Glen King Parker - October 06, 1936 - September 02, 2022

Departed: 09/02/2022 (Boca Raton)
Obituary Preview: BOCA RATON - Glen King Parker, 85, of Boca Raton, died Friday evening, September 2, 2022, at Boca Raton Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Manhattan and raised on Long Island, the son of Glen J.A. Parker and Valeta King, Glen moved to South Florida in the 1950s, where he married and spent all of his adult life.
Early in life he was not shy about expressing his opinion, at age 13 penning a published letter to the editor in famed Life magazine defending the then-maligned scientist, Albert Einstein. His entrepreneurial skills also started early, with an accident photography business on Long Island and then real estate and investment companies in South Florida.
He is best known for his business The Institute for Econometric Research, which revolutionized the financial investment advisory publishing industry through the application of computer-generated econometric forecasts that required overnight use of some of the most powerful computers of the early 1970s. The Institute also popularized a series of low-cost newsletters for investors, beginning with Market Logic in 1975, that helped make investment information widely available and ushered in the massive growth of mutual funds.
Glen pioneered many early direct marketing techniques that became standard fixtures of subscription marketing. The business was so successful that, after its launch of Mutual Funds Magazine in 1993, Time Inc. acquired it in 1998 in one of their rare competitor acquisitions.
He was devoted to causes of freedom of the press and civil liberties. As chair of the Freedom of the Press Committee of the Newsletter Publishers Association, he spearheaded the fight all the way to the US Supreme Court in a landmark case for publisher freedom. The case, Lowe v SEC, was unanimously decided by the Court in 1985 in favor of the publishers. He was also a longtime supporter of the ACLU.
He loved fine wine and dining and was a gourmet cook. He championed local chefs and restaurateurs and served for years as bailee (chair) of the local chapter of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, an international gastronomic society.
He was a truly devoted husband, son and father, and was tireless in making sure those he loved were supported and successful.
Surviving Glen are: his wife, Sandy, of Boca Raton; his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Nancy Parker of Brookline, MA, and children Allee, Myles and Camden; his daughter and daughter-in-law, Robin Parker and Denise Jayroe of Portland, OR, and son Zayn; his daughter, Suzanne Maddux of Alpharetta, GA, and children Mackenzie, Parker and Spencer (Tripp); his stepson, Sean Eastham of Paris, France, and children Valentine, Sacha, and Tristan; his stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Ashley and Sean Caulfield of Cohasset, MA, and children Owen, Maddie, and Finn; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Candy and Mike Donnelly of Boca Raton.

Jane Esteves-Abreu, beloved mother to her two children: Yvette & Herbert, grandmother to her four grandchildren: Richard, Jessica, Alexis & Victoria, sister to her two siblings: Raymond Anthony & Rosemarie, and close friend to so many others. Jane was also a beloved wife to her late husband, Herbert Abreu.
Jane and Herbert shared a beautiful relationship spending most of their lives together, meeting at a young age in Manhattan. Soon after, they were married and continued their journey living in New York including the Bronx, Astoria Queens, East Long Island and Deerfield Beach Florida. Their marriage was something to truly be admired and demonstrated an indescribable level of love, commitment, care, and perseverance throughout their forty-seven years together. Jane’s love and loyalty was also shared with her family and friends near and far. There has never been a time where she thought of herself first before helping or caring for others around her.
Jane’s story and the impact to her family and friends is truly significant to anyone who had the opportunity to be in her presence. Her ability to touch people’s lives was effortless to her. She worked for years in the Mount Sinai of Queens Hospital and then in real estate once she lived in Florida. She was also very engaged with her community and helped in so many ways to improve that community’s quality of life. Her reach to people was so vast and everyone was able to feel her genuine sincerity, whether you knew her for one day or for your whole life. Those who knew Jane will know how much of an understatement it is when we say that she will truly be missed and forever in all our hearts. The memories we share with her will always be a part of our own stories as well.

