Emil Seketa - February 27, 1933 - November 16, 2023

Departed: 11/16/2023 (Cleveland)
Obituary Preview: On November 16, 2023, Emil John Seketa, passed away quietly at the age of 90, while surrounded by his two loving children. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but enjoyed the majority of his years with his family in Hudson, Ohio. It was at his home in Hudson that he relished working in his yard, tinkering with his "toys," and feeding his birds so that they would have full bellies for the cold Ohio winter months.
After attending Euclid High School, Emil went to work at a local factory in order to help support his family after experiencing the difficult Depression years. In 1953, he was drafted into the Army where he liked the thrill of jumping from airplanes as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He later became a member of the Military Police which gave him many exciting stories to tell the grandchildren.
Upon return from the military, Emil joined a local Croatian singing group, Slavulj, where he met his future wife, Violet Rescic. They married in 1957 at St. Paul's Croatian Catholic Church in Cleveland then raised their family together for the next 66 years until his death. He retired from Terex GM in 1984 and never looked back. Throughout his working years, Emil relished the family vacations, especially the month-long tour of Europe, where he had fond memories of spending time with family in "Stari Kraj." He loved reminiscing about those days during the holidays when everyone was gathered in the family home that he and Violet built.
Emil dearly loved his two children, Paul and Suzanne, and was always a pillar of encouragement to both of them and was ever available to lend a hand. He would always make sure that they knew he was very proud of them as well as his three grandchildren whom he adored. Emil was the ever doting grandfather who would play whatever game his grandchildren desired and continued to encourage them in their future endeavors. Lauren, Nicholas and Joseph have wonderful memories of grandpa to share throughout their lives.
He is preceded in death by his father, John, his mother, Anna (Sladic) and his sister Zora Bucar (Nick). Emil is survived by his wife, Violet, his son, Paul Seketa (Jennifer), his daughter Suzanne Prentovich (Michael) and his three grandchildren, Lauren, Nicholas and Joseph Prentovich. Per his wishes, Emil was cremated and, in the future, will be buried next to his wife at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, Ohio

Blanca Montoya - December 22, 1935 - September 02, 2023

Departed: 09/02/2023 (Cleveland)
Obituary Preview: Blanca Emma Montoya Sanchez was born to Ana Josefina La Verde Mesa and Jesus Antonio Sanchez Mejia on December 22, 1935, in the Department of Antioquia in the beautiful South American country of Colombia. Blanca was raised in a huge family of 7 brothers and 4 sisters. She is survived by one brother and three sisters: Jesus, Eunice, Elena, and Lucia.
Blanca is the mother of three wonderful children: Gladys Elena, William, and Alina Maria. She has also embraced Tammy Lynn as her third daughter; mother of Yami Lynn whom Mamá always considered her 8th grandchild. Mamá leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Adriana, Jessica, Alexandra, Garry, Anthony, Anila, and Aaron. Mamá was blessed to be the great grandmamá to Aireyin, Brennen, Alannah, Grabielito, Aracely, Ava, Aviana, Roger Alexander, Antoinette, and A'maya. Blanca additionally departs from her beloved niece Elizabeth and her great nieces Aaliyah, Monica, Jazzalyn, and great nephew Marcus.
Blanca's legacy initiated when she left Colombia, her family, friends, career, language, culture, traditions, and customs, in search of the American Dream and a more fruitful life. Broken hearted to leave Gladys and her husband Gildardo behind, she journeyed alone to New York City in the fall of 1969 where un-beknown to her was with child. In the Spring of 1970, Blanca gave birth to her only son, William. Blanca and William departed the big city and moved to Norwalk, Connecticut where she befriended a Colombian family who took them in and made both feel at home.
Blanca worked tirelessly and was granted a petition to bring her husband and Gladys to the USA. Five years later, Blanca's harvest gave birth to her youngest child Alina in the winter of 1975. Blanca and Gildardo took various blue collared jobs to raise their three children until the family ventured to Cleveland, Ohio in 1982.
Mamá will always be remembered for influencing the lives of so many, offering always to clean someone's home spotless from top to bottom, cook "sopitas de pollo" when you became sick, or make the best iced tea in the world. Her seriousness and yet cantankerous actions will always draw chuckles of laughter as well as her witty "Paisa" Antioquian sayings or her bold reminding proclamations that she was in charge.
While Parkinson's disease was the major contributing factor in the earning of her heavenly wings, we will never forget her strength to keep walking, talking, eating and tidying up something around the house. Parkinson's did not win this battle, for amid its evil, it only strengthened the bond of her family, gluing it together with the love of FAMILIA that she leaves behind.
For those who loved her and valued her ways and sayings, we are certain that Mamá was grateful for your kindness, support, and entertaining her humor. As usual, she would say to you, "God Bless You", while gesturing with her hand the sign of the cross over your head saying, "In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit", and completing the blessing by throwing you a farewell kiss.
Family will receive friends at Immaculate Conception Church, 4129 Superior Avenue, Cleveland on Friday, September 8 from 9-11 A.M. Funeral Mass to follow at 11 A.M. Private Interment at Riverside Cemetery in Cleveland.
