Obituary Preview: James “Jamey” J. Vermeire, 57, of Hillsdale, IL, died Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Mercy One Clinton Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. Services will be at 10:00 am Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron, IL. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Jamey was born March 31, 1967 in Rock Island, IL, to James E. and Virginia “Eileen” Vermeire. He attended Hampton and later Riverdale Schools. Jamey went to work at Tyson in Joslin, IL, in 1985 and worked in maintenance. He also had a lawn mowing /snow plowing business for several years. He married Jannette Bisanz December 1, 2001.
Jamey was a kind, loving person that would help out anyone in need. He was an amazing father and son and was determined to teach his kids to do things the right way (his way). After all, he was a perfectionist and his work was meticulous.
He was adventurous and loved driving, riding and working on cars, snowmobiles, motorcycles and anything with an engine. He built drag cars and spent many hours at the Cordova Dragway. In his younger years he was mentored by Bob Windt, in Cordova where he developed a passion for building and operating hovercraft. He also enjoyed working in his garden. Jamey is survived by his mother, Virginia “Eileen” Schipper, Fulton, IL; children, Shawn Vermeire (Melissa Olson), Donahue, IA, Amanda Vermeire, Port Byron, Jarred Vermeire, Gatesville, TX, Anna Vermeire, Rock Island; former spouse and friend, Jannette Bisanz Vermeire; brother, Jason Vermeire, Port Byron; half-sister, Susan (Keith) Rezin; grandchildren, Autumn, Annabelle and Steven Earl, Ryker and Journee Vermeire, Jentry Vermeire; nieces and nephews, Jake (Hannah) Vermeire, Jessica (Caleb) Lindsey, Nate, Tory, Alexa and Zach Rezin, Clint and Nicole Schipper, James Jamison; and good friends, Ray and Wendy Byers. Obituary Preview: Barbara "Barb" Heitzler Kyburz, 73 of Carmichael, CA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Barb found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed spending time with her cats and was a passionate lifelong gardener. Her life was dedicated to unconditional love for her son and the rest of her family.
Barbara Jane Heitzler was born, January 27, 1951 in Sterling, Illinois, the daughter of Leo and Elsie Dugosh Heitzler. She married Robert Kyburz in Bloomington, Illinois where their son Cale was born. Barb retired from the Agilent Corporation, Sacramento, CA.
Survivors include her son, Cale (Yvonne) Kyburz, Carmichael, CA, granddaughter, Aaliyah Turner, Carmichael, sisters Terri (Leon) Gibson, Port Byron, IL, Patricia (Bill) Prouty, Aiken, SC, Lisa (Carolyn Hodge) Heitzler, Orangevale, CA and a brother, Steven (Susan) Heitzler, Aiken, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents. Her large family, including many nieces and nephews, will remember her as a gentle and caring aunt who always had time for a story or a laugh.
Barb's life was a testament to her dedication—whether it was to her family, friends, her gardens, or her furry companions. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the impact she made will continue to live in the memory of those who loved her.

Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorials may be made to Fairfield United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Bob was born October 28, 1946 in Port Byron, IL, on the same property where he passed. He was the son of Leo and Rosie (Carlson) DeHamer. He attended Riverdale and United Township High Schools. Bob married Connie Ford on January 15, 1966 in East Moline, IL. He was a Melt Department and Maintenance Supervisor at John Deere Foundry in East Moline. Bob also served as the Fire Brigade Chief for the plant, retiring in 1992.
Bob was a member and Trustee of the Fairfield United Methodist Church, Port Byron, a 40 year member and past President of The Viking Club in Moline, member of the East End Club, Moline, and the Elks Lodge #2606 in Punta Gorda, FL.
He and Connie resided in Florida for 6 years and wintered there for many more. Bob had many interests, including stock car racing, hunting, playing cards and woodworking. His own challenging upbringing reinforced his love and devotion to his family. He was a family man first, coaching his daughters and son in softball, baseball and basketball during their youth. He passed down to them his leadership traits, work ethic and passion for family. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Friday, March 29th at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cordova Civic Center from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm, Saturday, March 30th with a Toast to Scott at 1:00 pm. He will be cremated, and his ashes spread at the family farm. The family asks friends and relatives to bring a favorite photo of Scott and write a memory on the back. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial fund to be established.
Scott was born February 7, 1971, in Moline, IL. He was the son of Richard Weaver and Janet Taylor. He graduated from UTHS in 1989. He married Theresa DeHamer on November 13, 1993, his Little Ceasar sweetheart in East Moline. Scott was a fifth-generation farmer on the family centennial farm in Port Byron, IL and was an operating engineer with Local 150 for 25 years.
