William A. Schwartz - October 13, 1946 - March 28, 2022

Obituary Preview: William A. Schwartz, 75, of Granger, passed away at home on Monday, March 28, 2022.
Bill was born October 13, 1946 in South Bend to the late Ralph and Annette (Hendrix) Schwartz. He grew up in South Bend and was a proud graduate of John Adams High School, Class of 1965. He lived in the Michiana area his entire life.
Bill was a Police Officer for the City of Mishawaka for 32 years. During those years he had many positions: accident car, detective, captain of the traffic division and instructor for traffic school were some of his favorites. He was also featured on the program On the Case with Paula Zahn. If you are interested you can see him in the episode Deadly Hymn. He would like that.
Bill married Karen (Young) Moore on April 11, 1986 and she survives after more than 35 years of devoted marriage. Also surviving is his son, Jeff (Maggie) Schwartz and their family. Bill is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in law, Jan (Rob) Zelasko, Shirley Jones, Jim (Rose) Smolka and Verna Kline. Also left to cherish his memory are many nieces and nephews including Kara (Jimmy) Bell and children Jessie and Kassidy, Nico (Katherine) Squadroni and children Leo and Gia, John (Jackie) Speake and Jim (Kim) Speake.
Bill loved being a police officer, fishing at Muskie Bay in Canada, his wife, family and friends, fishing the local lakes, anything in nature, fishing for blue gills, making and repairing fishing rods, any dog, fishing for bass, tinkering and figuring out ways to fix things, and of course, fishing.
Bill dealt with many health issues over the last 12 years and showed such strength to overcome so many obstacles. Thank you to those who helped his fight especially Dr. Bilal Ansari and Beth Mondschein and the staff at Michiana Hematology Oncology and Dr. Matthew Kościeliski and Erin Rissler of Pulmonary & Critical Care Associates.
Special thanks to Bill’s caregiver, Boas and the staff at Always Best Care for all the help and support these last few months. Also, the Center for Hospice Care who helped navigate this last part of our journey.
Inspired by his friend, Bob Pawlowski, Bill generously donated his body to the Anatomical Education Program at Indiana University School of Medicine.
A Memorial Service to honor Bill’s life will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, April 9, at Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
Visitation will be from 1 pm to 3 pm on Saturday.

Obituary Preview: Steven J. Bowering, 58, of Osceola, passed away at home on Sunday, March 20, 2022.
Steve was born March 7, 1964 in South Bend to Victor and Carolyn (Wolfe) Bowering. He grew up South Bend and lived in the area most of his life. At one time he owned and operated Bowering’s Dry Wall, a family business, and he also worked in another family business, Pioneer Construction. Steve was later employed in manufacturing. He greatly enjoyed music and playing his guitar. Steve loved the outdoors and liked fishing. He also was talented in building things.
Steve is survived by his two sons, Tyler Bowering of Granger and Joshua Bowering of Mishawaka; his mother, Carolyn DeBruyne of Mishawaka; two sisters, Dawn Mercer of Colorado and Lynette (Daniel) Ciula of Osceola; and one grandchild, Kingston Bowering.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Victor Bowering; and his brother, Mark Mercer.
Steve will be buried privately at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. There will be no formal services.

