Kenneth P. Hanks - September 02, 1958 - March 24, 2022

Departed: 03/24/2022 (Midvale)
Obituary Preview: Kenny Hanks was born on September 2, 1958 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Floyd and Pauline Hanks.
He peacefully passed away on March 24th, 2022 in Salt Lake.
Kenny loved downtown Salt Lake and lived there his entire life. He was a passionate cook who worked for various restaurants and clubs throughout the city. He was dedicated to his profession up until he physically couldn't work any longer.
Kenny was a sweet caring gentleman who had a soul unlike any other. He always had a way of having everyone in the room laughing and smiling with his goofy antics and hilarious jokes.
He loved horror movies and collected every horror movie he could get his hands on. He loved spending an evening binge watching horror movies, eating pizza and drinking his Coke. It was nothing to get a phone call from him talking about the last Bigfoot documentary he watched or to discuss aliens. He was a character!
You always found yourself leaving his place with a smile on your face and an arm full of gifts. He always had something to give you every time you visited him.
He had a memory like no other and could tell you a story from 50 years ago and remember the date and time of everything that happened. It was easy to get caught up listening to all the stories he had growing up.
Kenny, you made a huge impact during your time here on earth. You will be deeply missed.
Kenny is preceded in death by his Father Floyd, mother Pauline, sister Pam and brother Rick.
He is survived by his youngest brother Mick (Sherri) Hanks, oldest brother Jim Hanks, youngest sister Wendy Hanks and many nieces and nephews.

Larry James Ririe - December 11, 1953 - March 23, 2022

Departed: 03/23/2022 (Midvale)
Obituary Preview: Larry James Ririe passed away at the age of 68, due to a heart attack at his home in Logan, Utah on Wednesday, March 23. He was with his wife Celece when he passed and was comforted in his final moments.
Larry was born in Tooele, Utah on December 11th, 1953. He grew up largely in Tooele chasing rabbits and the neighbor’s cats. All wild life trembled in fear as he honed his hunting skills. His longtime friend/partner in crime Craig daubed him Nimrod aka “The Great White Hunter.” These two met in the mission field and a lifetime friendship was made. As this duo terrorized the great state of Utah many pot-gut squirrels, trout, deer, and pheasant paid the ultimate sacrifice to their antics most of which cannot be repeated here. His family would tell you there is nigh a hill that Larry didn’t hunt or harvest a deer on.
Larry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the Philippines from 1973 to 1975. He developed a deep love for the country and its people and was very proud of the growth in the years that followed. Larry loved to slip in a story about his time in the Philippines to every family member, friend and often complete strangers every chance he got. You could try to change the subject but Larry was not easily deterred and against your will he would gladly retell a story over and over.
Larry’s love for hunting was only superseded by his love for his family and the legacy to be left behind. He loved his wife and children dearly. However, once grandchildren entered the picture the new favorites were quickly established, Grandpa now had a new generation of avid listeners to enjoy his stories and bask in his attention.
Larry was an avid fisherman. It didn’t matter if it was 100 degrees, 0 degrees, 4 in the morning or middle of the day Larry was happy to go. Nothing brought him more joy then sitting on a lake shore with a pole in his hand. Sharing that experience with his family was one of the greatest joys of his life. After surviving a heart attack, he was able to go to Pineview with his son and grandson and experience crappy fishing and the yank-fest it can be. It made his day, It turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks.
Larry is survived by his wife Celece and six children Laurel Howell, Kenny Ririe, Brayland Ririe, Breeyawn Lybbert, Travis Ririe and Lance Ririe, grandchildren Memphis, Tyler, Kenyon, Kyson, Kipton, MaKyla, Shea, Rafe, Apollo, Rhys, Porter, Sawyer, and Harper, his siblings Bryan Ririe, Brad Ririe, Patty Tucker and Char Mitchel. Larry is preceded in death by his father Ken Ririe, mother Beverly Robbins, sister Teresa, son Troy, and grandson Liam.
Services will be held at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St. in Midvale, Utah at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 30th. Following the services Larry will be interred at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy.

