David Ronald Teiwes - April 22, 1942 - September 23, 2023

Departed: 09/23/2023 (Muscoda)
Obituary Preview: David Ronald Teiwes, 81 of Richland Center, passed peacefully into eternal glory on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Pine Valley Community Village, after a courageous battle against cancer.
David was born in Oak Park, Illinois to Alfred and Elisabeth (Stabenow) Teiwes. He graduated from Proviso East High School in 1960. After graduating high school, he attended Shelton College in New Jersey, then Toccoa Falls College in Georgia. When his intended career path changed course, he began his college career at Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois, from 1964 to 1968, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. There he decided he was going to dedicate his life to teaching, specifically instrumental music.
“Mr. T”, as he was well known as, to hundreds and hundreds of students, spent his life teaching others the art and love of instrumental music. He started his teaching career in Earlville, Illinois in 1968 and eventually moved to Richland Center where he would teach from 1970 to 2002, when he then retired after 34 years of teaching.
After retirement from music education, David pursued a hobby in running a shop downtown Richland Center called This-n-That Reusables for over 15 years. The shop contained collectables and resale items, just about anything you could imagine. An important relic that was a prized possession in his shop was his penny pincher machine. The "shop" gave him the opportunity to not only experience life as a small business owner, but also meet other people from all walks of life to share the love of Jesus.
David was a man of faith who cared for and nurtured the spiritual development of his family, especially his children, Danya and Evan and grandchildren Kaden and Kylie by taking them to church, praying with them and for them, and living out God's word in his daily life. He was an avid supporter of his children's athletic programs whether it was basketball, baseball, softball, or volleyball. You were sure to hear him cheering from the sidelines. He put endless hours and just as much energy into helping his children develop their athletic skills by tossing wiffle balls or rebounding free throws.
He enjoyed taking his children on trips to the rock shop in Tomah, WI and going on trips down to Illinois to visit friends and family. David loved sharing his faith in God not only with friends and family, but also with strangers that he encountered. On trips he would share God's word with others by passing out the Ten Commandment coins.
He was an avid sports fan of all teams from Chicago, especially his beloved Chicago Bears. When the Bears won, you could bet he would not let you forget.
David enjoyed collecting and selling sports cards, in fact he previously had an entire room dedicated to this hobby. This was a bond he would later share with his grandson, Kaden, as he also grew to love collecting sports cards. Antique stamping was another hobby that he had. He had print blocks created in which he could then use to create other memorable pieces. David enjoyed stamp collecting, coin collecting, and collecting victrolas.
Another interest that David pursued was going on charter fishing trips on Lake Michigan with his friend Gary Zillion. He made numerous trips to the Lake and on one particular trip he caught a prized salmon, which he eventually turned into a trophy mount.
David is survived by his children: daughter Danya Teiwes and son Evan Teiwes; two grandchildren: Kaden and Kylie; sister: Ruth Teiwes of Batavia, IL; sisters-in-law: Marge Teiwes of Wheaton, IL, Sue Teiwes of Wheaton, IL; nieces and nephews: Harry Teiwes Jr of Wheaton, IL, Cindy (Alan) Bolds of Wheaton, IL, Jeff (Rebecca) Teiwes of Palatine, IL, Mark (Becky) Teiwes of Edinburg, Texas; Jenny (Bob) Collier of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Joe (Denise) Klein of Cape Coral, FL; great nieces and nephews: Sara Bolds, Samuel (Katelyn) Bolds, Hannah (Ian) Helfert, Caleb and Jude Teiwes, Aiden and Ava Teiwes, Nathan Henson, and Natalie Klein, many other relatives, loved ones and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Elisabeth, and his brothers Harry Teiwes and Ron Teiwes.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 29, 2023, at the Free Methodist Church in Richland Center with burial to follow in the Richland Center Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Pratt Memorial Chapel on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM and again at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Pine Valley Community Village as well as Agrace Hospice for the care provided to David.
Memorial donations can be made to Agrace or designated to the David Teiwes Memorial Music Scholarship Fund, which will support students with the intent to study instrumental music education, to bring the same love of music to others that he did for so many years.