Randy Robinson - January 21, 1965 - March 17, 2022

Obituary Preview: Randy L. Robinson, 57, of South Bend, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Center for Hospice Care - Raclin House in Mishawaka.
Randy was born January 21, 1965 in Madison, Indiana, to the late Hubert and Norma Jean (Scranton) Robinson. He was one of six children and the family moved to Florida in the 1960’s where he attended Hudson High School. When he was 16 years old, he moved to Amarillo, Texas for two years before returning to Florida.
Randy loved cars and working on them. In Florida, he was a mechanic at a gas station for quite some time and also worked in the restaurant business. He loved to cook and grill. Some of his hobbies included building things, gardening, antiquing and he was an avid Notre Dame Football fan and enjoyed watching their games.
There wasn’t much that Randy couldn’t do. He always tried his best and liked helping those in need. He was a great brother and friend. Randy was a partner to Rick for twenty years. They were good for each other and worked well together. Randy had a great sense of humor and was always telling jokes and making others laugh. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, especially his sense of humor.
Randy’s surviving family includes his life partner, Rick Mitchell of South Bend; siblings, Dolores Robinson of Goshen, Pamela Henderson of Goshen, Robbie Robinson of Grand Junction, CO, Tammy Mosier of South Bend, and Timmy Robinson of Pinellas Park, Florida; and nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 pm on Tuesday, March 22, at Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. A Time of Remembrance will begin at 8 pm. Cremation will follow. Memorial donations are suggested to the funeral home to assist with expenses

Charles Henry Krueger - May 24, 1936 - March 14, 2022

Obituary Preview: Charles Krueger, 85, of Mishawaka, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022.
Charles Henry Krueger was born May 24, 1936 in South Bend, Indiana. He was the son of the late Charles Henry Krueger and Eva Dorothy (Zimmerman) Krueger of Mishawaka, Indiana. He graduated from St. Joseph Grade School and Mishawaka High School in 1954. Chuck, as he was known to all, graduated from Indiana University in 1958 with a degree in Finance and was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi financial fraternity. His first job out of college was with the U.S. Treasury Department as a bank auditor which was interrupted by his draft into the U.S. Army which he served at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Chuck then resumed his auditing career where he met his wife-to-be, Dorothy Uebler, in Michigan City, Indiana. He then joined the Associates as an auditor and finished his career after 37 years as Head Auditor and Vice President of 1st Source Bank.
Chuck was a hard-working man from childhood. He delivered the South Bend Tribune as a young boy, watered greens at Eberhart Golf Course in college, and later owned and carefully maintained real estate purchases. He was also a champion of under-served persons by providing them employment or reasonably priced housing or by simply contributing to his many favorite charities.
Chuck was a past president of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, helped the Mishawaka Knights of Columbus acquire and pay off their move to downtown Mishawaka, was active in Mishawaka Rotary and was a 39-year member of Mishawaka’s Board of Zoning Appeals. He was president of Hinges and Handles of Osceola, Indiana. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka. His hobbies included coin and stamp collecting and golfing.
Chuck is survived by sons, Tom (Denise) and John (Camille); Tom’s daughter, Angela, and John’s son, Andrew; and Chuck’s good friend and mother of his children, Dorothy Krueger.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Tuesday, March 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka. Chuck will be laid to rest next to his parents at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
Visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm on Monday, March 21, at Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.

Kenneth, known to many as Kenny or Omar was born June 6, 1967 in South Bend to the late Earl and Joyce (Hunt) Boyer, Sr.
Kenny was employed for many years as a Fork Lift Technician at Honeywell. His greatest passion was motorcycles. He was a member and director for ABATE. Kenny also belonged to the “unofficial” WSBT Biker Group. He enjoyed fishing, riding 4 wheelers and camping. Kenny was a member of the Crumstown Conservation Club and the auxiliary of VFW Post #1954. He enjoyed Ham Radios and belonged to ARES and was certified for RACE.
Kenny is survived by his three sons, Kyle (Taryn) Boyer, Jacob (Selena) Boyer and Ben (Taylor) Boyer; his companion and partner, Vera Baxter; two brothers, Michael (Shelly) Boyer and Jerry (Martha) Boyer; two sisters, Deborah (Lewis) Singleton and Christine Boyer; his former wife, Denise Stigner; and many nieces and nephews; and not to be forgotten, his dog, Titus.
Kenny was preceded in death by a brother, Earl (Darlene) Boyer, Jr.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will begin at 4 pm on Saturday, March 19, at VFW Post 1954, 66992 Tamarack Road, North Liberty.

