Carl J Tanazi - April 19, 2024 - April 19, 2024

Departed: 04/19/2024 (Miami)
Obituary Preview: Carl Jocelyn Tanazi "Tannazy" was born on April 21, 1943, in Port Au Prince, Haiti to the late Herman Tannazy and Athala Tannazy where he and his late sister, Marie Amalia Sanon were raised. Seeking for a better life, he moved to the United States of America, setting foot in Miami, Florida in 1964. Carl being extremely brilliant was a fast learner, therefore was able to gain multiple skills. With his inherent gift of problem solving, he was able to execute the reparation of anything that came with a manual. His work experience extended to plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, construction, what ever was necessary to provide for his home. With his own expert renovation business, as an entrepreneur, he was one of the first to be self employed in his family. Due to these skills, he was often resourceful and sought after by many in the community for guidance and assistance. His support did not end in the community, as Carl also took a stand in support of his Nation of birth Ayiti, as a revolutionist. He often took part in protest throughout south Florida, traveled to Washington to protest for the reshaping of Haiti, and other contributions for the land. He took these measures because he believed in a new Haiti that would soon thrive and again be strengthened, as he often reminded us with joy, Haiti was the first free black republic in 1804. Ayiti Cherie!
Many can attest that Carl was an introvert but when you got a hold of him, he gave the best advice. He was an avid reader, a jack of all trades, engineered witty ideas, harbored many talents, but what many are not aware of, he enjoyed seeing the success of children, he lit up at being a resource and sharing his gift, and took pleasure in the moments of laughter with his wife, Mireille Tanazi. Lastly, he was a child of God as he accepted Christ in September 2019, and would rededicated his life at a later date.
Carl Tanazi is cherished as a wonderful, loving, and protective husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered by many for his sheer gift of intelligence, as well as his desire to help others. He will also be remembered by his love for dogs, and his admiration for his birth nation.
On April 19, 2024, Carl Jocelyn Tanazi “Tannazy” was called home to be with the Lord.. He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Mireille Tanazi, sister; Jacqueline Tannazy-Conley children; Tania Tanazi, Corey Roberts, Erick Milfort, Cathy Remy, Carline Milfort and Carmelle Tanazi. MARY K SMITH HOLMES - December 06, 1948 - October 30, 2023

Departed: 10/30/2023 (Miami)
Obituary Preview: Mary Kate Smith-Holmes “She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” Proverbs 31:26 (NKJV) It has been said, “Being a praying woman doesn’t mean I don’t have bad days. It means I am willing to find beauty, even in the ugliest days.” This precept more than adequately defines the life and legacy of the late Mary Kate Smith Holmes. A lifelong lover of her community, Mary has always used her relationship with God as the power source and conduit for the
warmth, life experiences, and insights she routinely imparted to her children and family. She was born on December 06, 1948, in the countryside confines of Blakely, Georgia, to Freddy Lee and Edna Smith. Notably, young Mary began a childhood accented by modesty and service. Her life story is commendable largely because she consistently and authentically embraced people different from herself. Through her assorted careers and church ministry efforts, her rare and unconditional love comforted her family and even strangers alike. This very soft-spoken woman always spoke loudly through her actions and was always eager to meet the disadvantaged at the very point of their need. Her love, loyalty, and laughter were vital to establishing countless lifelong friendships that endured even up and through her
passing. While her parents were essential in her early life, Mary’s grandmother, Bertha Washington, raised her primarily. The tender care and concern her grandmother implored in her growth and development was second to none. She lovingly sculpted Mary as a young woman driven
by standards and her quest for excellence. Young Mary matriculated through the Crisp County Georgia School District for most of her young adult years as an adolescent. She did this despite the cultural and financial difficulties faced by people of color during that time. During her time in the public school system, she honed the time-honored value of respect for her elders. In this adolescent growth period, she
