Joan Gargano - November 17, 1941 - April 27, 2024

Departed: 04/27/2024 (Edison)
Obituary Preview: Joan Gargano, age 82 of Monroe, New Jersey, passed away on April 27th, 2024 after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. Joan was born on November 17th, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York, to John and Josephine Tricarico. She married the love of her life in 1965 and raised six children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Nana, as she was affectionately known to all that knew and loved her, lived for her family. She was the matriarch of the family and the glue that held everyone together. She enjoyed the mayhem of the holidays, cooking and preparing for days. Seeing the joy on her face while the kids wreaked havoc will never be forgotten.
Although she had six children, she was a mother and nana to many, many more. She continuously called to check up on people, never forgot a birthday or anniversary, and attended every graduation and milestone for her loved ones. She enjoyed shopping, mostly for others, and found every excuse to do your laundry when she came to visit. She ran circles around those half her age and was excited to find a random sock that she could add to the laundry pile. Even though she was hesitant to fly, she vacationed around the world and savored that time with her family. Nana was not tech savvy, and would call her family daily to complain about not being able to access her emails. Her accidental “butt” dials, especially those at 3:00 am, will greatly be missed.
She will be remembered for her empathy, kindness, selflessness, generosity, and mostly her ability to see good in everyone. She was, and is, truly an angel. Although she will be deeply missed, she has provided her family with an abundance of beautiful memories that will be shared around future holiday dinners. No amount of time could ever take away the impression she made on those lucky enough to have met her. Her children, grandchildren, and great children will strive to pass on her love of family and the importance of togetherness for generations to come.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and nana. She was the loving mother of John Gargano (deceased), Kim Klose, Michael Gargano, Robert Gargano, Antoinette Monti and her husband Robert, Stacey Catena and her husband Carmen. She was the adored grandmother (Nana) to seventeen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was also survived by her sister Marilyn DiSarle, Debora Noto and her husband Greg, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John of 55 years, who was waiting for her with open arms. Johnny and Joannie together again.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Gosselin Funeral Home, 660 New Dover Road, Edison, NJ. Funeral services on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 8:45 at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00am mass at St. Helena's RC Church in Edison. Entombment at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia.

Stephen Solomon - January 13, 1963 - April 24, 2024

Departed: 04/24/2024 (Edison)
Obituary Preview: Stephen Clement Solomon, 61, passed away on the afternoon of April 24, 2024 in his home in New Jersey, after a four year long battle with cancer. Stephen, aka “Mumblies” or “Solo,” as he was affectionately called, was born on January 13, 1963 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. He grew up in Diamond Vale, Diego Martin, before moving to the United States at 18 years old to continue his education and make a new life for himself, where he eventually married his wife of 31 years, Peggy. Stephen obtained a degree in civil engineering technology from the New York City Technical College and pursued a career in civil engineering, in which he earned numerous certifications and became a senior inspector, overseeing various multimillion dollar projects.
Those who knew Stephen know that he loved to cook (and he was damn good at it) and he had a warm spirit. Stephen was always ready to kick back with anyone (even if he barely knew them) over a beer or even a card game. He was kind and inquisitive, with the sharpest memory, recalling distant memories with vivid details, names and facts. He was knowledgeable and worldly, he had more facts than an encyclopedia (remember those?).
His worldly knowledge and appreciation for other cultures was evident in his love for music. He loved all genres of music, and boasted an extensive record collection including soulful Amy Winehouse to Brazilian samba singer Seu Jorge, jazz music, calypso, classical music and more. He loved to have a good time and bring joy to others, including with his many, many corny jokes (he knew they were corny, don’t worry).
As Stephen faced this terminal illness, his legacy grew increasingly important to him. He would want anyone reading this to walk away with something, aside from the obvious—that he was very funny, a better chef than Gordon Ramsay, extremely loved and will be missed by many. He would want you all to also think of your legacy, your imprint on the world and to remember that you’re living not for yourself but for others.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Peggy; mother, Junia; daughter, Dahlia; step-daughter, Nicole; siblings Patrick, Patricia (husband Selwyn), Simone (husband Robert) and Vanessa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Hurdis. Visitation Wednesday 9:00 to 9:15.  Tribute will be 9:15-9:45.  Blessing Service will begin at 9:45
Family would prefer donations to the Cancer Society or a charity of your choosing.

