He was born in DeQueen, Arkansas, but raised in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. He came to Durant, Oklahoma in the 1970’s and has been a resident since. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He obtained a master’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He married Jo Ann (Scogin) Poindexter on September 20, 1995 in Durant, Oklahoma.
He enjoyed being outdoors and liked to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lance Andrew and Charline (Harmon) Poindexter; and brother Roger Poindexter.

He married Patsy Janelle (Pace) Amlin on October 19, 1949 in Wichita, Texas. They spent 68 loving years together up until her passing. He was a proud member of the U.S. Army and served in Korea. In 1954, he moved from California to Bryan County, Oklahoma. He was baptized in 1957 and was a member of the Mead Church of Christ.
He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, cattle, farming, cutting trees, setting fires, hunting and grafting pecan trees. Most of all, he loved studying the word of God and the mission work he did in Nicaragua and Cuba.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patsy Janelle (Pace) Amlin who had passed away on May 20, 2018; twin sisters Muriel Davey, Marcella Holland; and grandson Cameron Simmons.
Survivors include son John Amlin and wife Michelle of Mead, Oklahoma; daughter Brenda Simmons and husband Donny of Mead, Oklahoma; grandchildren Nicole Amlin and Josh, Emily Payne and Damian, Jensen Simmons and wife Jenny, Jacoby Simmons, Shelby Amlin and Nate; special nephew Ralph Holland and wife Jessie; numerous great-great grandchildren as well as other extended family and friends.

Obituary Preview: Alvin Chadworthy “Chad” York was born Tuesday, June 25, 1944 in Durant, OK to James “Jim” Walter and Robbie Lo Taylor York. Chad passed from this life on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. He was baptized by Bud Amlin on March 25, 1978 and was a member of the Mead Church of Christ.
Chad graduated from Mead High School then went to work with Wilson Masonry Company in Durant, OK. Two years later he met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Blankenship. This union was blessed with two precious sons. The family lived in Silo for some years before moving to Angleton, TX where he was employed by Dow Chemical Company for 15 years. He then took early retirement from the company and moved back to Silo. He went to work with Texas Feed Fat where he worked for 10 years. He then moved his employment to Durant Iron & Metal where he finished out his working career as a truck driver.
Chad enjoyed being with his family and grandkids, telling them about some of his hunting and fishing stories. He was known to the grandkids as “Pop.” He loved to help anyone that he knew was trying to help themselves. He will be missed here in this life but was looking forward to the reunion with his wife Carolyn, son Randell, and all his brothers and sisters in Christ.
Chad was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; son, Randell Duane York; daughter in-law, Sharla Broussard; both parents; brother, James V. York; and an infant brother.
Chad is survived by his son, Cody Duane York of the home; grandson, Brandon Campbell of IL; granddaughter, Bailey York of Grand Cane, LA.; daughter-in-law, Melissa York of Grand Cane, LA.; grandson, Zachary Woods; grandson, Kegan Ashworth and Glen Rogers; granddaughter, Katie Broussard of Utopia, TX; brother, Gary York and his wife Bernice of Port Barre, LA.; sister, Aledyth Ann York Brimage and her husband, Don of Durant; sister-in-law, Alta York of Silo; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Wendell Peoples, Max Lane, Steve Phelps and Rick Phelps. Honorary pallbearers are Don Brimage, Jerry Frederick, Dale Ballard, and Bruce Frederick.
Arrangements are handled by Gordon Funeral Home. Family hour will be from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. followed by the service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 23rd. Officiant will be Roger Spears. Burial follows at Silo Restland Cemetery.

Daniel Alan Pennington - November 19, 1962 - March 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: Daniel "Danny" Alan Pennington was born November 19, 1962. He moved to Durant around 1976 and made a name for himself. After high school, Dan raised and sold exotic animals. Soon after, he was a radio DJ/announcer for several years including on Durant’s KSEO radio. His voice and presence grew attention. This later opened a career as the leading DJ in a Ft. Worth-Dallas dance hall. Later, Dan gained employment in the Durant Democrat newspaper. He was skilled in photography, writing, auto mechanics, computers and electronics. Much was self-taught.
He sponsored the present Durant Diggers Facebook site which today captures an astonishing 10,000 plus members. Only good news was permitted, folks with pressing needs were helped and community events were highlighted. This was done from the kindness of his heart because he loved to help people.
Over the last few years, Dan's health began to deteriorate. With his recent passing in March of 2024, we know many in the community, whose lives he touched, will be affected. He left quite a legacy behind.
He was preceded in death by his mother Wanda Mae Wallis; father Ernest Brown; brothers Gary Locklar and Mike Harmon Sr.
He is survived by his children Jeremy Buckmaster, Mykal Joiner, Danielle Pennington; brother Tom Harmon; nephews Jeff Harmon, Mike Harmon Jr., David Harmon; niece Tamra Harmon; cousins Mickey Sehorn, Mark Sehorn; grandchildren Serenity Buckmaster, Grayson Hamilton; mentors Jim Harmon, William Streng, Mark Armstrong as well as several close friends.
Dan and his impact on those around him will be felt and missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Gordon Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma.