Obituary Preview: Mary R. Hurst, 64, of South Bend, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022, following a long illness.
Mary was born February 17, 1958 in Mishawaka, where she grew up and graduated from Mishawaka High School.
Mary was united in marriage to Gary E. Hurst on August 28, 1976. Over the years the couple lived in Osceola, Buchanan and South Bend.
Mary was a homemaker who enjoyed baking and was especially known for her cookies and brownies. She loved decorating her home, entertaining and having parties. Mary and Gary enjoyed cruises together. At one time she sold “Home Interiors”.
Mary’s Christian Faith was an important part of her life. She was baptized in Jesus Name and received the Holy Ghost at Christ Temple Apostolic in South Bend and attended First Pentecostal Church in Edwardsburg.
Mary is survived by her husband of over 45 years, Gary; two children, Danell (Brad) Geans and Matthew (Dawn) Hurst; nine grandchildren, Remington (Lauren) Geans, Ryland (Demi) Geans, Meghan (A.J.) Garcia, Ariel Velazquez, Alberto Velazquez, Sonia Velazquez, Carlos Pagan, Madison Hurst and Greyson Hurst; nine great grandchildren; five sisters, Rebecca (Terry) Parker, Jeannie (Dennis) Severns, Regina Rose-Sanchez, Kathy (Teddy) Goodson and Nora (Jeff) Redding; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by her fathers, Morris Curtis and Glen Rose; her mother, Mavis Rose; and a sister, Sheila Rose.
Services honoring Mary’s life and faith will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 17, at Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with her son-in-law, Pastor Bradley Geans leading the service. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Warren "Rod" D. Chamberlin - December 27, 1936 - March 06, 2022

Obituary Preview: Warren D. “Rod” Chamberlin, 85, of Mishawaka, passed away at home on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
Warren was born on December 27, 1936, and grew up on Wenger Avenue in Mishawaka, along with his nine older brothers and sisters. After completing St. Joseph Elementary School and Beiger Junior High, he attended Mishawaka High School, where he was an accomplished long-distance runner on the track and cross country teams before graduating in 1956.
Warren began his extensive working career mixing milkshakes at Mishawaka’s first McDonald’s drive-in on Lincolnway West during the day, and closing up on the evening shift at another McDonald’s in Elkhart. He gained valuable experience from a variety of jobs until he began serving the community as a custodian for School City of Mishawaka for 32 years, with the majority of his career at Mishawaka High School.
Just when many had assumed Warren was a committed bachelor, at the age of 37 he fell in love with Joyce Ruthsatz. They were married on September 28, 1974, and shared more than 42 years together until she passed away in November of 2017.
Warren enjoyed a variety of activities throughout his life. Besides excelling in competitive golfing competitions on Putt-Putt golf courses, Warren was also a collector of depression era glassware, sports cards and vintage beer cans. His greatest joy, however, came from his extensive collection of Peanuts memorabilia, with a definite emphasis on anything Snoopy! Warren had one of the largest collections in the state, and he was a founding member of the annual Snoopy Midwest Collectors Fest - traveling around the country for its annual conventions.
Preceding Warren in death were his wife, Joyce; parents George L. and Bernice (Edgar) Chamberlin; brothers Edgar, Donald, Bruce, Ray; sisters Alice, Sally, Frances.
Warren is survived by a brother Tom (Gerry) Chamberlin, a sister Ruthie Hinton and dozens of nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Wednesday, March 9, from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with a rosary preceding the visitation at 3:15 p.m. Visitation will also be Thursday from 9:30 -10:15 at the funeral home.  The family requests that masks be worn at the visitations.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 10, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill St., Mishawaka, where Warren was baptized and raised.  Rev. Jacob Meyer of St. Monica Catholic Church, where Warren and Joyce were members as adults, will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Frank A. Zappia Jr. of Mishawaka, IN, passed away at the age of 83 on Friday, March 4, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
Frank was born April 21, 1938 to the late Frank A. Sr. and Rose (Fotia) Zappia in Mishawaka, IN where he remained his entire life.
Frank was married to Thelma M. (Cole) Zappia for over 64 years after they were united in marriage on October 19, 1957.
Frank enjoyed helping others and always put others first. You would be hard pressed to find a more avid Notre Dame fan, and he spent many weekends at football games and the women’s basketball games. He was happiest when he was busy and was an avid puzzle builder. He enjoyed playing cards, vegetable gardening, fishing, woodworking and being outdoors. Most of all, his family and his faith were the center of his life.
Frank was a dedicated worker at Ball Band for 8 years, Wheelabrator-Frye Corporation for 18 years, and both L.L.C. and the St. Joseph County Highway Department for 5 years. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church for 42 years and was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church prior to that. He was a member of the Maria S.S. DiLoreto Society from the age of 16 and a member of the Italian-American Heritage Society.
Frank leaves behind his wife, Thelma, along with their five children Frank (Sally) Zappia III, Rosemarie (Regis) Thimons, Joseph (Andrea) Zappia, Cheryl (Douglas) Birkey and Anthony Zappia. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren Frank (Amanda) Zappia IV, Sarah Zappia, Rosa Zappia, Rebecca (Ben) Hofer, Matthew (Ellen) Thimons, Nathan (Wenzday) Thimons, Michala Zappia, Holly (David) Stanton, Zachary (Val) Birkey, Caleb (Allix) Birkey, Josh (Kayla) Birkey and Emma (Christian) Maxwell; sixteen great grandchildren; a sister, Pam (Sherman) Deal; two sisters-in-law, Sara and Kay Zappia; and many nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his brothers, Dominic, Anthony, Joseph, Patrick, Rocco, and Antonio Zappia (in infancy) and two sisters, Margaret (Joseph) Saldana and Mary (Joseph) Catanzarite.
Visitation will be from 3 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, March 10, with the Rosary to follow at 7 pm at Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
There will be a viewing for 1 hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:30am on Friday, March 11, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

