Matthew Desonia of Willow, Alaska; and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elizabeth Desonia; brother, Bobby; and grandchildren, Crystal Rose Stetter; and Patrick Dafoe.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service held in celebration of his life at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Green Funeral Home, Atlanta. Visitation will take place from noon until time of service. All veterans are welcome to attend to pay their respects to their fallen brother.

Francis Edwin Boucher - July 10, 1929 - March 29, 2022

Obituary Preview: Mr. Francis Edwin “Ed” Boucher, 92 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at his home on March 29, 2022. He was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on July 10, 1929 to the late, Joseph and Nina (Hubbard) Boucher. He married his wife, Darlene Boucher in 1947 and together the couple celebrated over 50 years of marriage before her passing in 1999. Ed graduated from Jackson High School in 1948. Together, Darlene and Ed had four children. Ed worked for East Jackson High School and attended all the sporting events his children participated in and could often be found working the concession stand and volunteering his help where it was needed. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Jackson after 35 years and moved to Atlanta. Even after his retirement, Ed continued to volunteer where he could. He volunteered at the Senior Center in Atlanta and was past president. He was an avid sports fan and a big supporter of the Michigan State Spartans. Ed also enjoyed hunting when he was able and he loved to travel to the Upper Peninsula, always with his black lab, Chester. Family was his number one priority, and he was very proud of the family he had. Every year they would take an annual camping trip to Clear Lake to spend time together. He leaves them with countless memories and an infinite amount of love.
Ed is survived by his children, Norman (Linda) Boucher; Donald (Linda) Boucher both of Union City, Tennessee; Brenda (Edward) Steil of Cheboygan; Ronald (Karen) Boucher of Jackson; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and special friend and caregiver, Mary Menard of Atlanta. He served his country proudly in the United States Army and retired as Master Sergeant after serving two tours and fighting during the Vietnam War. He received a master badge in explosive ordnance disposal and was a quality assurance specialist for ammunition surveillance. Harlan was a lifetime member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the NRA. He leaves behind infinite amounts of wisdom and countless laughs. He will be deeply missed.

He married his wife, Shirlie Ann (Snyder) Murray on July 21, 1965 and together the couple celebrated 56 years of marriage before his passing. Eugene has been vacationing to the area for the past 40+ years having owned property here and moved here permanently after retirement. He worked for Ford Motor Company. He was a former member of the Atlanta Eagles and Imlay City Eagles and past member of the Atlanta Cruisers Car Club. He had a passion for speed, hot rods, motorcycles, race cars, or anything with a motor. He also enjoyed the outdoors and hunting, as well as time spent with family. He will be dearly missed.

She was welcomed into Heaven with open arms by her father, Donald. Linda was born in Trenton, Michigan to Donald and Joan (Roehrig) Smith on July 20, 1955. She has resided in the Atlanta area for the last 40+ years. Linda was a past member of Canada Creek Ranch and a present member of the Atlanta Eagles. She worked at Lucky D’s and thoroughly enjoyed her job, the people she worked with and especially her regular customers. She liked taking trips to the beach, being outdoors, and her big black lab, Riley. What she enjoyed most, however; was the time she spent with her granddaughter, Mia. Linda will be deeply missed. She leaves behind countless memories and an infinite amount of love.

He was born in Hillman, Michigan on January 10, 1945 to the late, James Everest and Mary Evelyn (Brown) Wicks. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a radioman and was skilled in morse code. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #2356. Danny loved music and played the guitar and sang in his band, Wicks and Company, for the last 16 years. He was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and crossword puzzles. He will be missed.
Danny is survived by his sons, Jason Wicks of Hillman; James Daniel (Shannon) Wicks Jr of Sidney, Montana; grandchildren, Hunter Wicks and Jaimi Rae Wicks; sisters, Susie (Bobby) Clink; and Janice (Mike) Kelly both of Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Wicks; wife, Michelle; and brothers, Jeff and Oscar.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service held from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in celebration of Danny’s life on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at the VFW Post #2356, Hillman. Danny will be buried at Hillman Rust Township Cemetery in the Spring.