He was born on Tuesday, June 14, 1959 in Merkle, Texas to Gail Arthur and Martha Darlene (Blackwell) Baker. He came from a large family and had 10 siblings, 6 brothers and 4 sisters. He was a hard worker and he also played hard. He was never afraid of hard work and would have his back to the wall. All he wanted was an “attaboy.”
David loved to help people. It was in his nature to go far and beyond do so. Ollie and Boo were like family to David and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them. When Ollie had his surgeries, David would watch after him when he was around. He wanted to make sure he wouldn’t fall and get hurt. As for Boo, everything she said was set in stone. He did his best to please them both. He cared for a lot of folks and had a heart of gold.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors and liked to go to the lake. He wouldn’t go to the lake to fish, but to look for arrowheads. Sometimes he would get lucky with his search.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Jerry, Martha, Linda, and Robert.
Survivors include his siblings Mary Grober of Duncan, Oklahoma, Danny Baker of Kingston, Oklahoma, Gail “Bug” Arthur Baker, Jr. of Amarillo, Texas, Tommy Baker of Kingston, Oklahoma, Betty Christy, Freddy Baker of Clayton, Oklahoma as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Obituary Preview: Maxine (Ammmons) Franklin of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life on Monday, March 4, 2024 at the age of 88. She was born on Friday, September 6, 1935 in Caddo, Oklahoma to Mack Dolphus and Lola Mae (Price) Ammons.
She spent most of her life in Caddo, Oklahoma and was one of eleven children. They used to attend church services in an old school building called Buffalo. At 11 or 12 years of age, she found Jesus and was baptized in river water in Maytoy, Oklahoma. She has trusted in the Lord ever since! She later attended Robinson Baptist Church.
In high school, she was a very good basketball player, and was good at just about any other sports. After graduating high school, she met the love of her life. She married Bobby Dean Franklin on February 17, 1956 in Durant, Oklahoma. She worked as an insurance secretary at a bank in Atoka, Oklahoma. Later on, she would work years alongside her husband in their furniture business. They were together for 64 years, up until his passing. During those years, they had 3 wonderful sons.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mack Dolphus and Lola Mae (Price) Ammons; husband Bobby Dean Franklin; oldest son Dennis Franklin; grandson Caleb Franklin; brothers Leroy Ammons, Dolphus “Dockey” Ammons, Carrol Wayne Ammons, JC Ammons; sisters Susie Cates, Dorothy “Dot” Parker and Roxie “Totsie” Parks.
Survivors include her sons Mike Franklin and wife Donna, Allen Franklin and wife Ladonna; grandchildren Robert, Darron, Mikey, Caitlyn, Lashona, Derik, Chase, Aaron, Colt, Coby, Cort; great grandchildren Andrew, Cayden, Leeann, Kalob, Micaiah, Tanner, Carden, Alexia, Holton, Delaney, Waylon, Mason, Alexander, Sebastian, Jaycie, James, Dean, Preston, Titus, Jesse; great-great grandchild Ezekiel; siblings Sybil Franklin, Bill Ammons, Mack Ammons Jr. as well as other extended family and friends.
A family visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00PM on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Gordon Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma.

He was born on Tuesday, August 25, 1970 in Sherman, Texas to Wesley Lynn Milner and Sandra Lee (Lockler) Weber. He married Trisha Rayleen (Kindred) Milner on October 7, 2000 in the small community of Jumbo, Oklahoma.
Rick grew up in the Tom Bean/Howe area of Grayson County and attended school in both Denison and Sherman, Texas. After leaving school, Rick lived for a time working the cattle ranches of West Texas and the Panhandle. This time began a lifelong love of bronc horses, rodeo, leather work and high top boots.
He later paid his way through a Texas Police Academy in the early 1990’s, by working in mall security. Rick attended both electrical lineman and railroad conductor certification training, and worked some, during his 30’s and 40’s, in those industries. However, his call to the public service of law enforcement was always where he returned. During his career, Rick served at the Grayson Co, Fannin Co and Bryan Co Sheriff’s departments as well as local agencies including Bells, Honey Grove and Trenton, Texas, SOSU Campus Police, MCSO security and Achille, OK PD.
In addition to his grandchildren, he enjoyed leather work, firearms, cooking and building both model trains and model cars. On holidays and weekends you could find him either working or bringing a pan full of meat to a family event. His specialties were smoked beef brisket and slow cooked little smokies in grape jelly. There are many people in Texoma who would say he saved them from accidents and bad decisions which varied from locking their keys in their cars to cardiac arrest.
Rick was preceded in death by his father Wesley Lynn Milner; mother Sandra Lee (Lockler) Weber; stepfather Ken Weber; grandparents Robert and Wynema Pruiett Lockler, William (Bill) and Juanita Randolph Milner.
Survivors include his wife Trisha Rayleen (Kindred) Milner of the home; children Jarrod Gabriel Milner of Sherman, Texas, Shakinna Brooke Milner of Caddo, Oklahoma, Kolby Ray Milner and Brittany Harner of Durant, Oklahoma, Welsey Paul Milner and Amy Rudd of Denison, Texas, Megan Renee Milner of Durant, Oklahoma; grandchildren Jackson Wiley Fletcher and Cooper Ray Scarberry of Caddo, Oklahoma, Hayz’n Ray, Brys’n Lee Ray and Rayleigh Ann Marie Milner of Durant, Oklahoma, Wyatt Bradley Milner of Denison, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law Keith and Katy Milner of Bixby, Oklahoma, Robbie and Ladonna Milner of Whitesboro, Texas; aunt and uncle, Sherrie and Paul Walton, Denison Texas; parents-in-law Ray and Kathie Kindred of Clayton, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Rebecca and Bryan McDonald and brother-in-law James Kindred; as well as other extended family and friends.