LeRoy "Shorty" Davis - November 01, 1933 - March 03, 2022

Obituary Preview: LeRoy “Shorty” Davis, 88, of Mishawaka, passed away at home on Thursday, March 3, 2022.
LeRoy was born November 1, 1933 in Chicago Heights, Illinois, to the late Eben and Eleanor (Schneiwies) Davis. He lived in Mishawaka most of his life.
Shorty married the former Mary A. Roberts on July 26, 1980 and she survives. Also surviving are five children, Tom Davis, Jim Davis, Keith (Karla) Davis, David (Joanie) Nijak, and Thomas (Bonnie) Nijak; a brother, Ronald (Judy) Davis; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and a dear family friend, Sharon Hayes.
Shorty was preceded in death by three children, LeRoy Davis, Jr., Danny Davis, and Janine Schaefer; and two brothers, Eben Davis, Jr., and Robert Davis.
Shorty was a long-time member of International Laborers Union Local #645. Over the years he was employed at Sollit Construction, Casteel Construction, Schumacher Construction and retired from Christman Construction in 1995. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church and American Legion Post #161 in Mishawaka. He was an avid collector of John Wayne memorabilia and loved watching movies, especially Westerns.
Following Shorty’s wishes, there will be no formal services. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date at American Legion Post #161.

