Duane Wilford Salvhus - November 13, 1934 - March 06, 2024

Departed: 03/06/2024 (Huntington)
Obituary Preview: In Loving Memory of Duane Wilford Salvhus 1934-2024 "Heaven has gained another angel. You will forever be in our hearts."
Duane "Moose" Salvhus, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully departed this world surrounded by his cherished family on March 6th, 2024.
Duane was born in Minnesota in 1934 to his late parents, Osmund and Hilda Salvhus. After completing his education, he embarked on a journey working on various farms across Montana. In 1955, he answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy, dedicating four years of his life to the service. Duane spent the majority of his naval career at sea, first aboard the U.S.S. WASP (CVS-18) and later on the U.S.S. TAWARA (CVS-40). Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Duane relocated to Massachusetts, where he contributed his skills to the local paper mill, Westfield River Paper Company, and also worked as a tractor-trailer driver for Oil Recovery.
Among Duane's most treasured pastimes was sitting in his garage, watching his garden flourish. Whether snowmobiling on weekends or fishing for bullheads, he found immense joy in spending time with his family.
Duane is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Nancy J. Salvhus. Together, they were blessed with four children: John F. Salvhus (Georgia), Noreen J. Castagna (Florida), Wayne O. Salvhus (Florida), and Jay E. Salvhus (Massachusetts) and their spouses. His legacy continues through seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Duane was one of nine siblings and leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, many of whom still live in Minnesota.
In this time of sorrow, may we find solace in the memories of a life well-lived, and may Duane's spirit live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. A celebration to honor Duane's life will be held at a later date, and his final resting place will be at the Pine Hill Cemetery.