Pearl Marie Jackson - September 22, 1948 - March 12, 2022

Departed: 03/12/2022 (Midvale)
Obituary Preview: Pearl Marie Jackson, a friend to all who knew her, peacefully passed away in her sleep on March 12, 2022. She was born to Vera and Norman Jackson in San Gabriel, California September 22, 1948. She grew up on the sunny beaches of California, being a “California Girl” through and through. She moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1979, where she lived for the majority of the remainder of her life. She had three kids who she loved dearly.
Pearl held many jobs over the years and retired from Auto Owner’s Insurance about 10 years ago. She was able to make friends everywhere she went. She had a wonderful smile and sparkling eyes that made people gravitate towards her. She would especially love sitting around a table and playing Skip-bo, Rack-O, or any other card game all night long. You would find Pearl always singing or humming, having music always playing in her soul. She loved 60’s memorabilia and dreamed of the day when she would own a ’57 Chevy. She also would spend hours making jewelry to give to friends.
The place Pearl loved more than anywhere else was being at a beach. Having her feet in the sand, feeling the warm, humid air, and having her camera ready to take photographs of anything that inspired her at the moment. There are stacks of photos of all of her friends over the years because she loved capturing moments with the people she loved.
Pearl was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served a mission for the Church in Santiago, Chile. She frequently talked about her belief in the Church, always looking to serve where she was able to.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Vera Jackson, her sister Norma, and her brother Paul. She has many friends and family that will be there with open arms and smiles waiting to hug her as she passes into heaven. She had missed them all so incredibly much over the years. She leaves behind her children Liz (Warren) Earle, Patrick McPartland, Marie (Kevin) Hauschildt, and lots of grand puppies. As a family, we would like to thank all those who have been there for our Mom. Many of you were there for the good times while also helping her through the hard times. We would especially like to send sincere gratitude to her longtime friend Marilyn (Andrew) Smith, who has always been an incredible support not only to our Mom but to our whole family.
Pearl chose to be cremated, with funeral services held on Saturday, March 26, 2022, starting at 12:00 P.M. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 6890 Whitmore Way, Cottonwood Heights, 84121. Darwin W. Cottle - November 25, 1938 - March 05, 2022

Departed: 03/05/2022 (Midvale)
Obituary Preview: Darwin W. Cottle, our beloved husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on March 5, 2022 following a lengthy and valiant battle with cancer. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant!”
Darwin was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1938, to Charles Edward and Jessie Irene Wilkins Cottle in Brigham City, Utah. He spent his earliest years in areas surrounding Malad, Idaho where he experienced family farm life and attended Idaho Public School #24 and Malad Elementary School. He later moved with his family to Salt Lake City, Utah and graduated from West High School where he excelled as a member of the basketball team. He was selected in 1957 as an “All-State Basketball Player.” He went on to play college basketball and continued playing recreational basketball well into his 50’s. Darwin loved all sports and his proudest achievement was completing the 26-mile St. George Marathon at the age of 49. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and many outdoor activities with family over the years. He was also a proud veteran of the Utah National Guard, where he served his country and state with distinction for several years.
Darwin was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a devout testimony of the gospel. He maintained a close relationship with his Savior throughout his life. Darwin’s love language was service and his “super power” was making those around him feel loved. He served in several bishoprics, on high councils, and in many other leadership callings, but his favorite time was spent with the youth and in the scouting program. He was extremely proud that all five of his sons are Eagle Scouts. He also served as a worker in both the Mt. Timpanogos and the Oquirrh Mountain Temples.
Darwin married Ethel Gwen Linnebach on January 14, 1960 and they were later sealed for eternity in the St. George Temple on March 18, 1961. Darwin and Gwen raised their beautiful family of eight children in Cedar City, Orem, and later Pleasant Grove, Utah. They were married for 44 years before Gwen passed away from cancer on June 27, 2004. Darwin was her loving caregiver for several years before her passing. Darwin later met Cheryl Jensen Peacock in a grief support group where they first became good friends united by a common loss. Darwin and Cheryl were married on April 7, 2006. They made their final home together in Taylorsville, Utah. They were devoted to one another and lovingly honored both their late spouses and their blended families. Darwin cherished Cheryl’s children and grandchildren as his own and she did likewise. They were able to find much joy and happiness in their journey together over the past 16 years.
Darwin worked successfully for many years in the sales industry and was later employed as a supervisor at the Utah State Developmental Center, where he eventually retired in 2005.
Darwin was happiest when giving service and his greatest challenge during recent years was having to give up his role as a caregiver and be on the receiving end of needed service. His family was honored to repay his lifetime of service in this small way. Even as he was physically failing, his spirit of love and concern for others remained strong. Darwin’s greatest love and source of happiness was his family. His legacy will certainly live on here through his wonderful posterity. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply and was extremely proud of each of them. He was thrilled that many of his children and grandchildren unselfishly elected to serve church missions and in the U.S. Military. Darwin’s other great love was basketball, and he was a devoted Utah Jazz and BYU fan. He rarely missed seeing a game and loved to discuss stats or recount plays with anyone who would listen. If there is basketball in heaven, we know Darwin will be playing in the All-Star game there. He will remain our family’s “All-Star” forever! We extend deep gratitude to all who have assisted in caring for Darwin over the years. His life was extended many times as result of outstanding medical care and expertise. Your kindness will never be forgotten. We will dearly miss our “darlin’ Darwin,” but also rejoice in the knowledge that he is now enjoying heavenly reunions with many loved ones and is reaping his well-deserved eternal reward. Trudy Louise Jentzsch - September 12, 1939 - March 03, 2022