David Michael Bytner - May 03, 1939 - February 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: David Michael Bytner, 82, of Granger, passed away at home on Friday morning, February 25, 2022.
Dave was born May 3, 1939 in South Bend to the late John A. and Alice R. “Gloria” (Balka) Bytner. On May 31,1997 in South Bend he was united in marriage to the former Ava R. Tutson and she survives, along with their daughter, Brianna D. Bytner. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John A. Bytner, Jr. and Ronald J. Bytner.
Dave was a life-long area resident. He served six years in the United States Army 1st Infantry and 24th Infantry Divisions during the Vietnam War. He was a John Adams High School and Indiana University graduate. Dave had a 30-year career with U.S.F.&G. Insurance Company as a Senior Claims Representative. He was a member of the South Bend Adjusters Association, the Notre Dame Quarterback Club, and the United States Army Retirement Association. Dave was a life-long fan of Notre Dame Football and Women’s Basketball, along with a devoted passion for Boston Red Sox Baseball.
Dave’s greatest hope was for the survival and stability of this great country of ours, the United States of America.
Dave’s wishes are being honored as cremation will take place. A private service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka, with Pastor Jonathan Miller officiating. Military Honors will be provided by VFW 360 / American Legion 161 Burial Squad.
Memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Obituary Preview: Gene Clayton Ross, 90, of Granger, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Monday, February 21, 2022.
Gene was born November 15, 1931 in Mishawaka to the late Floyd and Florence (Shaffer) Ross. He was a 1950 graduate of Mishawaka High School. He served his country in the US Army from 1952 to 1954. During his life he lived in South Bend, Mishawaka and Granger.
Gene married Cleo Doll on February 11, 1961 and she survives after a loving 61 years of marriage. Also surviving are three children, Mike (Kimberly) Ross, Joe Ross, and Kim (Matthew) Sharp; and five grandchildren, David, Timmy and Alyssa Sharp, and Clayton and Casey Ross.
Gene was preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly Kellems and Linda McCoy; and a brother, Kenneth Ross.
Gene was employed for 30 years as a carpenter in the shipping department at Wheelabrator-Frye Corporation. He later worked for 5 years at Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation.
Gene was a member of Prince of Peace Church of the Brethren in South Bend. He enjoyed reading, fishing, watching and feeding the birds, yard work and working around the house. He especially liked spending time with the grandchildren. Gene and Cleo wintered for many years on Anna Maria Island in Florida.
Services honoring Gene’s life and faith will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, February 26, at Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with Pastor Ken Miller Rieman officiating. Military Honors by VFW 360 / American Legion 161 Burial Squad will follow at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Friday and 11 am to 12 noon on Saturday in the funeral home.
Cremation will follow the services with inurnment at a later date in a niche at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Mary married Joseph Velleman on April 12, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka. He preceded her in death along with a son, Thomas; eight brothers, Charles, James, Jack, Robert, Kenneth, Frank, Bill and Joseph Chamberlin; a sister, Dottie Dosmann; and a son-in-law, Paul Rerick.
Mary is survived by her five children, Michael (Kathy) Velleman, Dianne Rerick, Stephen (Nancy) Velleman, Vicki Whitten, and Linda (Andy) Knapp; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Barbara) Chamberlin; and a sister-in-law, Betty Chamberlin.
At one time, Mary was employed as a secretary with the Indiana Toll Road. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka where she was a Eucharistic Minister and belonged to the Rosary Society. She volunteered with the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and served as a Eucharistic Minister at the hospital. Mary was also a member of the MHS Chatterettes. She was a talented homemaker and was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed cross stitch and crocheting. She liked camping and traveling and even went sky diving on her 90th birthday. Most of all her family was the center of her life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 24, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.