She moved to Atlanta, Michigan in the early 1960s and resided in Montmorency County for the majority of her life, outside of living in Florida from 1989-1993. After living in Florida, Jeanette moved back to Montmorency County until she passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family and love.
Jeanette enjoyed family gatherings, sunshine, gardening, crafting, painting, ceramics, reminiscing and helping anyone she could. She always made sure her doors were open for anyone who needed a helping hand or a laugh to brighten their day. Most importantly, she loved her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Jeanette is survived by her four children, Julie A. (Jeff) Maechtle; Douglas L. (Carol) Baker Jr.; Chuck (Angela) Perkins; David L. Kidder; brother, George Conant; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Jeanette is preceded in death by her father and mother, Charles and Rosemary Conant; sister, Pamela (Conant) Johnson; brother, Dale Conant; and daughter, JoEllen Baker.

Obituary Preview: Mrs. Beverly Frances LaCrosse, 82 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at her home surrounded by the love of her family on January 12, 2022. She was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on August 17, 1939 to the late, Robert and Helen (Nelson) Whitmarsh.
Beverly met her husband, Bill, when she was working at the candy counter of their local movie theater.  He frequented the theater to see his favorite girl, who would give him free popcorn.  They were married in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on September 21, 1957 and together the couple celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Beverly, at a young age, loved to read the Bible and developed a deep appreciation for its message. She shared this love with her family and with all who she came in contact.
Beverly was a hard and diligent worker, working in local schools and assisting her husband with his business as his office manager. She enjoyed traveling—especially when it was to  visit family. It gave her pleasure to surprise her children and grandchildren with gifts when they visited.  To that end, she enjoyed knitting scarves, crocheting afghans, and quilting blankets for them. Her grandchildren have fond memories of the pancake breakfasts prepared by Nana.
Beverly was kind-hearted and would do anything to assist someone in need. She took the initiative to reach out to others—bringing them a loaf of her banana bread, preparing meals, or simply providing a word of encouragement. Her thoughtful generosity and love will always be remembered.
Beverly is survived by her loving husband, William LaCrosse of Atlanta; sons, William (Joyce) LaCrosse of San Leandro, California; Robert LaCrosse of Atlanta, Michigan; Blair (Michelle) LaCrosse of Flint, Michigan; daughters, Beth Pacza of Westland, Michigan; Breanna (Tel) Bushong of Atlanta, Michigan; grandchildren, Kristopher, Sara, Billy, Marissa, Aimee, Barak, Brenna, Holley, Zachrey, Kyler, Mekenna, and Brooklyn; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Kody, Keith, Rayla, and Nellie; sisters, Judy (Gary) Holbrook, Pat Weber, Linda Kinsey; brother, Scott Whitmarsh. Ed was a board member for the Montmorency County Commission on Aging and was also a member of the American Legion, Atlanta Senior Center, Atlanta Eagles, and the Montmorency County Chamber of Commerce. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge joining in 1971 in California. While being a member of the Moose he earned the title Governor and also received his Pilgrim Degree. In his younger years, he enjoyed to golf.
Ed is survived by his children, Joseph (Dawn) Beswick of Atlanta; Christopher Beswick of Hillman; Bill (Melody) Beswick of Millersburg; stepdaughter, Betty Spangler of Illinois; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard (Dick) Beswick; Dorothy Rosenow both of Morrison, IL; and Marjorie (Sam) Woodruff of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. He was born in Sterling Heights, MI on July 8, 1957 to the late Richard and Carol Oberski. He was a graduate of Hillman High School class of 1975. Ron met and later married his wife Tammy Truitt in California on June 14, 1986. They had their first three daughters there before moving back to Michigan, where they had their fourth daughter. Ron enjoyed the outdoor activities northern Michigan offers, including hunting and fishing, and taught all of his daughters to embrace these recreations as they grew up. He could always be found tinkering in the garage or tending his lawn and garden.
Ron is survived by his wife of 35 years, Tammy; daughter, Krystal Oberski of Longs, SC; daughter, Kalyssa (Tim) Korby of South Range, MI; daughter, Kelsey (Chris) Porter of Browns Mills, NJ; daughter, Karly (Chris) Creguer of Unionville, MI; grandchildren, Kira, Aryan, Logan, Hayden, Lily, Meredith, Morgan, and Olivia; brother, Don Oberski of Atlanta; sister, Susan (Rodney) Johnson of Saginaw; brother, Chris (Tammi) Oberski of Atlanta; and many nieces and nephews. Cindi graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Designing and she went on to owning her own successful business. Cindi and Dan resided in Las Vegas for 18 years before moving to Cheboygan and then Atlanta in 2019. She thoroughly loved the Christmas holiday and decorating her home. She also loved nature and needlepoint. Cindi will be deeply missed.
Cindi is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Ransom; and her close friend, Georgianne McConnell. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ida Gracik.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Haddix and Barbara Kist; and grandparents, Claude and Pearl Parish.