Robert E Trela - April 22, 1948 - April 15, 2024

Departed: 04/15/2024 (Edison)
Obituary Preview: Heaven gained another angel yesterday when Bob was welcomed into Heaven. Robert E. Trela entered into eternal rest on April 15th, 2024. With his spirit lives a collage of his kindest attributes: a caring heart, a passion for people, and a love of his family, which blended together perfectly to create the perfect canvas of an amazing man who is forever loved and cherished by all. Bob’s empathetic soul branded him as a kind hearted gentleman, yet also known to many as a “man’s man”- who would give the shirt off his back to help others in need, oftentimes without question or mention. He enjoyed making others smile and “Chances Are” you heard his joy radiate through song, danced alongside his spectacular moves, or just simply witnessed his glowing smile that told others how incredibly special he was. A lifelong Giants and Mets fan, Bob showed his courage through his sports choices, but also through his incredibly brave service to the United States Air Force. He dedicated his life to service and hard work, and completed a successful career as a Communications Supervisor for Conrail, where he demonstrated an impeccable work ethic, perseverance, and pride for his area of expertise. Although he retired with big shoes to fill, his biggest expertise was his ability to build things, and not just structurally build things, but build and create a family that would go on to miss him dearly. Bob and Elizabeth Ann (Sinbine) celebrated their 54th Anniversary just days ago, after a lifetime of unconditional love, respect, and happiness that will live on forever. Their children, Robert Jr (wife Stephanie), Jeffrey (wife Christine), and Tracy Hearon succeed his parenting legacy, while seven grandchildren (Trevor, Skylar, Avery, Robert III, Kaitlyn, Matthew and Christian) affectionately called him Pop-Pop.  Left behind in sadness were his brother Stanley Trela and sister Carol Reinhard. He was predeceased by his brother John, and parents Stanley and Genevieve (Pudlak). Bob was an amazing husband and father, but he was the best grandfather of all. PopPop was always at his grandchildren’s events to celebrate every milestone with them, and in any crowded room or party he was the one person each grandchild ran to first. He was always there to give them their kick in the pants or to “rip off their lips”. Whether he was hosting a washers tournament on the 4th of July at his home or loading up the car full of tables, chairs, and countless supplies for another house, he was at the center of every Trela family celebration. Bob has given us treasures that will live on for generations to come. A viewing will be Friday, April 19, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Day of funeral visitation will be Saturday April 20, 2024 from 9:30am to 10:30am . A funeral mass remembering Bob will be Saturday, April 20, 2024 at St. Cecelia’s Church in Iselin at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia. Please join us in remembering our beloved by sharing a story while we take comfort in each other’s company. We will always remember his “bright blessed day” through these “dark sacred nights”, and we’ll think to ourselves, “What a Wonderful World” he gave us.

John G. Brush - October 11, 1956 - March 26, 2024

Departed: 03/26/2024 (Edison)
Obituary Preview: It is with great sorrow, but with even greater memories, that we share the passing of John Brush, age 67. John was born October 11th, 1956 in Hillside, NJ, and resided in Colonia, NJ until March 26th, 2024 when he passed in the company of his family. He was a loving husband, a remarkable father, an affectionate grandfather, and a selfless friend. John approached life with an eagerness to learn, strove to always remain present, and carried an inexhaustible care for those he loved.
Many knew John as a quiet, serene man who always listened with intent and could deliver a well-timed joke at any moment. Whether you knew him from playing cards at the table, joking around and collaborating at work, or hanging out at the house, you knew his easy nature and effortless friendliness. He was happiest when people were gathered. As a husband and father, John was a steady force, a calming presence, your biggest fan, and a tremendous friend. Take a brief look through his Facebook profile and you’ll quickly see that family was his most cherished thing; he was immensely proud of the life we grew together. He taught us how to take a pause, how to be a goof, and to always return to each other. He also gave a damn good hug.
John’s interests and accomplishments ran deep and wide. For years he practiced and taught martial arts, achieving his 2nd degree black belt in Kenpo and 3rd kyū in Aikido. It was in these classes that he met his future wife, Pat. Together they ran the NY marathon, went backpacking, and eventually raised a family. He was an avid skier, a secretly skilled illustrator, and a cutthroat card player. Food was a great passion of his, especially when shared. Hopefully you were fortunate enough to try his exceptional cooking, or to take a tour of his various fermentation projects and infusions. Any day of the week, he’d be happy to have Chinese food (his favorite), or settle down with a good glass of whiskey. John was a voracious reader and movie buff of all things fantasy and sci-fi; he could tell you anything about Star Wars, so it’s no wonder that his looks always drew comparisons to George Lucas. He never missed a superhero movie, and embodied the mild-mannered alter ego and the hero all at once.
John was predeceased by his father, John, and mother, Gertrude, and had two loving sisters, Trudy and Ann. He always remembered his family fondly, and carried them with him while growing his own. He is survived in happy memory by his wife Pat, daughter Lauren, son-in-law Jorge, grandchildren Kaiden and Aleah, daughter Teri, son Shawn, and daughter-in-law Molly.
John, Dad, you will be terribly missed. We know that you had so much life left to live and light to give, but we are overflowing with what you shared with us while you were here. We love you, and will talk to you soon. Visitation Tuesday April 2nd, 2024 from 3pm to 7pm at Gosselin Funeral Home: 660 New Dover Road, Edison, NJ 08820