Above all, he was a dedicated husband of 30 years, father, grandfather, uncle, and loved spending time with his family. Hobbies he loved included snowmobiling, UTV riding, camping, traveling, spending time with friends, pursuing amateur firefighting and being an enthusiast in disassembling. Karen was born on November 24, 1952 in Moline, IL, to Randel and Gertrude (Rausch) Davis. She graduated from Riverdale High School and went on to attend beauty school. After graduating, she and her sister Deborah opened and operated Mississippi Valley Haircrafters, a beauty salon in Clinton, IA. Karen also worked at Bunge in Albany and the Clinton Community School District. She married Robert William Douglas on August 19, 1989 at Trinity Methodist Church in Clinton, IA.
Karen was an excellent cook. She loved putting on parties for her friends and family, especially on Christmas Eve. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing and growing orchids. Karen deeply cared for the Garden Plain Presbyterian Church and loved her church family. In addition to her family, she cherished her cat, Edward. Barb was born June 24, 1946 in Nixa, MO, a daughter of Wilson and Goldia (Biggers) Schupbach. She moved to Port Byron, IL, as a child and graduated from Riverdale High School in 1964. She then attended and graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in teaching. Barb married Paul A. Dillin on September 12, 1970 in Princeton, IL. She worked as a teacher, primarily as a substitute for a number of school districts. She latter went to work at East Moline Metals in the Shipping Department from where she retired in 2012.
Barb was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Port Byron. She served on the Moore Memorial Library Board and was an active volunteer. She enjoyed crafting, making cards, bowling and being with her family. She loved watching the grandkids as they grew up and following their activities. She is survived by her husband, Paul Dillin, Hillsdale; children, Dale Dillin, Hillsdale, Kristin (J.D.) Snowden, Hillsdale; grandchildren, Christopher Dillin (Michelle Quilty), Daniel (Jennifer) Dillin, Autumn Dillin, Callen Snowden, Addelyn Snowden; great grandchildren, Alexi, Kaydence and Wyatt Dillin, Camryn and Levi Dillin, and Arizona Dillin; brothers, David (Lynn) Schupbach, NM, Gene (Cathy) Schupbach, WI; and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by: sons Richard Franich (Debra), Rock Springs, WY; Terry Franich, American Fork, UT; Gregory Franich (Erin), Bettendorf, IA; a daughter Karen Franich (formerly Moore and Beachler), Moline, IL; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; plus a brother Paul Taylor (Darlene) and a sister Lavon Ervin, both of OK.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; a grandson Michael Beachler, East Moline and Sherrard, IL; plus three brothers and two sisters. Jodie was a member of two Lutheran Churches in Davenport, IA. She was a founding member of the first chapter of the Assoc. of Retarded Children in Las Cruces, NM. She and her Beta Sigma Phi sorority sisters helped at Special Olympics and other charitable events for over 60 years. She was a member of Optimist Club in Bettendorf, IA. She was an avid golfer. Bob was born December 15, 1942 in Iowa City, IA, the son of Robert J. Kofron, Sr. and A. Berniece (John) Greiner. He served his country in the US Navy from 1960 to 1964. He married Debra K. Powell on May 20, 2005. Bob retired from two careers. He first worked for Oscar Mayer in Davenport and then became a Millwright for the Millwright Local 2158. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors, the Colona American Legion and the Eagles Club in Carbon Cliff.
Bob was not just a man; he was a force of nature. His infectious humor, quick wit, and mastery in the art of joke-telling brought joy and laughter to everyone. With a heart as expansive as his great size, he embraced those around him with love and warmth, often expressing it through his trademark one-armed hugs.
Bob was an avid race car driver, and his passion for the sport was a flame that ignited the hearts of his children and grandchildren. In every pursuit, he approached life and racing with unwavering effort. He leaves behind a legacy of speed, excitement, and a love for the open road. The roar of engines and the thrill of the race will forever echo in the memories of those he leaves behind.
Known far and wide as “Hemi Bob," he was a man who touched the lives of countless people. Whether on the race track or in everyday interactions, he exuded a genuine character that made him a friend to all. His nickname became synonymous with his love for powerful engines and his kind-hearted spirit.
Bob's departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will live on in the laughter shared, the stories told, and the love he showered upon his family and friends. As we mourn the loss of this remarkable man, let us also celebrate the joy he brought into our lives and carry forward the lessons of love, laughter, and passion that he so generously imparted.
May he rest in peace, surrounded by the echoes of roaring engines and the warmth of eternal love.

Private services will be held at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron, IL, followed by a military burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tampico, IL. Aside from his family, Paul’s greatest devotion was to the military. In 1956 he enlisted with the United States Naval Air Force. During Vietnam he often told stories of his support during the control of Ho Chi Min Trail. He remained active with the service and traveled the world until retirement as Master Sergeant in 1990.