Obituary Preview: Mr. John Edward McGrail, 86 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at his home surrounded by the love of his family on the afternoon of October 28, 2021. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 27, 1935 to the late, John and Ann (Ducas) McGrail. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War which ended on his 18th birthday. John married his wife, Marlene (Hemminghaus) McGrail on September 6, 1958 in Detroit and together the couple have remained almost inseparable for the last 63 years. In December of 1958, John earned his certification as a Resilient Floor installer and continued this career for over 40 years. The couple raised their family of six in Sterling Heights before moving to Atlanta in 1985. After John retired, they moved in 2003 to Brimley and then back to Atlanta in 2015. He was a member of the VFW Post 9023 in Brimley. John was always active and enjoyed both fishing and woodworking. He also liked to watch golf on television and worked as a caddy when he was a teenager. He was a social, patriotic man that valued the time he spent with his family and friends. He leaves them with countless memories and pride for their country. He will be deeply missed.
John is survived by his loving wife, Marlene McGrail of Atlanta; children, Patrick (Heather) McGrail of Atlanta; Jill Hendren of Hemet, California; Maureen McGrail of Atlanta; Brian (Tracie) McGrail of Chesterfield; James McGrail of Gaylord; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and brother, Gerald (Linda) McGrail of Atlanta; He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ann McGrail; son, John; and sister, Rosemary.

He started over the road trucking with Swift Transportation Co. which he left so he could be home with his family. He worked for Ron’s Wrecker for several years and for the last few years he has worked for E.F. Wilkinson & Sons.
He enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors, playing cards, gaming, gardening, movies and playing bingo with Grandma Jane Kidder. Most of all, he loved and enjoyed his family. He was a past member of the Eagles which he was fond of because of his Grandpa, Earl Sockow Sr. and his parents, Earl Sockow Jr. and Tom and Julie Morton.
He is survived by his loving companion; Lori Haney, daughter; Alxsis Sue Haney and son; Trevor Haney of Gaylord MI and daughter; Lawson Kern of Lady Lake, Florida; grandmother; Jane Kidder of Atlanta MI; mother, Julie(Thomas)Morton of Atlanta MI; and dad, Earl(Michelle)Sockow Jr. of Commerce Twp. Memorial Service will take place at the Atlanta Bible Church on Saturday, November 13, 2021. Visitation will be 2:00 – 3:00 with the service following at 3:00. The Atlanta Eagles Ladies Auxiliary will provide a luncheon after the service.
Memorial Service will take place at the Orchard Grove Church in Walled Lake, Building C on November 20, 2021. Visitation will be 2:00 – 3:00 with the service following at 3:00.
Arrangements were entrusted to Greens Funeral Home. Internment will take place at Avery Township Cemetery following the service.

Alton preceded her in death along with three of her sons Jerry Warren, Ken Warren, and Steve Sherman.  Ruth is survived by her daughter Glenda Phairas, sons Don Warren and David Sherman and many many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren. Ruth was born in Paradise, KY, then moved to Fremont, MI for many years before retiring to Atlanta, MI. She loved her family and many friends and was very active in her community. She got her picture in the paper for riding an elephant at 95 years old. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Atlanta in Atlanta, MI, 11965 Lake 15 Rd, Atlanta, MI on Oct. 12, 2021 at 1pm with the family receiving visitors at 11am until the time of service.
