Janay Leewaine John Due - July 02, 1937 - June 17, 2022

Departed: 06/17/2022 (Grandfield)
Obituary Preview: Janay Leewaine John Due, born in Grandfield, Oklahoma, on July 2, 1937, passed away peacefully June 17, 2022, at Comanche County Hospital. Born to J.L. and Marewaine John of Grandfield, Janay was the oldest of three daughters.
After growing up in Grandfield and graduating in 1955, Janay married Cletus Due, on October 24, 1955. They had two children, Ranay and James Lowell. Cletus’s job with Halliburton took them north to Colorado, Nebraska, and finally to Rock Springs, Wyoming. After Ranay graduated in 1975, they moved back to Grandfield to begin their lifelong dream of farming with her parents. After Cletus preceded her in death in 1999, she continued farming until 2006. She loved the land so much that her daughter called her Scarlett O’Hara.
Janay was a caring and compassionate member of the Grandfield community until her passing. She loved serving her church, Grandfield First United Methodist Church, in many capacities: playing the piano every Sunday, coordinating children’s choir and special programs, organizing funeral dinners, ordering Sunday School materials, serving on the board, decorating the sanctuary for Christmas, and preparing the weekly bulletin. She felt like God made her be the church pianist because, although she was hesitant about taking that position, He gave her the talent and confidence to play with Virnitia every Sunday. She mentored many young people through the church, and many of them lovingly refer to her as “Granny” to this day. For years, her family laughingly referred to her as the “assistant pastor” because her love for her church and her God was foremost in a long list of service.
She also served on the Grandfield Public Library Board, the Tillman County Election Board, and the Grandfield Preservation Commission, and the Grandfield Alumni Committee. She was a member of the Chapter EF of P.E.O and Black Katz, sharing her time and talent for the Miss Grandfield Pageant. Her philanthropy, her servant heart, her positivity, and her love for church and community made her life rich indeed.
Janay was passionate about her life and the people in it. She loved her family fiercely and loved being with them. Everything was “fun” for her: digging old bottles in the dump, finding fossils and rocks, plowing, fishing, shopping, mowing—and more fun if family or friends were involved. Janay had many friends, and she often spoke of how fortunate she had been, all her life, to have these treasured friendships. They loved her, and she loved them back with some unseen force that bound them together. Many of them, from all seasons of her life, became like family. Hardworking, committed, driven, and determined, Janay was undaunted by any task, crawling up on her mother’s roof at age 83 to repair it and always creating ways to perform difficult tasks—without asking anyone for help. She always had a project: refinishing furniture, sewing, doing craftwork, gardening, researching genealogy, baking cakes and cookies (always to share!), collecting antiques, and compiling information for church and community tasks. She completed all these tasks for the benefit of others and loved adding glitter and sequins wherever she could! She was a woman of many talents: she could farm, paint, sew, and build everything from baby doll beds to a ramp for her shed. She may have been a little stubborn, but as Amy said, “She was a perfect example of how a Christian was SUPPOSED to live her life—serving God and serving others.”
Janay is survived by her daughter, Ranay Thompson and her husband Steve of Oklahoma City; her grandson Brett Alcorn, his son Mason and daughter Kylie of Moore; her granddaughter Whitney (Alcorn) Fellers, her husband Matthew and daughters Emma and Hadley (and Baby Fellers due January, 2023) of Edmond; her grandson Justin Due and girlfriend Emily Neely of Altus; her step-grandson Cole Thompson; her sister Janita Mahoney and her husband Jerry of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her sister Jimianne John of Plano, Texas; her nephew John Mahoney and his wife Stephanie of Philadelphia; her great nephew Matthew Mahoney of Madison, Wisconsin; her adopted granddaughter, Amanda (McCombs) Huston, her husband Brady and daughter Kennedy; and a host of beautiful friends. She was preceded in death by her son James Lowell Due, her parents J.L. and Marewaine John, and her only love, Cletus Due.