Bruce Carl Nisula - January 15, 1945 - August 30, 2022

Departed: 08/30/2022 (Boca Raton)
Obituary Preview: NISULA, BRUCE C., born January 15, 1945 in Hartford Connecticut. Died August 30, 2022 in Boca Raton, Florida after a multi-year battle with cancer. He was pre-deceased (2007) by his loving wife of 41 years, Susan and survived by his sons Brian and Kenneth and daughters-in-law Kaitlyn and Lisa and grandchildren Tara, Tasha, Josh and Kristin, Victoria and James, and Karli and great grandchildren Charlotte, Otto, and Jack. First and foremost, Bruce was the quintessential patriarch. There was nothing more important to him than the well-being and success of his family. Bruce never missed his sons’ sporting events, continually nurtured their education (no easy task), and was the best example of a contributing member of society he could be; he mastered the role of Father. This continued as his family matured and expanded with the hosting of family gatherings at the lake in Frye Island, Maine. Bruce’s competitive nature and drive for success emerged early in life playing baseball. He may not have been the fastest kid on the team, but that didn’t stop him, he simply hit the ball farther than the other players. Problem solved. Bruce’s drive for success was not limited to athletics as he attacked his education with the same vigor. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College in 1966 and proceeded to earn his M.D. Alpha Omega Alpha from Harvard Medical School in 1969. After his internship at Peter Brent Brigham Hospital and residency at Children’s Hospital Center, both in Boston, he made the decision to serve his country by joining the Pubic Health Service. As an officer in the PHS, Bruce started his career as a clinical associate in the Reproductive Research Branch at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. By 1976 he moved on to the Developmental Endocrinology Branch (DEB) of the NIH where he continued his research and patient care until his appointment as Chief of the DEB in 1988. During his tenure, Bruce developed the process chemistry to identify the presence of reproductive cancer in women which was ultimately patented in 1995. Throughout his career at the NIH, Bruce authored or co-authored over 137 publications for the medical community. Bruce retired from the PHS and left his position at the NIH in 1995, however he was far from retired. He spent the next 12 years mastering the field of asset, estate and real estate management and working with his son Brian since 2001. In a memoir of his time, post NIH, he recalled this period to be “the most challenging, risky, thrilling and remunerative period of my life.” In 2007, he retired from any operating roles but remained a trusted and valuable advisor to Brian and others up until his death. In 2008, Bruce was fortunate to find the second love of his life, Nancy Schwaderer, in Boca Raton, Florida. They shared a full and happy 14 years of family, friends, bridge, books, sports and traveling. Bruce was “Gaga” to all of Nancy’s family; daughters Abbie Raurell (Carlos) and Margaret Horty (Sean), and grandchildren Elise and Eve Raurell and Clark and Marian Horty all loved him as a grandfather. Bruce not only touched but enhanced the lives of everyone around him with his kindness, generosity and humor. He will always be loved and missed by all who knew him, and the world has lost a truly remarkable, accomplished and wonderful man. To honor Bruce’s memory, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bruce’s name to Trustbridge, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, Florida 33407 - www.trustbridge.com

Robert Thomas Sydlo - April 20, 1938 - August 18, 2022

Departed: 08/18/2022 (Boca Raton)
Obituary Preview: Robert Thomas Sydlo, known by most as Bob, predeceased by parents Mary, John  and brother Jimmy. Bob was born in Brooklyn, NY in the Spring of 1938.  He attended PS236 and Midwood High School in Mill Basin (Brooklyn); where he met his lifelong pals Harry Mullin and Bob Ernst (Ernie). In his mid teens, the family moved to New Jersey and soon after his dear sister Andrea was born. During these teen years he acquired the moniker “Brooklyn”. His fondness for going fast in cars was a source of joy for Bob, but not so for his Mom and local law enforcement!
Soon after high school he entered the Army and was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division Artillery, Headquarters Battery at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii with his brother. Bob had fond memories of his training with Army Rangers there and running the Officer’s Club.
Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned to his old neighborhood in Brooklyn and reunited with his many friends at his favorite watering hole, Crockett’s on Ralph Avenue.  In 1960 he met the love of his life, Catherine Tracy (Cathy). They wed in 1961 and moved to Bay Ridge. They would often sit in a nearby park and watch as the building of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge neared completion. Bob often shared his dreams of owning a boat. His two sons Robert and Keith were born, while he worked several jobs saving to buy a new home. He was climbing the ladder at UPS and left as one of the favorite shop stewards after being selected to become a fireman for FDNY in 1968. Bob was assigned to FDNY’s prestigious “Jolly Rogers” at Engine 255/Ladder 157 on Flatbush Avenue. In 1971, he took his family to the “woods” of Long Island, 2 minutes away from the Long Island Expressway.  Which would later be referred to as the LIE, the world’s largest parking lot! It was here, on this tucked away dead-end street, that Bob created a little oasis, that many friends and family would flock to during the sweltering days of summer! Bob loved a good competition in the backyard, whether it was horseshoes, croquet, badminton, water polo, water basketball, ping pong, or an intense game of wiffle ball!
Bob spent arduous hours gathering materials, designing, and  building their home. Utilizing the cheap labor of his boys, he taught them many skills, while instilling a strong work ethic in them! He also made good on his promise of getting a boat, actually several, which provided a bountiful source of seafaring stories and tales, which were generally outnumbered by the fish caught!  As the kids got older, he developed a fondness for golf, betting on horses, and his beloved scratch offs! Then in 1997, his son Keith purchased the home next door, and soon after the “big” house at the end. Bob enjoyed watching his grandson Danny grow up before his eyes. Bob was so proud watching him become an NYPD officer this past June.
In 2003, Cathy and Bob became “snowbirds” after purchasing their condo in Deerfield Beach, FL. Bob created many memorable moments on Dewey Street, before leaving in 2021. Bob loved his family, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sisters in law, brothers-in-law all loved and admired him. They loved his stories and especially his welcoming ways. His wishes were for all to celebrate his life by gathering wherever and whenever to offer a CHEER AND A BEER!