established the foundations of honesty and loyalty. Mary attended Cordele Elementary and Middle Schools and eventually completed her
preparatory studies at SA Clark High School, graduating with her high school diploma. Mary’s thirst to learn and grow even more than she already had pushed her to seek knowledge that would provide long-term value. With determination and fortitude, she pursued, studied for, and secured her homecare and medical assistance licenses. It should also
be noted that she attended Clark Atlanta College, securing her pharmacy tech credentials. Mary’s rare commitment to service was a character trait she consistently exhibited through her work. She firmly ascribed to the scriptural precept that “he or she who is the greatest…let them serve.” As the consummate professional, she took her time seriously as Assistant Cafeteria Manager at the Miami Dade School’s Miami Shores Elementary School. It was her genuine love for adolescent souls that propelled her to three decades of committed service in
that very vital role. Mary Kate Smith-Holmes 2 | Page Mary’s compelling work ethic was evidenced at other career stops, including as a Pharmacy Technician with both CVS and the former Eckerd’s pharmacies, a passion she filled for just over a decade, as well as a YMCA Director. Moreover, her time as a Medical Assistant in Miami Beach for more than a decade also stretched and challenged her never to stop
growing. Despite her far-reaching career accomplishments, Mary was not shy about making sure that everyone clearly understood that the accurate measure of success that she was experiencing in her life was because of her uncompromised relationship with God. Having accepted Christ in her youth, her relationship with God was not only meaningful to her, but it was also the
center and circumference of her life. With over 50 years as a Sunday School leader and member of the Usher Board #2, Mary faithfully served under pastorates, including the late Pastor Arthur Jackson, Sr. and Pastor D.L. Powell, and the New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. It was her time there that
cemented her firm and steadfast commitment to God’s call on her life. Mary’s unwavering community for serving her community was, in fact, legendary. As a High School Drum Major Mom, Saxophone Section Mom, and Band Booster Parent, all at
Miami Central Senior High School, she actively supported Rockets from 1996 through 2000. She also labored as a dedicated Band Booster Parent from 1984 through 1991 at North Miami
Senior High School.
Content with God’s pledge to send her a mate and best friend, Mary wed Nathaniel C. Holmes on June 21, 1969, a union from which seven vibrant, successful, and loving children
emanated amid from that union. On the afternoon of Monday, October 30, 2023, Mary was “changed…in a moment…in the twinkling of an eye” and was summoned by God. Without delay, she submitted to God’s ultimate and divine will for her life. Unafraid, she boldly stepped beyond the veil to enter God’s eternal rest. Mary was preceded in death by brothers Clifford Lee Smith and Eddie Lee Smith; aunts, Minnie Lee Rhodes and Elmara Washington; uncles, Ellis and JW Washington, LC Allen, and Eddie Tolbart; cousins, Leanne Mae Allen, Sally Curry, Sammy, and Rascol Washington, Mary also leaves precious memories with her daughters, Cassandra (Keith Sr., deceased) and Lashonda; son, Nathaniel II (Talie), along with her cherished bonus children, Jacqueline Davis, Angela and Joshua Holmes, and Nelson Cross Sr.; cousins Leon, Ann and Betty Allen, Vesta, Ellis Jr., Marie and Billy Ray Washington, Shelia Williams; grandchildren, KeUndra, Na’Tre, Nelson II, Nathan, Keith Jr., Nathaniel III, Natalie, Ivana, Ericka, and Shanniya; great-grandchildren, Harmoni, Joy, Naeem, Na’tre Jr., Nalaya, Nelson III, and I’yonna, Godchildren; Karolyn, Nicole (Dwight), Elijah II, Sheronne, Chad, Peter, Joshua, Melissa, Alyssa, Criag, Elzina, and Sharon, Fur-Grands; Paws, Zoey, and Abel; along with special friends; Elizabeth Stephens, Crystal Alvarez, Maria Rex, Janice Jackson, Joe Sapp, Darlene Campbell, Vanessa Robinson, Vickie Bailey, Pearl Johnson Stratton, Dorothy
Wilkins and Cynthia O’Brien. Moreover, many other innumerable sorrowing relatives, loved ones, church members,
friends, well-wishers, and prayer warriors continue to embrace fond memories of her.