William Mark Miller - March 02, 1948 - August 21, 2021

Departed: 08/21/2021 (Grandfield)
Obituary Preview: William Mark Miller was born in Wichita Falls, TX to William Henry and Charlsa Bishop Miller on March 2, 1948, as the last of four kids. He grew up in Grandfield, OK and graduated as the Valedictorian of the GHS Class of 1966.  From there, he headed for Stillwater, OK, to follow in his father’s footsteps to attend Oklahoma State University.  While attending Oklahoma State University, he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, held office in the Block and Bridal Club, Blue Key Club and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science in 1970. Mark was a member of the Oklahoma State University Meat Judging Team throughout college, where he traveled across the country representing OSU.  Some of Mark’s fondest college memories and stories were made during his time at AGR and judging trips while on the “meats team” at Oklahoma State University. Throughout college, Mark worked at the OSU Swine Facility. When he was not busy with academics, fraternity life and the judging team, Mark spent his summers selling Bible books across the Southern United States for Southwestern Company, where he earned “top salesman” honors and paid his way through college.
Mark married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Johnnie June Reid, on December 20th, 1969, at the First Baptist Church of Grandfield, OK. They made their home in Ponca City, Oklahoma, where he worked for Rodeo Meats in Ark City, KS then on to Wilson’s Company in Oklahoma City, OK, also earning recognition and promotions for his vision, leadership and interpersonal skills during this tenure with both companies.  In 1975, Mark and Johnnie moved back to their hometown of Grandfield, to continue the Miller family legacy of farming and ranching, which was what he always desired to do. Mark spent his entire life in agriculture and loved working with cattle and the land on the family farms in both Tillman and Cotton counties.  Mark raised his two children, Monica Leigh and Jonathan Mark Miller in Grandfield, OK along with his two nephews, James and Henry Reid.  Mark was a devoted husband and father.  Mark has been described by all who truly knew him, especially his wife and children, as “the greatest man they ever knew”.
Mark’s grandchildren describe him as their mentor, role model for life and a true Godly example.  He loved them fiercely with all he had.  Miller, his oldest and his namesake encouraged his Papa Mark to start a cow calf herd that is part of the ranch today.  Myah gave names to all of the bulls in the herd, and she always held a special place in her Papa’s heart.  Londi loved to see her Papa’s face in the crowd at her productions and baby Emmy learned to love the cows and the land because of her Papa Mark.  Proverbs 17:6, tells us that “Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of the children is their fathers”.  Mark Miller lived this scripture in real time throughout his life.  We know Mark has a glorious crown in Heaven, and he brought glory and happiness to all who had the privilege to truly know his heart during his time on this earth.
Mark was a committed servant to his personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He committed his life to Christ when he was only 5 years old at the First Baptist Church in Grandfield, OK, where he attended throughout his youth.  Thereafter, he served in many capacities throughout his life at the First Baptist Church of Burkburnett, TX; including but not limited to, Deacon Body member, Chairman of the Deacon Body, Pastor Search Committee member, Youth Handbell Leader, Church Choir member and soloist and has taught Adult Sunday School since he joined the church in 1975.  Mark faithfully served the Lord and loved his church family with all of his heart.
William Mark Miller met his Lord and Savior with a smile on his face as he entered through the majestic gates of Heaven on August 21st, 2021, while doing the work he loved to do most in his life: working cattle on the family farm. Mark is survived by his wife, Johnnie June Reid of Grandfield, OK, his daughter, Monica Miller Collison and her husband John of Edmond, OK, his son- Jonathan Mark Miller of Edmond, OK, James Reid and his wife Cassie of Trophy Club, TX and Hank Reid of Hollywood, CA his grandchildren - Miller and Myah Wilke of Edmond, OK, Londi Reid of Wichita Falls, TX and Emmy Reid of Trophy Club, TX, his sister Charla Beth Parker and her husband Larry of Alva, OK,  sisters-in-law Kathy Baughman of Grandfield, OK and Gwen Adams and her husband DD of Randlett, OK, along with multiple nieces and nephews.  Mark was predeceased by his father and mother, William Henry and Charlsa Bishop Miller of Grandfield, OK, his brother David Douglas Miller of Springfield, MO and his sister, Verta Laura Smith of Penrose, CO.