Obituary Preview: Susan Mary Ivancsics, 68, of Mishawaka, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis after a hard-fought battle with lymphoma.
Susan was born December 4, 1953 in Mishawaka to Julius and Helen (Frick) Ivancsics. She grew up in South Bend and was a 1972 graduate of John Adams High School. Susan attended IUSB and graduated from Michiana College of Commerce.
Susan began her 47-year career with the United States Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Indiana, in 1974 in South Bend. In 1988, she transferred as Deputy in Charge to establish the Bankruptcy Court’s Fort Wayne office. She transferred back to South Bend in 1996 as Court Services Administrator where she served until her passing. Susan earned numerous awards due to her vast knowledge of bankruptcy law.
In her free time, Susan traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Most of all, Susan enjoyed helping care for her beloved niece and nephews. Susan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka.
Susan is survived by her mother, Helen Ivancsics; her four siblings, Thomas Ivancsics and wife, Tina Dombrowski of St. Paul, MN, Mary Beth of Mishawaka, IN, Robert of South Bend, IN, and Michael and his wife, Mary (Walsh) of South Bend, IN; a niece and goddaughter, Maria; and three nephews, Michael, Johnny and Stephen. Susan was preceded in death by her father, Julius Ivancsics.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, February 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Visitation is Sunday, February 13, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, and where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 pm.

Joe was born March 27, 1935 in Mishawaka, a son of the late Charles Leonard and Rosalie Dorothy (Huemmer) Chamberlin. He was a 1953 graduate of Mishawaka High School and was a life-long resident. Joe served his country in the US Army from 1955 – 1957.
On February 15, 1958, Joe married Elizabeth “Betty” Kohler and Betty survives. Also surviving are five children, Joseph (Becky) Chamberlin, Jr., Geneva (Tim) Brennan, Angel (Derron) Hess, Regina (Joe) Gomes and Melanie (John) Chamberlin-Dorsch; 19 grandchildren, Joseph III, Ryan, Craig, Erin, Mary, Kelsey, John, Christina, Jake, Caitlin, Alec, Joey, Liz, Cassandra, Kenny, Alexis, Merideth, Courtney and Valerie; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; a brother, Paul (Barbara) Chamberlin; and a sister, Mary Velleman.
Joe was preceded in death by seven brothers, Charles, James, Jack, Robert, Kenneth, Frank and Bill Chamberlin; and a sister, Dorothy Dosmann.
Joe was employed in maintenance for 17 years at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka, where he was a member and sang in the choir for many years. Joe was a PHJC Associate and was a proud member of Friends of Bill W. since 1962. He was active with Barber Shop singing for many years and was a member of SPEBSQSA. Joe and Betty enjoyed wintering at Winterset in Palmetto, Florida for many years, where he sang with the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, February 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery with military honors by VFW 360 / American Legion 161 Burial Squad.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday at Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.

Tom was born March 26, 1946 in Mishawaka to the late Joseph L. and Marie B. (Schumacher) Hirl. He grew up in Mishawaka and was a graduate of St. Joseph Grade School in Mishawaka and St. Joseph High School in South Bend. He served his country in the US Army from 1966 to 1969.
Tom lived many years in Angola, Indiana, where he was employed in the produce department at Meijer and was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He enjoyed making wood crafts, making and collecting model cars, and was a Notre Dame sports fan.
Tom is survived by four brothers, Joseph (Margaret) Hirl, Francis (Carolyn) Hirl, Bernard (Mary Frances) Hirl, and Peter (Kathryn) Hirl; two sisters, Barbara (Harold) Miller and Rosemary (Bruce) Hess; and many nieces and nephews including special nephews who helped with his care, Christopher and Michael Hirl.
Tom was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Agnes Hirl, Theresa Hirl, and Mary Ann Hirl.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Heritage Point and Center for Hospice Care for their care of Tom.