Sylvia Lilly - March 08, 1922 - August 13, 2022

Departed: 08/13/2022 (Boca Raton)
Obituary Preview: My Mom, Sylvia Lilly, was born and brightened this world on March 8, 1922, from Yorkshire, England.  She was the 2nd of seven siblings born to her most loving parents, Edward and Maude Spencer.  Sylvia was an exemplary student and always enjoyed much joy and laughter with her siblings as they exchanged their tall and never ending stories.
Growing up during wartime in World War II, Sylvia embraced the war effort and joined the British Army through an appointment to the elite branch of the Royal Signal Core.  Sylvia proudly rose through the ranks – wearing Her uniform proudly.
As a result of her military service, Mom would eventually meet her soulmate, her “Soldier Boy”, her Yank, Hyman Lilly. They had an incredible love story with my Dad having to chase Mom all over England to convince her to be his wife.  Ultimately Dad won Mom’s heart and hand with their glorious marriage enduring for 68 ½ wonderful years.
Ultimately, Mom and Dad moved to the United States and settled in Massachusetts.  It was there that they started their family which ultimately culminated with three (3) children - a son and two daughters, one (1) son-in-law, four (4) grandchildren and ten (10) great grandchildren.  Sylvia was an incredibly loving and devoted wife and mother. Family was always Mom’s number one priority and she treasured her family dearly.
One of Mom’s proudest moments is when she became a United States citizen joining this great country that embraced and accepted her.  As a result of her proud citizenship, Sylvia was an avid voter never missing an election and proudly wearing her “I Voted” sticker after each visit to the polls.
Eventually, Mom and Dad called Florida home.  Sylvia loved her Boca Chase community and was very active. She taught water aerobics at the community pool and started a Little Theater Club which resulted in the production of several shows for the community. Sylvia loved golf – playing into her 90s - and also enjoyed badminton, mahjong, gardening and oil/watercolor painting. She loved to shop and cook and hosted many delicious holiday dinners. Mom was an avid reader and loved to read international cookbooks and try new recipes.  Her family and friends are still asking for Mom’s brisket and kugel recipes as well as her delicious flourless chocolate cake.
Mom was also very active in many civic, social and spiritual organizations.  She proudly volunteered to serve and as a result of her dedication and capabilities, she regularly lead many of them in both Massachusetts and Florida.
During her life and marriage to Dad, antiques were Mom’s business and passion. During her antiques career, Mom would set up antiques shows from the northeast to Florida.  Her passion and expertise with antiques was unmatched and her services were sought by collectors and dealers throughout the country.  Sylvia’s passion grew from her childhood attending antiques shows and auctions looking for that special treasure.  Her excitement, enthusiasm, and magical stories she would tell about specific treasures she would find was amazing.  As an adult, I now realize the incredible lessons my Mom gave to me as a result of her knowledge and passion for antiques.
My Mom’s achievement of 100 years of age is extraordinary. Much of it attributed to her love of life, her love for her Husband of 68 ½ years, her family, her friends and her community.  My Mom is truly an Antique Extraordinaire of her own life and her family.  Mom will be dearly missed, forever treasured and never forgotten.

Obituary Preview: Thomas Michael Costello, Mike to his friends and family, was born in Los Angeles in 1932. Mike studied at Notre Dame University before being drafted into the Navy during a time of peace between the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He met the love of his life for sixty-four years on a blind date in Miami; later, Marcia would visit him in Indiana and be escorted off campus because she was indecent in Bermuda shorts.
Mike moved his family to Miami in 1962 and accepted a position teaching accounting at Miami Dade University.