After retirement from the Rock Island Arsenal, Paul devoted his time to supporting his church, the American Legion, 40&8 Club and especially the Quad City Stand Down. Stand Down gave him personal satisfaction from helping veterans with housing, clothing, hunger, and medical needs. Family and friends will remember Paul for his generosity and Irish wit. He was the great storyteller! DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY! WELL DONE! BE AT PEACE! Paul is survived by his wife Patricia; his children Tammy (Larry) Egan/O’Brien of FL, Dean (Teresa) Egan of Sterling, IL, Paula (Ken) Geiger of Port Byron, IL, Mechele Egan of Port Byron, IL; along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Delmar was born April 14, 1928 in Stockton, IA, to Herbert and Hazel (Timmsen) Hintze. He married the love of his life, Angeline (Geary) Hintze on October 11, 1952, at the Harrison Gospel Chapel, Davenport. He was employed by various plastering-drywall contractors for 43 years, retiring from Allied Construction in 1991. Del was a 75-year member of the Laborers’ International Union Local #309. He served in the Iowa National Guard in the 1950’s, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Del Inspired those who loved him through a lifetime of character, integrity, devotion to the family and strong work ethic. He loved bowling, playing cards and a good game of marbles. Becky was born on January 10, 1953 in Moline, IL to Lyall Wingert and Lois Meadows, and at the age of 3 days old, was adopted by Wayne and Ruby (Wainwright) Feaster. Becky married Larry Hayden on November 16, 1985 in Correctionville, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2022.
Becky was known to a lot of people for being very outgoing and as some would say, a pain in the ass. She was very proud of her kids and grandkids and loved them very much. She is now reunited with her husband of 37 years, and her beloved dogs she missed so much.
Becky is survived by her children Casey Hayden of Hillsdale, IL, Harley (Hannah) Hayden of Raritan, IL, and Bobby (Jo) Hayden of Rock Island, IL; a brother Paul Wingert of Nevada; grandchildren Lewis, Witten, Sierra, Jace, Scarlett, Kane, Wayne, and Callie; her best friends Bill and Cathy Hackney and their girls of LeClaire, IA; and special friends, Tom and Karen Gibson. Evelyn Jane Batey was born August 17, 1940 in Flint, MI, the daughter of Norman and Jessie (Churchill) Terpenning. She was one of nine children. She attended the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago where she met and fell in love with her husband, Collin C. Batey. They were united in marriage on July 11, 1964 in Turlock, CA and had four children together, and 59 happy years of marriage.
Evelyn was a faithful member of her church and devoted to serving the Lord. She was a long-time active member of Sycamore Baptist Church and taught at Sycamore Christian School. She was passionate about mission work and helping others. She worked with Missionary Gospel Fellowship at the Bracero migrant worker camp in California, holding Sunday school and helping the children with their English, and served on a mission trip to Haiti, where she used her skills as a seamstress to sew uniforms for school children. She also served as a jail chaplain for many years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading, especially stories of the lives of missionaries or church leaders. She loved to sing hymns and had a beautiful singing voice. She raised her four children to fear God and taught them the value of hard work, service to others and kindness. Surviving are her husband, Collin; 4 children, Lyle (Valerie) Batey, Harlingen, TX, Crystal (Shawn) VanDriessche, Port Byron, IL, Nathan Batey, Davenport, IA, Janna (Ryan) Brackey, Durant, IA; grandchildren, Josiah Batey, Leah Wells, Catherine Batey, Rafter, Hudson, and Harris VanDriessche, Connor Batey, Kelsey Bowles, Edwin and Ruby Blake, and Oliver Brackey; 4 great grandchildren; and a brother, Ken Terpenning of Michigan. She got a paper route at the age of 9 to buy her first horse Kissment. Shirley went on to become Iowa’s female bull riding state champion. Shirley was united in marriage to Roberto “Bob” Pizano in 1968.
Shirley and Bob made their home in Hampton, IL, where they raised their 4 daughters and she met her best friend Sondra. She was passionate about her animals, especially her horses. She had a kind heart and would feed anyone or anything that was hungry. Shirley loved being outdoors, cutting grass, her plants and her garden. She loved listening to her favorite song Delta Dawn and Prince. Most of all Shirley loved her family. Following her children and grandchildren’s sporting events was a high light. Missy was born May 22, 1970 in Morrison, IL, the daughter of Barbara “Eakins” Kampe. She graduated from Riverdale High School in 1988, and then went on to obtain a teaching degree from Illinois State University. Missy owned and operated her in home daycare for 25 years. She loved and treated all her daycare kids as her own.
Thirteen years ago, Missy met the love of her life, Troy Boyd. She was the happiest she’d ever been. Missy loved days on the river or in the pool with her girls, hanging out with friends, and of course Buck the Duck. She was always down for a good time and a tropical vacation. She was a great leader and would help with anything she could. Often being the head coordinator, she would get the word out there for the world to see. She was the life of the party with a smile that lit up the room.
Missy was the most selfless and caring person. Her girls were her WORLD. She was beyond proud of the women they have become. She loved seeing them so happy. You could often find Missy with a group of people she loved. Singing karaoke, playing in a pool league or just kicking back to relax in the sun. She lived life to the fullest.