Obituary Preview: Shirley A. Bloom, 87, of Dandridge, Tennessee, and formerly of Lakeville, passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday evening, January 16, 2022.
Shirley was born January 4, 1935 in Mishawaka to the late Henry and Mary (Golba) Wawrzynczak. She grew up in Mishawaka and South Bend and was a graduate of South Bend Catholic High School. At a family wedding, she met James L. Bloom, and on April 24, 1954, they were united in marriage. They lived in South Bend until moving to Lakeville in 1973. She moved to Tennessee in 2016 to live with her son, Mark, and daughter-in-law, Chris.
Shirley was a homemaker and was known as an excellent cook. Her macaroni and cheese was a family favorite. She enjoyed crocheting and was an avid reader. Shirley liked to travel and especially enjoyed camping with her family where she loved sitting around the bonfire. She spent several winters in Florida. Shirley and Jim liked Polka dancing. In Tennessee, she was fond of going for boat rides, golf cart rides and spending time on the deck watching the birds. She was a former member of the Cathedral of St. Matthew in South Bend.
Shirley is survived by her three children, James B. Bloom, Susan J. Walls, and Mark D. (Chris) Bloom; her brother, Robert Wawrzynczak; four grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Bloom; a daughter, Deborah A. Bloom; and her sister, Deloras Bloom.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, April 29, at the Cathedral of St. Matthew, South Bend. Inurnment will follow in a niche at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.

Chuck was born May 2, 1952 in Mishawaka to the late Leo Charles and Marjorie Evelyn (Fore) Scheibelhut. He was a 1970 graduate of Marian High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from IUSB.
On June 15, 1974, Chuck married Linda D. Kerchner at St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka. The couple made Mishawaka their home.
Chuck was employed for 24 years in outside sales with Thunander & Son and 22 years with Boring-Smith. He was proud of his work, spending considerable time in outside sales to the RV Industry.
Chuck was a lifelong Catholic and his faith and his family were the center of his life. He enjoyed woodworking, Notre Dame football and women’s basketball, fishing, and classic movies.
Chuck is survived by his wife of over 47 years, Linda; four children, Mark (Sarah) Scheibelhut, Jennifer (Chris) Cochran, Rebecca Scheibelhut, and Thomas (Lois) Scheibelhut; four grandchildren, Adam, Ilyas, Samuel, and Sarah; and two sisters, Barbara (Ron) Armour and Kathryn (David) Ernst.
Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis and wife Peggy Scheibelhut; an infant child; and a grandson, Benedict Thomas Joseph Scheibelhut.
A Traditional Catholic Requiem Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 14, at 10:30 am EST (9:30 am CST) at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 501 Wayland Rd., Kingsford Heights, Indiana. Burial will take place on Friday at 1:30 pm EST at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

George was born July 26, 1938 in Orland, Indiana, to the late Sylvester and Roberta (Green) Eberlein. He spent most of his years growing up in the Mishawaka area. He served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1955 to 1959. This is where he met his future wife, Helen “Pat” Donahue. They were married on May 12, 1958. The couple made their home in Somerville, Massachusetts before moving to Mishawaka in 2002.
George retired after 20 years with Sears in Massachusetts. After returning to Mishawaka, he spent 14 years at Martin’s on Bittersweet, working mostly in the meat department. George was a member and usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church and American Legion #161, both in Mishawaka.
George was preceded in death by his wife 62 years, Pat; a son, George R. Eberlein, Jr.; four brothers, Joseph, Bernard, Francis and Gregory Eberlein; and two sisters, Margaret Chesser and Mary Tyler.
George is survived by a daughter, Susan Eberlein; a grandson, David Eberlein, Sr; two great grandsons, David Eberlein, Jr. and Declan Eberlein; and five sisters, Theresa Farler, Linda Atwood, LouAnn (Richard) Flannery, Kathy Pipkins and Patricia Donoho.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, January 13, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Military Honors will be by VFW 360/American Legion 161 Burial Squad.

