Kathleen A. Cantisano - Unknown - April 29, 2024

Departed: 04/29/2024 (Lincoln Park)
Obituary Preview: Kathleen Ann Cantisano, 68, of Budd Lake, New Jersey passed away on April 29, 2024, after a long, 3-year battle with Cancer. Kathleen, known to her friends as ‘Kathy’, was born in Paterson, New Jersey, and grew up in Totowa, New Jersey before marrying her love, James Cantisano, and moving to Lincoln Park, New Jersey. They lived there until 1999, when they moved to Ledgewood, New Jersey with their two sons.
She worked at Allison Control as a bookkeeper for many years, until her retirement later in life. One thing about Kathy was that her smile never left her face, even in the most difficult circumstances. Her love for her family kept her going for years after she began to get sick. Kathy always put others first. She always made family and friends a priority, and made everything from summer vacations to the holiday season extra special for everyone around her. At any function, she could be found bustling around always cooking, serving, refreshing drinks, and chatting with others, all while always smiling. She was always last to sit and eat herself, which is a testament for her love of her friends and family.
Kathy is survived by her two loving sons; Christopher Cantisano, his wife Haley, and their son Carter; Craig Cantisano and his fianceé, Katy Hildebrand; her loving mother-in-law Yvonne Cantisano, her brother-in-law Robert Cantisano and his partner Glenn Buonamano, her two sisters Carolyn Metzker (neé Potts) and Dorothy Asfor (neé Potts), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Kathleen is predeceased by her loving husband of 41 years, James “Jimmy” Cantisano; her mother Dorothy Potts, her father James Potts, her sister Patricia Potts, and her father-in-law James Cantisano.

Ronald J. Aitken, Sr. - Unknown - February 19, 2024

Departed: 02/19/2024 (Lincoln Park)
Obituary Preview: Ronald J. Aitken, Sr. passed away February 19, 2024. He was 79. Born in New Jersey to Robert and Nell Aitken, he is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Sharon Aitken, his son Ron, Jr, and his grandchildren Emma Aitken and Thomas Aitken, and his nieces (Kathy (John), Laurie (Kent), and Denise), his nephew Robbie (Sharon) and all of their children. He was preceded in death by his daughter - Jennifer Lyn Aitken, his son - Baby Aitken, his parents (Robert & Nell Aitken), and his brother, Bob Aitken. Mr. Aitken was a veteran, having served in the US Army in the 1s Armored Division, 1$ Battalion, 6 Infantry, at Fort Hood, Texas, from October 1965 to October 1967. After leaving the service, he worked for Continental Can Company in Operations and Financial Management; for Sprint/United Telephone as a Costing Manager in the Tariffs and Regulatory Group; and for Lee County Electric Cooperative as a Senior Financial Analyst.
He enjoyed fishing, boating and photography, and spending time with good friends. However, his greatest joy came from being with his family! Ron enjoyed spending time teaching and mentoring his children Ron, Jr. and Jennifer: as a soccer coach for Jennifer and Ron, Jr.; as a coach for Jennifer's softball team; and being actively involved in Scouting with Ron, Jr. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren Emma and Thomas - whether it was hanging by the pool, taking day trips to the beach, eating at their favorite restaurants, or just having them come for a visit. He was especially proud to stand with his son as Best Man at Ron, Jr's wedding.
However, it was always the love and support of Sharon, his wife of 54 years, who helped the most throughout all their years together!! Whether it was raising their family, maintaining their home, traveling, getting through medical issues, or just spending time together, Sharon was always the rock he could depend on!! He had an unusual sense of humor that he shared with family and friends. It helped him through all the good times and many of the stressful times.

Joseph A. Steliga - May 06, 1926 - December 27, 2023

Departed: 12/27/2023 (Lincoln Park)
Obituary Preview: Joseph A. Steliga, 97, of Wantage, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, after a brief illness.
Violet, his loving partner of over 33 years, was at his side, together with their live-in caregiver, Nana, who tended to him until the end.
Joe was born May 6, 1926 in Clifton, New Jersey, later moving with his family to Garfield, NJ, where he was enrolled in the Garfield school system. Joe's teachers brought his impressive talents to the attention of several prominent businessmen who helped him pave the way to a long and satisfying career in construction.
His work ethic was beyond reproach, leading him to become one of the most successful builders of his time. Joe's scope of construction included Oakland, Franklin Lakes, Wyckoff, Fair Lawn and other neighboring towns.
Joe became interested in the art of "tilt-up" building construction, which involved the pouring of cement walls for massive buildings on the ground and then having them lifted up by heavy cranes and set into place. This method was extremely profitable on the West Coast because of the milder climate, so Joe decided to visit the plants in Pasadena, California. He brought his knowledge back to Franklin Lakes, where he constructed his own buildings that stand today.
Joe was a quiet, modest man, demanding little, giving much and living life simply and as it unfolded. He was truly family oriented....a trait which he shared with his partner, Violet, and the reason their bond was so strong and true.
All who were fortunate enough to meet Joe and came to know him, are truly blessed - as are those of us who managed to pierce his quiet nature and sharp wit.
Our hearts are broken - but our memories will sustain us.
There is no service planned at this time; however, a celebration of Joe's wonderful life will take place at a future time.

