Obituary Preview: Edith Mae Blackwell, 70, of New Albany, IN. passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at her son’s home in Campbellsburg, KY. She was born on October 1, 1951, in Jeffersonville, IN. to the late Virgil and Dora Milburn Trent.  Edith enjoyed playing slot machines, attending concerts at the River Stage, dancing, giving her grandbabies candy, collecting bracelets and jewelry, and watching butterflies.

Edith is survived by her children, Candida Bruner of Charlestown, IN., and Josh (Kendra) Blackwell of Campbellsburg, KY. By her grandchildren, Nova and Stanley Blackwell, Emily and Caitlyn Prewitt, and Jayla Bruner; and her great-grandson, Silas Hayes.  She is also survived by all her siblings, Deloris Fulkerson, Ernest Trent, Mary Jones, Betty Montgomery, Loren Trent, and Bobbie McBride.

Cremation was chosen with a memorial service at a later date.

She was preceded in death by her father David Lambert, step-father Francis Chapman, and her brother James Harry Lambert.

Patricia is survived by her children Robert A. Hardesty, and Jessica M. Hardesty (Sean Martin), her mother Betty Chapman,  sisters Tonya Pedigo and JoAnn Lambert, brother David Lambert Jr, and her grandson Nathaniel Noah Martin.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 30, 2022 at 3:00 pm at the Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown.  Visitation will be on Saturday from 12:00 pm until the time of the service.

She was born on March 5, 1937, in Jefferson County, IN to Robert and Esther Nicholson Stockdale.  Wilma was a member of North Charlestown Church of God and attended First Baptist Church in Charlestown.  She had previously worked at I.C.I.  of Americas, Hart Industries and for many years at the Jay C Store.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and husband Eugene Cox.

Survivors include her sons, Rick Cox and his wife Jan of Charlestown, IN and Randy Cox of Charlestown; her daughter, Robin Cox Hebner of Charlestown; sisters, Mary Rousch of Madison, IN, Anna Mae Roseberry of Charlestown and Inez Prewitt of Louisville, KY; sister-in-law, Patsy Stockdale of Hanover, IN; grandchildren, Ryan Sheppard, Ashley Thomas, JoLynn Grayson, J.T. Cox, Jason Cox and Janae Asbury; 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Life Celebration Services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday April 20, 2022. at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown.  Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday and after 9:00 am on Wednesday.

Rita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was a member of the Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Charlestown, enjoyed classic country music, and she really enjoyed going “on tour” traveling with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years Jerry Reece Mitchell, Sr.; sisters, Mae Arnold, Frances Mosby, Ollie Phillips, Edith Bolin, Mary Christie, Virgie Bolin, Margaret Bruner, and Ida Bruner; and her brothers, Roy Bruner and William Bruner.

Rita is survived by her sons: JR Mitchell (Robyn) of Charlestown, Jeff Mitchell of Charlestown, and Troy Mitchell (Kami) of Sellersburg, IN; sister, Earline Masingo of Charlestown; grandchildren, Eryn, Jessica, and Hannah; and her great-grandchildren, Trayton, Teegan, and Talaya.

Obituary Preview: William 'Bill' Lee Caldwell, 77, of Otisco, IN. passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, IN.  He was born on April 23, 1944, in Franklin, TN to Lee Norris and Annie Laurie McMurray Caldwell.  Bill was a farmer, retired as an elevator technician for Otis Elevators, a 40-year member of the Charlestown Fire Department, a member of the Fishers of Men Bass Club, the Square Dance Club, and on the Scuba Diving Team for the fire department.

Bill is survived by his sons, Michael Caldwell of Tolar, TX, David Morrow of Otisco, IN; daughters, Terri Morrow and Theresa Banks of Charlestown; sisters, Sara Robison of College Grove, TN, and Maxie Covington of Murfreesboro, TN; his grandchildren, Ryder Caldwell, Brazos Caldwell, Ethan Gentry, Sydney Gentry, Amber Kinsey, Gary Morrow, Bill Banks, Nacole Morrow, Drashaun Morrow, and Justin Morrow along with several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marilynn Caldwell, and sister, Anneil Holt.

Life Celebration services will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, beginning at 11:00 am at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown.  The family will receive friends on Monday, April 18, 2022, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Tuesday from 9:00 am until service time also at the funeral home. Joel Gerald Finkelstein - December 01, 1942 - April 11, 2022

Obituary Preview: Joel Gerald Finkelstein, age 79, of Otisco, IN, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, IN.

He was born on December 1, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY, to Hyman and Rose Finkelstein.  After graduating high school, Joel went into the Air Force and honorably served for 4 years.  While in the Air Force he married his wife, Marlene, and they moved to Miramar, FL, after separating from the Air Force.  While in South Florida, he worked for several newspapers as a printer and then worked at A.D. Weiss for many years.  In 1992, Joel moved to Charlestown, and then Otisco, IN, where he worked for Rhodes, Inc.  When not with family, Joel spent many days umpiring for the Charlestown Little League.

Joel retired from Rhodes and enjoyed several years of waking up late and enjoying time with his wife and grandchildren.  However, the retired life didn’t fit his style too long because Joel went back to work for Sam’s and then Kroger.  Joel enjoyed working for Kroger in their produce department and continued to work there until December 2020, when he got his new baby, a pure-bred German Shepherd by the name of “Lady.”  Joel and Lady were basically inseparable from day one.