Sharon is survived by her five children, Michael (Rhonda) Marganti, Mark Marganti, Kathi Ann (Howard) Hunt, Karen Mitchell and Teresa (Jeremy) Cirks; a sister, Carolyn (Merlin) Hanson; a sister-in-law, Pam Huffman; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and her former husband and father of her five children, Robert Anthony Marganti.
Sharon was preceded in death by husbands, Richard Redman and John Funk; and her brother, Michael Huffman.
Sharon was a Legal Assistant and Secretary for Diane Shields and Morris Rosen. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka. She did considerable volunteer work over the years, especially with her late husband, John. Sharon was a top-notch homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, vegetable and flower gardening and was always proud of keeping a nice home. She was an excellent seamstress and did considerable crocheting and knitting.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Sipocz and Barbara (Orosz) Sipocz, Gordon resided in Mishawaka most of his life. Gordon met his wife, Joanne (Osmanski), February 11, 1978. After 14 months of dating, they married on April 28, 1979, in Mishawaka. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and youngest son, Christopher. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joanne; sons Matthew (Ashley) of Mishawaka; Daniel (Jessica) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two granddaughters, Emily and Aubrey of Mishawaka; and sister, Chris (John) West of Florida.
Gordon was dedicated to his family. He worked tirelessly as a screen printer and ensured many family vacations to the beach and Disney World. He loved keeping busy outdoors, tending to his garden and taking pride in his lawn. Gordon had a lifelong interest in NASA and space, often watching early morning Space Shuttle and rocket launches. He was a proud member of the Dodge Challengers of Michiana and loved showing off his Dodge Challenger nearly as much as he loved spending time with his beloved grandchildren and pranking them.
Services honoring Gordon’s life will be held at 10 am on Friday, January 7, 2022, in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with Pastor John Contreras officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday in the funeral home.

Judy was born September 17, 1940 in Mishawaka to the late Frederick and Fern (Reid) Bock. She was a 1958 graduate of Mishawaka High School. On July 2, 1966 she married John H. Mast and the couple made Mishawaka their home.
Judy was a homemaker who had a great passion for ironing. She volunteered at Mary Phillips and John Young Schools when her children were in school. She loved making crafts and was particularly talented in sewing, cross stitch and crocheting and she made many beautiful afghans. She enjoyed going to the casino and traveling. Judy and John were on many cruises but her greatest love was spending time at the ocean and beach, especially in Florida. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s many activities. She was of the Lutheran faith.
Judy is survived by her husband of 55 years, John; two daughters, Kim (Mike) Dasen and Kelly Bounds; six grandchildren, Natalie DeYoung, Becca (Brandon) Slabach, Kasey, Karley, Izak and Jackson Bounds; four great grandchildren, Audrina, Karson, Macee and Aidan; a sister, Lynn (TC) Meuninck; and sisters-in-law, Marsha Edgar, Cathy Panis and Carole Mast.
Judy was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Al Bounds.
Services will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. Cremation will follow.

Dan was born December 29, 1935 in Mishawaka to the late Domenico and Marian (Zirille) Bezi. He was a 1954 graduate of Mishawaka High School. Dan served his country in the US Navy from 1955 to 1956 on the USS Macon (CA-132). He also served a period of time in the US Naval Reserves.
Dan married Jeanne Monseur on June 8, 1957 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka. The couple made Mishawaka their home.
Dan was a Journeyman Pipe Fitter Plumber and retired from National Standard in Niles. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church and DeAmicis Club in Mishawaka. Dan enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid Notre Dame Football fan and ushered at the stadium. He also loved the New York Yankees. Dan never met a stranger and enjoyed sharing stories with others. He was especially fond of his dog, Yogi.
Dan spoke often of missing his wife of 49 years, Jeanne, and being reunited in heaven. She preceded him in death in 2006. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Jacobs; and a granddaughter, Krystal.
Dan is survived by his four daughters, Jessica (Chris) Niedbalski, Jennifer Jacobs, Monique (George) Gergis and Stefanie (Russ) Buysse; his son, Michael Bezi; eight grandchildren, Megan, Heather, Tyler, Lexie, Daniel, Maddie, Bella and Domenic; six great grandchildren, Chloe, Joey, Chris, Gabi, Brayden and Zachary; and his brother, Frank (Pat) Bezi.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 30, in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka. Entombment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, with military honors by VFW 360/American Legion 161 Burial Squad.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 am Thursday in church.