Hyacinth A Jones - December 15, 1941 - August 23, 2023

Departed: 08/23/2023 (Miami)
Obituary Preview: Hyacinth Alfreida Jones Sunrise: December 15, 1941 Sunset: August 23, 2023
Saturday, September 2, 2023 | 11:00 A.M. St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church 1470 N.W. 87th Street | Miami, Florida 33147 Reverend Dr. C.A. Ivery, Senior Pastor & Eulogist Reverend Freddie Raiford, Presiding On the wings of a dove, my soul soars to Heaven above. ~ Psalm 55:6
Hyacinth Alfreida Jones was born on December 15, 1941, in Miami, Florida, to the late Solomon and Avis Stuart. She had seven siblings who preceded her in death: Clohilda Poitier, Juanita Bennett, Jane Guice, Bloneva Pratt, Joseph Williams, Levoin Stuart, and Gary Stuart; and a son-in-law who preceded her in death: Eugene Broomfield. Hyacinth received her education in the Miami-Dade County Public School System. After obtaining her education, Hyacinth worked numerous years at Publix warehouse and in the Miami-Dade County Public School System. Throughout this time, she enjoyed an esteemed career. She was a hard worker who took great pride in fulfilling her responsibilities with excellence, integrity, and to the absolute best of her ability. The impact she had on the many lives she touched left a lasting legacy that continued well beyond her retirement from both jobs.
At an early age, Hyacinth accepted Christ into her life, and she was confirmed at the Episcopal Church of The Incarnation under the leadership of Father Clark. She later found a church home at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Mission Ministry. Hyacinth was an active member and enjoyed participating in the various church activities. She shared many good times with her church family over the years, and Reverend Dr. C.A. Ivery honored Hyacinth for her steadfast commitment and faithfulness by dedicating her to serve on the Mother’s Board as one of the Mothers of the church. Throughout her life, Hyacinth had a deep sense of devotion to and reverence for God. She was a true prayer warrior who always put God first. Indeed, her life was a living testament to her faith and trust in God.
Hyacinth met the late Robert L. Jones, Sr. and the two of them fell in love and later married. Nothing was more important to Hyacinth than her family, and she was blessed with seven beautiful children. Hyacinth loved her children unconditionally and she poured everything she had into them. Her children meant the world to her and she was always there for them. She nurtured, encouraged, and guided them; she prayed over them, sacrificed for them, and put their needs before her own. She was the best example of what it means to be a mother and the epitome of strength, resilience, and grace.
To know Hyacinth was to love her. She was passionate about helping others and always found a way to make a profound difference in the lives of others. She particularly loved working with children, and she dedicated her life to working with Head Start’s foster grandparent program. Over the years, she worked tirelessly tutoring and mentoring countless children. Watching the children excel and flourish brought a smile to her face and warmed her heart. Hyacinth was the type of person who never met a stranger. Not only was she a mother to her own children, she was also a mother to the entire community. She was special and had the unique ability to spot a child who was in need. Whether it was a child in need of love, food, nurturing, or guidance, she stepped in and did whatever she had to do to meet the need. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching Christian television programs, game shows, and her beloved Perry Mason. Hyacinth was also an excellent cook and she loved preparing delicious Bahamian meals and baking homemade desserts for her family and friends.