Departed: 11/10/2023 (Lincoln Park)
Obituary Preview: Lorice Barbara (Sabbagh) Zelhof stepped into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 10, 2023. She was at her home in Paterson, New Jersey, surrounded by her loving children.
One month short of her 97th birthday at the time of her death, Lorice had a rich, full life. Her pride and joy, and the main focus of her life, was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doing things for and with her family was her greatest joy, whether it was family trips to Wildwood, cooking holiday meals, or sewing on a missing button. Her cooking was legendary, from authentic Middle Eastern dishes to her famous chicken soup.
Born to Emily (Homsi) and Kamil Sabbagh on December 16, 1926, in Paterson, New Jersey, the family moved to Brooklyn, New York before she returned to Paterson upon her marriage to George Zelhof on November 24, 1946.

She was also a proud Gigi to her three precious great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Jeanette Parkerson, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, who will miss her dearly.
Lorice was an enthusiastic supporter of her family’s accomplishments, including but by no means limited to, her daughters’ careers in education, and her sons’ careers in business and the military. She worked hard to inspire and educate her children and grandchildren. Her youngest grandchild, Christopher Murray, ironically completed his final day of medical school on the day of her passing, her job finally done.
Lorice retired from the National Community Bank in 1992 as Junior Vice President, and was an Avon representative for over 51 years, at one time being the Avon Representative with the longest tenure in the company. Lorice was a member of the St. Ann’s Ladies’ Society, worked bingo at the Plaza for many years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, doing jigsaw puzzles with her grandchildren, trips to Atlantic City and Wildwood, and cheering on her beloved Yankees, either in person or on television.
Lorice was preceded in death by her husband, George Zelhof, who passed away in 1997, after 50 years of marriage, her parents and her brothers, John Sabbagh, Joe Sabbagh and Victor Sabbagh.
The heartfelt thanks of the family go to Valley Hospice for their love and support every step of the way.

Antonetta Manzi - August 08, 1949 - October 09, 2023

Departed: 10/09/2023 (Lincoln Park)
Obituary Preview: On October 9, 2023, the beautiful soul of Antonetta Manzi passed on from this world. Antonetta was born on August 8, 1949 in Quindici, Italy to Mario Manzi & Venicia “Cornelia” D’Alessio. At infancy, she was stricken with Polio, leaving her paralyzed at the leg and yet determined in the mind. Antonetta immigrated with her parents and sisters to Venezuela in 1959, where she would be educated and participate in social reform movements throughout the ‘60s. After graduating from high school, she was employed as a translator and interpreter throughout Venezuela and the Caribbean. She came to the US in 1972 to attend university at Rutgers and Montclair. After marriage and the birth of her first son, she would proceed to attend medical school in the Dominican Republic, attaining her MD and practicing her first passion for several years. She would then return to NJ, where she bore three more sons, after being told of the dangers of doing so. Antonetta raised and cultivated all four sons by herself and always cared for multitudes of others in her home as well. In 1995, Antonetta would plant roots with her family in Fair Lawn, NJ where she would reside for the rest of her life. After exploring many different entrepreneurial ventures, she used her fluency of 5 languages and her expertise of legal writing to establish herself as one of the leading and most capable experts on immigration law and process. Throughout her 30-year career in this field, she helped and fundamentally changed the trajectory of hundreds of families and thousands of lives, impacting whole communities here and throughout the world!
Antonetta had an insatiable spirit, a profoundly caring and loving heart, weak legs, strong hands, a sharp tongue and a powerful mind. She savored every moment and loved surrounding herself with people to share them with her, as she shared herself with all. She was everyone’s therapist and loved exploring the mind and psychology. She was interested in scientific theory, the cosmos, spirituality, ethics & morality, music, dance, languages & etymology, history, nature, food (she was regarded as the best cook!), literature, art & design, among so many other things. She was truly a jack-of-all-trades and a master-of-so-much! Anyone could spend hours talking with her about absolutely any topic; her knowledge and insight were inexhaustible. She had an unmatched reserve of energy and would never stop. Above all, she did everything with grace and was imbibed of Grace. An admirable person, she was regarded by many as truly unique and irreproducible.
Her presence was a blessing for us all. She offered herself to the service of others and at the end to God. She is survived sons Edward Johnson (wife: Angela) of Orlando, Florida; John Barriento (wife: Laurel) of Fair Lawn, NJ; Carlos Barriento of New York, NY; grandchildren Joriana, Kamilah, Ephraim and Giancarlo; siblings Maria Manzi, Rosa Giammanco and Antonio Manzi; nieces Stefania, Joanna, Melissa, Rosanna and Cornelia; nephews Massimo, Michele, Giuseppe and Mario, as well as many others.