Departed: 03/03/2022 (Midvale)
Obituary Preview: Our mom, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma, sister, and friend, Trudy passed away peacefully in her home Thursday afternoon surrounded by her family. Her final wishes were honored as all five of her children surrounded her.
Trudy was born to Virginia Bertelson and Theodore George Weidow, in Sparks, Nevada. She was the fifth of ten children and also had eight half siblings. She married the love of her life Raymond Eugene Jentzsch on August 17, 1957, together they raised five children.
Trudy spent her life serving her family in her home. She supported her athletes in the stands, provided home cooked meals, and kept the house nice and tidy. So much so, that she is the reason cleaning companies warn people not to mix products such as Bleach, Ammonia and Comet in a toilet bowl. You’re welcome. After growing up not knowing where her next meal would come from, Trudy made sure everyone left her home with a full belly and a snack for the road. Even if that snack was “slightly out of date.”
Trudy was a self-proclaimed bartender and if you were ever lucky enough to fall victim to her bartending...there was not a hangover cure in the world that could touch what had happened to you.
She was known for her legendary fudge. She would spend days burning her fingers to make sure everyone had their own batch for the holiday season. Trudy also spent hours passing along the secret to her family to carry on the tradition.
Trudy is survived by her five children, Tammy (Gary) Clark, Ray (Traci) Jentzsch, Terrie (Cory) Workman, Robert (Stacie) Jentzsch, Randy (Wendy) Jentzsch; 37 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and 11 siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 5 siblings.
Per her request a private celebration of life will be held for immediate family.

Rita Robbins - November 06, 1930 - February 22, 2022

Departed: 02/22/2022 (Midvale)
Obituary Preview: Twos-day, 2-22-22, heaven welcomed our mother, Rita Baker Robbins, home after 91 years. Rita was born on November 6, 1930, in Provo, Utah to Raymond Orestes and Elma June Smith Baker. She was the oldest of eight children. She was raised most of her life in Draper, Utah on Relation Street, surrounded by many aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents.
Mom married David Owen Hamilton in 1949. They lived many years in Riverton, and together had six children: Thomas David, Robert ‘O’, Rae Anna, Kent Baker, Rita Kim, and Scott Owen. Above all else, Mom loved her family. She was always involved in our activities---be it baseball, track, volleyball, softball, basketball, Band, Scouting, Church advancements, she was there.
Mom taught us to work and to serve others. We all knew how to garden—planting, weeding, harvesting, or just enjoying her many beds of flowers. She taught us to care for the simple things and to take care of what we had. Her greatest love of service was serving her ancestors. She loved genealogy and encouraged us to always search out those who were related, and care for their needs as well. She has instilled that same love in many of her children and grandchildren.
Mom taught us to love God and follow His teachings. She always served in the LDS church. It didn’t matter if it was Cub Scouts (her LOVE), 4-H, Primary, Relief Society, Sunday School, or being a visiting teacher—you could always depend on her to responsibly serve and magnify whatever she was asked to do. She loved people. She always said, “A stranger is just a friend I haven’t met yet.” She lived that concept to her last days.... everyone loved Rita.
In 1965, we moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where Mom accepted the challenges of a new life, helping dad with all his entrepreneurial quests, with six crazy kids tagging along. We always had a ‘hobby farm’ and learned the responsibilities of caring for our animals. She tolerated the FFA ‘points’ surprises she’d find in the deep freeze on a regular basis. She loved to go camping and family vacations and could pack the car or trailer in minutes after a phone call that we were going.
Mom married Marvin Irven Robbins on May 18, 1973. She inherited three more sons with the marriage: Marvin Daniel, Gary Irven, and James Michael. The new Robbins family moved back to Sandy, Utah, where they lived on Crocus Street. Mom and Dad’s influence continued with the raising of the last six kids, with many of the same adventures and influences from our early childhood memories.
Mom has been anxiously waiting for her turn to ‘graduate’ since Marv passed in 2017. We’re sure she skipped through the pearly gates, twirling and dancing for joy. She left us behind to join Marv, her son Bob, grandson Tallin, granddaughter Lacey; her parents, and three siblings, Elma, Ray Sterling, Kathleen Kaye. Mom’s living legacy includes 8 children, 42 grandchildren, 101 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. Her living siblings include Joseph Orestes, Bonnie Jean, Philip Ray, and Susan LaRee. Thank you, Mom, for the memories. We love you and we will miss you!!
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Crescent 7th Ward LDS Chapel, 949 E. 10600 S., Sandy, UT. Viewings will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State, Midvale, UT; and prior to services on Monday, from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, UT. A You-Tube link will be available at: https://youtu.be/T7xj3R-Hnug
We, as a family, would like to thank Mom’s neighbors and ward members who served her in her last weeks in Sandy; also, the professionals at Intermountain Home Care and Hospice who cared for her and our family during Mom’s last weeks in Circleville, Utah. Their legacy of terminal care with dignity will not soon be forgotten.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a permanent record of a person's life and can be a valuable resource for genealogical research.

Who writes an obituary?

Obituaries are typically written by family members or close friends of the deceased, although they may also be written by funeral home staff or professional obituary writers. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.