As we reflect back on Hyacinth’s tremendous life and legacy, we remember the many fond memories and good times we shared with her. She was always there for her family, showering us with her unwavering love and support. She was the matriarch of our family and had a heart of gold that is unmatched. She lived life to the fullest and she loved to attend parties, dance, and have a good time. We are truly blessed to have had her in our lives for so many wonderful years. Losing Hyacinth is a tremendous loss for our family because she meant the world to us, but she will continue to live on in our hearts from now until the end of time.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” On August 23, 2023, God decided to call His angel home to take her well-deserved final rest. Hyacinth is survived by her seven loving children, sons: Robert L. Jones, Jr., Kevin Jones (Stacy), and Lawrence Jones (Tenikka); daughters: Tangela Broomfield, Charmaine Jones, Yolanda Jones Hadley, and Sabrina Holmes Richardson (Bernard); two siblings: Rodney Stewart (Addie), and Jacqueline Roberts; one sister-in-law: Annie Mae Williams; fourteen grandsons: Emmanuel Kwaku, Kwasie Kwaku (Courtney), Marquis Jones, Gerald Jones, Brandon Broomfield, Theron Broomfield, Corey Cox, Torrey Cox, Travonte Cox (Shareka), Tavaris Jones, Lawrence Jones, Jalin Richardson, Jayden Jones, and Jakari Jones; seven granddaughters: Rashida Bullard (Sean), Lucretia Jones-Nicolas (Johnny), Kiomi Jones, Kearsa Broomfield, Sheridan Jones, Heaven Jones, and Jasmyne Jones; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and loving friends.

At an early age she developed an obsession with reading and this became a way of escape. It also resulted in her being a very quiet child who “ lived in her head” Her words not mine. Her unusual name always invited comments so she questioned our father about its origin.. His response
was“Chermerdene was the name of the very first black actress he saw in a Movie at the Roxy. We have never been able to verify that story. We grew up calling her Dene. More recently she
told me that her preference was Cherm as determined by her New York buddies. Chermerdene attended Eagle Hall Infants School.Hindsbury Primary School.St Michael’s Girls and finally Queens College for her Advanced Education years. She excelled in sports
representing her High School in the High Jump and was a member of the Netball Team. She immigrated to the United States of America’ June 30th 1968. I credit Cameron, we call him Stanley with that detail as the date is seared in his memory as the day his favorite sister left him at the mercy of his other bossy sister. Her famous saying “I am going to America if I walk"
became a reality after a short stint working at the Treasury Department. Cherm worked at the Barbados Consulate starting in an entry level job as Receptionist while pursuing a Business Degree at Baruch College. She not only managed the Front Desk but doubled up as Accounts Clerk. The Consulate put out a monthly bulletin to Bajan New Yorkers and she assisted with that, gathering news of interest to the Barbadian community.Cherm was a dedicated career professional and progressed all the way to Vice Consul. Some of her duties included services to the Barbadian Citizens in the United States such as Passport renewals,
Attestation and Emergency certificates and much more. Chermerdene was also assigned to and followed the Third Committee at the United Nations
General Assemblies. On a more personal note, Cherm was involved with a dedicated group of young ladies from different countries ,who worked at the Permanent Mission. The group met every Wednesday during their lunch hour to discuss their Faith in Jesus Christ and encouraging each other in their personal Faith journey. Chermerdene was hard working, analytical and loved the privilege of
promoting Barbados to the best of her ability. Upon leaving the Consulate she worked for the Australia Board of tourism which allowed her to enjoy one of her passions; traveling and collecting souvenirs. When Australia moved their headquarters out of New York Chermerdene merged into the Public Relations arena. As Public Relations Manager she managed the East Coast and MidWest public relations campaign and Visiting Journalists Program for an International Travel Client. This propelled her back into School, She graduated from Pace University with an MBA in International Business. Her business career was developed in the HealthCare Industry. First in Network Marketing with
Reliv, a world leader in optimal nutrition promoted as a home based business opportunity. Later she launched her own Company. True to who she was, she titled the Company “Integrity Healthcare Marketing Inc”.Her main focus and area of success was working with Hospitals helping them to develop new Marketing strategies giving them raised visibility in their respective communities. One of her Reports was embraced by the CEO as a blueprint for the
organization’s Marketing and Outreach campaigns. Chermerdene leaves to mourn her sisters Lorraine Alicia and Suzette, her brothers Cameron (Stanley) and Albert. Her nephews Jermaine .Cortez, Zachary and Elijah, Nieces Danielle, Chanel, Kaylin, Kaitlyn and Kayla. May she rest in Eternal Peace