Joel is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene, of 52 years.  Survivors include his two children, David Finkelstein of Otisco, and Susan Haymon of Floyds Knobs; grandchildren include Kathryn (Steven) Haley of Floyds Knobs, and Kiel (Erin) Haymon of Manor, TX.  Joel also has two great-grandchildren, Declan and Genevieve.

Memorial Services will be at 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown.  The visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Thursday.

Following the Memorial Service, the family will gather at First Baptist Church in Charlestown for fellowship and sharing of memories.

Richard 'Rick' Jerome Roehm - December 27, 1944 - March 21, 2022

Obituary Preview: Richard “Rick” Jerome Roehm Jr. 77, of New Washington, IN passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022, with family at his side at Maple Manor Christian Care in Sellersburg, IN. He was born on December 27, 1944, in New London, Connecticut to Richard Sr. and Kathryn Spaulding Roehm.

Rick graduated from Clarksville High School in 1962 and went to Indiana State University for two years. He decided college wasn't for him and joined the Navy during the Vietnam Err as an Anti-Submarine Warfare Technician. He was stationed at Naval Air Station Patuxent River defending the east coast from Russian Submarines during the Cold War. His favorite station was in Iceland where they watched for Russian subs to return home before the water froze. He was awarded the National Defense Service award for his service. After the military he was hired at AT&T as a technician where he worked for 34 years with 24 years spent in Louisville and the last 10 years in Conyers, Ga. He then retired back home to Bethlehem, IN where he was a member at Bethlehem Community Church before becoming ill.

Rick was passionate about sports; any sport. His love for sports started at a young age when his father Richard "Shorty" coached him and his friends in Clarksville Little League. His glory days continued to high school when he and lifelong friends Sam Gardener, Jim Bemis, Frank Cash, Win Walker, Greg Heid, Doug Hallman, Paul Conner, Jackie Baker, Rick Duffy, Steve Hartley, and Mike Tucker, started the Sportsman Club. Most of the boys started playing sports together in first grade and remained friends until the end. Sam Gardner continued to make visits to see him on a regular basis until his final days, Rick always knowing who Sam was. In high school, Rick tried out for the Cleveland Indians. When asked to stay for a second day he told them he had to get back to school. After high school, he remained active by playing in softball leagues in Louisville and with his colleagues at AT&T. He also took up Archery with Fraze Archery, owned by his good friend Larry Fraze. In 1973, he won the Indiana State Archery tournament.

As those close to him know, Rick was always passionate about Indiana University Basketball and Coach Bobby Knight. Even with dementia and in a nursing home he refused to wear a blue shirt because it represented their rival Kentucky. In his later years he took up golf and was a member of the Honey Creek Country Club in Conyers, Ga. He loved target and skeet shooting and collected a variety of handguns, shotguns, and rifles throughout his life. Outside of sports, he always enjoyed reading a good crime or suspense novel, especially those where the big bad got his “comeuppance”. Rick also loved anything with a motor. His prized possessions were his 1996 Corvette and his 2001 Victory motorcycle. Both were loud and fast just like he liked them.

Rick was passionate about music. He was known to buy every type of stereo equipment invented and when it came to speakers his mantra was “the bigger the better” despite modern technology. Music was always coming out of the many speakers and stereo equipment, sometimes being recorded from one format to another type with microphones being hung in just the right spots to get the best sound. He always had the one seat in the room that was “The Perfect Spot” to get the full experience of whatever music or movie was being played. He would spend hours listening to music enjoying; every note and tweaking the stereo to make it perfect. His favorite artists were Eric Clapton and the Doobie Brothers, and he would listen to them over and over. He knew all their songs down to the last lyrics.

He loved his children Kelly and Brent deeply and spent endless hours either coaching their sporting events or being that loud parent. He was also incredibly supportive off the field sitting at beauty pageants or anything else they were interested in. Once his children were grown, he would consistently make the drive out west to see Brent and to Florida or Massachusetts to see Kelly. As if becoming a Grandpa was grand enough he took on the role of a father figure to his oldest two grandchildren Cierra and Anthony. Cierra’s favorite childhood memories are of him waking her up in the night to watch the shooting stars from his lap and sitting through her fashion shows after a day of shopping with her Grandma. He taught her how to slow dance, how to play cribbage, and how to shoot any gun. Anthony’s fondest memories include being taught how to shoot a bow and arrow and drive a car. He also feels he wouldn’t be the man he is today without his Grandpa’s guidance. He was equally excited when Brent became a father to Ashton and Tyler. Rick was later a Grandpa again from Kelly to 3 more grandchildren whom he loved and enjoyed Alven, Laura, and Melinda.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Aldred Roehm; his devoted daughter Kelly Nicole Roehm of Charlestown, IN; his son Brent Nicholas Roehm (Amber) of Chula Vista, CA; his grandchildren, Cierra Harper, Anthony Harper, Alven Dit, Laura Gendron, Melinda Hawkins, Ashton Roehm, and Tyler Roehm.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mike Roehm.

Cremation was chosen with burial to follow in the Indiana Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Madison, IN. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 29th at 3:30 pm.
